immy Shergill is thrilled about the response he has been getting for his role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The sequel, directed by Anand L Rai, hit screens five years after the sleeper hit Tanu Weds Manu (TWM) and it is Jimmy’s first Rs 100 crore film. In Pune to spend time with friends, Jimmy took some time off to share his excitement about being part of the exclusive club. The actor was in the city just around the time the rain clouds cooled the city down a bit. Pune is where Jimmy has shot for his films Haasil and Agnipankh among others. He adores the city that holds a special place in his heart. He often drives down to Pune to unwind and relax, “I have friends here. Plus, my family enjoys being here on weekends. The weather here is pleasant and soothing.” Jimmy is currently enjoying the success of TWM Returns and considers the film very special in his career. “There is no better feeling than your film doing well and your role being appreciated at the same time. As an actor I believe in doing my best and moving on. I don’t sulk over a flop or overreact when my film is a hit,” smiles Jimmy. The actor believes audiences should encourage and watch films that are different. “It is only when the audience supports a film that is different that it does well. I am not saying this only for my films. But everyone should go out and watch a film that they think has an edge or portrays something unique. Sometimes you are exposed to a whole new world set up by the writer and director,” says Jimmy. Sharing his experience on the sets of TMW Returns he says, “It was a fun ride and amazing to revisit a character after five years. Raja was completely what Anand perceived. I love it when the director guides me. A film is a world built by a writer and director that the audience falls in love with. The director and writer together make the backbone of a good film. I am completely a director’s actor. It is challenging and brings out the best in me.” The actor, who made his debut nearly 20 years ago in Gulzar’s Maachis, is not influenced by big banners. He has his own reasons for accepting a script, which includes character sketch and, of course, friendship. “I did a scene in the film Bang Bang, because the director, Siddharth Anand, is a dear friend. Sometimes it is for a cause and sometimes just to support good work. At the end of the day, I need to enjoy what I am doing.” Jimmy is currently awaiting the release of his Punjabi romantic-thriller, Hero. “It is based on a true story and shot in Canada. It is a first for Punjabi films. It is the right time for Punjabi cinema to change and I hope Hero sets a trend. It is ahead of its times but I am sure people will enjoy it,” says the anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com optimistic actor.

When spunk meets entertainment With their Salsa act, Prerna Nepali and Apurva Jadhav are making waves on a reality TV show TGS NEWS SERVICE @TGSWeekly

hey got Malaika Arora Khan and Kiran Kher shake a leg in the first round. In the semi finals, Varun Dhavan and Remo D’Souza couldn’t stop themselves from dancing on their tunes. The girls, from Pune, are being called the spunkiest participants on India’s Got Talent. Prerna Nepali and Apurva Jadhav are now dancing their way to fame, glamour and recognition. This is among the first time the girls are performing a same gender Salsa act on television. Prerna’s friend suggested that she participate in India’s Got Talent and that’s when she started to think about a new concept for the show. Same gender Salsa dancing stood out but being a new concept there was a good chance that the idea would either be a super hit or a flop. Prerna and Apurva are glad their idea was publicly accepted. An MBA student, who is passionate about dancing, Prerna recollects dancing in a corner when she was growing up. “I was a non-dancer as a kid and was a sheer example of having two left feet. I am a gogetter so I pushed myself to join a local dance institute where I took up Salsa, that’s where my journey in the world of dancing began and I am still exploring. I’ve learnt so many dance forms but I am most comfortable with Salsa, Waacking, Belly dancing, Bollywood, Hip-hop, Cha-Cha, Bachata,” smiles Prerna. Apurva holds a Bachelor in Computer Science degree and quit a high salaried job for the love of dancing. She says, “I am a trained Kathak dancer and I have got the

