So, you have stumbled across The Gamer Guide and you are wondering, “Why do I need a guide to gaming?” Well, we will not guide you on how to game, but we will keep you informed as to what the gaming industry has to offer to get you the best gaming experience! Now, the second thing you are probably wondering is, “How did The Gamer Guide start?” Well, it can be a slightly long story. However, the shortened version is that the journey of three Twitch streamers brought them together, and with their passion for gaming, their experiences of streaming, and their love for everything within the world of entertainment… The Gamer Guide was born.
But what exactly is The Gamer Guide? The Gamer Guide is a digital magazine that focuses on everything gaming and streaming. This includes the latest/upcoming releases, reviews on gaming accessories, streaming tips, and even interviews with streamers and industry professionals from across the globe. Our readership is predominantly other gamers and streamers, just like us! We understand that the love and passion for gaming extends far beyond just playing a game, and that is what we are all about!
So, who are the people behind this magazine?
Brandon who goes by the name of Sawyer is the Co Owner & Content Director of The Gamer Guide. Predominantly Sawyer is an Xbox Gamer where he mostly plays his Xbox Series X but also has a Gaming PC, a Nintendo Switch, and even a Playstation 5, with a variety of platforms this gives Sawyer the ability to review the latest games for TGG. Sawyers main gaming love is Gears of war and RPGs because who doesn’t love an adventure or some chainsaw slaying with a cheeky blind fire or wall bounce. Due to Sawyers vast knowledge and background within the industry he came together with Emily to form The Gamer Guide.
Emily, also known as CreativeTrashGaming, came together with Sawyer to form the Gamer Guide, bringing her creative knowledge. Her favourite types of games are those with a compelling story, or those that just make her inner Fantasy Nerd go ballistic. She also likes spooky stuff, not just in the gaming realm but in general, and has a podcast with her two sisters where they discuss all things horror. Emily loves to dabble in the art world often, creating digital art pieces and learning new crafts. A graphics designer in her full time job, Emily is an integral part of the team whom designs the entire layout of our magazines from top to bottom!
Jamie joined The Gamer Guide late 2022 as the Operations Manager. Canon were kind enough to send us this camera to use for MCM London Comic Con this October, so we were able to really push this camera to it’s limits and test it in multiple environments. First of all, the camera itself is very compact and lightweight, which meant carrying it around a busy event was very easy to manage. As most photographers and videographers know, the larger cameras do start to become taxing on your wrists on long shoots, but with a camera like this, I found it very nice to use all day without the worry of fatigue.
I was also able to use this camera for a short shoot at a venue, to which I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to point and shoot without much tinkering in order to get a decent image. During the day, I opted to only use the automatic mode, which does all of the white balance, shutter speed, etc for you according to the environment you are in. It handled the lighting pretty well and had little to no issue taking a clear, crisp photo. However, later in the evening, when the lights dimmed and the show lights came on in the venue, that’s where I began to run into some issues. Sticking to automatic mode initially, I began to try and take photos, only for the camera to struggle immensely and for the shutter speed to dramatically slow, causing blurry photos. I also found that the screen began to lag significantly.
I assumed this was due to the camera attempting to handle the low-light environment and therefore slowing down the capture on the screen to do so, but for a budding photographer this could be a quite jarring thing to handle. I switched to manual mode halfway through the night and began to tinker with the ISO and such in order to assist with the shutter speed issue, to which there was some improvement, but it was clear that the camera
doesn’t handle certain lighting environments well. That being said, after some tinkering on manual mode, I managed to get some good photographs. Moving onto MCM Comic Con, I was able to use the camera in both a low-light stage setting, outside and inside the convention centre itself. Having it on automatic mode and being able to point and shoot with it was extremely convenient, and it adapted to the sun outdoors very nicely.
I was also able to test the filming capabilities on the camera, which does 4K quality footage. For someone who would be new to using cameras, it is extremely easy to just turn the filming mode on and get started. The camera certainly handles lowlight environments much better in the film mode, and I found that the clips I was getting of the various stages at the comic con were very good quality. Considering the stages were mostly completely dark except for harsh spotlights, I found that the lense the camera comes with along with the camera itself handled the lighting changes very well in film mode. The camera also provides options when switching to each mode, asking whether or not the user would like the camera to choose the whitebalance for them or whether you would like to control it yourself, as one example of the many options given on certain modes. The camera also contains in-built filter options, allowing the user to do more creative photographs with black and white mode etc.
Over the course of the three days, I became more and more comfortable with the camera, utilising
it’s filter options and other settings. The camera is also compatible with an app that allows you to access your photos in real time, and even edit them on a basic level. However, I found this app was a paid for program so I was unable to fully test it. I do think that it is an incredible tool to have though, especially if someone was using the camera for content creation and wanted to post content on the same day instead of waiting to upload all of the images later on.
I would rate this camera as a solid 7/10. It has value in its simplicity, and is a great camera for those just starting out in photography or videographer. It has many amazing features whilst not being too complicated or overwhelming for a new user. That being said, as mentioned previously, the camera did run into one or two issues when it came to dealing with low-light environments, though the likelihood of a budding photographer using the camera in such an environment is quite slim!
It’s a great piece of kit; small, compact, and lightweight. I would definitely recommend this camera to someone who needs a simple pointand-shoot piece of equipment.
Thank you so much to Canon for allowing us to review this camera. If you want anymore information about the camera, check out the link below, and follow Canon on their socials!

Our Wonderful friends over at Samsung have once again hooked us up with one of their latest SSDs and that is the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD which is a stellar choice for those seeking top-tier performance and reliability. Samsung has a well-deserved reputation for producing some of the best solid-state drives on the market, and the 990 EVO Plus continues this legacy. Let’s dive into the detailed review.
The performance of the 990 EVO Plus is truly impressive, with sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and write speeds of 6,300 MB/s. These speeds make it one of the fastest PCIe Gen4 SSDs available, ideal for intensive tasks such as gaming, video editing, and large data transfers. The drive also excels in random read/write speeds, boasting 1,050K/1,400K IOPS. This ensures quick data access and smooth performance, even with demanding applications. During real-world usage, the 990 EVO Plus demonstrates its capability to handle heavy workloads with ease. Whether you’re booting up your system, loading games, or transferring large files, the drive’s responsiveness is impeccable. For gamers, this means shorter load times and a more seamless gaming experience. For professionals, it translates to faster project renderings and improved efficiency.
Despite its high performance, the 990 EVO Plus is designed to be energy-efficient. This is particularly beneficial for laptop users, as it helps extend battery life. The SSD uses a DRAM-less configuration, which contributes to lower power consumption without compromising performance. However, when compared to other SSDs in its class, some reviews have noted that the power efficiency could be better. This is a minor drawback, especially for users who prioritise battery longevity over raw speed.
The design of the 990 EVO Plus is sleek and
modern, featuring a single-sided M.2 2280 form factor. This design ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices, including ultra-thin laptops and compact desktops. The drive is built using Samsung’s 8th Generation V-NAND and a 5nmclass controller, which guarantees reliability and durability. The absence of a built-in heatsink helps keep the drive cool during operation, though users may want to consider adding an aftermarket heatsink for optimal performance under sustained heavy loads. The drive’s build quality is robust, reflecting Samsung’s commitment to producing high-quality, durable products.
One of the standout features of the 990 EVO Plus is the included Samsung Magician software. This suite of optimization tools provides users with easy access to firmware updates, performance monitoring, and maintenance features. The software’s user-friendly interface makes it simple to tweak settings and ensure the drive is running at its best. Samsung’s customer support is also commendable. The company offers a comprehensive warranty and has a reputation for responsive and helpful service. This level of support provides peace of mind, knowing that any potential issues will be addressed promptly.
Value
Priced at approximately £160 for the 2TB
model, the 990 EVO Plus offers excellent value for its performance. While it may not reach the speeds of the flagship 990 Pro, it provides a cost-effective solution for users needing highcapacity storage without breaking the bank. The drive’s balance of price and performance makes it accessible to a wide range of users, from gamers to professionals.
In everyday use, the 990 EVO Plus shines. For gaming, the quick load times and fast data access significantly enhance the experience. In professional settings, tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, and large file transfers are completed more efficiently. The drive’s performance remains consistent even under heavy workloads, proving its reliability and robustness.
Overall, the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD is a top-tier performer that delivers on multiple fronts. Its impressive read/write speeds, energy
efficiency, and robust build quality make it a standout choice in the SSD market. While there is room for improvement in power efficiency and the addition of a built-in heatsink, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise excellent product.
For users looking for a high-performing, reliable SSD, the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB is an outstanding option. Its balance of performance, price, and features earn it a well-deserved 8.5/10. The Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD scores 8.5/10 primarily due to a few minor drawbacks: while it offers exceptional read/write speeds and solid reliability, it doesn’t match the power efficiency of some competitors and lacks a builtin heatsink for optimal thermal management under heavy workloads. Additionally, occasional technical issues and a slightly higher price point compared to budget alternatives prevent it from reaching a perfect score. Despite these, it remains a top-tier choice with impressive performance and value.

Our wonderful friends over at Elgato hooked us up with some of their wonderful products in the XLR range, that being their Elgato Wave DX, Wave XLR and their Wave Pro Mic Arm.
XLR stands for “External Line Return”. It is a type of connector commonly used in professional audio and video electronics like microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and mixers. XLR connectors usually have three pins and are designed to carry balanced signals, reducing noise. The term “XLR” may have originated from “crossover” or “locking”.
As Elgato is a new feature for us we must first delve into who they are and if you are a creator, you will probably know just who these are. Elgato is a brand of consumer technology products designed for content creators. They specialise in audiovisual technology, including webcams, microphones, capture cards, and stream deck controllers. Elgato was founded in 2010 by Markus Fest and Stuart Smith, and it was headquartered in Munich, Germany. In 2018, the brand was acquired by Corsair Gaming, Inc.
Now Elgato sent over three of their wonderful products and of course an XLR cable which is very much so required so please take that into consideration. First up let’s dive into the actual Microphone which is the Wave DX.
The Elgato Wave DX is a dynamic XLR microphone specifically crafted for streamers, podcasters, and YouTubers. Priced at approximately £99, it offers a budget-friendly option for those aiming to upgrade from USB microphones. The Wave DX
is celebrated for its rich, full-bodied sound and effective noise rejection capabilities.
The Wave DX boasts a sleek, minimalist design with a matte black finish. It’s an end-address microphone, meaning it points directly at your mouth. The mic is constructed with hardened steel, ensuring durability and a solid feel. Additionally, it features a removable Elgato logo that can be swapped between sides, allowing for some customization.
A key feature of the Wave DX is its excellent sound quality. It delivers a rich, full-bodied sound with superior noise rejection capabilities. The microphone employs a cardioid polar pattern, which focuses on capturing sound from the front while rejecting noise from the sides and rear. This makes it ideal for recording in environments that are less than acoustically perfect.
The Wave DX includes an effective built-in pop filter that reduces plosive sounds, resulting in clearer and more professional audio. Its noise rejection capability is particularly commendable, making it suitable for streaming and podcasting, where background noise can be an issue.
The Wave DX is compatible with any XLR interface, though it performs best with Elgato’s Wave XLR interface. The Wave XLR provides additional
features such as low-cut filters and a clip limiter, which further enhance audio quality. However, note that you’ll need to purchase an XLR cable and potentially other accessories to maximise the microphone’s capabilities.
We must praise the Wave DX for its outstanding sound quality and ease of use. This is of course a significant upgrade from USB microphones, and we can appreciate the flexibility of using it with various audio interfaces.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
• Rich, Full-Bodied Sound: The microphone provides high-quality sound with excellent depth and clarity.
• Effective Pop Filter: Built-in pop filter significantly reduces plosive sounds.
• Good Noise Rejection: The cardioid polar pattern ensures minimal background noise capture.
• Affordable: At around $99, it’s a budgetfriendly upgrade from USB microphones.

• Requires Software: To unlock its full potential, Elgato’s Wave Link software and additional VST plugins are necessary.
• Additional Costs: Purchasing the necessary accessories (like the XLR cable and audio interface) can quickly add up.
Overall, the Elgato Wave DX is a fantastic choice for streamers and podcasters looking to enhance their audio quality without a hefty price tag. Its rich sound, effective pop filter, and noise rejection make it a solid investment for serious content creators. However, be prepared for some additional costs if you plan to fully utilise its capabilities with the necessary accessories and software.
The Elgato Wave XLR is an audio interface designed for streamers, podcasters, and content creators who use XLR microphones. It’s priced at around £159.99 and offers a range of features that enhance audio quality and provide greater control over your sound setup.
The Wave XLR features a sleek, compact design with a matte black finish. It’s built with high-quality materials, ensuring durability and a solid feel. The interface includes a single knob for adjusting mic gain and headphone volume, along with LED indicators to show the current settings and phantom power status.
Clip Guard: The Wave XLR includes Elgato’s proprietary Clip Guard technology, which helps prevent audio clipping and distortion.
Low-Cut Filter: This feature allows you to reduce unwanted low-frequency noise, resulting in cleaner audio.
Mute Button: A capacitive mute button makes it easy to mute your microphone with a simple touch.
Phantom Power: The interface provides 48V phantom power for condenser microphones, although it should be turned off when using dynamic microphones to avoid damage.
Wave Link Software: The Wave XLR works seamlessly with Elgato’s Wave Link software, which provides virtual audio routing and allows for mixing multiple digital sound sources.
The Wave XLR delivers high-quality audio with low preamp noise and minimal latency. It’s designed to work well with a variety of XLR microphones, providing clear and accurate sound reproduction. The interface’s converters ensure that your audio remains pristine, whether you’re streaming or recording.
We must praise the Wave XLR for its ease of use and powerful features. The interface is straightforward to set up and use, even for beginners. The Wave Link software is particularly appreciated for its flexibility and ability to mix multiple audio sources. However, the initial setup
can be a bit complex, and additional VSTs and EQ tweaks may be needed to achieve the best sound quality.

• High-Quality Construction: Built with durable materials and thoughtful design.
• Clip Guard Technology: Prevents audio clipping and distortion.
• Low-Cut Filter: Reduces unwanted lowfrequency noise.
• Mute Button: Easy to mute the microphone with a touch.

Conclusion
The Elgato Wave XLR is a versatile and powerful audio interface that enhances the audio quality of XLR microphones.
Its robust build, advanced features, and compatibility with Wave Link software make it a valuable tool for streamers and content creators. While the initial setup may be complex, the benefits of improved audio quality and greater control over your sound setup make it a worthwhile investment.
The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro is a low-profile microphone arm designed for streamers, podcasters, and content creators who need a sleek and adjustable solution for their microphone setup and is priced at around £179.99. It features a hydraulic hinge for smooth adjustments and is compatible with various thread mounts, making it versatile for different microphones.
The Wave Mic Arm Pro boasts a sleek, minimalist design with a matte black finish. It’s built with high-quality materials, ensuring durability and stability. The arm is sturdy and provides a secure mount for your microphone, which is essential for maintaining consistent audio quality during recordings and streams.
Hydraulic Hinge: The hydraulic hinge allows for smooth and easy adjustments without the need for knobs or screws. This makes it easy to position your microphone precisely where you need it.
Low Profile Design: The low-profile design is ideal for setups with limited space, keeping your microphone out of the way while still being easily accessible.
Adjustable: The arm is compatible with various thread mounts, making it versatile for different microphones and stands.
Sturdy Construction: The Wave Mic Arm Pro is built to last, providing a secure and stable mount for your microphone.
We can appreciate the Wave Mic Arm Pro for its ease of use and flexibility. The hydraulic hinge is particularly praised for its smooth adjustments, making it easy to find the perfect position for your microphone.
The low-profile design is also a hit for users who need to keep their setup tidy and unobtrusive. However, the mounting arm can be hard to tighten, and it may not fit all mic stands perfectly without additional adapters.
Pros
Pros:
• Smooth Adjustability: The hydraulic hinge allows for easy and precise adjustments.
• Low Profile Design: Ideal for setups with limited space.
• Sturdy Construction: Provides a secure and stable mount for your microphone.
• Versatile Compatibility: Works with various thread mounts and microphones.
Cons:
• Mounting Arm Tightening: Some users may find the mounting arm hard to tighten.
• Limited Compatibility: May not fit all mic stands perfectly without additional adapters.
The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro is a solid choice for streamers and content creators who need a sleek and adjustable microphone arm. Its smooth adjustability, low-profile design, and sturdy construction make it a valuable addition to any audio setup. While there are some minor issues with mounting arm tightening and compatibility, the overall performance and flexibility of the Wave Mic Arm Pro make it a worthwhile investment.

