dreamer and wanderer Sonny Ravan aka Siddharth Banerjee gets easily influenced by people around him. He has struggled for long and seen a lot of failure. None of this has stopped him from dreaming big and aiming high. “Everybody who never gives up and keeps fighting inspires me especially Mr Bachchan himself,” says Sonny. He recently participated in a contest, which he won and got a chance to meet Amitabh Bachchan. “I woke up one morning and saw a competition happening on Oye fm for Amitabh’s biggest fan. I competed for it without knowing that in a few days Amitabh sir would actually meet me and greet me! He actually gave me a tight hug like a father hugs his son and also signed my sketch a caricature i drew for him saying, ‘To Sonny and his Loved ones!’ What can I say I am a kid who has been gifted a candy shop.” He is currently working on a bunch of songs with Hard kaur and Ishq bector and Shree D which includes some album tracks and some big banner films all in the pipe line. “I have released 130 odd songs written and composed

Left ‘Singh Is Bling’ due to constant delay: Kriti Sanon
The actor chose not to do the film because it was clashing with her other projects
TGS News Service @TGSWeekly
Actress Kriti Sanon says she stepped out of Parbhudheva’s directorial “Singh Is Bling” as it was constantly getting delayed and also because its dates were clashing with her other projects. “I’m not doing ‘Singh Is Bling’ now. I think you all must have read. The film was getting delayed for many reasons,” the actress said here on Tuesday at the launch of Spring-Summer collection of the
store Aldo. “Now when the film is starting, its dates are clashing with my other projects, so I chose not to do it. I was preparing a lot for the film. Akshay Kumar and Prabhudheva are a team that you always want to be a part of,” she said, but added that she does not regret her decision to step out from the film. “It is a mutual decision. Producer (of ‘Singh Is Bling’) Ashvini Yardi and I tried a lot to work out the dates, but nothing worked. Then we mutually decided that I
step out of the film,” she said. Amy Jackson has been roped in opposite Akshay in the film. Kriti feels “Amy suits the role perfectly”. “Now Amy Jackson is doing the film. Since I know the script, I can say she suits the role perfectly and I wish her all the best.” However, she refused to divulge any details and said: “I’m really sorry as I won’t be able to comment on that film right now. Wait for some more time, you will hear everything about the film...I will talk about the film when the time is right.”

Having said that, in our industry we are exposed to so many people that reading them comes in naturally.” Sushant has carved a niche for himself as a singer par excellence. “You can be a performer and not be an artist, but I am an artist. This isn’t just a dream of mine, this is a goal that I am determined to achieve and I won’t give up.” It is Sushant’s hope that his music will provide a new means for him to give back to his community. “I would like to give back to society for teaching me all that I know,” he says.

All Rounder: Fill a tall glass with ice and pour 30ml Vodka and 90 ml orange juice. Stir the drink well and garnish with a slice of orange for a tangy all-round orange experience. Captain’s Cooler: Fill a tall glass with ice and pour 30ml Green Apple vodka and 90ml Sprite. Squeeze three wedges of lime and stir well. A sugar-heavy diet can have a dramatic impact on our health and well-being
T
o help reduce your sugar intake, Sally Norton, weight loss consultant at Spire The Glen Hospital Bristol and founder of Vavista.com, offers a list of lower sugar food swaps: •
Fresh fruit instead of fruit juice: Fruit juice is very high on sugar and provides little nutritional value. A fresh apple contains around 2.6 teaspoons of sugar and around 50 calories whereas a 250 ml glass of apple juice contains around 6 teaspoons of sugar and 123 calories. The whole fruit contains fibre too which fills you up and is good for you in many other ways.
•
Homemade soup instead of tinned: A can of soup bought from a shop contains the equivalent of four teaspoons of sugar and 171 calories, whereas if you make it yourself using fresh vegetables it will be far lower in sugar and higher in nutrients. You can also avoid adding much salt which is a leading cause of heart disease.
•
Fruit flavoured yogurt for plain yoghurt and berries: Fruit yogurt can contain a large amount of sugar so it's important that you read the Nutrition Facts panel. Don't be fooled into thinking that low-fat varieties are healthy either as they are often higher in sugar. You are best off with
plain yoghurt and some lower sugar fruit such as raspberries and blueberries. •
Swap a hot chocolate for a cup of tea: A hot chocolate contains around 4.5 teaspoons of sugar and 200 calories even before you add cream and marshmallows, whereas a cup of tea contains very little
sugar and around 20 calories if you drink it with milk. •
Swap an ice cream for a frozen banana: One scoop of ice cream contains around three teaspoons of sugar and around 180 calories, whereas a banana contains fewer calories and the sugar is bound up with fi-
bre and nutrients. •
Choose cherries over chocolate: If you fancy something sweet, try swapping a milk chocolate (260 calories and six teaspoons of sugar) for a bowl of cherries which contains just 50 calories and two teaspoons of sugar. IANS

