few artists use drugs with the intention to express an inner world within the mind. For me, art is a spontaneous outburst of emotions driven by experience or triggered by intense emotion.” The contemporary artist also collaborated with the Punebased arts collective, Kingdom of Calm, that creates eco-friendly products, accessories, apparels and merchandise. Recently, Bhushan has launched his own clothing line, called Psyd Effects, to offer inimitable, psychedelic designs. “To ensure that I survive doing what I love, I’ve launched a custom art print-driven label,” he explains.
Bhushan realises his humble status as an artist but that doesn’t deter him from aiming to be the best within his genre. “My focus is to make the greatest art ever by exploring and experimenting with ideas. I might have the resources to travel the universe, but I have my imagination, which can take me as far as I desire,” he replies. His works capture people, revealing their abstract anatomies in detail. The series, titled Heroes of the Subconscious World, features human nervous systems and skeletal structures along with psychic and other metaphysical energies.
People often have to look at each painting for a while before they can grasp all the details. There is so much complexity in each piece. The most common response after one looks at Bhushan’s art for the first time is stunned silence, then a slow appreciation builds. “The series is a reflection on fallen heroes from a real world. I believe the works are a product of whatever is deep in my subconscious. I sat down with a piece of paper and pencil and this came forth. THRILL OF DRIVING
India’s first bonafide sports car. Exactly how much fizz are you getting for your money?
A
Ferrari for somebody who cannot afford a Ferrari.” If you don’t know Dilip Chhabria, this will sound like a frightfully indulgent boast, but DC is a very straight forward, very matter of fact kind of guy. Car modification, even the radical kind that DC is famous for, is one thing. Building a car from the ground-up is a totally different kettle of fish. Engineering every little detail, sourcing components, validating and ensuring the powertrain warranty won’t drown the company, getting the ride and handling sorted, making sure the rear doesn’t overtake the front when you stand on the brakes – these are things that even large scale manufacturers with many thousands on the payroll don’t get right very often. First impressions are of the take-mybreath-away kind. The Avanti is a sight and a half; there will be no slipping under the radar if you’re driving one of these cars. Now styling is a very personal subject and you might not like what I desire, so I will leave subjective opinions aside. Quiz DC and he admits he wanted to “shock” people, and that the Avanti does. It is also a design that grows on you – on first impressions it comes across as dramatically overdone, but then you notice the details, the tension in the surfacing, the
sheer outlandishness of the design, and you appreciate what DC set out to do – to make a statement. Whatever your design sensibilities, there’s no getting away from the fact that the whole world will sit up and take notice. The Avanti is red, it’s low, it’s long and its carbon-fibre body work is definitely striking. I’m not sure if it is beautiful, but I’ll leave that to you to decide. And all said and done, the Avanti stays true to the DC school of design; every single one of their designs have split opinion, have fuelled vociferous debate and attracted love and hate in equal measure – and yet DC have signed on more dealers, who keep finding more customers, so obviously they are doing something right. Another, very surprising aspect of the Avanti, is the fit and finish. Panel gaps are surprisingly tight and uniform all throughout the car, the paint finish is extraordinarily good and nifty details abound all over the body. And if you think the open-jawed nose is inyour-face, wait till you see the dramatically sloping rear profile and long rear overhangs. Let me repeat myself for effect: if you get yourself an Avanti, the whole world will want to know about you. Step inside and there’s little of the overthe-top exuberance that characterises the exterior. If you’re a nerd like me, the first five
minutes will be spent taking in the familiar parts – keys and stalks from Tata, dials from Force, air-con vents also from a Tata. Which doesn’t worry me. What does, is that the ergonomics don’t seem spot-on. Entering it is a typical supercar affair – bend low, swing your legs over the wide sills, make sure you don’t knock your head on the roof, but that’s to be expected. For me the problem is the seat base slopes downwards, the pedals are off-set to the left, and there’s no steering or seat height adjust. I suspect six-footers will have a problem fitting inside, but then again everything is bespoke, so DC will have a solution for you. The bespoke business includes roof lining in whatever material you want, leathers in whatever colour you