The company’s attention to detail and commitment to quality make their cushions a great choice for upgrading your headset.
RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion
Now let’s dive into what we think of the RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion limited edition headset.
The RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion edition is a visual standout. Its unique camo pattern combined with Wicked Cushions’ signature material reminiscent of leather car seats gives it a fresh and distinctive look. It’s a
great conversation starter and adds a splash of personality to your gaming setup.
The new cushions provide improved padding and a snug fit, enhancing passive noise cancellation. However, the headband feels heavier compared to the original model, which might lead to some discomfort during extended gaming sessions. The adjustable sizing helps accommodate different head sizes, adding to its overall comfort.
While the RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion offers decent audio quality, it doesn’t quite hit the same highs as the original model. The sound is quieter, which might not be ideal for gamers who prioritise audio fidelity during intense gaming sessions. However, the passive noise cancellation helps create an immersive gaming experience.
The headset is lightweight yet sturdy, designed to withstand regular use. The plastic build might not feel as premium as some higherend headsets, but it offers good durability. The camo pattern also helps camouflage any wear and tear on the cushions, maintaining its look over time.
At $89.99, the RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo
Wicked Cushion is a bit cheaper than the original model, making it a good value for money. The unique design and improved comfort make it a worthwhile investment for gamers looking for a stylish and comfortable headset.
While not the most portable, the headset’s lightweight design makes it easier to carry around compared to bulkier models. It doesn’t fold, which might be a downside for some, but its durability compensates for this.
Setting up and using the RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion is straightforward. The controls are intuitive, and the overall user experience is smooth. The improved passive noise cancellation and comfort make it enjoyable for long gaming sessions.
Built to withstand regular use, the RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion proves to be quite durable. The plastic construction, while not premium, is robust enough to endure everyday wear and tear. The camo pattern also adds to its resilience by helping to mask any signs of use.
The headset offers reliable connectivity options,
making it easy to pair with various gaming consoles and devices. The wired connection ensures minimal latency, which is crucial for competitive gaming, while the wireless options offer flexibility for casual use.
The RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion is a solid choice for gamers who value unique design and comfort. While it may not match the audio performance of the original model, its distinctive aesthetics and improved comfort make it a good option for casual gaming and everyday use. Overall rating this an 8/10.
an 8/10 and not a 10/10?
The RIG 600 Pro HS Acid Camo Wicked Cushion falls short of a perfect score due to a few minor drawbacks. The heavier headband might cause discomfort during extended use, and the audio quality doesn’t quite match that of the original model in terms of loudness and sensitivity. Additionally, while the design is stylish, some users might prefer a more understated look. These factors prevent it from achieving a perfect score.

Our wonderful friends over at piXL technologies and target components have once again sent over one of their monitors and this time it’s the piXL CM32GF5 32-inch curved gaming monitor which is an attractive option for gamers looking for an immersive, high-refresh-rate display without breaking the bank. This review will cover various aspects of the monitor, including performance, design, build quality, features, and overall value.
The piXL CM32GF5 shines in performance, thanks to its impressive 165Hz refresh rate. This high refresh rate ensures smooth and fluid gameplay, reducing motion blur and giving gamers a competitive edge in fast-paced titles. Whether you’re playing first-person shooters, racing games, or other action-packed genres, the monitor’s ability to deliver crisp and clear motion is a significant advantage.
The monitor features a Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, which is standard for gaming monitors in this price range. While it may not offer the same level of detail as a 4K display, the resolution is adequate for most gaming setups, particularly at the 32-inch size. The pixel density is reasonable, ensuring sharp visuals without noticeable pixelation.
Another standout feature is the inclusion of FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility. These technologies help eliminate screen tearing and stuttering by synchronising the monitor’s refresh rate with the frame rate of your graphics card. This results in a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience, particularly in graphically demanding games.
The piXL CM32GF5 boasts a sleek and modern design that will complement any gaming setup. The curved screen enhances immersion by wrapping around your field of view, making you feel more connected to the game. The curvature is subtle but effective, providing a more engaging experience without causing discomfort during extended gaming sessions. The monitor’s frameless design adds to its aesthetic appeal, giving it a clean and contemporary look. The thin bezels make it an excellent choice for multi-monitor setups, as they minimise the gap between screens and create a more seamless viewing experience. In terms of build quality, the piXL CM32GF5 is solid and well-constructed. The materials used feel durable, and the overall design is robust enough to withstand regular use. The stand is sturdy and offers height and tilt adjustments, allowing users to find the most comfortable viewing angle. However, it lacks swivel and pivot adjustments, which could be a drawback for some users who require more flexibility.
The piXL CM32GF5 is packed with features that
enhance its usability and overall value. One of the most notable features is the 5ms response time, which is decent for a gaming monitor in this price range. While there are faster options available, the 5ms response time is sufficient for most gaming scenarios, ensuring minimal input lag and responsive gameplay.
The monitor also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), which enhances colour and contrast to provide a more vivid and lifelike image. While the HDR performance is not as impressive as some higher-end models, it still adds value to the overall viewing experience. Colours appear more vibrant, and the increased contrast helps bring out details in both bright and dark scenes. In terms of connectivity, the piXL CM32GF5 offers a good selection of ports, including HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. This makes it compatible with a wide range of devices, from gaming consoles to PCs. The inclusion of multiple input options allows users to easily switch between different sources without the need for additional adapters or cables.
The visual performance of the piXL CM32GF5 is commendable. The monitor’s colour accuracy and contrast are solid, providing a pleasing visual experience for both gaming and everyday use. After calibration, colours appear more accurate and consistent, making the monitor suitable for content creation tasks as well. The monitor’s viewing angles are decent, with minimal colour shifting when viewed from extreme angles. This ensures that the image quality remains consistent, even when viewed from different positions. The curved screen also helps maintain a more uniform picture quality across the entire display.
While the monitor’s HDR performance adds value, it’s important to note that it may not match the capabilities of more expensive models. The HDR effect is noticeable but not as pronounced as on higher-end displays. However, for its price range, the inclusion of HDR is a welcome feature that enhances the overall viewing experience.
User experience is a crucial aspect of any
gaming monitor, and the piXL CM32GF5 does a good job of catering to gamers’ needs. The high refresh rate and low response time ensure that gameplay feels smooth and responsive, enhancing the overall enjoyment of fast-paced games. The monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) is user-friendly and easy to navigate, allowing users to adjust settings quickly and efficiently. The OSD offers a range of options, including colour calibration, input selection, and gamingspecific settings such as crosshair overlays and FPS counters.
The ergonomic design of the stand, with its height and tilt adjustments, ensures that users can find a comfortable viewing position. However, the lack of swivel and pivot adjustments may be a limitation for those who require more flexibility in positioning their monitor.
One of the piXL CM32GF5’s strongest selling points is its value for money. Priced competitively between £180 - £210 depending on retailer, it offers features and performance that are typically found in more expensive models. The combination of a large, curved screen, high refresh rate, and FreeSync/G-Sync compatibility makes it a compelling option for gamers on a budget. While it does have some minor drawbacks, such as the lack of swivel/pivot adjustments and average HDR performance, these are outweighed by the monitor’s strengths. For gamers looking for an immersive and smooth gaming experience without spending a fortune, the piXL CM32GF5 is an excellent choice.
Overall, the piXL CM32GF5 32-inch curved gaming monitor delivers a solid performance with its high refresh rate, immersive curved design, and robust build quality. The inclusion of FreeSync and G-Sync support further enhances the gaming experience by eliminating screen tearing and stuttering. Although it has some areas for improvement, such as the lack of swivel/pivot adjustments and average HDR performance, it remains a highly attractive option for gamers seeking value and performance. For its impressive performance, features, and
competitive pricing, the piXL CM32GF5 earns a well-deserved score of 8/10. If you’re in the market for a large, curved gaming monitor that offers a great balance of features and affordability, this monitor is definitely worth considering.
Why an 8/10 and not a 10/10?
The piXL CM32GF5 32-inch curved gaming monitor scores an 8/10 instead of a perfect score primarily due to a few minor drawbacks. While it offers impressive performance with its 165Hz refresh rate, FreeSync/G-Sync support, and solid build quality, it falls short in areas like HDR performance, which is average
compared to higher-end models, and the lack of swivel and pivot adjustments for the stand. Additionally, the Full HD resolution at 32 inches results in a lower pixel density, which may not satisfy users seeking the sharpest visuals. Despite these minor shortcomings, it remains a strong contender for gamers seeking value and performance.
For the value this is for sure a must have and friendly to anyone on a budget or even a child who wants to delve into the gaming monitor range, we do recommend this which you can see more about piXL below.