opportunity to work with various dance schools. I am very inquisitive by nature and I am fond of learn new dance styles. My strength has been flexibility, stage presence and styling. I am a professional dance and fitness trainer and I’ve been competing in different competitions throughout the country. I believe my love for dancing has made me a different individual all together and now there is no looking back.” The two performers are certain that there is no end to learning. Apurva and Prerna hope to change the perception that Zumba, a form of fitness, is a dance form. They also hope to create more awareness about different dance forms that people can look forward to and help the city create a name in the dancing fraternity. At the moment, they are focusing on spreading Waacking, which is not so popular in Pune. The journey on the reality TV show has not been easy. There were a lot of ups and downs, but they made sure they didn’t stop. Prerna adds, “The routine that we choreographed demanded a lot of lift and tricks for which we had to work on building stamina and strength. So, we focused on increasing our fitness levels. Secondly, since practice took a lot of time, we had to compromise on conducting classes, which meant not earning for four months and we were more like a liability on our families. We were aware about this but we are so passionate that we will do justice to this huge opportunity that has come our way.” Then of course there was pressure from their relatively conservative families. Apurva and Prerna did not find much support for their idea of same gender Salsa. “After the performance was aired for the first time on TV, the response was positive. Our families, friends , well wishers now have the faith and trust in us and we often get great compliments. We take pride in saying that, regardless of the cultural barriers, we were successful in winning hearts universally,” smiles Apurva. feedback.tgs@goldensparrow.com

s children, our elders constantly told us about the benefits of eating vegetables and fruits of all colours. Last month, we witnessed the launch of the black burger and the devilish dish made waves for its look. It also gave junk food bingers an

excuse to eat ‘coloured’ food. TGS Life got city chefs to share other dishes that are not only quirky to look at but are appetising too. Chef Milind Sovani, of April Rain, picked Rainbow Idlis and Black Sesame Naan Pit Pockets to exemplify the trend. “Different flavours, like tomato, orange, mint and blue curaceo, bring out the colour in the dish. Eating a colourful dish denotes that you are eating healthy. It will help keep you fit and healthy,” says Sovani. Coloured foods also carry an intrigue value. A salad is the best example of coloured foods but Chef Rajpal, Bottlerock - Restaurant & Lounge, shares, “When

you mix coloured ingredients in a dish you are automatically bringing up its health value. I add spinach to pancakes. It gives a royal green look and adds to the taste as well.” Rajpal mixes a dash of cocoa powder/chocolate sauce or saffron to make an otherwise drab looking pasta exciting. He says, “When you serve a dish with a variation it always appeals to guests and when it is a different colour you are sure to receive a compliment. You just have to ensure never to go overboard with the quantity of ingredients. You must experiment but don’t blindly combine colours.” anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

Of course, the grand qualities of Photoshop only help boost the confidence of the person standing before the lens and that is why more and more people are stepping into a photo studio in a bid to assert themselves. Unlike earlier, photo shoots aren’t restricted to the din surrounding weddings and baby showers. They, in fact, are spreading their reach and including people in all kinds of moods. media. While, ideally, one would like to believe that every woman is perfect as she is, we do live in a society that draws outrageous criteria for fitting in. MBA student Shruti Shetty, who is currently looking for a job, realised that a good degree wasn’t enough to land a job Photographer Rajesh Kumar in today’s time. She decided to opt for a makeover and pose for an elegant photo shoot. Shruti wanted to use the picture in her resume and social media profi les, she says, “Glamour comes from within but it takes a good eye to notice and nurture it. I experienced that companies require a confident candidates. The photo shoot boosted my confidence and made me look at myself in a different way. It upped my self esteem and now I am more relaxed during interviews.” Fashion photographer Rajesh Kumar, who conducted the shoot for Shruti finds more and more people stepping off the curb and into his store over the past few months. He says, “Stunning photo shoots are definitely picking up among ordinary women. It is not only about looking good but also about gaining a certain sense of acceptability. They want to show the world that if they want they can make a difference. It is a Cindrella-like tale. That does not mean these women are ugly. These women are housewives, students or professionals, who just want to turn a new leaf.” Sheetal Petkar, founder and photographer at Sheetal Petkar Photography, has been shooting some of these profi les. She shares, “For me, the model does not need to be taller, slimmer, fairer, darker or look like someone