fancy, digital instruments that are claimed to have the resolution of an iPad, different steering wheel designs (there are no airbags, only ABS), keyless ignition and more. What I would suggest, is a little more attention to fit and finish to match expectations of buyers who would naturally have been exposed to the likes of Mercedes, BMW and Audi. The view out is typically supercar – you can’t see much behind you except for the transversely mounted engine (a reverse camera is standard), and the view forward is something like that of a Gallardo. But hey, even in a Lamborghini or any hardcore sportscar, you won’t be able to see the edges of the nose, so I’ll forgive the Avanti all this. Dip in the slightly heavy clutch, snick into neutral and twist the key (our test car didn’t have keyless start) to fire up the 1998cc engine. The clutch is a bit tricky to modulate and it is easy to stall the car, so there’s a bit of slipping and revving to get a clean start. It’s a smooth engine, one that sends in just the right amount of buzz to tell you’re in something that’s designed for Above: Stubby exhaust has two outlets, differentiating the Gixxe performance. The

THRILL OF DRIVING Left: A decent looking interior, which will be bespoke, so you can do what you like with it. Ours came with a mix-and-match of components from other manufacturers. Right: Fairly standard-looking clocks. Below, left: The RenaultSport engine is transversely mounted behind the cabin, and there’s enough space there for potential motor upgrades
Specification: DC Avanti
Engine In-line, 4-cyl, 1998cc turbo-petrol Transmission 6-speed manual Power 248bhp @ 5500rpm Torque 340Nm @ 2750-5600rpm Weight 1580kg 0-100kmph 6.0seconds (claimed) Top speed 200kmph (limited) Price `34.93 lakh engine’s responsiveness is impressive – there’s not much lag and when the turbo comes on at around 1800rpm, there’s strong shove accompanied by turbo whistle and hiss. Even off-boost, there’s good grunt, so it should be a breeze in traffic. The engine revs to 6200rpm which may not be much, but the closely stacked ratios in the six-speed manual transmission help you get the best out of it. DC claims a sixsecond 0-100kmph time, though we suspect it will be closer to the 7.5-second mark, while top speed is limited to 200kmph. The engine is mounted transversely behind the driver and located mid-ships within the wheelbase for ideal weight distribution and to deliver the holy grail – mid-engined handling. Both the engine and six-speed transmission are sourced from Renault Sport, and it was not a take-it-and-forget-it affair. We are told Renault Sport engineers from France were actively involved in the installation of the engine in the Avanti, the testing and validation and particularly to ensure the thermal mapping was spot-on for our hot climes (twin radiators sit in the nose). With 248bhp of power, the turbo-petrol is in a mild state of tune and that leaves a lot of potential for performance enhancement, either via sporty engine maps supplied by DC themselves or the tuning industry that has mushroomed all across the country. What it does need pronto is
more feedback and it isn’t the precision tool you would expect of a sportscar, though we are told there’s a software update imminent for the electric power steering. The brakes are 330mm ventilated discs up front and 295mm solid discs at the rear, with ABS that offers strong bite but does suffer from fade. Despite the great body control, the ride quality is quite supple. It must have taken quite a bit of head-scratching to get a good ride, what with 20-inch rims and low profile tyres, and we’re happy to say that DC has got this right. It soaks up bigger bumps with ease and the overall ride comfort is surprisingly good. The Avanti even has good ground clearance (170mm of it), so that’s one less thing to worry about when you take it out for a road trip. If you do take it out for a road trip though, you’ll have to carry nothing more than a few T-shirts, a toothbrush and your credit card, because there’s no boot. Under that long rear hood is space for an engine and spare wheel, and under that aggressive snout is space for Verdict the radiator and the battery. + Style, package, There’s not much storage space inside either – you price get a cubbyhole behind - Interior ergos, space,
a sportier-sounding exhaust, since the muted buzz from behind your ears is not very soul-stirring. The chassis spec is storage really impressive. The TOD rating panels are all made of ;;;34 carbon fibre but they are not load-bearing panels; instead they are mounted on to a very rigid box-section space frame chassis with independent, double wishbone suspension on all four corners. The chassis has top quality genes, having been adapted from a Noble design, but it’s beefed up considerably to cope with Indian conditions. It basically has been over-engineered, which has pushed the weight up to 1580kg. The struts are from Koni, while higher quality adjustable dampers will be on offer later for owners who want to set up the car to suit their own (road or track) requirements. The forged suspension arms are made in-house in Pune, and it keeps in touch with the road via a set of 20-inch Pirelli P-Zeros. It all adds up to a car that corners flat, has great body control and lots of grip. Yes, with 255-section front and 295-section rears, the grip is really good. This and the engine’s strong power delivery prove to be quite an exciting mix on the move. The steering needs a bit of work though – it needs