Our wonderful friends Nerdytec who we met at Gamescom sent over something pretty cool and unique and that is their all new coming soon Couchmaster CYCON 3, however let us first tell you a little bit about Nerdytec before we delve into our product review.
The company Nerdytec was founded in 2011 by the two guys Roman Jean Charles Jakob and Chris Mut. Both are passionate gamers and at some point they got sick and tired of always being able to play computers at an uncomfortable desk. So they developed and worked on an idea to conquer the territory of the console players: the sofa. The first versions of the legendary Couchmaster were created. At that time still made of wood, they developed further to the patented, current Couchmaster CYCON 2, the highlight of Nerdytec. Also very popular were the Lapboard and the Couchmaster CYWORX, which was developed especially for laptops. Roman and Chris have made it their mission to revolutionise PC and console gaming and will continue to develop exciting versions with more and more interesting innovations for all gamers, no matter if you are a lover of racing games or shooters.
The Couchmaster CYCON 3 by Nerdytec is a versatile lapboard designed for gamers who prefer a comfortable setup while playing on a couch or bed. Featuring a sturdy, easy-to-clean hard plastic finish, it includes adjustable memory foam cushions for ultimate comfort, multiple USB ports for peripheral connections, and an integrated cable management system to keep your setup tidy. Compatible with PCs, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, it offers a sleek and practical solution for extended gaming sessions, combining both functionality and comfort.
The Couchmaster CYCON 3 excels in comfort.
The adjustable memory foam cushions adapt to your body, reducing strain and providing solid support. Whether you’re gaming or working, these cushions make extended sessions far more enjoyable.
The lapboard’s hard plastic finish is sturdy and easy to clean, but some users might prefer a more premium material. Its sleek, modern design integrates well with most living room setups, but it lacks the luxurious touch some gamers might seek. The durability is a definite plus, as it can handle daily wear and tear with ease.
A standout feature, the Couchmaster CYCON 3 offers multiple USB ports for all your peripheral needs. The integrated cable management system is a dream, keeping your setup neat and organised. Its compatibility with PCs, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 makes it versatile and user-friendly. The design minimises clutter, making your gaming area look and feel more professional.
While not overly heavy, moving the Couchmaster CYCON 3 around can be a bit cumbersome due to its size. It’s not designed for constant relocation, so if you plan to move it frequently, you might find it a bit of a hassle. However, its robust build ensures that it withstands frequent use and transportation without damage.
The Couchmaster CYCON 3 is reasonably priced for the features and comfort it offers. It’s an
investment, especially for serious gamers who prioritise comfort and a tidy setup. The durability and multifunctionality ensure you get your money’s worth.
The design is modern and sleek, fitting well into various interior styles. However, the plastic finish might not appeal to everyone. A slight tweak in materials could elevate its overall aesthetic appeal.
Setting up the Couchmaster CYCON 3 is straightforward, and the included instructions are clear. The ergonomic design and thoughtful features significantly enhance the user experience, making it a joy to use for both gaming and productivity.
The Couchmaster CYCON 3 is currently available for pre-order and is expected to ship soon here in the UK, however it has already soft launched in the US and central Europe. It’s available in black with a suede-like microfiber texture, and more colours
are anticipated to be released in the near future. While it’s not immediately in stock, the pre-order option ensures you can secure one as soon as it’s available.
The Couchmaster CYCON 3 by Nerdytec is an excellent choice for those seeking comfort, functionality, and a clean gaming setup. Its few minor drawbacks are overshadowed by its many strengths, making it a valuable addition to any gamer’s arsenal. The Couchmaster CYCON 3 scores an 8/10 largely due to its few but notable drawbacks. While its comfort, functionality, and design are top-notch, the use of hard plastic might not appeal to everyone looking for a more premium feel. Additionally, the lack of portability could be inconvenient for those who need to move it frequently. Lastly, the availability is currently limited to pre-orders, which could be a downside for those wanting immediate access. These factors, while not deal-breakers, prevent it from achieving a perfect score.
If you too would like one of these then head over to Nerdytec and their website below to keep up to date and even check out their previous models too.
This year’s October MCM Comic Con London saw a big change. The acquisition of EGX by ReedPop saw the two events amalgamate into one giant weekend of pop and gaming culture. With the end of events like ‘Insomnia - The Gaming Festival’ and ‘WASD’, the hopes of the UK gaming event scene laid upon the shoulders of EGX - the question is, did the event deliver?
People were skeptical when the news broke about MCM Comic Con London and EGX being combined into one event. I myself was worried that it would be a standard MCM Comic Con event with a sprinkle of EGX shoved into a corner of the ExCeL venue. Much to my relief, this was not the case. There was in fact a clear divide to each event, with one side of their venue space dedicated solely to EGX and the opposite side to MCM Comic Con.
Despite combining the two events the foot traffic didn’t feel that dissimilar to what one would come to expect from a standard MCM Comic Con event. Yes it was busy, very busy in fact, but we weren’t walking around like sardines in a tin. The vendors and brands we spoke to were actually surprised by how consistently busy it was throughout all three days. The walkways between vendors in the halls were pretty decent compared to past events, and the EGX side at times actually felt spacious. There was a big space dedicated to food trucks and canteen-style seating on the EGX side of the venue which was a welcome sight.
Getting into the event however had it’s share of issues, especially if you drove to the event. The road leading to the ExCeL centre was
backed up with traffic due to a bottleneck created by a parking issue. There may have been some communication issues between ExCeL, ReedPop, and the rest of us as throughout the weekend the ExCeL centre parking was apparently “Pre-book Only”, leading to a lot of cars queuing to the front only to be redirected to parking elsewhere, in some instances a 15 minute walk away. The problems did not stop there. Even with a pre-book only system, we were informed that the car park was full and was directed to a make-shift overflow car park outside of the ExCeL centre, so unfortunately despite paying for pre-book parking it seems you weren’t guanranteed a spot. At £25.00 per day for parking there were, understandably, more than a few disgruntled attendees.
So what was there to do at MCM Comic Con? Merch, a lot of merch. If you’ve been before then there is honestly nothing new to shout about. The Artist Alley and Writer’s Blockthis area was much improved on. They both had their own dedicated area and it wasn’t cramped or difficult to navigate. There was even a dedicated Artist Alley stage for those interested in panels focused on all things art. What really impressed me was the MCM Comic Con phone app, especially using it for the Artist Alley and Writer’s Block.
Attendees using the app could see the names of each artist and writer, and their exact booth location, so looking for a specific artist has been made so much easier; a brilliant quality of life addition.
One aspect that MCM Comic Con London shines in is the caliber of celebrity guests appearing on panels at the event, this year was no exception. For example, we were treated to a panel with Ella Purnell, most recently known as Lucy in the Fallout TV series, as well as the voice of Jinx in Arcane. The cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 were also in attendance on multiple days, namely Neil Newbon, Jennifer English, Devora Wilde, Theo Solomon, Samantha Béart, and performance director Aliona Baranova. The cast featured on a panel “D&D Live: What We Do in the Shadow-Cursed Lands” where they played live on stage using the new 2024 D&D rules. There were many other amazing celebrities and personalities on show, and to mention them all would take up the rest of this article!
Just like previous MCM Comic Con London events, they hosted the WCS UK Qualifers, which had some gorgeous and impressively crafted cosplays. The Cosplay Masquerades also had an impressive showing of talent and number of participants - the Saturday masquerades had 50 cosplayers taking to the stage! MCM is definitely a place where cosplayers gather and it seems like the event organisers are putting in more effort to accomodate this.
So how was the EGX side of the event? It was definitely smaller compared to last year. Despite having one side dedicated to it, there was a big area that was just food stalls and canteen-style seating - great for the whole MCM x EGX event, bad for EGX specifically. Gamers had the opportunity to get handson experience with the brand new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, released on the Friday of the event (25/10/24). A big unreleased title gamers could try out was Little Nightmares 3 by Supermassive Games. Con-goers had the chance to test out the demo at the Bandai Namco booth; unfortunately it was a solo playthrough with the in-game AI controlling the character the player doesn’t choose as
oppose to a co-op experience for 2 players. The Bandai Namco booth also had the new Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero as well as Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash. The Bandai Namco booth was definitely the most visually impressive gaming booth at the event, with a gigantic Little Nightmares 3 monster baby and a huge Shenron from Dragon Ball floating in the air. Although strangely the Bandai Namco booth was actually on the MCM side of the event, not the EGX side. There was a noticeable lack of big titles on the EGX side of the event. In fact there was a noticeable lack of studios and/or publishers at the event. There were Tranzfuser and The Leftfield Collection, consistent exhibitors in the gaming event scene. Tranzfuser is the annual graduate development competition run by the team behind the UK Games Fund. They support UK graduates to help them build successful studios, giving them the freedom and space to develop video game IP they want to make and see others play. The Leftfield Collection is a showcase of weird, wonderful, and creative games and games-like projects, including those in early stages of development. Tranzfuser and The Leftfield Collection had a range of fun and interesting games and projects for con-goers to try out. There were also some absolute indie gems in the mix. Here are a few we think people should check out:
Cattle Country - A wholesome cosy farming sim with a cowboy twist. Imagine combining Red Dead Redemption and Stardew Valley.
Polterguys - A 8 player party game where your goal is to be the last one standing by sabotaging your opponents so they get eaten by the monster in pursuit. Imagine a brawlfest Mario Kart.
No Stone Unturned - This was my personal favourite. A murder mystery detective game with nostalgic arcade-style mini-games. A hilarious narrative game with Fantastic Mr. Fox/Hot Fuzz-esque comedy. This was my personal favourite.
There was also an arcade section with a range of classic games, including a DDR machine, and a LAN area with a selection of popular games to play (like Fortnite, Valorant etc.).
The EGX Arena stage played host to a Tekken 8 tournament, which was also streamed online, as well as a Beyblade tournament hosted by content creator ChocolateKieran. The Fringe Stage had a variety of fun and interactive performances - most notable in terms of gaming was the Just Dance panel, hosted by content creator Emzy Leigh. Anyone from the crowd could volunteer to dance on stage as well as on the dance floor in front of the stage. It was a great atmosphere, bundles of fun, and lots of people got involved!
As a whole the EGX experience was ok, but a little disappointing as a gaming event. There
was a severe lack of new or upcoming games for gamers to try; Assassin’s Creed: Shadows pulling out from the event certainly didn’t help. The absence of games at the event was not just limited to AAA titles. As a whole there were not many independent studios showcasing their games.
The MCM Comic Con side of the event was what you would come to expect from this event: lots of amazing cosplays, some big celebrity panels, and a sea of vendors. I would love to see more variation with the type of vendors as a lot of them do just sell the same merchandise.
The Gamer Guide was invited to the launch event for the new Intel Core Ultra desktop processors to learn about what Intel’s new processor family is capable of. The event, which was held at Pixel Bar in Manchester, played host to a variety of gaming and tech content creators, as well as Intel’s partners, such as CyberPower, SCAN Computers and OverClockers, who had built PCs with the new processors for invited guests to test out. Notably OverClockers showed off their new PC case brand HAVN at the event - definitely one to check out if you are considering a new case! Intel also partnered with CyberPower to provide a fleet of high-end PCs featuring the new Core Ultra processors for guests to test their gaming skills on.
After a brief period of mingling, we were all gathered for the Intel Core Ultra presentation where we were shown the new specifications, gaming benchmarks and comparisions against competitors. The key takeway was the new Intel Core Ultra processors would be more power efficient while being able to deliver the same high-end performance.
After the presentation we were treated to a nice spread of food and had the opportunity to win a variety of prizes depending on where you hit on a dart board, including a brand new Intel Core Ultra 7 processor if you land on the bullseye! Unfortunately we lacked the dart skills to win a processor, but we were fortunate enough to collaborate with Intel directly and was gifted a Intel Core Ultra 7 processor for our PC builds (you can check
out these builds on our socials!).
The Intel Core Ultra series provides the same high-end performance at half the power of Raptor Lake-R. For example, comparing against the 14900k, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K can achieve the same frame rate with up to 165W lower system power for Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2. The Intel Core Ultra processor provides the higest multithread performance with up to 24 cores for industry-leading compute throughput on desktop PCs, and a feature-ruch enthusiasts experience with Xe-LPG for new codecs, up to 36 platform TOPS for dekstop AI PC, and integrated Thunderbolt 4.
Microsoft broadcasted its Xbox Partner Preview on Thursday 17th October 2024, featuring updates from Remedy Entertainment, Sega, and many more. Players got an in-depth look into “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii,” the upcoming Alan Wake II expansion, and “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.” The event kicked off at 1 p.m. EDT on Thursday and was streamed on YouTube, Twitch, and LinkedIn.
The showcase, lasting around 25 minutes, featured over a dozen trailers exclusively from Microsoft’s external partners, with no content from Xbox’s internal studios. The stream leaned heavily on horror titles, including “Phasmophobia” and “Alan Wake II: The Lake House.” However, the most buzzworthy announcement was saved for last—a co-op shooter set in the Control universe, named “FBC: Firebreak.” If you missed the event, which Xbox described as “no-fluff, all-games,” here’s a rundown of what you can expect from Microsoft’s third-party partners in the future:
Microsoft opened the Xbox Partner Preview with a trailer for the upcoming Alan Wake II DLC, “The Lake House,” set for release on October 22nd. This expansion dives into darker, more horror-centric themes, making it a perfect Halloween treat.
Following more horror, Bloober Team’s “Chronos: The New Dawn” showcased a chilling trailer featuring a granny playing chess with a bloodied, sci-fi-inspired monster hunter. This title, expected next year, promises plenty of creepy-crawly monsters.
“Blindfire,” a shooter that “removes light” and focuses on heart-racing gameplay rather than gore, is currently in early access.
The Yakuza franchise takes a seafaring turn in “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii,” blending the series’ magical realism with pirate adventures. Set for release on February 28th, 2025.
Inspired by classic Disney animations, “Mouse:
P.I. for Hire” is a noir mystery shooter slated for release in 2025.
The trailer for “Subnautica 2” revealed a terrifying, co-op survival experience set in an alien ocean, set to enter early access in 2025. Microsoft also confirmed it will be available on Game Pass.
A surprise announcement revealed that “Animal Well,” a neon platformer and one of the year’s best indie games, would be released on Xbox Series X that very day.
Based on Hiro Mashima’s manga, “Edens Zero” is set for a 2025 release.
This game, where players can burn, freeze, or throw everything in their path, is also slated for 2025. Microsoft confirmed it will be on Game Pass.
“Described as a mix between extraction games and Souls-likes,” “Mistfall Hunter” is set to debut in 2025.
Previously known as “Ghost Bike,” “Wheel World” from Annapurna Interactive is a bikebased adventure game that combines the joy of cycling with a dash of mystery. It will be available on Game Pass.
The hit horror ghost-hunting game “Phasmophobia” is set to spook Xbox Series X players starting October 29th, making it an ideal pick for Halloween night.
This title, arriving in 2025, lets players embark on adventures as Baboo, a dog, and its human companion Sepehr, coming to Windows PC and Xbox.
The trailer for “Wuchang: Fallen Feathers” featured a gruesome scene of a forest filled
with dead, hanging bodies, followed by intense sword-fighting gameplay. The game will be released in 2025 and is confirmed for Game Pass.
Set in the world of Control, “FBC: Firebreak” is a multiplayer first-person shooter arriving on Windows PC and Xbox Series X in 2025.
The three-player cooperative shooter is set in Control’s Federal Bureau of Control, under siege by deadly, otherworldly forces. Microsoft confirmed it will be on Game Pass.
The Xbox Partner Preview was packed with exciting announcements and trailers, offering a tantalising glimpse into the future of Xbox gaming.
Transformers: Galactic Trials is an exhilarating addition to the Transformers franchise, blending high-speed racing with intense combat. These relics are crucial as they grant immense power, and both Autobots and Decepticons are in a fierce race to recover them. Players can choose from a roster of iconic characters like Bumblebee, Megatron, and Optimus Prime, each bringing their unique abilities to the battlefield.
The narrative is compelling, drawing players into a high-stakes race across the galaxy. The story is well-crafted, with each mission contributing to the overarching plot of retrieving the Prime Relics. The setting is diverse, featuring various planets and environments that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. Each location is meticulously designed to reflect the unique characteristics of the Transformers universe, from the metallic landscapes of Cybertron to the lush, alien terrains of distant planets.
The storyline is enriched with cutscenes and dialogues that deepen the lore and provide context to the missions. Players will encounter familiar faces and new characters, each adding their own flavour to the narrative. The interplay between Autobots and Decepticons is particularly well-executed, showcasing the longstanding rivalry and the high stakes involved in the quest for the Prime Relics.
The gameplay is a thrilling mix of racing and combat. Players race across various circuits, drifting and boosting to charge up Energon, which can be used to unleash powerful special moves. The game also features a roguelite
element, where players can unlock new skills, characters, and skins as they progress. This blend of mechanics ensures that each race is not just about speed but also about strategic use of abilities and combat prowess. The controls are intuitive, allowing players to easily switch between racing and combat modes. Each character has a unique set of abilities that can be upgraded and customised, adding a layer of strategy to the gameplay. The races are fast-paced and adrenaline-pumping, with obstacles and enemies that require quick reflexes and tactical thinking. The combat system is equally engaging, with a variety of weapons and moves that can be used to take down opponents.
Visually, the game is stunning. The graphics are vibrant and detailed, capturing the essence of the Transformers universe. Each character is meticulously designed, and the environments are rich with detail. The sound design complements the action-packed gameplay, with each character’s unique sounds and voice lines adding to the immersion. The soundtrack is dynamic, enhancing the intensity of the races and battles. The attention to detail in the graphics is impressive, with each Transformer looking and moving as they do in the animated series and movies. The environments are equally well-crafted, with dynamic lighting and weather effects that add to the realism. The sound effects are crisp and impactful, making each explosion and collision feel satisfying. The voice acting is top-notch, with the original castreprising their roles and delivering memorable performances.
One of the standout features of Transformers: Galactic Trials is its replayability. The roguelite
elements and the variety of unlockable content provide plenty of reasons to keep coming back. Each playthrough offers new challenges and opportunities to discover different strategies and character combinations. The game encourages experimentation, with a wide range of characters and abilities to unlock and master. The roguelite mechanics ensure that no two playthroughs are the same, with procedurally generated levels and random events that keep the gameplay fresh. The progression system is rewarding, with new skills and upgrades that make each run feel meaningful. The multiplayer mode adds another layer of replayability, allowing players to compete against each other in intense races and battles.
The character roster in Transformers: Galactic Trials is one of its strongest aspects. Players can choose from a variety of Autobots and Decepticons, each with unique abilities and playstyles. Here are some of the key characters:
Optimus Prime: The noble leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime is a balanced character with strong offensive and defensive capabilities. His special move, “Matrix of Leadership,” boosts his allies’ abilities and provides a significant advantage in combat.
Bumblebee: Known for his speed and agility, Bumblebee excels in races. His special move, “Stinger Strike,” allows him to perform rapid attacks that can quickly take down enemies.
Megatron: The ruthless leader of the Decepticons, Megatron is a powerhouse with devastating attacks. His special move, “Fusion Cannon,” unleashes a powerful blast that can obliterate opponents.
Starscream: A cunning and treacherous Decepticon, Starscream is known for his aeriamanoeuvres and speed. His special move, “Air Strike,” allows him to attack from above, dealing significant damage to enemies below.
Grimlock: The fierce Dinobot leader, Grimlock is a tanky character with immense strength. His special move, “Dino Rampage,” transforms him into a T-Rex, allowing him to crush enemies with ease.
Each character can be customised with different skins and upgrades, allowing players to tailor their abilities to their playstyle. The variety of characters ensures that players can find a Transformer that suits their preferences, whether they prefer speed, strength, or strategic abilities.
While Transformers: Galactic Trials excels in many areas, there are a few aspects that prevent it from achieving a perfect score. Firstly, the learning curve can be steep for new players. The combination of racing and combat mechanics, while innovative, can be challenging to master, potentially leading to frustration for those not familiar with such hybrid gameplay. Additionally, some missions can feel repetitive over time. Despite the variety of environments and characters, the core gameplay loop can become predictable, especially during longer play sessions. This repetitiveness can detract from the overall experience, making it feel less fresh and exciting as players progress. Lastly, while the graphics and sound design are impressive, there are occasional technical issues such as frame rate drops and minor glitches. These issues, although not gamebreaking, can disrupt the immersion and impact the overall enjoyment of the game.
Overall, Transformers: Galactic Trials delivers a robust and enjoyable experience. The combination of a compelling storyline, diverse characters, and dynamic gameplay makes it a standout title in the Transformers series. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the franchise or new to the universe, this game offers something for everyone. The balance of racing and combat mechanics, along with the engaging narrative, ensures that players are constantly entertained and challenged. The game successfully captures the spirit of the Transformers franchise, with its epic battles and high-speed chases. The characters are faithfully recreated, with their personalities and abilities shining through in the gameplay. The story is engaging, with twists and turns that keep players invested in the outcome. The gameplay is fast-paced and exciting, with a perfect blend of racing and combat that keeps players on their toes.
Transformers: Galactic Trials is a must-play for fans of the franchise and racing games alike. The game offers a unique and thrilling experience that is sure to keep players coming back for more. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or a newcomer to the Transformers universe, Transformers: Galactic Trials is a game that should not be missed.

The audio in Transformers: Galactic Trials is generally impressive, featuring top-notch voice acting, crisp sound effects, and a dynamic soundtrack that enhances the gameplay. However, it scores an 8/10 due to some repetitiveness in the music, occasional balance issues where sound effects can overpower important audio cues, and minor technical glitches like audio dropouts or desynchronization. These factors, while not game-breaking, slightly detract from the overall immersive experience.