Hit box office action movie-maker Sanjay Gupta has a big yen for cars, motorcycles and food
“
MY FIRST BIKE WAS A HERO HONDA CD100. I had a dark windshield on it and rode around with Take My Breath Away playing as my mental background score,” says Sanjay Gupta of his first two wheels. Auteur, biker and KharBandra boy, Sanjay Gupta fit us into a busy day between meetings to talk motorcycles, films, touchstones and whole-wheat bread. Sanjay Gupta, apart from being a well-known director of action movies and thrillers, is also often in the news either gifting motorcycles, or receiving them from famous friends. Gupta has been a motorcyclist long before it was fashionable. He’s owned and given up more motorcycles than he can count, been there, done that and bought the XXL T-shirt. Having started as director when he was just 22 years old, his interest in motorcycling and his film career have overlapped continuously. There was the famous Kawasaki dirt bike his friend, producer and actor Atul Agnihotri rode in Aatish. His personal Honda Valkyrie made an appearance in Musafir. Sunil Shetty is a

B-King and the Rocket III,” he explains. All these are bonafide exotics, and Sanjay rode them years ago. These days, things are a lot tamer with his Triumph Thunderbird LT and Yamaha
VMax, a gift from friend and actor John Abraham. “I’m not a speed freak,” says Sanjay, justifying his primary ride to some degree. Needless to say, these days he’s all about safety and never sets off on a long ride without a full complement of kit. “Have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich made with a special bread,” Sanjay insists. We’ve driven down from Pune, so he’s concerned that we’re running on fumes. “Where do you think the f**king weight comes from? I swim, I play tennis, I f**king go to the gym... b****hod...” he adds. “In a ten-hour ride, you’ll get maybe six hours of highway and four in f**king city traffic, so a cruiser is more manageable,” he explains about his preference for cruisers. Even when he’s abroad, thanks to his HOG card, he’s off to the local Harley dealer to rent a bike whenever time permits. The sandwiches are delicious, with a kind of toast-like texture without the sawdust flavour of regular whole-wheat bread. “I really miss my Honda Rune, that was my dream bike. It was like losing a girlfriend. Boss... ghum hai!” he says of the one that got away. It had 80km on the odo when he sold it and he hasn’t managed to find one since. Another actor friend owns one, but doesn’t keep it well, much to Sanjay’s ire. “I’m a bawa like that,” he says, justifying his disappointment. When he started making some money, he bought a Mitsubishi Lancer SFX in a bright red colour and washed it painstakingly every Sunday. Sanjay appreciates the way Triumph has been reaching out to a wide audience through social media. “For the longest time, I’ve had my eye on the Bonneville. In fact, I saw one on the road and literally chased the guy down to ask him about it,” he says. “It’s nice, it’s value for money.” His personal cars include an Audi Q7 and a previous-generation MercedesBenz S-Class, while there’s an E-Class and a Toyota Innova for the family. The Q7 is the quintessential Bollywood ride. Sanjay calls it the Bollywood, er... companion? Escort? His previous rides include the Porsche Cayenne and a BMW X5. The Porsche, he offers, was his worst ownership experience, thanks to a certain importer of notoriety. It’s a far cry from the pre-owned imported Honda Accord (with sunroof) or the Maruti Esteem he drove around in the lean years. “WTF?” I exclaim when he tells me that the Innova is four years old. It’s minty fresh and makes my four-year-old Polo look like a beater. It had been four hours since we first started talking to him and apart from the renewed stream of people with demands on his time, there was nothing to indicate that he wouldn’t go four more. “Must do this again!” said the SMS to Abhay later that night. Definitely, Sanjay. I’ll make sure I wash my car beforehand. tushar@evo.in

o matter how much you cringe or poke fun at Karan Johar for his larger than life family drama fi lms, the point remains that in our society we still have families that stay, eat, enjoy and celebrate together every smallest and biggest happiness or sorrow. They literally go by the phrase, ‘A family that prays together stays together’. Anchor and public relations manager Nitish Kamdar’s most memorable moment has been his recent wedding when his entire family was down to enjoy his best day. It was a big, fat wedding, where his relatives went all out and enjoyed themselves. Nitish, 25, lives in a joint family and could not have thought of a better way to celebrate the most important day of his life. Like Nitish, TGS Life caught up with other families that have been living under one roof and sharing space, food and time with each other. Most importantly, these families are like those straight from a Karan Johar fi lm. They stay, eat, enjoy and celebrate together.
Making room for all: Nowrosjee Wadia CollNitish stays with ten people including his wife. He recollects sitting with his sister at the dinner table every evening since childhood. But staying with more members is always fun as we believe in more the merrier. We will have to move into a bigger space soon,” says Nitish. The binding factor is love for good times, cracking jokes, teasing each other at the dinner table or while watching TV. “It’s always good to have all generations together with different set of experiences to share and the best part about my family is that the conversations are such one will feel like it’s a bunch of college kids chilling together.” The Kamdars actually fit in as a bunch of college