the seats and a tiny glovebox and door pockets. Basically you take off with your better half to Mahabaleshwar while your man is sent ahead with the kids/dogs and luggage. Or maybe not. The Avanti hasn’t been designed for, nor is it targeted at the super rich. They can buy their Ferraris, says DC; the Avanti is for the uppermiddle class guy who has supercar aspirations – and that’s why the `35 lakh tag, a price point at which there is nothing like it. DC claims most of the bookings are not from Malabar Hill, but the suburbs of big cities and smaller cities. Guys like you and me who want to live out our Ferrari and Porsche fantasies, but can’t really afford one thanks to our dear government’s duty structures. And he also claims the first year production (which when ramped up in June will be 30 cars a month) is already spoken for. This is just the start. DC haven’t invested so much time, effort and money to build a oneoff; the construction is like a kit car and higher quality components can easily be plugged in; the chassis has tremendous potential, weight can be shaved and twice the power can be handled; the current motor can go up to 270bhp; there is enough space to shoe-horn a V6 at the back; the tyres are already as wide as a Lambo’s. What I’m getting at is that the ingredients are all there for real fireworks in the days to come. And DC has already started sketching out the follow-up car! Ouseph Chacko

Gujarat’s loss is Pune’s gain
Tennis player Ankita Raina chose Pune over Ahmedabad for the great sporting facilities the city offers. She isn’t the only one. Athletes from as far as Kolkata, even remote villages in Maharashtra, are making their way to Pune for the city’s sports training infrastructure By Ashish Phadnis @phadnis_ashish
P
une is steadily turning home to national and international level kabbadi, American football, soccer, table tennis, badminton, and tennis players, shooters, swimmers, and sportspersons of nearly every hue. Along with players, support staff, ranging from coaches and fitness experts to sports psychologists and nutritionists, have also made the city their base. Clearly, with so many sportspersons around, big ticket names wouldn’t be far behind. So, Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan-owned Indian Super League team, FC Pune City, Pro Kabbadi League team, Puneri Paltan, and American Football team, Pune Marathas, have set up base here over the last few years. The number of sportspersons waiting to turn Punekars is increasing by the day. Sports clubs and gymkhanas like Deccan Gymkhana, PYC Gymkhana, Club Solaris and Poona Club are only helping them strengthen their decision. The city has turned into an epicentre for professional sports activities thanks to aligned infrastructure development. The multi-equipped Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, at Balewadi, offers training and competition courts for over ten different sports. The complex is home to numerous sports academies, including Olympian Gagan Narang’s Gun For Glory Shooting Academy, Olympian Nikhil Kanetkar’s Badminton Academy, Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association’s (MSLTA) School of Tennis, and
the state government’s sports development scheme, Krida Prabodhini. Further, Indian Davis Cup team coach Nandan Bal, former Davis Cup player Sandip Kirtane and several international coaches run their own sports academies in the city. Add the Liverpool Football Academy at Loni and the international cricket stadium at Gahunje to the burgeoning list. There are also social organisations, such as the sports NGO Lakshya, and corporates Bharat Forge and Kalyani Group that extend support towards talented sportspersons living in the city. By now, if you aren’t left breathless just reading these names, you should give yourself a pat on the back. The most positive news coming out of these sports training centres is that the number of youngsters signing up for training and proving themselves as professional sportspersons is increasing by the day. MSLTA secretary, Sunder Iyer points out, “The city has over 500 tennis courts and 6,000 players are seen training regularly on these courts. The large number of tournaments Pune hosts, annually, gives the players the right exposure. Qualified coaches also help Pune players dominate the national circuit and, naturally, attract players from other cities.” To prove his point, Sunder lists India number 1 Ankita Raina, India number 2 Prarthana Thombare, and Indian Federation Cup player Rutuja Bhosale as a few top ranked tennis players, who now proudly call themselves Punekars. TGS Life meets four young, promising sportspersons, who have decided to make this city their karmabhoomi:
Varun Kapur, 13, badminton player The number of young sportspersons choosing to make Pune their home is a proof of how parents’ mindsets are changing for the better. Take the case of 13-year-old Varun Kapur, whose parents, Rohit and Gayatri, decided that they would move cities just so that their son could train better. Kolkata-based Kapurs were keen that Varun train under Olympian Nikhil Kanetkar at Balewadi. Although Rohit couldn’t shift out of Kolkata due to professional commitments, Gayatri, who works with Taj Blue Diamond Hotels, sought to be transferred to Pune for the sake of her son’s sporting career. “It was not an easy decision, but our son’s career was more important to us. He is currently ranked in the Indian top-20 in the under-13 age group and we have high hopes from him,” says Rohit, while talking to TGS from Kolkata. Rohit adds, “Varun had been visiting Pune to participate in the summer camps organised by Kanetkar’s academy for the last three years. These camps helped improve his game and, in order to seek advanced training, we shifted to Pune. The city also offers quality education so it made our decision slightly easier. Varun has enrolled in standard seven at Ryan International School and he is doing well academically too.”