Hi there! First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to have this chat with us! Can you tell our readers a bit about who you and Outright Games are?
I’m Daniel Fernández García; I’m a producer on TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials at Outright Games, a leading publisher specialising in family-friendly video games and interactive entertainment.
Please tell us what it’s like being a producer for outright games?
It’s great, honestly. I get to work with some of the biggest licences in the industry and amazing development studios. As a producer I get to organise and supervise the process of creating fantastic games for the fans while fostering great relationships with my colleagues and external partners which makes this role a perfect match for me both as a person and a professional.
You have a new game which came out on the 11th of October 2024 called TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials. What is the game about and what can players expect from it?
TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials is the first ever racing game based on the TRANSFORMERS brand. Playing as one of 11 different AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS, the game features a unique hybrid of racing and robot combat that includes roguelite elements, as players go on a mission to recover the stolen Prime Relics that have been stolen by Nemesis Prime. These relics give the players options to customise their playstyle and boost specific characteristics of their characters, allowing them to experience a more unique approach to combat and racing.
What was the inspiration behind TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials
It was an exciting challenge to work on the very first TRANSFORMERS racing game. Being robots in disguise and converting from vehicles
to bots and back is what they’re most wellknown for. We wanted to ensure that a racing game still captured this integral part of the brand. To do this, and to create something new and exciting for the fans, we decided to take inspiration from roguelike titles like Dead Cells or Slay the Spire and create the relic system which allows players to get randomised relics and weapons to customise their playstyle.
What influenced the art style in the world of TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials
TRANSFORMERS is a long-running brand with so much history and such unique designs, so it was very interesting looking back at different tv series, films, comics, toys and games and incorporating them into our game. Inevitably, the original series and animated film were our main sources of inspiration because they’re so iconic, but there are definitely elements from other parts of the franchise; toy collectors might notice that one of our unlockable skins are based on toys created by Hasbro like the shattered glass series.
The main setting of the game is Cybertron (the planet of Velocitron is also featured) and this was incorporated into how we designed the race tracks, from mechanical and high tech designs and a futuristic neon colour palette to create a dynamic looking environment that still feels true to the brand.
TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials breaks the mould of your standard racing game with a genre bending fusion of arcade racing and roguelite elements. How did the team land on this concept, and what makes it such a good fit for the first ever racing game in the TRANSFORMERS series?
We wanted the first TRANSFORMERS racing game to go beyond the definition of an arcade racer, we couldn’t just settle for a game in which you only control the character’s vehicle form so we created this hybrid concept in which you also convert into bot form. We took
inspiration from roguelike games because we wanted to randomise the rewards you get in between races to offer the players a chance to try different playstyles. Also the track selection for each Galactic Trial is randomised to make sure each Trial is unique.
Could you also explain the challenges and benefits of merging roguelite elements with established genres.
Since there aren’t any racing games introducing these elements apart from TRANSFORMERS Galactic Trials we were the first ones to come up with this system, which has its pros and cons. The main challenge that came up was adapting the formula so that it made sense for a racer; however, the benefit was greater as it allowed us to provide a lot of replayability and most of all to give players a choice over how they want to play our game.
Are there any accessibility options available in TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trial?
Yes! The game is equipped with subtitles, as well as control remapping.
Thanks to Outright Games we got the chance to get hands-on with the game, prior to its launch at Gamescom I felt the style and custom options in the game were super cool. What would you say is your favourite Transformer to play as?
I would be lying if I said I don’t have a clear
answer on this. I like all the characters and how we’ve portrayed them in our game, but Nightbird holds a special place in my heart. Her ninja skills are super fun to play around with and her personality really shines thanks to Leah Knauer’s performance. You’ll have to really master the Galactic Trials in order to unlock her so get ready!
Were there any unique challenges that occurred when developing a game like TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials
One of the biggest challenges for us was to execute our hybrid gameplay. As a priority, we focused on track design, so that both forms of each character would create a thrilling experience for players. Because the characters in TRANSFORMERS have both a bot form and and their alternate modes, we felt giving each of the modes a place to shine in our tracks was a must for our game.
Did you have any weird and wacky ideas you wanted to implement into the game but for one reason or another it didn’t make it in?
Of course! In game development there are always those crazy ideas that must be left behind due to time or technological constraints, or simply because they don’t make sense in the overall design.
However, I always try to bring those ideas back for future projects so I won’t spoil the surprise.
Unknown 9: Awakening is a game that takes players on a journey through a world filled with mystery, ancient secrets, and a touch of supernatural elements. Developed by Reflector Entertainment, the game aims to blend narrativedriven gameplay with exploration and puzzlesolving. While it has its moments of brilliance, it also struggles with some outdated mechanics and design choices.
The game is set in a richly detailed world inspired by real historical events and locations. Players take on the role of Haroona, a young girl with mysterious abilities, as she uncovers the secrets of her past and the hidden truths of the world around her. The narrative is one of the game’s strongest points, weaving a tale that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The lore is deep, and the world-building is impressive, drawing players into a universe that feels both familiar and fantastical. This engaging story, with well-developed characters and a rich lore, keeps players invested in Haroona’s journey. The story unfolds through a series of wellcrafted cutscenes and in-game dialogues that reveal the complex history of the world and its characters. Haroona’s journey is not just about discovering her own past but also about understanding the broader implications of the ancient secrets she uncovers. The game does an excellent job of balancing personal and epic storytelling, making players care about both the protagonist and the world she inhabits.
Lore and World-Building
The lore of Unknown 9: Awakening is one of its standout features. The game is set in a world that feels both familiar and mysterious, blending real historical elements with fantastical ones. The developers have created a rich backstory that spans centuries, involving secret societies, ancient artifacts, and hidden knowledge. This deep lore is gradually revealed through exploration, dialogues, and collectible
items, encouraging players to piece together the history of the world and its characters. The world-building is meticulous, with every location feeling lived-in and full of history. From ancient ruins to bustling cities, each environment is crafted with care, offering clues and insights into the game’s overarching narrative. The attention to detail in the environments helps to create a sense of immersion, making players feel like they are uncovering a real, hidden world.
The characters in Unknown 9: Awakening are well-developed and memorable. Haroona, the protagonist, is a compelling character with a mysterious past and unique abilities. Her journey of self-discovery is at the heart of the game, and players will find themselves rooting for her as she uncovers the secrets of her heritage. Haroona’s character is multidimensional, with strengths, vulnerabilities, and a relatable sense of curiosity and determination. Supporting characters are also well-crafted, each with their own backstories and motivations. These characters add depth to the narrative, providing different perspectives and insights into the game’s world. The interactions between Haroona and the supporting cast are well-written, with dialogues that feel natural and engaging. The voice acting further enhances these interactions, bringing the characters to life and adding emotional weight to their stories.
Unknown 9: Awakening features a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. The exploration aspect is reminiscent of classic adventure games, with players navigating through beautifully crafted environments, uncovering secrets, and solving puzzles. The puzzles are well-designed, offering a good balance of challenge and satisfaction. They range from simple environmental puzzles to more complex ones that require a good deal of thought and observation. The game encourages
players to explore every nook and cranny, rewarding curiosity with hidden lore and collectibles. However, the combat system feels a bit dated. The mechanics are simple, and while they serve their purpose, they lack the depth and fluidity seen in more modern titles. Combat encounters can feel repetitive, and the lack of variety in enemy types and combat strategies can make these sections of the game feel like a chore. The stealth elements are a nice touch, but they can sometimes feel clunky and unforgiving, which can be frustrating and break the immersion. The game’s stealth mechanics often require precise timing and positioning, and the penalty for failure can be harsh, leading to some frustrating moments.
Visually, the game is a mixed bag. The environments are stunning, with a great attention to detail and a strong sense of atmosphere. The game’s art direction is commendable, creating a world that is both beautiful and eerie. The use of lighting and colour is particularly effective in setting the mood and guiding the player’s attention. However, character models and animations can feel stiff and outdated. The game’s art direction is commendable, but it’s clear that the technical execution doesn’t always match the artistic vision. This discrepancy can detract from the overall experience, as the outdated mechanics and animations lack the polish of modern games.
The sound design is another highlight. The music is hauntingly beautiful, perfectly complementing the game’s tone and setting. The soundtrack features a mix of orchestral and ambient pieces that enhance the emotional impact of the story and the atmosphere of the game world. Voice acting is generally strong, with performances that bring the characters to life and add depth to the narrative. The actors do a great job of conveying the emotions and personalities of their characters, making the story more engaging and immersive. Excellent music and voice acting enhance the overall experience, adding emotional weight to the story and setting.
On the technical side, Unknown 9: Awakening
has its share of issues. Players may encounter occasional bugs and performance hiccups, such as frame rate drops and texture pop-ins. These issues can be distracting, but they are generally not game-breaking. The developers have been responsive to feedback and have released patches to address some of these problems, but there is still room for improvement. The game’s load times can also be a bit long, which can be frustrating during repeated attempts at difficult sections.
Unknown 9: Awakening is a game that will appeal to fans of narrative-driven adventures and those who appreciate a good mystery. While it has its flaws, the game’s story and atmosphere make it worth playing. It’s a nostalgic trip back to the adventure games of the late 2000s and early 2010s, with all the charm and quirks that come with it. If you can overlook some of its outdated mechanics, you’ll find a game that offers a rich and rewarding experience. However, be prepared for occasional bugs and performance issues that can detract from the experience, requiring patience from the player.
The game’s strengths lie in its engaging story, atmospheric world, and excellent sound design. These elements combine to create an immersive experience that draws players into its mysterious world. On the other hand, the outdated mechanics, clunky stealth, and technical issues can detract from the overall enjoyment. Despite these flaws, Unknown 9: Awakening is a game that offers a unique and memorable adventure for those willing to look past its imperfections. The rating reflects the balance between the game’s strengths and weaknesses. The engaging story, rich lore, and atmospheric world are significant positives that make the game enjoyable and memorable. The sound design, including the hauntingly beautiful music and strong voice acting, further enhances the experience. However, the game is held back by its outdated mechanics, clunky stealth, and technical issues. These aspects can be frustrating and detract from the overall enjoyment. The combat system, in particular, feels simplistic and lacks the depth seen in more modern titles. The occasional bugs and performance hiccups also impact the smoothness of the gameplay experience.
Unknown 9: Awakening is a solid game with a lot to offer, especially for fans of narrative-driven adventures. Its flaws prevent it from reaching higher scores, but its strengths make it a worthwhile experience for those who appreciate a good story and atmospheric world.
8/10
The audio in Unknown 9: Awakening is one of its standout features. The hauntingly beautiful music perfectly complements the game’s tone and setting, enhancing the emotional impact of the story. The soundtrack, with its mix of orchestral and ambient pieces, creates an immersive atmosphere that draws players into the game’s world. Additionally, the strong voice acting brings the characters to life, adding depth and making the narrative more engaging and believable. Overall, the audio significantly contributes to the game’s immersive experience.
7/10
The environments are stunning, with great attention to detail and a strong sense of atmosphere that effectively immerses players in the game’s world. The art direction is commendable, using lighting and colour to set the mood and guide the player’s attention. However, the character models and animations feel stiff and outdated, which detracts from the overall visual experience. While the environments are beautifully crafted, the technical execution of character animations and some graphical elements doesn’t quite match the artistic vision, preventing the visuals from achieving a higher score.
6/10
The game offers a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat, which provides a variety of gameplay experiences. The exploration and puzzle-solving elements are well-designed, encouraging players to delve into the richly detailed environments and uncover hidden secrets. However, the combat system feels simplistic and outdated, lacking the depth and fluidity seen in more modern titles. The stealth mechanics, while a nice addition, can be clunky and unforgiving, leading to some frustrating moments. Additionally, the game suffers from occasional bugs and performance issues, such as frame rate drops and texture pop-ins, which can detract from the overall experience. Despite these drawbacks, the game’s engaging story and atmospheric world make it worth playing for those who enjoy narrative-driven adventures.
AThe game excels in creating an engaging narrative with a richly detailed world and well-developed characters. The story and lore are compelling, drawing players into its mysterious setting. However, the game’s delivery is hindered by outdated mechanics and technical issues. The combat and stealth systems feel clunky, and occasional bugs and performance hiccups can be distracting. Despite these flaws, the game’s strengths in storytelling, atmosphere, and sound design make it a worthwhile experience for fans of narrative-driven adventures. The beautiful environments, haunting music, and strong voice acting enhance the game’s immersive quality, making it a memorable journey for those willing to overlook its imperfections.

Would you believe it’s been more than thirteen years since the last Fight Night game? Thirteen years where there’s been a huge gap in the market for a boxing game, and, to date, no convincing challenger has dared attempt to step into the ring. Until now. Enter Undisputed, the work of Sheffield-based studio Steel City Interactive, a developer whose official website states that it was “born out of passion for video games and boxing”. That passion comes through in a simulation that feels like an extension of EA’s Fight Night series. Bandage up those knuckles, lace up those gloves... we’re going in.
Undisputed will feel immediately familiar to anyone who’s played the Fight Night series –Steel City’s game has lifted the control scheme and mechanics from EA Canada’s game almost wholesale, albeit with a few minor adjustments. It’s testament to how well Fight Night worked to begin with, and, in essence, Undisputed practically plays like a sequel. Where it doesn’t quite live up to expectations is in generating the atmosphere and sense of occasion that comes with a big title fight. Blood and sweat flies, flesh ripples with each bone-crunching punch, but it doesn’t quite have the impact you’d hope.
This is a more realistic, more measured version of boxing, its dynamic physics simulation making for a slower and strategical game. Bash buttons and you’ll wear your boxer out, while throwing a load of big power punches will leave them dazed and vulnerable. As well as a stamina metre, each boxer in the ring has a health gauge for their head and body, so you can target and weaken key areas, leading to a knockout, or more points on your card at the
end of the fight. Like any good boxing game, the idea is to keep your opponent guessing, mixing straights, hooks, uppercuts, and stunning haymakers. What isn’t realistic is the number of times you can knock an opponent flat onto the canvas, bruised and bloodied, only to see them get up again and again. And again. It can get a bit silly.
In Career Mode, you can build your own male or female boxer, then take them from spit and sawdust fights in local clubs to the grandeur of big stadium prize fights. A fairly uncomplicated affair, Career Mode has you balancing training and maintaining your weight to ensure you’re fighting fit, before arranging a bout, negotiating a payout, and then hitting the gym to choose which exercises to partake in. Do you shirk the punch bag and sparring to grow your fanbase and attract better staff? Should you sack your manager, cutman, and trainer for someone better but more expensive? It’s up to you.
It’s pretty uncomplicated stuff, but it’s all rather absorbing nonetheless, as you steadily climb the ranks of the WBC, WBO, IBF, and Steel City’s own SCI rankings. It does eventually settle into a bit of a repetitive cycle, however – choose training options, organise fights, do the fight, rinse and repeat. That’s Career Mode in a nutshell. Outside of that, you have a rotating series of Prize Fights to tackle for a spot on the online leaderboard, whereas Quick Fight mode offers up your standard solo matchups against the CPU or local 2-player face punching.
There’s a bog standard suite of competitive online modes, too, alongside an impressive roster of current boxing stars and iconic
legends, from Tyson Fury to Oleksandr Usyk, Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, Frank Bruno, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Rocky Marciano. While it’s difficult to overlook some of the pro boxers and legends sorely absent from the lineup, like Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and Anthony Joshua (also, with Nigel Benn in the game, we need to be able to pit him against Chris Eubank, who’s also missing here), the 70+ fighters Steel City has squeezed into Undisputed is impressive. So, too, are the boxer likenesses, which are uniformly fantastic.
All the options and features are present and correct, then, as you’d hope, but does Undisputed represent a meaningful evolution over the old boxing games we last enjoyed with Fight Night Champion back in 2011? The short answer is no. If you go and fire up Fight Night Champion in 2024, it still holds up remarkably well. It also manages to engender a real sense of electricity and anticipation that comes with
a big fight, which Undisputed unfortunately fails to do. Ringside audiences are sparse, sound effects are muffled, and the commentary is, at best, serviceable. It’s a real shame that Undisputed falls short in the presentation stakes because the quality of the boxing itself is perfectly robust.
Undisputed is certainly a convincing contender, and after such a long period without a proper boxing sim, it’s great to step back into the ring and see the sport getting the attention it deserves. What’s disappointing is that Steel City’s game simply doesn’t push things far enough. When Fight Night Champion still seems like a legitimate alternative, and, quite honestly, a better game, Undisputed doesn’t quite fulfil its promise as the triumphant boxing comeback we were hoping for. Regardless, if you’re craving a lovingly-made, up-to-date, accessible, and enjoyably fluid rendition of boxing, then Undisputed is really the only game in town.
Despite some glaring roster omissions and little in the way of meaningful evolution over the boxing sims of old, Undisputed enters the ring as a lean and mean contender that’s fighting fit. Just don’t go expecting any seismic shifts when it comes to the boxing formula.
7/10
Audio
5/10
Undisputed’s commentary is perfectly fine, as is the menu music, but the sounds of grunting exertion made by the boxers and muted crowd noise are almost comical. Lacking.
7/10
While the likenesses of the game’s roster of boxers are impeccable, the arenas are devoid of atmosphere. There’s simply no real build-up or sense of occasion to proceedings.
8/10
Steel City’s physics-driven fighting model is very good, but it’s no great leap over EA’s Fight Night games, which are well over a decade old now. Still, Undisputed is a strong, remarkably robust boxing game.
7/10
A fairly conventional Career Mode that does nothing new, and the usual selection of local and online modes you’d normally expect. It’s all cleanly presented, albeit in unremarkable fashion