else to look beautiful. Women don’t need to be given power, we just need to realise and accept our own strength that already exists within us. Th rough my pictures, I bring out a person’s confident side.” Most people stepping into a modern photo studio Photographer Sheetal Petkar are looking to gift themselves a new self. Manpreet Natu, a student who recently turned 21, decided to pose for an image she would cherish for a long time. “Photographs are memories you can never take away. I was always sceptical about uploading my pictures on social networking sites. So, I met Rajesh and he suggested a few changes. I fi rst got a haircut then I picked up basic make-up techniques from a friend. It took two days and several costumes to get the perfect picture. When I started out, I just wanted a beautiful picture but, in the process, I learned so much more. I was looking at myself in a different way. After the shoot, I was a lot more comfortable with my body as well. In addition, Rajesh introduced me to poses that weren’t staccato,” smiles Manpreet. IT professional Hemangi Pawar weighed 97 kg until a while ago. She took on a challenge, lost 38 kg, and, to mark her success, posed for a series of pictures. “You can imagine the level of my confidence when I weighed 97 kg. After I lost so much weight, I realised I needed to celebrate. I got in touch with Sheetal and we worked around a theme. It may sound like a cliché but it was truly fun. I had only seen these shoots on television. Being in a shoot

was exciting. Moreover, the outcome was brilliant,” says Hemangi, unable to hide a smile. Dr Nivedita I realised Page had other reasons when looking good is she walked into the photo not always about studio. The medical professional recalls, “A friend’s clothes, make-up and mom had made a dress brands. It is to do with that had a shoulder flower what you feel about piece. I decided to pose in it. It is all in a

NAME!

Shakespeare quite offhandedly dismissed the entire hullabaloo surrounding a name but a rose wouldn’t really seem very romantic if it was called a daffodil. While flowers might not care to fret over their names but people surely do. Meet some goodhumoured souls who have learned to live with the entertaining quotient of their names

Antarik Anwesan “No, pronounce it like this Aan-ta-rik An-way-shun,” this is how Antarik replies to almost each and every person who hears his name for the first time. Clearly, Antarik is very particular about the pronunciation of his name. He has had some funny moments thanks to his name too. “I have some weird anecdotes relating to my name. The first one is from the time I was in Class 6 when Aantrik became ‘Tantrik’. I never did mind then, nor do I now, when somebody in class mentions the term. Gradually, the ‘a’ in the middle of Antarik seemed to have vanished forever. Antarik has became Antrik,” he says.

Shahrukh Khan What do you do when you share a name with a Bollywood superstar? Just grin and bear with it? How about the fact that this Shahrukh Khan is a girl? “Shahrukh means a royal face. A number of people have asked me why I have a male name, but the fact is Shahrukh is a unisex name! Shahrukh became a well known personality when I was in the 10th standard, so people did not tease me in school. In college too I was never teased, as I am not the one who would allow it. I have a very strong personality, so I think people thought twice before approaching me,” she says. These days, however, Shahrukh prefers to introduce herself by her pet name and has taken on her husband’s surname. If only to prevent the brow raising. Shahi Farooqui, nee Shahrukh Khan, explains, “I didn’t change my name. My pet name was Shahi so I asked people to call me that.”

our name is everything. It’s your identity and it is tough to live with a name that elicits a smirk every time it’s uttered. Names, even surnames, have evolved over centuries but there are some of us stuck with

‘funny’ names. It is tough to live with an odd name but, trust us, you’re not the only one. You can’t blame your parents either, after all, they thought of unique names because they love you. We caught up with some people who have spent a lifetime trying to deal with a peculiar name to hear their side of the story.

Shweta Ramsay You hear Shweta’s full name and the fi rst thing that comes to your mind is a scene from a Ramsay brothers’ movie. While it might seem like a fun name to some, it is outright embarrassing and annoying to Shweta. “Be it classmates, teachers, neighbours, friends, their parents and grandparents or even someone at the immigration desk at the airport, I can safely say that out of all the people I have interacted with in my entire life, over 60 per cent of them have always tried to start a conversation with me by asking me if I was related to the Ramsay brothers,” she says. It’s even more frustrating for Shweta when people expect her to acknowledge their amazing sense of humour. “People also ask me if I ‘scare the hell out of everybody?’, ‘Ooo Ramsay! I am so scared’ or even ‘your boyfriend must be scared of you?!’ Most of my friends in school would call me Ramsay and yell, ‘oye, horror show’ or ‘Ramsay aaram se’,” says the irritated young girl. She does have a sense of humour about the entire ruckus though, “Lately, people ask me if Aaron Ramsay or Gordon Ramsey are related to me. That is quite refreshing,” Shweta quips. When asked if she ever thought about changing her name, Shweta says, “I still love my name and would never change it. I think almost everyone who has ever interacted with me remembers my name and I think that’s brilliant,” she states.