Manthan Shah, 16, table tennis player
FEATURES
Five years ago, Manthan Shah was a table tennis player with average rankings in Ahmednagar district. Then, he heard of the training facilities available in Pune and decided to enrol at the Masters Table Tennis Academy (MTTA) at Balewadi, run by international player Bhushan Thakur. Manthan’s parents supported his decision wholeheartedly and shifted to Pune within 16 days. “We visited Pune to meet Bhushan Thakur and he put Manthan on a 15-day trial so his mother stayed in a hotel along with him,” recalls Manthan’s father Anand Shah, adding, “When, Thakur sir admitted Manthan to his academy, we shifted to Pune the very next day. It was a major decision and Kavita, his mother, made a huge sacrifice. It’s not easy to leave everything behind and start from scratch in a new environment but, for Manthan’s future, we did it. Initially, it was very difficult to cope in the new city. Manthan did not get admission into a school for almost two years. He cleared the exams externally before he got enrolled at the Symbiosis Open School, Prabhat Road.” The tough decision that the Shahs took has finally paid off for Manthan. The young player has been able to undergo rigorous training sessions to better his fitness level. “Now we have got together an entire team, including a nutritionist, psychologist and a physical trainer - everything a player needs. This wouldn’t have been possible back in Ahmednagar. Manthan has also got opportunities to test his skills against top players. As a cumulative effort, his performance has improved dramatically,” explains Shah.
Tejaswini Muley, 23, shooter International shooter, Tejaswini Sawant, who hails from Phulambri, a small village in Aurangabad district, shifted to Pune pursuing a dream to become a famous shooter. Fortunately, the upcoming shooter was noticed by NGO Lakshya and she started training at Gun For Glory Shooting Academy, Balewadi. Tejaswini went on to win the senior bronze and junior gold medals at the KSS National Shooting Championship, held in Pune, in 2011. Last year, she was selected to represent India at the ISSF World Championship. The winner of Maharashtra’s highest awards for sports, the Shiv Chhatrapati Award, criticises the dismal sports infrastructure in her hometown. “There is no proper infrastructure available back home. Even though Aurangabad has produced many talented sportspersons, there are no professional trainers to help the talent flourish. One just cannot stay back there and aim high,” says a disheartened Tejaswini. Tejaswini’s decision to move to Pune was strengthened when the NGO Lakshya agreed to support her. “When I moved to
Pune, Lakshya provided a helping hand and I started training under top coaches like Lurii Mikhalkin from Russia, Sanjoy Chakrawarty in the 50m category, and Suma Shirur in the 10m category. I have participated in over 20 national and international championships. It would not have been possible, if I had stayed back in Aurangabad,” she states, emphatically.