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed reinvigorates the timeless TMNT franchise with a fresh and exciting actionadventure game. Designed to captivate both die-hard fans and newcomers, it skilfully blends nostalgic elements with modern gameplay mechanics. From the outset, the game promises an energetic romp through the beloved TMNT universe, featuring our favourite heroes in a half-shell battling familiar foes and new threats alike. The game’s vibrant world and dynamic action sequences immediately draw players in, setting the stage for an adventure filled with humour, excitement, and turtle power.
The narrative is a quintessential TMNT tale, filled with classic characters and high-stakes drama. Players guide Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael through a series of missions aimed at thwarting Shredder’s nefarious schemes. The plot, while not groundbreaking, provides a fun and engaging backdrop for the action. As players dive into the game, they’ll find themselves navigating through a series of missions that bring the Turtles face-to-face with iconic villains and new foes alike.
The dialogue is infused with the Turtles’ signature humour and camaraderie, making the story enjoyable for both long-time fans and newcomers. However, the plot can feel a bit formulaic and predictable, which might not appeal to those looking for a deeper, more intricate narrative.
Visually, “Mutants Unleashed” shines with its colourful and vibrant design. The game captures the essence of the TMNT universe, with detailed environments that range from the gritty streets of New York City to the underground lairs of the Foot Clan. Character models are well-rendered, with the Turtles and their enemies looking as dynamic and expressive as ever. The art style is a perfect blend of modern graphics and the nostalgic feel of the original cartoons. The game’s visual appeal is complemented by smooth animations and fluid combat sequences. The Turtles’ movements are fluid and responsive, adding to the overall immersion. Special effects, like explosions and combat impacts, are done well and enhance the action without overwhelming the screen. Despite a few minor graphical glitches, the overall presentation is impressive and immersive.
The gameplay is where “Mutants Unleashed” truly shines. Combat is fast-paced and fluid, with each Turtle offering unique abilities and fighting styles. Players can seamlessly switch between characters, utilizing their strengths to tackle various challenges. The game features a mix of mission types, from stealthy infiltration to full-blown brawls, ensuring variety and engagement. The co-op mode is a highlight allowing friends to team up and experience the adventure together. Whether you prefer Leonardo’s disciplined katana skills, Michelangelo’s nunchaku agility, Donatello’s
tech-savvy staff manoeuvres, or Raphael’s brute force, there’s a playstyle to suit every preference. The variety of enemy types and their attack patterns keep players on their toes, requiring strategic thinking and quick reflexes. While the combat is enjoyable, some missions can feel repetitive, and the AI enemies might not provide enough of a challenge for seasoned gamers.
The audio design is a strong point for the game. The soundtrack features a mix of high-energy tracks that perfectly complement the action, along with some nostalgic tunes that will hit home for fans of the series. The music adapts to the intensity of the gameplay, becoming more dynamic during combat and mellowing out during exploration. Voice acting is solid, with the Turtles and other characters delivering their lines with enthusiasm and authenticity. The actors do a great job capturing the essence of the Turtles, with each character’s personality shining through. Sound effects, from the clash of weapons to the ambient noises of the city, add to the immersive experience. The sound design ensures that every punch, kick, and explosion feels impactful. However, there are occasional issues with sound balancing, such as dialogue being drowned out by background noise, which can detract from the overall experience.
“Mutants Unleashed” offers decent replay value, particularly for fans of the franchise. The variety of missions, character upgrades, and collectibles encourage players to come back for more. Unlocking new abilities and gear provides a sense of progression and incentive to replay missions. The co-op mode adds another layer of replay ability, making it a great game to play with friends. The social aspect of the game is a major draw, as teaming up with friends to take down Shredder’s minions adds an extra layer of fun. However, the repetitiveness of some missions and the lack of significant new content beyond the main storyline might limit its long-term appeal for some players. While the core experience is entertaining, it may not hold the same allure after multiple playthroughs.
The controls in “Mutants Unleashed” are intuitive and responsive, making it easy for players to jump into the action. The game offers customizable control options, allowing players to adjust the settings to their preference. This flexibility ensures that players can tailor the controls to their individual play style, enhancing the overall experience. Accessibility features are also present, including adjustable difficulty levels and various assist options. These features ensure that the game is approachable for players of all skill levels, from novices to veterans. The developers have put effort into making the game accessible, with options like colourblind modes and subtitles, ensuring that more players can enjoy the game.
In terms of technical performance, “Mutants Unleashed” runs smoothly on most platforms, with minimal lag or frame rate drops. The game is well-optimised, ensuring a stable performance even during intense action sequences. Load times are relatively short, allowing players to dive back into the action quickly. The game is stable, with few crashes or major bugs reported by players. The developers have done a commendable job optimising the game, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for players. Regular updates and patches also help address any performance issues that arise, maintaining the game’s stability and improving the overall experience.
The game excels in character and worldbuilding, staying true to the TMNT lore while introducing new elements. Each Turtle’s personality shines through in their dialogue and interactions, making them feel distinct and memorable. The game captures the essence of what makes the Turtles so beloved, from their unique fighting styles to their playful banter. The supporting cast, including allies like April O’Neil and Casey Jones, add depth to the story and enrich the game world. The world of “Mutants Unleashed” is richly detailed, with plenty of Easter eggs and references for fans to discover. Exploring the vibrant, bustling New York City and its hidden underground layers
provides a sense of adventure and immersion. The developers have crafted a world that feels lived-in and dynamic, encouraging players to explore and uncover its secrets.
While “Mutants Unleashed” doesn’t revolutionise the action-adventure genre, it does bring a unique flair with its TMNT theme. The game’s innovation lies in its ability to blend traditional TMNT elements with modern gameplay mechanics. The combination of nostalgic and contemporary elements ensures that the game appeals to both long-time fans and new players. The result is a game that feels both nostalgic and fresh, providing a unique experience that stands out in the crowded gaming landscape. The developers have successfully created a game that honours the legacy of the TMNT franchise while bringing it into the modern era.
The TMNT community has embraced “Mutants Unleashed” with enthusiasm. Fans of the franchise appreciate the attention to detail and the faithful representation of the Turtles. Online forums and social media are buzzing with discussions about favourite missions,
strategies, and Easter eggs. The game has sparked a resurgence of interest in the TMNT series, introducing a new generation of players to the iconic heroes. While some critics focus on the game’s repetitiveness and lack of narrative depth, the overall reception has been positive. The developers have been active in engaging with the community, addressing feedback, and providing updates to enhance the game.

The audio delivers an energetic and immersive soundtrack that enhances the game’s action and nostalgic feel. The voice acting captures the Turtles’ personalities well, and the sound effects add depth to the combat and environment. Visuals capture the vibrant and colourful essence of the TMNT universe. The detailed environments and well-rendered character models bring the beloved characters and their world to life, striking a balance between modern aesthetics and nostalgic charm. 7/10
The playability offers fluid and responsive controls, making the gameplay accessible and enjoyable. The unique abilities and fighting styles of each Turtle keep the combat engaging, while the variety of missions adds to the overall fun. However, the repetitiveness of some missions and the relatively low difficulty of AI enemies can hinder long-term engagement. Despite these drawbacks, the game’s intuitive mechanics and the excitement of playing as the iconic Turtles make it a solid and enjoyable experience.
7/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed successfully captures the essence of the TMNT franchise with vibrant visuals, engaging combat, and nostalgic charm. The game’s intuitive controls, fun co-op mode, and solid audio design enhance the experience. Starship Troopers: Extermination is a co-op sci-fi shooter that brings you into the heart of interstellar conflict against the Arachnid menace. Developed by Offworld Industries, this game has captured the attention of many for its intense action and cooperative gameplay. As a Deep Space Vanguard Trooper, players are tasked with reclaiming planets and securing resources. The game’s immersive experience pulls heavily from its source material, evoking memories of the classic 1997 film. But does it manage to stand out in a crowded market of co-op shooters?
The core of Starship Troopers: Extermination is its 16-player co-op mode. Here, teamwork isn’t just encouraged—it’s essential. Players must coordinate strategies, build defences, and fend off waves of Arachnids. The adrenalinepumping action of battling these giant bugs is where the game truly shines. The combination of strategic planning and frenetic combat creates a compelling loop that keeps players engaged. However, despite the engaging coop experience, the game can sometimes feel repetitive. Missions often follow a similar structure: secure an area, defend against waves, and move on. While this formula can be thrilling in short bursts, it lacks the depth and variety that could keep players hooked for extended periods. The developers have attempted to inject variety through different mission types and objectives, but the core gameplay loop remains largely unchanged. The game’s class system allows players to choose from different roles, such as Rifleman, Engineer, and Medic, each with their own unique abilities and equipment.
This adds a layer of tactical depth to the gameplay, as players must work together to utilise each class’s strengths effectively. However, the balance between classes isn’t perfect, and some roles feel more essential than others.
Visually, the game is a mixed bag. The environments are well-designed, capturing the desolate and dangerous feel of alien planets. The Arachnids themselves are detailed and menacing, providing a genuine sense of threat. However, the game suffers from occasional graphical glitches and texture pop-ins, which can break immersion. The art style stays true to the gritty, militaristic aesthetic of the “Starship Troopers” universe, but it doesn’t push the boundaries of what we’ve seen in recent sci-fi games. The sound design is a highlight, with intense, booming effects that make battles feel chaotic and overwhelming. The sound of gunfire, explosions, and the terrifying screeches of the Arachnids contribute to a visceral audio experience. The voice acting is serviceable, though it occasionally dips into campy territory, which can detract from the overall experience. The soundtrack, while not particularly memorable, provides a fitting backdrop to the intense action.
Progression in Starship Troopers: Extermination is driven by completing missions and earning experience points. As players rank up, they unlock new weapons, abilities, and cosmetic items. This sense of progression can be satisfying, but the lack of significant variation in mission types may lead to a sense of monotony over time. The grind for new gear
and upgrades can feel rewarding, but it also highlights the repetitive nature of the gameplay.
Replayability is bolstered by the game’s cooperative nature and the camaraderie that comes from playing with friends. The dynamic of working together to overcome challenges and coordinate strategies adds a lot to the experience. However, solo players might find the experience less compelling, as the AI companions aren’t as effective or engaging as human teammates. The game also includes a variety of difficulty levels, which can provide an extra layer of challenge for those seeking it.
The game’s technical performance is a mixed bag. On one hand, it runs smoothly on mid to high-end systems, delivering stable frame rates and minimal loading times. On the other hand, players have reported occasional crashes, bugs, and performance hitches, particularly during intense battles with large numbers of Arachnids on screen.
These issues can be frustrating, especially when they occur at critical moments. The developers have been proactive in addressing these issues, releasing patches and updates to improve stability and performance. However, it’s clear that the game could benefit from further optimization to ensure a consistently smooth experience for all players. The community has been active in providing feedback, and it’s evident that the developers are committed to making continuous improvements.
The narrative of Starship Troopers: Extermination is fairly light, focusing primarily on the action and gameplay rather than deep storytelling. The game is set in the “Starship Troopers” universe, drawing on its rich lore and iconic elements. While the story isn’t the main focus, the atmosphere is well-crafted, immersing players in a desperate struggle against an overwhelming enemy.
The atmosphere, however, is where the game excels. The sense of being part of a larger conflict against an overwhelming enemy is palpable, and the game’s visual and audio
design work together to create a tense and immersive experience. The environments are atmospheric, with desolate landscapes and foreboding structures that convey a sense of danger and urgency.
One of the game’s strengths is its active community and developer support. The developers have been transparent about their plans for future updates and improvements, and they have actively engaged with the community to gather feedback.
This level of support helps build a positive player experience, as players feel that their input is valued and that the game will continue to evolve. The community aspect of the game is also important, as the cooperative nature of the gameplay encourages players to form squads and work together. This fosters a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment, which can be particularly rewarding in a game that emphasises teamwork.
In conclusion, Starship Troopers: Extermination is a solid co-op shooter that captures the chaotic thrill of battling alien bugs with friends. While it has its flaws—such as repetitive mission structures, occasional technical issues, and a lack of depth in its narrative—it also has many strengths, including intense action, strong cooperative gameplay, and a well-realised atmosphere. The game’s progression system and class-based mechanics add depth, though there’s room for improvement in balance and variety.
A score of 7/10 reflects the game’s enjoyable core experience, while acknowledging the areas where it could improve. Fans of the franchise and cooperative shooters are likely to find much to enjoy here, especially if they can overlook the rough edges and occasional frustrations. With ongoing developer support and a dedicated community, “Starship Troopers: Extermination” has the potential to grow and evolve into an even more compelling experience over time.
Starship Troopers: Extermination delivers thrilling co-op gameplay with strategic depth, though it’s marred by repetitive missions and technical issues. The game’s atmosphere and intense bug battles stand out, but the balance and performance flaws hold it back. Despite these challenges, it’s a solid option for franchise fans and co-op shooter enthusiasts, with ongoing updates and community support promising future improvements.
7/10
The audio in Starship Troopers: Extermination is one of its standout features, with intense sound effects that make battles feel chaotic and immersive. The booming gunfire, terrifying Arachnid screeches, and explosive effects add a visceral layer to the experience. However, while the sound design excels, the occasionally campy voice acting can detract from the overall atmosphere.
7/10
Visually, Starship Troopers: Extermination is a mixed experience. The environments are detailed, capturing the desolate and dangerous alien worlds effectively, and the Arachnids are menacing and well-designed. However, occasional graphical glitches and texture pop-ins break immersion, and the art style, while true to the franchise, doesn’t push boundaries.
7/10
Starship Troopers: Extermination has solid playability with its 16-player co-op focus and classbased mechanics, making for engaging, strategic gameplay. The thrill of battling waves of Arachnids with friends is a highlight. However, repetitive mission structures and the necessity for teamwork might make the game feel monotonous over time, particularly for solo players.
Starship Troopers: Extermination impresses with its engaging co-op gameplay and well-realised atmosphere, delivering intense and strategic battles against the Arachnid menace. However, the repetitive mission structures and occasional technical issues hold it back from reaching its full potential. The game’s solid foundation is bolstered by strong community support and ongoing developer updates, but its current state leaves room for improvement.

journey. Originally announced in 2010, the project faced multiple delays and periods of uncertainty, with GSC Game World even disbanding at one point. However, in 2018, the project was officially revived, much to the delight of fans. Since then, the developers have shared a series of teasers, gameplay trailers, and behind-the-scenes looks that have built significant anticipation for the game.
Stalker 2 represents a significant leap forward in terms of technical capabilities compared to its predecessors. The game utilises the Unreal Engine 5, enabling stunning visual fidelity and realistic environmental effects. Key technical features include:
Ray Tracing: Enhances lighting and shadow details, creating more realistic and immersive environments.
Photogrammetry: A technique that uses realworld photographic data to create highly detailed textures and models, adding to the authenticity of the game world.