Bhushavli is one of the raags of Carnatic music. Only two compositions have been created in this raag. But people still fail to get a name like this right. “I wasn’t teased much but deliberate mispronunciation always annoyed me. No one ever got my name at the first go. Everyone always asks me to repeat my name when I introduce myself. Some call me Valli, which is a common name in South India but not even remotely connected to my name. That drives me crazy! I’ve also been mistaken to be a guy. Usually, I politely correct people if it’s a genuine mistake. But if anyone starts teasing me I act deaf and ignore them. Eventually, they realise that I’m getting irritated and leave me alone,” she says.

Iffat Arkan

Arwa Kaka

Some Indian parents always want their kids to be incredibly different from others, so they try to give the kids unique names. But, choosing a name is always tough. “I have been teased a lot, all my life, because I have a quirky name, Iffat, which is close to Aafat. Even if I shorten my name to Iffie it sounds quite similar. Not just my pals or folks, but even my colleagues and my bosses love to make fun of my name,” she says.

Arwa has quite a story to tell, “Since kindergarten, I have had to deal with the fact that I have a weird last name. Everyone in school, college, university, even work called me by my last name, including the teachers. For that matter, even some one of my closest friends call me by my last name. I would find it really weird and would be embarrassed when somebody called me Kaka, especially in school. It was most difficult while studying in an international university because in Spanish or Latin it means shit. In fact, one of my professors did convey that to me, and I was shocked. But, over the years, I have come to like it and if anyone makes fun of it now I just tell them that my surname is same as the famous footballer Kaka.”

Features

Avantika Chitlangia “Our surname being Chitlangia, we have gotten used to it being misspelled, mispronounced, and made fun of. When my father was in school, his teacher asked him to stand up saying, ‘Please stand up Mr Cheat-langia. He instantly replied, ‘Yes, cheater, Oops, I mean teacher,’ and the kids in the class kept giggling” shares Avantika. She has, however, been through worse. “I have been called stuff like ‘Shit-langia’, which would aggravate me a lot. Some even call me ‘Chitalia’, ‘Chitalagiya’, and often given up using the last name too,” she says.

Kritika Pushkarna Many, like Kritika, learn to live with a name that is open to be twisted as per convenience. “Since my childhood, my friends would make fun of my surname, pronouncing it as ‘Push Kar Na’, ‘PuchKaarna’ and ‘Puchkas’. When I was a kid, I really used to get irritated, cry and complain to my father. He would make me understand that the name is a symbol of the family legacy that you carry. With time, I continued to get bullied, but I was mature enough to understand that it was all on good spirit so, eventually, I accepted it,” says Kritika.

Ritu Jhajharia Sometimes, your surname is so embarrassing that you don’t even others to know it and you feel embarrassed every time your friends pick on your full name. That’s what Ritu has been suffering from her entire life. “Every time I have to tell my full name, I immediately have to endure a rendition of the tacky Bollywood song from the 90s, ‘Jhanjhariya uski jhanak gayi’. This has happened to me without an exception so far. After that, I also have to endure wrong pronunciation of my name with variations like Jhanjhari, Jhjhaariya and Jhad Jhad. It’s most irritating when my name is being announced publicly,” she adds.

Swapnil Midha

It is tough to live in this big, bad world as a girl and even more so when you have a guy’s name. Swapnil though is among the few who have learned to take the awkward introductory conversations in their stride. “It’s interesting growing up with an unusual name. I doubt there is another Swapnil Midha in the world. Of course I was bullied and teased in school. I remember being called ‘Soupstick’ and ‘Soupnil’. My first conversations with people are always interesting. They always expect me to be a boy and most fail miserably in trying to hide their surprise. For many years, it would irritate me because despite seeing that I am a girl, people would say, “But Swapnil is a boy’s name”. Like I could’ve do anything about it,” says Swapnil, trying hard to hide her frustration.