Ankita Raina, 22, tennis player Born and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Ankita moved to Pune with her mother, Lalita, for advanced training and was supported by the NGO Lakshya. In no time, she became the first Indian woman tennis player to reach the $25,000 ITF Women’s singles final in 2013. Ankita even won three $10,000 ITF singles titles in the same year. “In my childhood, during summer vacations, I would travel to Pune with my mother and brother Ankur to visit our relatives. Since my mother did not want us to miss our tennis sessions, she found a training centre at PYC Gymkhana and got us enrolled under Hemant Bendrey. That’s how we knew about the city having a good sports
culture. Later, when I turned 14, my brother was certain that he wanted me to move here for better training. I have now been training in Pune for the past eight years,” smiles Ankita. Moving cities just to support a passion for sports was not an easy decision for the Rainas, “But I was 14 at the time and my parents wanted me to do better, so we moved to Pune.” Ankita believes her training got the crucial push that was needed at the time because of the family’s decision to move to the city. “I have reached a certain level in my career because of the training that I got in Pune. The city clearly holds a very special place in my heart. Overall, the feel of the city is very energetic. Moreover, Pune has great weather for training almost throughout the year, which has always been a plus point,” she adds. ashish.phadnis@goldensparrow.com

Culture Machine and KC Loy released a Marathi folk song to celebrate Maharashtra TGS NEWS Service @TGSWeekly
W
hile the city entailed on Friday thanks to the long weekend, a few strived to live up to the spirit of Maharashtra Day. Culture Machine and KC Loy came together to release a music video to mark the day. Maharashtra Day is observed to commemorate the formation of the state of Maharashtra and is associated with parades, speeches and ceremonies. This year, Culture Machine Digital Video Entertainment Company aimed to do something different. Culture Machine, as the name suggests, aims to highlight the rich and diverse culture of the country through their digital channels. Culture Machine, in collaboration with KC Loy, released a music video which takes listeners back their roots. The video is based
This Marathi folk song has been a childhood favourite. I roughly understood the lyrics but the intricacies were lost on me due to the peculiar dialect on Loy’s adaptation of the popular folk song, Dhangarachi Mendhara. The music has been given by Ram Kadam and the song has been mixed by Smitesh Joshi. Loy shares, “This Marathi folk song has been a childhood favourite. Just before I started working on my compositions for Pak Pak Pakaaak, I immersed myself in Marathi songs that were rich in cultural
flavour. Once again Dhangarachi Mendhara stood out so strong that I didn’t need any more research. I did go on to grab the Maharashtra State Awards for Outstanding Music that year. I roughly understood the lyrics but the intricacies were lost on me due to the peculiar dialect. So, I thought, this Maharashtra Day, what better gift for my fellow Maharashtrians.” Loy wanted the song to sound earthy and acoustic. He knew he didn’t want to go the traditional way. While jamming with fellow musicians, the sound of Accapella appealed to everyone. With just a few days in hand, he worked on all the voices himself. “I did layer a tinkering guitar sound in the place of a large metal plate that we see in Nashik Dhol performances. It’s repetitive and really mesmeric, like a super-charged EDM track,” adds Loy. tgs.feedback@goldensparrow.com
When the city danced for a choreographer
Dancer and founder of SIPA, Sahil Sah, organised a DanceO-thon to mark International Dance Day and pay tribute to dance guru, Nihal Khan TGS NEWS Service @TGSWeekly
O
n International World Dance Day, April 29, dancer Sahil Sah organised Dance-O-Thon, a two-hour long dance marathon, at Magarpatta, in memory
of World Dance Champion, Nihal Khan. The 47-year-old choreographer succumbed to a heart attack earlier this year. Dance-O-Thon was open to anyone, who wished to express their love for dance Paying a tribute to his guru Nihal on International World Dance Day was Sahil’s idea. The performer has always actively conducted social events that include dances and performances. “This particular event was a tribute to my guru and first television choreographer Nihal Khan. He wanted to have a dance championship on this day but I did not have enough funds. Instead, I organised a dance-o-thon for every age group,” says Sahil. Sahil met Nihal during a brief performance
on the television show Boogie Woogie. The two were in touch ever since.. “The event had common people move to basic steps that they enjoyed and helped burn calories too. The idea was to celebrate and enjoy dancing,” added Sahil. Choreographers were also felicitated as part of Dance-O-Thon. “For me, it is about art and the form. I believe in appreciating talent and so did my guru. So, I felicitated city choreographers who have made it big. It was also a day that brought dancers and non-dancers together on one platform. My guru believed that anybody can dance.” tgs.feedback@goldensparrow.com

A pen is mightier than a sword…
…And is considerably easier to write with, said the late English comedian Marty Feldman. Sanay Shah clearly caught on to Feldman’s words when he decided to spend time creating beautifully handcrafted fountain pens By Zainab Kantawala @kantawalazainab
A