“Stalker 2” plunges players into the heart of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, a place teeming with deadly anomalies, mutant creatures, and rival factions. The storyline is nonlinear, with multiple endings based on player choices, fostering a sense of personal impact and replay ability. The narrative is driven by the player’s interactions with various characters and factions within the Zone. You play as a stalker, a scavenger, and explorer who ventures into the Zone to uncover its mysteries and seek valuable artifacts. The game’s narrative is rich with lore, exploring themes of survival, human resilience, and the consequences of human and scientific hubris. The dialogue is well-written, adding depth to characters and enhancing the immersive storytelling.
The gameplay mechanics in “Stalker 2” emphasise survival, exploration, and combat. Players need to manage their health, stamina, hunger, and radiation levels while navigating the hazardous environment. The game’s AI is sophisticated, with enemies that react dynamically to the player’s actions and the changing environment. Combat is intense and requires tactical thinking. Players can customise their weapons and equipment, which degrade over time, adding a layer of strategy to engagements. The game’s inventory system is detailed, requiring players to carefully manage their resources. The Zone is filled with anomalies and artifacts that can offer unique benefits but also pose significant risks.
Exploration is a key component of the gameplay. The open world is expansive, with numerous hidden locations, side quests, and secrets to discover. Players can interact with

The music score enhances the overall mood, fluctuating between haunting melodies and tense, adrenaline-pumping tracks during combat.

The detailed environments, coupled with realistic weather effects and ambient sounds, make players feel as though they are truly exploring the dangerous and eerie Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. The use of photorealistic graphics and dynamic lighting further enhances this immersive experience, making every moment in the game feel both authentic and haunting.
The game’s narrative is a strong point, with a non-linear storyline that offers multiple endings based on player decisions. Users have highlighted the compelling characters and rich lore, which are deeply woven into the fabric of the game’s world. The choices players make throughout the game have significant consequences, affecting not only the story’s outcome but also relationships with various factions within the Zone. This branching narrative structure provides substantial replay value, as players can experience different paths and outcomes with each playthrough.
The survival mechanics in “Stalker 2” add a layer of depth and challenge that many players find engaging. Managing health, hunger, thirst, and radiation levels requires careful planning and resource management. The game does not hold the player’s hand, instead opting for
a more realistic and hardcore approach to survival. This can be daunting for newcomers but is highly rewarding for those who appreciate the challenge. The AI behaviour is sophisticated, with enemies reacting dynamically to the player’s actions and the environment. This makes each combat encounter unpredictable and challenging. Users have praised the game’s realistic weapon mechanics and the variety of combat scenarios, from close-quarters battles in abandoned buildings to long-range engagements in open fields.
The open world of “Stalker 2” is vast and filled with secrets waiting to be discovered. Players are encouraged to explore every corner of the Zone, uncovering hidden locations, side quests, and valuable artifacts. The world-building is top-notch, with a level of detail that makes the environment feel lived-in and believable. The game rewards curiosity, with exploration often leading to unexpected encounters and new storylines. Users have found that the open-ended exploration keeps the game fresh and engaging, even after many hours of play. While “Stalker 2” has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, there are some areas where users have expressed criticism. The steep learning curve and hardcore survival mechanics can be a barrier for entry, especially for players who are not familiar with the series. Additionally, some users have reported performance issues, particularly on older hardware, and long load times due to the game’s detailed environments. However, these issues are generally seen as minor compared to the overall quality and depth of the game.
From our perspective, “Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl” stands out as a remarkable achievement in the survival horror genre. The game’s ability to immerse players in its world, combined with a compelling narrative and challenging gameplay, makes it a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike. The attention to detail in both the environment

Exploration is a key component that sets “Stalker 2” apart from other open-world games.
The vast and meticulously crafted environment is filled with secrets, anomalies, and artifacts that beckon players to venture off the beaten path. This sense of discovery, coupled with the game’s rich world-building, keeps players engaged and invested in the game world. Every rustle of leaves, distant howl, and crackle of a Geiger counter adds to the immersive experience, making players feel the weight of their solitude and the constant threats that lurk around every corner. However, it’s important to acknowledge the game’s challenges. The steep learning curve and the hardcore nature of the survival mechanics can be intimidating for new players. In the ever-expanding landscape of video games, “Squirrel With a Gun” stands out as a peculiar yet charming oddity. The game’s title alone is an immediate attention-grabber, hinting at the absurdity and humour contained within. Developed as a light-hearted romp through a vibrant world, this game invites players to suspend disbelief and immerse themselves in a world where a gun-toting squirrel is the hero. The game aims to provide a mix of action, adventure, and laughs, wrapped up in a cartoony aesthetic that keeps things visually engaging.
Narrative depth is not the cornerstone of “Squirrel With a Gun.” The plot is minimalistic, serving mainly as a backdrop for the whimsical gameplay. Players assume the role of a squirrel who stumbles upon a firearm and embarks on an adventurous journey filled with unexpected encounters and humorous scenarios. While the game lacks a detailed storyline or character development, it makes up for it with a series of entertaining and absurd situations that keep players intrigued. For those who prefer a narrative-driven experience, this aspect may feel lacking, but it perfectly suits the game’s carefree and comedic tone.
Visually, “Squirrel With a Gun” is a treat. The graphics, though not cutting-edge, are more
than adequate for the game’s tone. The environments are colourful and well-designed, providing a vibrant playground for the squirrel’s antics. The character models are endearing, with the squirrel itself being particularly wellanimated. The game’s cartoony, exaggerated art style perfectly complements its humorous premise. While there are occasional graphical glitches, such as clipping issues and minor bugs, these are infrequent and do not significantly detract from the overall experience.
The gameplay is where “Squirrel With a Gun” truly shines. The core mechanics revolve around controlling a nimble and agile squirrel armed with a variety of firearms and gadgets. The controls are intuitive, allowing for fluid movement and precise shooting. The game offers a range of missions and objectives, from simple fetch quests to more complex challenges involving combat and strategy. The variety of weapons and tools available keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting, although the novelty can wear off after extended play. One downside is the occasional repetitiveness of missions, which can become a bit monotonous over long sessions.
The audio design in “Squirrel With a Gun” is fittingly light-hearted and whimsical. The soundtrack features upbeat and playful tunes
that perfectly match the game’s tone. The sound effects, from the pitter-patter of the squirrel’s feet to the pop and bang of gunfire, are wellexecuted and add to the overall immersion. Voice acting is minimal, which aligns with the game’s focus on gameplay and humour rather than a deep narrative. The audio contributes to the game’s charm, creating an engaging and enjoyable experience.
Replay ability in “Squirrel With a Gun” is a mixed bag. The open-ended nature of the game and the sheer fun of causing chaos as a gun-wielding squirrel provide a decent amount of replay value. Players can return to the game for short bursts of entertainment, exploring different strategies and approaches to missions. However, the lack of significant variation in missions and objectives might
limit its long-term appeal for some players. The game’s charm lies in its novelty, and once that wears off, the incentive to replay may diminish.
“Squirrel With a Gun” is a delightful and whimsical addition to the world of video games. It embraces its absurd premise wholeheartedly, delivering an experience that is both humorous and entertaining. The game’s strengths lie in its charming graphics, engaging gameplay, and light-hearted tone. However, the lack of narrative depth and occasional repetitiveness may deter some players. Overall, it is a fun and unique game that offers a refreshing break from more serious and complex titles. On a scale of 10, “Squirrel With a Gun” earns a solid 7 which is an enjoyable romp with room for improvement.
Squirrel With a Gun has a charming and humorous concept with fluid gameplay mechanics and vibrant visuals that align perfectly with its whimsical tone. However, the game’s repetitiveness, occasional graphical glitches, and lack of narrative depth prevent it from reaching higher scores.
7/10
The audio is playful and perfectly fits the game’s quirky tone. The background music is upbeat and adds to the whimsical atmosphere, making the gameplay more enjoyable. Sound effects, from the scampering of the squirrel’s tiny feet to the firing of various weapons, are well-executed and immersive. However, the absence of voice acting and occasional lack of depth in audio layers prevents it from achieving a higher score.
7/10
The visuals are charming and vibrant, perfectly suited to the whimsical nature of the game. The environments are colourful and well-detailed, making for an engaging playground for your guntoting squirrel antics. Character models, especially the squirrel, are endearing and well-animated. However, the game doesn’t push the Xbox Series X to its full graphical capabilities, and there are occasional minor glitches like clipping issues. These factors contribute to a solid, but not spectacular, 7/10 visual score.
7/10
The playability is both its strength and occasional Achilles’ heel. Controlling the nimble, gun-toting squirrel is surprisingly fluid and intuitive, allowing for agile movements and precise shooting. The variety of missions and gadgets ensures a fun, engaging experience, and the sheer novelty keeps it fresh initially. However, the game’s repetitiveness can become evident in longer play sessions, with missions sometimes feeling too similar.
7/10
Squirrel With a Gun delivers a unique and enjoyable experience that sets it apart from more traditional titles. The game embraces its whimsical, absurd premise, providing players with a lighthearted and fun-filled adventure. The combination of colourful graphics, engaging sound design, and intuitive gameplay mechanics offers a delightful and immersive experience. However, the lack of narrative depth and occasional repetitiveness can dampen its long-term appeal.

Customization has always been a hallmark of the Call of Duty franchise, and Black Ops 6 takes this aspect to new heights. The gunsmith system in Black Ops 6 is robust and intricate, offering players an extensive range of attachments, perks, and skins. Players can modify nearly every aspect of their weapons—from barrels and scopes to stocks and grips—allowing for a personalised approach to combat. This depth encourages experimentation; players can fine-tune their loadouts to suit various playstyles, whether they prefer long-range engagements or closequarters combat. Additionally, the visual customisation options are plentiful. Players can unlock unique skins through challenges and achievements, providing a sense of accomplishment and individuality in matches. The integration of weapon blueprints also allows players to see their creative choices come to life in the heat of battle.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a standout title that successfully integrates deep customization, gripping gameplay, and a compelling narrative, it falls short of a perfect score for a few key reasons.
Despite its overall polish, players have reported
occasional technical glitches, such as minor bugs in matchmaking or frame rate drops during particularly chaotic moments.
While these issues do not significantly detract from the gameplay experience, they can be frustrating, particularly in high-stakes situations. A 10/10 title would ideally present a flawless technical performance, and while Black Ops 6 is strong, these occasional hiccups prevent it from reaching the highest tier.
Another point of contention is the balancing of weapons and operator abilities. While the customization options are extensive, some players have noted that certain combinations can create a disparity in competitive matches. For example, specific loadouts or operator abilities can dominate if not adequately balanced, leading to instances where matches feel one-sided. Continuous updates aim to address these concerns, but a perfect score would require more immediate balance and a consistently fair competitive environment.
The campaign, while engaging and well-crafted, is shorter than some players might expect. At around 8-10 hours, it may leave some gamers craving more content or additional missions to explore. Although replay ability through branching narratives encourages multiple playthroughs, a longer campaign could have enhanced the overall experience. A 10/10 title would ideally provide an expansive single-player experience that leaves players fully satisfied.
While the zombies mode is a fantastic addition, its complexity can be daunting for new players. The learning curve is steep, and without a proper tutorial or guidance, some players might feel overwhelmed by the various mechanics and strategies required to succeed. Making this mode more accessible while retaining depth would elevate the overall experience, aligning it more closely with the standards of a perfect score.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 successfully revitalises the franchise with its engaging campaign, dynamic multiplayer, and robust zombies mode. Its narrative depth, refined mechanics, and communityfocused features position it as a standout title in the series. The inclusion in Game Pass broadens its accessibility, making it a must-play for both series veterans and newcomers. With its innovative approach and commitment to quality, Black Ops 6 earns a commendable 9/10, solidifying its place in the pantheon of great shooters.

Despite these shortcomings, Black Ops 6 stands as a testament to the franchise’s evolution, providing a memorable experience that captivates players from start to finish.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead thrusts players into a world overrun by alien creatures that hunt by sound. Set in the same universe as the films, this survival horror game demands silence and strategy as players navigate a post-apocalyptic landscape. The protagonist, Alex, is a physically fragile survivor dealing with personal loss, which adds an emotional depth to the gameplay. The game’s setting mirrors the tension and eerie silence of the films, making every step and sound a potential risk. The unique premise and reliance on sound mechanics create a truly immersive experience, pushing players to think creatively and strategically to survive.
Story
The story unfolds in the early months of the alien invasion. It follows Alex, a character with asthma, who embarks on a journey for survival amidst the chaos. The narrative alternates between the initial days of the invasion and Day 120, illustrating how past relationships and events shape Alex’s present. The dual timelines allow players to see the immediate impact of the invasion and how it has changed Alex’s world. Her asthma adds a layer of tension, as even taking a breath can attract deadly creatures. The game excels at depicting Alex’s vulnerability and resilience, making her a relatable and compelling protagonist. Her quest for solace and the emotional weight of her journey add a profound layer to the gameplay experience, ensuring players are emotionally invested in her survival.
Gameplay
Stealth is at the core of the gameplay in A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. Players must navigate environments quietly, using a noise sensor to gauge the level of sound they are making. Actions like opening doors, stepping
on glass, and even using Alex’s inhaler can attract the deadly creatures. The tension is palpable as players must move cautiously, using their surroundings to their advantage to avoid detection. The game introduces mechanics gradually, allowing players to get accustomed to the need for silence. The balance between exploration, puzzle-solving, and stealth ensures a varied and engaging gameplay experience. The game’s difficulty lies not in combat but in managing noise and planning movements, creating a unique and intense survival challenge.
The game’s visuals are atmospheric, capturing the eerie, desolate world Alex inhabits. While the graphics may not be cutting-edge, they effectively convey the oppressive and dangerous environment. The character models and environments are detailed enough to immerse players in the world, though some technical issues like frame drops can occasionally disrupt the experience. The use of lighting and shadow plays a critical role in the game’s visual storytelling, enhancing the feeling of dread and isolation. The sound design is where the game truly shines. Every creak, whisper, and breath is crucial, enhancing the sense of danger. The audio cues are not only immersive but also integral to the gameplay, making players acutely aware of their surroundings. The silence is as deafening as the noise, creating a constant tension that keeps players on edge.
The game does an exceptional job of character development. Alex is not your typical action hero; her vulnerability makes her relatable and adds a layer of emotional depth to the game. The interactions with other survivors and
flashbacks to her life before the invasion provide a nuanced understanding of her character. These moments of connection and memory serve to humanise Alex, making her struggles and triumphs deeply personal. This focus on personal relationships and emotional struggles sets A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead apart from other survival horror games, as it blends human drama with survival horror in a way that feels authentic and heartfelt.
The world-building in A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is top-notch. The game uses environmental storytelling to great effect, with scattered journals, newspapers, and remnants of the old world providing context for the invasion. The desolate landscapes and abandoned buildings are meticulously crafted to create a sense of isolation and dread. Each location tells a story, from a ransacked grocery store to a hastily abandoned home, revealing the desperation and chaos that have
engulfed the world. The game’s attention to detail ensures that every location feels unique and adds to the overall immersion, making exploration both rewarding and poignant.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead succeeds in delivering a unique survival horror experience that mirrors the tension and atmosphere of the films. Its focus on stealth and silence sets it apart from other horror games, requiring players to think carefully about their actions. The emotional depth of Alex’s story adds a layer of engagement, making her journey compelling. Despite some dated visuals and technical hiccups, the game’s strong sound design and immersive atmosphere make it a standout title. For fans of the franchise and survival horror enthusiasts, it offers a gripping and challenging experience. Overall, it earns a solid 7/10 for its innovative approach and engaging gameplay.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead effectively captures the tense, atmospheric experience of the films, emphasising stealth and sound management in a survival horror context. The game’s immersive sound design and emotional depth, cantered around a vulnerable and relatable protagonist, make it compelling. However, it falls short with some dated visuals, technical hiccups, and occasional repetitiveness in missions. Despite these flaws, its innovative approach and engaging gameplay make it a standout title for fans and genre enthusiasts.
7/10
The audio delivers an immersive and tension-filled experience that mirrors the silent horror of the films. The sound design is exceptional, with every creak and whisper adding to the game’s suspense. Voice acting is authentic, capturing the emotional depth of the characters. However, occasional sound balancing issues and a need for more varied audio layers prevent it from scoring higher. Overall, the audio significantly enhances the gameplay, making every moment gripping and atmospheric.
7/10
The visuals effectively capture the eerie, desolate atmosphere of the game’s post-apocalyptic world. The environments are richly detailed, with abandoned buildings and overgrown landscapes that evoke a sense of dread and isolation. The use of lighting and shadows enhances the immersive experience, creating tension with every step. However, the graphics are not cuttingedge, with some character models and textures appearing dated. Occasional technical issues, such as frame rate drops, slightly mar the visual experience. Despite these drawbacks, the overall visual design significantly contributes to the game’s haunting ambiance.
7/10
The playability offers an engaging and immersive experience that emphasises stealth and strategic thinking. The controls are intuitive and responsive, making it easy to navigate the game’s treacherous environments. The gradual introduction of mechanics allows players to adapt to the unique challenges posed by the sound-sensitive creatures. However, some missions can feel repetitive over time, and the AI enemies may not always provide a significant challenge. Despite these minor drawbacks, the game’s focus on managing noise and careful movement keeps the gameplay intense and rewarding.
The overall delivery successfully captures the tense, atmospheric essence of the films and translates it into a compelling survival horror experience. The game excels in creating a sense of vulnerability and suspense, with its emphasis on sound mechanics and stealth. The immersive audio design and well-developed protagonist add emotional depth, while the visual design effectively conveys the post-apocalyptic setting. However, the game is held back by some dated visuals, technical hiccups, and occasional repetitiveness in missions. Despite these flaws, the innovative gameplay and engaging narrative make it a noteworthy addition to the survival horror genre.