Upama Bomzon With some people you have no option but to simply sympathise. Upama Bomzon has faced funny glances from people every time someone calls out her name. “I am Upama Bomzon, aka Bomb Zone. The sarcastic pet name Bomb Zone was invented when I was in standard 10. I had a gang of around 15 friends and we had a rule according to which we addressed each other by funny names and that’s how my name became Bomb Zone,” she says. Upama is now used to the name and doesn’t mind it anymore. “I have such a surname that I can’t really help it. I am now used to taking in people’s awkward reactions,” she adds.

FAMILY VALUE The 2015 Audi Q3 updates it’s face and grille in line with the rest of the family, and adds a few features to boot By Tushar Burman @tburman

H

aving been in the Indian market since 2012, the Audi Q3 is practically the veteran in the small luxury SUV space. Their success has prompted other players to try their hands in the market, notably the BMW X1 and now, the Mercedes GLA. It’s a fair lead to have but the Q3 had started looking a bit long in the tooth, especially when compared to the sporty GLA. Audi have mended this situation somewhat with the facelifted 2015 Q3 that comes with some visual tweaks and a shuffle of standard equipment. This still looks like the Q3 everybody knows (and loves?), so it’s not all-new for 2015. There are obvious changes to the front grille and the new Audi family ‘face’ is apparent. The de rigueur LED headlamps make an appearance, and look smashing. Side-on, you’d be hard-pressed to find any differences, save for the new design of the alloy wheels, which subjectively add a little more flair to the stance. At the back, you once again see a familiar shape in the tail lamps, but these now have the trick Audi ‘sweeping’ indicators. When you turn one on, the indicator traces a line progressively from the inward side of the car out, toward the direction of turn. In theory, this should work well, looking funky as well as leaving no ambiguity about the direction of turn. In practice, we found it slightly harder to read in full daylight than a traditional blinker. There was a time when the Q3 would have turned heads, but the Indian market is now awash in all manner of vehicles, with choice like never before. Put the Q3 next to the more rakish GLA and it comes off looking a bit homely. That said, it’s a solid design that’s been touched up just enough to move it toward what will ultimately result in an all-new product. The enthusiast will recognize the familiar Q3 and notice the new front-end treatment, but we suspect most other people will not give the 2015 Q3 a second glance. It’s worth noting that the 2015 Q3 comes only with the workhorse 2.0 litre diesel TDI motor, with no petrol currently on offer. The Euro-spec cars come with a slightly tweaked motor that makes a bit more power for 2015, but here in India, we’re making do with the previous motor. If you’re not one for the new family face, you can also have the previous-gen, manual transmission, front-wheel-drive Q3 S. Despite what you may have heard, it’s still available, will likely be cheaper and is popular enough to be on back-order!

The refreshed cabin (above) has small refinements like the aluminium insert trim pieces. The tail lamp (below) has a trick, sweeping line to indicate a turn

There are small changes on the inside as well. The centre console, while still spartan, is refreshed slightly. There’s aluminium-finish inlay for the dash and the door panels. The armrest/stowage now comes with a little internal shelf with a rubberised coating to hold your phone instead of having it rattle around in the plastic bin. It was marginally smaller than an iPhone 6, so we doubt that it will be much use for a majority of phones. There’s a proprietary Audi media port below this and apparently, a standard USB port too, though we didn’t find it. Curiously, the Bluetooth system in the Q3 seemed to support only a ‘Headset’ profile, not allowing me to play my music through the car’s speakers. The frills are rounded up with a panoramic sunroof that was standard on the two trims we drove. Audi is also offering new colours on the Q3, though sadly, the vibrant blue you’ll see in press shots is not one of them. No market, apparently.