regular day in the life of a student would include hanging out with friends and, perhaps, studying. But Sanay Shah is an exception. Besides pursuing his education, Sanay is also the owner of a luxury business. A college student may not be expected to run a fancy enterprise but the owner of The Penman Company has never believed in fitting in. Currently studying mechanical engineering at College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), the 18-year-old’s fondness for pens began when he was still a child. Sanay has been using fountain pens since he was nine and he now makes them for anyone who wants a piece of, well, opulence. “As a kid, I always saw my grandfather write with fountain pens. I’ve always been fascinated by antique pieces and, generally, the old fashioned way of living. That is how my keenness for
fountain pens developed. They mean something and they ought not to be used and thrown away like ball pens,” says Sanay. From using fountain pens to write better, Sanay now produces them from nib to design, beautifying the product itself. “I make fountain pens by hand. I use rosewood, teakwood, ebonite and acrylic material for the pens and I use three things to make my pens - a lathe, a drilling machine and my hands,” says Sanay. The youngster is truly a fountain pen buff. He travelled to Andhra Pradesh, the heart of the fountain pen industry in the country, all for the love of learning the craft and enhancing his knowledge about creating pens. Each pen, manufactured by The Penman Company, is handcrafted by Sanay himself. From installing nibs to fixing the barrels, and, finally, designing the exterior of the pens, he does it all. “I start on a piece of wood, and turn it on a lathe machine. Then, after shaping a pen, there are various
stages of polishing. The nibs are imported from Germany. But, these days, I have switched to polishing and grinding of nibs on Indian fountain pens on a jeweller’s dremel. There are many Indian fountain pen makers, like me, hidden in small corners all across the country,” the pen designer explains enthusiastically. Clearly, all the effort that Sanay puts in comes at a rather steep price, `7,000. The pens could even cost more, depending on the design. “Handmade pens cost ` 7,000 and upwards, while Indian pens cost `900 and upwards. A lot of effort goes into making these pens. I’ve designed quite a few and I am pursuing this hobby seriously,” says Sanay.
What makes the The Penman Company’s story even better is the fact that Sanay has literally built it from scratch, without asking his elders to chip on the initial funding. “I taught IGCSE and A Level students privately and raised money for my project. I’ve not taken a single penny from my parents,” he states, unable to hide a perfectly valid sense of pride. zainab.kantawala@goldensparrow.com To order The Penman Company’s pens call 9930517778, or email sanayshah1996@gmail.com
Stuck in traffic? Learn English
English is a phunny language, Amitabh Bachchan’s character declared in the 80s. Despite the superstar’s claim, British Council has launched an online English language course to help you understand the difference between phunny and funny By Anjali Shetty-Shirsath @shetty_anjali
How often have you almost had the perfect job but missed the opportunity for less than perfect language skills? Have you ever hesitated to make a presentation because you are unsure of your hold on English? To help you along, British Council has tied up with language experts to launch myEnglish, a course that blends classroom and online learning. Pune will host the pilot project. Michael Gordon, who leads British Council’s English Teaching Operations, shares that Pune is the right place to launch the course for its growing student and working population. The comprehensive course will be available at six levels, in a tailor-made, eight week training modules. Gordon further assures participants that even though classes will be held online, the accent and diction will not be an issue for Indian learners. “We have a lot of listening material in different accents. In addition, classes are conducted on a face-to-face basis. A student can immediately cross check for clarifications. The teacher and students meet regularly in an online, virtual classroom, so students log in and join the class from the comfort of
their own homes,” he said. Pune has numerous spoken English classes yet myEnglish stands apart. Sharon Memis, Area Director, West India, British Council, shared, “Blended learning is an innovative way to change the, delivery mechanism of education. We have brought the best in English language teaching and combined their teach-
ing with technology to make it accessible to more students. The course focuses on elements like language skills, communication in the real life contexts, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and self-study skills.” The course will definitely help students who are currently communicate in SMS language and short forms. Anant Madhukar Chakradeo, dean, MIT Institute of Design, says, “We are not here to create Shakespeares. At the same time, we need to learn English because it unites us as a country. It is sad how students with creative minds lag behind only because of the lack of presentation skills. Having said all of this, we need to have teachers join these courses too. Right teachers make good students.” British Council representatives believe the course offers a great opportunity for students as well as working professionals to enhance their communication skills for overall development. According to Sharon Memis, “British Council has always worked towards enabling people to become more confident and perform better, professionally, through the English language. Creating confidence in English is the goal for almost all our students. It means being able to express yourself accurately and fluently, and in the right tone.”