Hi Sarah! A big thank you for taking the time to have a chat with us! How have you been and what have you been up to recently?
Hi TGG, thanks for having me! I have been very busy this year! Trying to manage chronic illness with content creator life! I’ve been to some amazing events like Final Fantasy, Phantom Peak, Vampire Survivors, MCM X EGX and can’t wait to attend more!
Tell us a little bit about your content creation life? How long have you been doing it, and what made you want to start?
I started my gaming content in 2019! I left a really toxic job and wanted to spread positivity in something I enjoyed. And I really enjoyed gaming and wanted to share it with others. I felt like back in the day gamers always got made fun of or would be considered “losers”, but the truth is people in every field of life game! I have met surgeons, pilots and bankers who all have a passion for gaming! Gamers are cool and I wanted to create a safe space for people who liked gaming who didn’t have anyone to game with. Also, there are so many great skills that you learn from gaming that you can use in real life such as, communication, problem solving, team building, reading and comprehension, and thinking for yourself!
Another thing is I wanted to be inclusive, and I
have a lot of disabled people in my community and that means the absolute world to me! Sometimes the only time they can be themselves is in my stream.
The name “BigFuzzyYak” - where did this come from? What was the origin behind the name?
Haha! I always get asked this a lot because it was so unique. I had a friend steal my AOL/ AIM back in the day, you know toxic teenagers! I had to make a new account. Next to our school there were fuzzy cows, and we always joked about what kind of cows they were. In the end IDK if they were Highland Cows or Yaks or even something else but we would always call them YAKS. My school was in the middle of nowhere obviously, surrounded by farms! I decided Big Fuzzy Yak because the Yaks are Big and Fuzzy, plus it sounded funny and whenever we would say it, people would laugh, and I just wanted to make people happy and the name stuck!
As a content creator, what is your favourite bit of tech, software or plugin that helps you do what you do, and why?
OOOooo this is a tough one! I think my community really likes to use Sound Alerts and Blerp! Basically, people can redeem either channel points or use bits to activate these on stream. They are usually used to troll me which gets everyone into a happy mood!
What has been your favourite moment being a content creator so far?
I think since I have been streaming since 2019 there have just been so many amazing moments! I’ve made friends with people from all around the world who are just so open minded and accepting! Being from a small town most people were very closed minded and I am glad that I was able to escape from that!
Also, I have done things like be there for people in their most difficult times in life. I have been there for people when they have had close family and friends pass away. When people have been in hospital from all sorts of things. I’ve had people say I have saved their life. I’ve also helped someone who became homeless by telling them to get a cheap gym membership in their local area. Who 1 year later they thanked me for taking the time and the suggestion. This way they could still shower and have a place to store their items for when going on interviews for jobs.
From everything you have learned, what advice would you give to the young BigFuzzyYak that was first starting out creating content?
The young BigFuzzyYak unfortunately had very thin skin. I would take a lot of things personally and when people were rude to me, I would cry on stream or end my stream. Now I am fine with just blocking people which I was very scared to do in the beginning, but I learned that tool is there for my mental health as well as my communities!
I’ve always encouraged myself to try new things and make a lot of mistakes because that’s how we learn. And I would keep a journal of everything I wanted to improve with my stream and if anything, broke, how to fix it, so if it happened again I would know how to fix it again. So, I would remind myself to keep journaling that!
And I think an important lesson is that not everyone is going to like you or be understanding of your situation because only you have lived your life and that is okay. You don’t have to please everyone just be happy with your own content and don’t be influenced by people being
so negative.
Most content creators wear many hats and take on many roles. Is there an aspect of content creation that you find challenging?
For me I would always find adding something new to my SLOBS/OBS challenging. I would be on YouTube for hours to learn to setup different things. The number of times I think this will be a quick 10 minutes and it turns into like 5 hours plus and it not working… Looping videos, stopping going back like 5 seconds and repeating to figure out what I needed to do. It was all very challenging to me. I have improved a lot of with my skills and understanding the software and how it works… but let me tell you it was very difficult for me and back then I didn’t have anyone I could ask for help.
Away from your content creation life, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Away from your content creation life I really enjoy food and travelling. I will try any food once!
When I was in university I did my study abroad in Tokyo, Japan for 3 months. I spend the summer before eating things I hated so that way when I went to Japan, I wouldn’t be culture shocked. So, I ate a lot of green olives, which I actually love now. My first night in Tokyo, my host family made Natto. Natto is fermented soybeans! My host family explained to me it is a very Japanese dish and none of their previous students would try it. I said please add it to my plate. And I tried it and asked for me. Preparing before going to Japan by eating things I didn’t like made it seem like it wasn’t that bad at all and I enjoyed it. When I asked for more my host family gasped and were in complete shock. They were so excited that I tried it and couldn’t believe that I asked for more. They said to me they think they are going to love having me because none of their previous students at any of their cooking. My host mom Akiko-san was the absolute best cook and I looked forward to anything she made me! I would always just ask her what the food was, and she would get scared I wouldn’t eat it. But I would ask because I wanted to know what I was eating because what if I never got to try it again? So then she would always tell me what I was eating and I would happily eat it!
Like I said I really enjoy traveling, my family didn’t get to travel much and I would always get jealous of the more fortunate kids getting to go do all these different places. I was from a very small country town and there was nowhere for me to walk to other than farms and woods/ forests. Once I was old enough I started traveling to learn more about the world. I highly recommend it!
I, like many others, am a fan of a sports team; for me it’s football, and I support Arsenal. From what I’ve seen, you seem to be a fan of, or at the very least, interested in many different sports; from F1 and NASCAR, to baseball and pool. How did you find yourself becoming interested in such a wide variety of sports?
I think being American, we are just interested in a lot of sports from a young age. You start playing sports for fun when we are young and I started playing soccer/football when I was 3 years old! I mostly enjoy seeing sports games in person rather than watching on TV. Also, in America, we usually support our local teams first before another team. Any sports teams of Cleveland I am a huge fan! We have Football, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey, etc.
I fell in love with Formula1 by flipping through the channels and stumbled upon Formula1 and Le Mans. I was switching through both the races and I fell in love with Lewis Hamilton! Ever since I have been a Lewis Hamilton fan but I have learned to appreciate all of the drivers and teams! It used to be quite niche but now it has gone mainstream and the meme side is pretty funny! I even got invited to go to Aston Martin F1 HQ and that was an absolute blast. One day I will meet Lewis Hamilton.
For pool / billiards, we had a pool table in our basement growing up. It is my dads favourite sport. I would play with him at home and he would take me to the poolhall. We also had 2 pool tables in my dorms in university which if I couldn’t sleep, I would go play at like 2am. My dad would always go to pool tournaments and we found out that there was the UK Open Pool Championship! So my dad came to England and we went to it this year and the sport is actually so cool to go to in person. I think this was a really good bonding experience as my siblings never really got into it that much. And now I follow a lot of the Pro players on social media since seeing them play and meeting them in person.
Where abouts in the US are you originally from? And what made you decide to move to London?
I tell people I am from Cleveland, Ohio, but I am actually from a small town about 30min drive from there! The reason I moved to London was because of my partner BigFuzzyPanda! We decided that London would have a lot more opportunities, and when it comes to content creation that is absolutely true!
Is there anything you miss from the US now that you’re in the UK?
I miss my family, friends and food! It’s hard being so far away from loved ones especially with flying being so expensive because we need two planes to get back home! I miss the food in America too because there are a lot of different things sold there that are not sold here… but that is for obvious reasons. I also miss theme parks from back home because the rollercoasters are a lot taller!
UK vs US – What is something you think the UK do better than the US, and what is something you think the US do better?
Ooo! You are really putting me on the spot here. America is so big and I only come from such a small part of it… I would say that Americans are a lot friendlier in general. In the UK I have a hard time knowing if the person is making fun of me to my face and if I am not understanding it and thinking they are being genuine lol.
I really like the variety of foods from all over the world in the UK. It’s such a mixing pot whereas I feel it’s so hard to get food from different cultures back home where I am from.
I feel like since I’ve gotten into content creation, I am finally making friends in the UK and it makes me so happy! For the longest time since I moved here, I was made to feel like I was different and not liked because of being American and now that I am making friends it’s changing my outlook and making me so happy!
Jumping to gaming – As a variety streamer you’ve played a wider variety of different games. In no particular order, what would you consider to be your top 3 games as of this moment?
This is a tough one because this can change so fast… I love anything Call of Duty! I love anything Tetris, and then anything else I can play Multiplayer with friends!
What is your earliest memory of experiencing gaming?
My earliest memory of experiencing gaming is my dad took my brother to a pool tournament and got him a Gameboy. He came home with the Gameboy and I got to try Tetris and Mario for my first time. I was obsessed. We later got a NES which we were obsessed with. My parents used to play Tetris together and it was cool to see the castles blast off! My brothers and I got really into the Mario games and Duck Hunt! And then since then we had almost every console since up to a certain point.
Do you have any guilty pleasure games you love playing but your friends and or community tease you for liking?
I don’t, my community always gets interested in whatever games I play. Especially when I play indie games because it will be new to us all.
Are there any upcoming games that you are excited to play?
I’ve really been waiting for Tetris Forever to come out! Which will be out by the time this is released!
If you could choose a game to be remade with the technology we have today, which game would it be?
This is a tough one because so many games have already been remade. I thought the VR Duck Hunt game looked fun but I don’t have VR. I was obsessed with Mech Assault so it would be cool if another game came along like that or another Titanfall game!
The first two times I met you was at Insomnia and WASD, and both of those times I thought you were working for the Alien Hominid Invasion stand because that was the only area I ever ran into you! There have been many events since then, from annual events to one of game or product launches.
In your opinion, do you think it’s important for content creators to attend events?
Alien Hominid Invasion was the first game that took me seriously as a creator! They were so kind and genuine and just excited to speak with me. I was really shocked that a CEO of a gaming company could be so nice and encouraging. Anytime I see them at a gaming convention I feel like I am home and in a safe space and I want people to have the experience I had with them. It was life changing!
I think it is so important for creators to attend events. It’s a great way to get seen by companies and other creators, and to network! There have been gaming events that I wasn’t a content creator for but I would say to people in the industry I stream and show them my page and they would take me seriously.
Showing up and being yourself is absolutely everything, I think sometimes people get discouraged when they don’t get a creator pass, but you don’t need it to network with brands and companies, it’s just like a bonus!
So if you are new or didn’t get a creator pass I would still say to go and speak with people and share your vision, because who knows what opportunities are out there for you if you don’t put yourself out there first!
Are there any events, anywhere in the world, you would love to attend as an invited creator?
Oh Geez, anywhere in the whole world!? I’ve already been so lucky with all of the amazing opportunities that England has to offer!
I would absolutely love to be invited to Japan! I think PAX in Australia and Twitchcon USA would be a lot of fun too! I would also love to attend Gamescon in Germany!
Finally, what are you currently working on that you’d like to or are allowed to share with our readers?
I think everything I am working on will of happened by the time this is released! But I plan to do a charity stream for Cats Protection.
And that’s it! Thank you very much again for taking the time to have this interview with us, it’s been an absolute pleasure. We wish you all the best in the future!

