Nine Lives, One Show

Check out tightrope-braving, skateboarding felines in The Amazing Acro-Cats Featuring Tuna and the Rock Cats at Gulfport’s Catherine Hickman Theater. These fuzzy performers, including a Guinness Book of World Record-holder, entertain with music, tricks and a test of their nine lives. A portion of the proceeds benefits mobile foster and rescue efforts. Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S. 7-9 p.m.

Carving Contest Are you dying to take a whack at carving October’s favorite fruit? Head to the Gulfport Beach Bazaar for the second annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Show up ripe and early to ensure a spot in the carving line. Gulfport Beach Bazaar, 3115 Beach Blvd. S. 6-8 p.m.

Saturday, October 23

Porch Party Witches and word lovers, gather round. Gulfport’s Historic Peninsula Inn is hosting a Halloween Porch Party under the tented patio lights. Carol J. Perry, local author of “Be My Ghost” will discuss her recent Florida ghost story over wine and cocktails. A copy of the book and a drink included with the ticket. Jam Sesh’ A jazzy way to spend a Saturday: The MAR hosts its final session of jazz night with The Larry Camp Trio ft. Kenny Clarke on B-3 organ and Dave Hardman on drums. The doors open at 2:30 p.m., dancing encouraged. The MAR, 2309 Central Ave. 3 p.m.

Saturday Fresh If the classic Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market isn’t enough for you, the fourth Saturday of each month offers shopping spillage down Beach Boulevard. It’s the regular blend of local vendors and produce, just on Saturday. Beach Boulevard. 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Sweet Music The Pinellas Youth Symphony in its 64th season proudly plays its strings for a performance of the Serenade Strings Orchestra. The showcase features an evening of music under the direction of Mr. Lei Liu, Second Assistant Concertmaster of The Florida Orchestra. Stick around for two string quartets. Belle of the Ball Gecko Ball’s return after a lizard-free year – and the 20th anniversary of the event – results in an extra special night. Gecko Bandstand is the theme, and ticket holders are encouraged to go all out. There will be no appetizers this year, but it’s the same old fun in the Casino Ballroom. Scary Good Art Are you ready to jump? There’s a creepy, crawly, haunted house right in the middle of the Pinellas Arts Village. Studios at 5663 invited artists to create the most blood-curdling creations as part of an interactive art installation. This is a walk-through haunt with jump scares and alarming visuals, not for the faint of heart. Studios at 5663, 5663 Park Blvd. 7-10 p.m.

Movements, Explained! Take a closer look at the excitement of reality with “Great Explorations @ the Library: Force in Motion.” Library-visiting experts explore how objects move, from catapults to physical reactions. This is a program for kids aged 4 to 12. St. Pete Beach Public Library, 365 73rd Ave. 4-5 p.m.

Free Stretches Yoga is yoga, by chair or by mat. South Pasadena City Hall hosts two classes every Thursday morning.