A one of a kind expedition: Pune to Kanyakumari on a cycle
features
Seven enthusiastic cyclists from the city traveled 1,565km across four states to reach Kanyakumari after a tiring but gratifying journey. Ashish Phadnis shares his first hand experience with TGS It was a fine day in December, last year, when we decided to convert our passion for cycling into a mission. The task was to ride from Pune to Kanyakumari, the southernmost part of India, covering a distance of approximately 1,565km. After several hours of discussions, meetings and practice rides, we finally kicked off on February 21 and covered four states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in a span of 13 days. It wasn’t a joy ride at the start, as we took off without backup vehicles and carried all our cycling accessories in our panniers (bags). We got out of our comfort zones and pushed our physical and mental limits further. Though, the skin burns, saddle sores, mind-blowing head winds, exhausting climbs and extremely hot weather were the unavoidable parts of the ride, it was a wonderful experience, riding through picturesque backwaters of Kerala, alongside the beautiful white sandy beaches and dense muddy forests of Karnataka. Team building Our group had a fine blend of young and experienced cyclers, and Upendra Shevde, 54, was our senior most and experienced rider and so we followed him. This expedition was an emotional experience for me. Since my father too was part of one such expedition from Kolhapur to Kanyakumari during his college days, now after 44 years, I feel like I followed his footsteps. Of course, a lot of things have changed over the years. He rode on a single-speed old fashioned cycle, whereas I was equipped with a multi-gear lightweight cycle. The road conditions, maps, food and stay, everything was different, but the passion for cycling and the urge to accept new challenges had not changed at all. Soon, we were joined by Upendra’s son Vedang, Anand Ghatpande and his son Surhud, Nandu Apte, Umesh Pawar, Adwait Joshi and
then we came across our saviour, a cycle vendor who agreed to help us through our situation and put us back on schedule. The third day was our toughest one, as we had to cycle about 145km and cross two ghat regions between Tawandi and Vantamuri. But, the real task for us was to deal with strong headwinds. Our solution to this problem was something cyclists call the drafting technique. This is a trick where in cyclists go in a single line to block the rush of winds for the other riders behind them, and take turns being at the front. It is commonly used in team racing events like the Tour De France, and it came in handy for us too.
The seven-member team that cycled from Pune to Kanyakumari Omkar Brahme.
we left home in the wee hours of the day and headed towards our first destination – Karad. Preparations It was a herculean task to cover 165km on the Like the old saying goes, the more you very first day of our tour and especially since it sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war, includes plenty of long stretches of ghats. we started our preparations. We awaited for the next day with D Day more enthusiam and excitment to accept newer Finally on the the day of our expedition, challenges. hiccups on the highway Our plan was to cover the National Highway stretch as quickly as possible, to save us some time to enjoy the coastal areas ahead. Naturally, the starters were heavier than the main course. On the second day, we had just 110km till Nippani, and we were expecting an early finish. But one of our members, had trouble with his cycle and it was beyond our repairing skills, so we had to re route our plan and rode to Kolhapur in search of a spare tyre. On our arival at Kolhapur, we were told that most of the city was non functioning due to a protest against the murder of Communist Party leader Govind Pansare. Our clueless bunch of riders were stranded with no where to go. Just about
Heading for the coast The ride started getting interesting when we exited the National Highway and took the Dharwad – Ankola route. This picturesque road encircles Dandeli reserve forest and is dotted with flora and fauna. Riding through the dense forest areas and climbing down a 25km ghat section after Yellapur was something to cherish about after all the hard work we did over the last few days. Now that we had covered 553km in the first four days, we took time to complete the remaining distance, and rode slow enjoying the sights. With less distance to cover in a day, we got time to enjoy the local cuisines like ba-
nana buns, appam, rassam-rice and our most favourite idli-dossai. We even got to visit some of the most famous temples of the area like the Murudeshwar and Sri Krishna temple in Udupi. Since, the weather was getting hotter and humid, we kept rehydrating ourselves. Final destination On the last day of the journey, we had mixed feelings. Our dream had come true. The efforts we took, the plans we made, the pains we experienced, had finally paid off. In a few days, we would be back in our cosy homes, enjoying the company of family members. But at the same time, we would be missing these beautiful days that changed our lives forever. ashish.phadnis@goldensparrow.com