Hi Nimmz! Thank you very much for taking the time to have a chat with us! How have you been and what have you been up to recently?
Hey! Thank you so much for having me. I’m great thank you! Busy! But thankful. Work has been non stop! I’ve just got back from Hosting at Paris Games Week for the Nintendo World Championships NES Edition streamer showdown. It was soo much fun and the energy and vibe at the show was immense. If you’re a gamer you must go!
Tell us a little bit about your content creation life? How long have you been doing it, and what made you want to start?
So, I’m a trained performer, dancer, actor; I went to drama school, but gaming and content creation has always been a hobby of mine. I enjoy making memories that will last forever and things I can look back on and truly show appreciation for a moment in time being captured. I’ve been doing this over 13+ years. Wow! Now that I think about it, that’s a long time lol!
As a content creator, what is your favourite bit of tech, software or plugin that helps you do what you do, and why?
Recently I’ve been really enjoying short form content. I have a mini kit I carry with me. My iphone 15 Pro Max which I do all my recording and pics on. An app called ‘inshot’ which is super user friendly and super quick to get an edit done. And finally my mini portable clip on mics called Hollylands. They are incredible for conversations and interviews. Streaming wise Elgato has got me covered! (Literally) lol. Their simplicity is just so ideal if you work on the go!
As well as being a content creator you are also a fantastic performer and dancer. You were on the Graham Norton Show this year for Justin Timberlake’s performance of his song ‘Selfish’.
What was that experience like and what was it like working with Justin Timberlake?
I still pinch myself from time to time. Like did that really happen to me?! Im still in shock. But it was by far one of THE most amazing experiences of my dance career. Getting past all the tears. The team were incredible, super supportive and Justin was the nicest person I’ve ever worked with. My inner childhood fangirl was screaming the whole time lol. I grew up loving NSYNC and JT music and to say one day I would get to perform with him, a dream come true. Graham Norton was also hilarious and very nice too!
You also performed for the legendary Lenny Kravitz during the Champions League half time show at Wembley Stadium. The atmosphere must have been something else. What was it like performing in front of such a crowd?
Oh my god! There is nothing in this world that can compare to a crowd of 90 thousand people screaming at you in the middle of Wembley stadium. Its soo loud and the adrenaline just takes over. With all the pyrotechnics and smoke and lights, it’s a thrill like no other! So immense!
We had a chat about this when we last met, and you mentioned that the Lenny Kravitz performance was very strict on time. Could you walk us through your experience with the preparation and logistical side of the performance?
So you have to imagine it’s a Champions League football game. Everything is live and choreographed right down to the very last second. In total the allocated time slot for the performance is around 15 minutes. That includes hundreds of staff from the tech team getting onto the pitch and setting up. Lenny and the band and 100+ dancers then running on, performing a 5-6 minute set. Then we got about 5-7 minutes to get everyone off the pitch, including all the staging, lights, pyrotechnics and Lenny with the dancers. To then have both football teams run on, sing national anthems, set up and then kick off. Its so strict and meticulously choreographed.
It’s a work of art in itself how everything is done. Not many people know or understand how much time, work and effort goes into live shows like that. They are so incredible.
What inspired you to pursue performing/ dancing? Do you remember what your first dance/performance gig was?
I come from a performing family. My mother was a professional Indian classical dancer. I remember being a kid and watching all her shows and feeling sooo inspired by our culture, its traditions, and roots. My first ever dance performance was a school play when I was around 6 years old. We performed Snow White and I was dwarf (Sleepy) lol! I remember it soo
vividly!
As a dancer and choreographer, is there a choreography that you’ve seen that just absolutely blows you away?
Oh! There are soo many! But I always have to say some classics that I’ve watched over and over:
1. The Girl Hunt Ballet - Fred Astaire - Cyd Charisse. Which inspired Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal.
Bob Fosse
3. All of Michael Jacksons Videos Lol.
4. (Bollywood Film) Devdas – Dola Re Dola.
5. Missy Elliot – All her videos.
Ok! Il stop. Theres too many haha!
Alongside your many talents, you’re also a host and presenter for Nintendo as well! How did this opportunity come about?
One of my agents at the time knew I was an avid gamer and submitted me forward for a particular show. At the time Nintendo were looking for a new host to be a part of a UK tour. I had to audition, a mock presentation of my favourite Nintendo game which was filmed and sent alongside other candidates. A few days later I got a call saying they loved it and the rest is history!
Out of the various Nintendo hosting/presenting jobs you’ve had, what has been your favourite or most memorable one?
Honestly, every hosting job I do for Nintendo is truly the best time ever! But if I had to pick, my top 3 would be; Hosting the Splatoon 2 UK Championships with the creator Nogami San. The entire weekend was truly magical! Secondly, hosting the Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe European Championships in Germany. And finally the Official Wolrdwide Launch of Nintendo Switch live at Hammersmith Apollo. Each of these shows hold deep places in my heart and I will never forget them. So iconic and once in a lifetime opportunities.
What would you say is the most important skill to develop to be a great host/presenter?
Do your research!!! Know and understand your audience and guest! Always be prepared in case anything goes wrong. Regardless of your style or what you like. Its always imperative to read the room; understand the energy and then engage.
As we’re on the topic of gaming, in no particular order, what would you consider to be your top 3 games as of this moment and why?
Ahhh! Okay its tough because there are soo many good games at the moment. But 3 I really enjoyed recently are:
1. Thank Goodness You’re Here! (Hilarious game! Lol) Such a beautifully made game depicting Northern Yorkshire culture with a 70s-80s vibe. I laughed the whole way through!
2. Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection – I am a massive Marvel nerd and a huge old school Capcom fan. To have this whole collection in one place was my childhood dream.
3. Super Mario Party Jamboree – Me and my friends adore the whole series and the fights and screaming it ensues. The mini games are just epic!
What is your earliest memory of experiencing gaming?
Watching my older brother play Atari ST games on floppy disks (Yeah im that old! Lol)/ It was always soo exciting to watch games like Another World and how spooky and tough they were.
Do you have any guilty pleasure games you love playing but your friends and/or community tease you for liking?
Oooh! Good question! I love wacky games like all the WarioWare games. Another is Rose and Camellia which is like a dramatic Tele Novela and you have to fight in a slap off to be the head of a rich family! Haha! Its wild but hilarious. My friends think Im bonkers but I just love it. There’s so much joy in silly games and it always reminds
me to not take everything so seriously all the time you know?
Are there any upcoming games that you are excited to play?
Monster Hunter Wilds! I had a little play at Paris Games Week and it looks insane. Super excited to play that with a group of friends.
We first met you at Insomnia The Gaming Festival 70 I believe, which feels like a lifetime ago now. Are there any events, anywhere in the world, you would love to attend as an invited creator?
INSOMNIAA!! Gosh that makes me soo sad! Yes! There are a few events I would LOVE to go to. PAX East and West for sure! Also Twitch Con and, the Mecca of Nerdland, San Diego Comic Con! I also would love to see Tokyo Game Show too.
Away from your content creation life, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
SLEEP! Haha. I do enjoy a good chill session with friends. I like to cook and have all the homeys around a dinner table eating, drinking and catching jokes. A good board game is always involved. We all also love to go shopping and buy tons of unnecessary things that make us feel soo happy! Haha! Besides this I am family man, love my nieces and nephews and love to go walking with them, the park, cinema etc.
What has been your favourite moment being a content creator so far?
Getting to meet so many different people from all walks of life. It really has put into perspective for me how connected we all are. I’ve met some of my best friends via content creation and learnt so much about myself to. A moment il never forget, during a show I was hosting. A young man came to me and said its so cool to see someone that looks like him that comes from a similar background as him working in the gaming industry. It inspired him and made him believe that he can also do it. Be apart of it. I genuinely was in tears of joy.
From everything you have learned so far, what advice would you give to the young Nimmz that was first starting out creating content?
STOP STRESSING! Calm down. Stay focused. You are not competing with anyone and don’t compare yourself to anyone. Because you are YOU. And only YOU can do what YOU do best! An affirmation I swear by!
Finally, what are you currently working on that you’d like to or are allowed to share with our readers?
Oooh! I wish I could reveal it all, but NDAs are a thing haha! But I can say I’m working on Christmas Dance Show for a HipHop dance theatre company I dance for called Boy Blue Entertainment. I have danced with them for over 15 years and they are like my second family.
And that’s it! Thank you very much again for
taking the time to have this interview with us, it’s been an absolute pleasure. We wish you all the best in the future!
THANK YOU for having me! You guys are awesome! A pleasure!

Hi Lucia! Thank you very much for taking the time to have a chat with us! How have you been and what have you been up to recently?
Hi there! Thanks so much for having me!
I’ve been great, though definitely busy! Recently, I’ve been deep in preparation for upcoming performances and projects, so it’s been a mix of rehearsals, arranging music, and coordinating with bands. One of my latest highlights has been working on a medley that combines some of my favorite game soundtracks for a… secret, special awards event.
On top of that, I’ve been connecting with the community by performing at conventions and gaming events—it’s a joy to meet people who share the same love for games and music. And of course, sneaking in a little gaming here and there to unwind.
The content creators we’ve interviewed are usually gamers who stream or create content around playing games, but in your case, you’ve swapped the controller/mouse and keyboard for the violin! Could you tell us a little bit about your content creation life? How long have you been doing it, and what made you want to start creating content?
Absolutely! For me, content creation is all about merging my two passions—music and gaming. I’ve been creating content around my violin
performances for a while now, and it really started because I wanted to bring some fun to my violin practice when I was a teenager - and of course, already a gamer.
I began by playing the most iconic themes of Nobuo Uematsu’s Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack, and when the internet arrived at my italian house I noticed some string players were already sharing their passion for videogames - Lindsey Stirling, Tina Guo, Taylor Davis. I decided to follow my passion as they did, and started recording and publishing my first videos around 2010.
What inspired you to pursue being a violinist? Do you remember your first performance?
A: When I was around 7, my father took me to a rock concert, and it left such a huge impression on me! I remember watching those musicians on stage: they looked so free, so in the moment. I was blown away by how everyone in the crowd was just mesmerised, hanging on every note. I knew right then that I wanted to feel that same connection with people through music.
At first, I actually wanted to play the double bass! But my dad (thankfully!) convinced me to start with a “smaller version,” so I gave the violin a try—and from the moment I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. I was totally hooked! Later on, in my teenage years, I finally got my hands on a bass, so I got to explore that side of my
musical roots too. But it’s safe to say the violin has had my heart from the beginning!
My first performance was when I was 12. Back then, I was studying classical music, and I played as a solo violinist with my local school orchestra. I still remember the piece like it was yesterday, it was Vivaldi’s A minor Violin Concerto. It was such a big moment for me at the time!
Thinking back on it now, it’s kind of hilarious to realise that I’ve gone from Vivaldi to playing video game music/prog metal on stage! It’s been a wild journey.
As a musician content creator, what is your favourite bit of tech, software or plugin that helps you do what you do, and why?
I think I would be completely lost without Adobe Premiere Pro, especially with all the new tools for colour correction and audio/video sync. The colour grading tools help me match the tone of whatever game or genre I’m performing — whether it’s a dark moody track from Cyberpunk
or something bright and adventurous from a classic RPG.
I also rely a lot on plugins for sound quality, like iZotope RX, which helps clean up any background noise and makes sure my violin sounds as clear and punchy as possible.
What has been your favourite moment being a content creator so far?
Playing at Lucca Comics and Games in Italy (one of Europe’s biggest comic conventions) was absolutely one of my favourite moments! I performed in front of an audience of over 5,000 people, and the energy was just unreal. Seeing so many people, all gathered for their shared love of games, comics, and music, and knowing that I was adding to that experience with my violin... It was such an unforgettable feeling. After the performance the emotions were at such a high level that to regulate I started crying like a baby for the following 5 minutes.
From everything you have learned so far, what advice would you give to the Lucia that was first starting out creating content?
If I could go back and give early-day Lucia some advice, I’d tell her to embrace her unique style and not be afraid to go all in on her passions. At first, I was so focused on getting everything “just right” that I’d sometimes forget to have fun with it. I’d remind her that the things that make her different (her love for gaming, classical violin, and metal)are exactly what will connect with people. I’d also say: don’t be afraid of mistakes or experimenting. Trying new things, even if they don’t work perfectly, is how you find your voice and grow as a creator. And finally, I’d remind her to enjoy the journey: every performance, every new follower, every collaboration. They’re all part of the story, and it’s been such an amazing ride!
Is there an event or venue that you would love to be able to play at one day?
Definitely EGX, San Diego Comic Con, The Games Awards, Blizzcon, London Comic Con, Wacken, and… so many more. I wish I could do every event. The more events, the more the beautiful connections with people.
You’re known as The Nerd Violinist, but the violin is not the only instrument you are proficient with. How many other instruments do you know how to play?
The violin may be my main love, but I’ve picked up a few other instruments along the way! Besides the violin, I also play the electric bass, which I started learning as a teenager (I was in a Grunge band, playing Nirvana and Foo Fighters all the way!). I’ve always been drawn to the bass’s deep, grounding sound, and it’s been fun exploring it, especially for rock and metal styles.
I can also play a bit of piano, which has been super helpful for composing and arranging music. While I would NEVER call myself a pianist, knowing my way around the keys has definitely opened up new creative possibilities, especially when I’m working on more complex arrangements.
Did you pick up new instruments with relative ease? Will a person have an easier time learning other string instruments once they know how
to play one? Like the theory transfers across different types? Or is it completely different and it all starts from the ground up?
For me, picking up other instruments definitely came a bit easier after learning the violin, especially with other stringed instruments like the bass. There’s a familiarity with finger positioning, muscle memory, and a basic understanding of music theory that transfers really well. Once you understand concepts like intervals, scales, and how to navigate a fingerboard, it can make learning another string instrument feel a bit more natural.
That said, each instrument has its own challenges! For example, violin and bass both involve fingerboards, but the technique is pretty different—violin requires a lot more precision with finger placement because of the lack of frets, whereas bass often demands a stronger sense of rhythm and power.
The music theory aspect does carry over, though, and that can be a big help. Knowing how scales, chords, and keys work means you’re not
starting from zero. So, if someone knows one string instrument well, they’ll definitely have a head start on another. But every instrument has its own “personality,” so there’s always something new to learn.
As well as your own content, you’ve also worked on music for video games as well. Could you describe what your experience was like with composing video game music and working with the developers to create something that feels at home in the game?
Composing music for video games has been such an incredible experience! There’s something special about creating music that doesn’t just sound good on its own but feels like an extension of the game’s world and story. When I work with developers, the process is all about capturing the right mood rather than creating the perfect melody. We usually start by discussing the vision for the game, the setting, the characters, and the feelings they want players to experience.
One of the unique challenges with game music is making sure the music can loop seamlessly or adapt dynamically to gameplay. So I’m always thinking about how to keep the music engaging over longer stretches of time and how it can evolve with the player’s actions. Sometimes I’ll even create different layers or variations of a theme that can stack or shift depending on what’s happening in the game.
The most rewarding part is finally seeing (and hearing!) the music in context.
As we’re on the topic of gaming, in no particular order, what would you consider to be your top 3 games as of this moment and why?
Definitely Bloodborne, Final Fantasy VII, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! Each of these games holds a special place in my heart, and they all influenced me musically and creatively in their own way.
Bloodborne is an absolute masterpiece. Its dark, gothic atmosphere and Lovecraftian themes are like no other, and the soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful. The violin sections in particular give me chills! I love how it blends
horror with elegance, and it’s always inspiring for me when I want to create something with that intense, dramatic energy.
Final Fantasy VII — I mean, what can I say? It’s iconic. The story, the characters, the music... Nobuo Uematsu’s compositions are legendary, and they’ve influenced so many musicians, myself included. The melodies are powerful and emotional, and every time I play it or even hear a track, it brings back memories. This game was a huge part of my childhood and is a constant reminder of the impact music can have on a story.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is just pure, gothic, vampire-hunting brilliance! The mix of classical and rock-inspired music is amazing, and it was one of the first games where I really felt the music matched the gameplay perfectly. Playing as Alucard through that epic castle with those incredible tracks playing in the background was unforgettable. I think my love for gothic and classical music definitely traces back to Castlevania.
Each of these games has left its mark on me, both as a musician and a gamer.
Do you have any guilty pleasure games you love playing but your friends and/or community tease you for liking?
Well… I have to admit it. As I’m getting old, Candy Crush really helps to unwind. Now I can go hiding in my shame.
Are there any upcoming games that you are excited to play?
Definitely! I’m waiting for whatever FromSoftware has in store next. And of course, I’m eagerly awaiting anything new in the Final Fantasy series. Square Enix has a way of reinventing the series while keeping that unmistakable Final Fantasy essence alive.
But also: Hades II, The First Berserker Kazhan, and… any new Atelier Series or possible Castlevania title!
Being a fan of metal myself I would love to know, who is your favourite band/artist? And
what new band/artist have you discovered recently that you think everyone should check out?
Oh, this is such a tough question! But if I had to pick, I’d say my favourites are a mix of Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Rhapsody, and a few others. These bands all bring something unique: whether it’s insane technical skill, powerful storytelling, or just epic, symphonic energy. Dream Theater especially has been a huge influence because of how they blend classical elements with progressive metal, and after the return of Portnoy I’m definitely looking forward to what they will release next.
As for new discoveries, Sleep Token and I Prevail have definitely grabbed my attention lately! Sleep Token has this incredible, haunting vibe that’s almost hypnotic, blending metal with atmospheric, almost cinematic sounds. And I
Prevail is just pure, high-energy with a modern edge that’s both heavy and emotional (very useful for my weightlifting sessions).
Have you ever been in a band yourself?
I have indeed! Over the past decade, I’ve had the chance to be part of quite a few bands, exploring different genres and styles(rock, folk, cartoon cover bands, anime bands, quartets, reggae, etc.), which has been an amazing experience.
And currently, I’m in a prog metal band called HeKz! It’s such a fantastic creative outlet: we blend heavy riffs, intricate rhythms, and epic melodies, which is right up my alley. Being part of a band like this allows me to experiment with my violin in ways that push boundaries, and I love the energy and collaboration that comes with creating music as a group. It’s a thrill! We perform all over the UK and this year did a tour in the UK and the Netherlands.
Finally, what are you currently working on that you’d like to or are allowed to share with our readers?
There’s a lot coming up that I’m excited about! I have several upcoming concerts where I’ll be performing as a solo artist, bringing some epic video game music to the stage, and of course, I’ll also be playing with my prog metal band, HeKz.
I’m also gearing up for the next big nerd events in London, where I’ll hopefully get to connect with more of the gaming and anime communities. I can’t share all the details just yet—no spoilers!—but there’s some cool stuff in the works. Definitely keep an eye on my social media for updates, because there’s a lot on the horizon!
And that’s it! Thank you very much again for taking the time to have this interview with us, it’s been an absolute pleasure. We wish you all the best in the future!