THRILL OF DRIVING The Q3 has always been one of the better handling cars in it’s class, and the new one leaves little on the table. Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system is standard on the 2015 model and works as well as it always has. At elevated speeds around corners, the grip is apparent and body roll is well controlled. The steering is the usual electro-mechanical fare, but weights up nicely at speed. The more hard-core would complain of its lack of feel, but when you violently misbehave with the car in low traction conditions, you appreciate the light, predictable nature of the tiller in enabling you to catch a slide. Just sayin’. The 2-litre 177hp/380Nm TDI motor is flexible as ever and combined with the 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, is a pleasure to drive. The new, standard paddle shifters allow for quick shifts when you feel the need, but if you’re feeling less involved, just keep it in sport. The 35 TDI (Audi’s new, confusing naming scheme for the 2-litre diesel) gets noisy at higher revs, but at a sedate pace with the transmission in ‘D’, the cabin is a quiet place to be. Ride quality is also pretty good and while you’ll still hear the telltale VW group thunks through more vicious potholes, they don’t translate to your vertebrae. There’s a drive select button on the centre console which allows you to switch between ‘Comfort’, ‘Dynamic’ and ‘Auto’ modes if you’d like to tailor your ride. Audi have not released prices for the 2015 Q3 yet. Those are expected to be announced on June 18. Going by the international trend, expect a slight increase in prices. While there is only one engine on offer, there will be some trim levels to choose from. That said, with the enhanced standard equipment, expect a premium price. The value proposition will depend on the price, but Audi’s addition of standard features in the 2015 Q3 does make it more attractive. The price premium they will ask for it will determine whether customers see value. The competition is obvious, with established rivals in the BMW X1 and the Mercedes GLA. The Q3 is a proven performer and a known quantity. That’s both good and bad. A safe buy, but not a particularly brave one. By Audi’s own customer matrix, the Q3 will potentially attract buyers of standard SUVs looking at adding a luxury badge to their garage. You can get more space and bullying capability on the road with a Toyota Fortuner, for less money, but that’s a comparison few are likely to make. The GLA looks better, the X1 is cheaper but the Q3 is a nice handler, sports refreshed looks with quattro to boot. Practical, nice to drive and proven, we have no problem giving the 2015 Audi Q3 4 of 5 possible stars. We wish the exterior changes were more comprehensive, but it’s still a darn fine small SUV. tushar@goldensparrow.com

Girls just wanna have

fun! F

By Manasi Shroff

Being the best dressed at a party is really flattering but it’s not that easy a job when we plan on going party hopping

rom the time we stare at our wardrobes until 8 pm for a party that starts in halfan-hour, to trying at least five outfits and going back to the first one, looking your best is not really a cakewalk. From the perfect makeup to the right pair of shoes, everything simply has to be spot on. Well, how else do you get the tag of being the best dressed? Let’s show you what it takes to look prim and proper till you hop into the third club on a party night. Neelam Virwani , a full time model loves, weekends because that’s when the tall lady’s style stands out. The fashionista says “Going partying takes quite a bit of effort and I admit that I’m the one whose entire wardrobe is spread across the room before I figure what to wear.” Given her profession, Neelam can adapt to any style, “Mostly, I believe that staying comfortable in the discomfort is all you need to accomplish. Obviously party dresses are not as easy to carry off as pyjamas but if you love looking good, you ought to strike a balance between comfort and

fashion.” We couldn’t agree more. Priyanka Sinha, on the other hand, is a luxury retail manager with a top brand, who lives her life on her toes. Certainly, she doesn’t get most weekends off, but when she does, she parties like a boss. Claiming to be a quick dresser, Priyanka manages to pull off a glamorous look in just about 15 minutes. “I sometimes feel f loral, while at other times I’m all about structure. I’m actually a real fan of bling and if anyone would notice, I always have something on me that has a bling element to it,” she confesses. The quick dresser believes that planning an outfit is the way to go. “I don’t actually try stuff on, but go through everything I’ve got in my head while I’m free at work. Once I’ve decided what to wear I don’t think twice and simply go for it.” When it comes to accessorising the look, both the girls agree to keep it minimal. Too much of everything looks confusing and once you hit the second club, the heavy accessories begin to get into your purse.

Where’s the party tonight

2Stroke Band Live A multi-city national tour is every band’s dream. But too often in the Indian Indie music context it remains just that - a fleeting dream. The 2Stroke Tour, as the name indicates, will feature two bands and will be a series. It will span genres and attempt to put together 2 sets of artists that complement each other either in similarity or as an interesting contrast. The tour will have the exciting Chennai trio, Skrat, an alternative rock band playing along with Aswekeepsearching. Skrat has always been a positive, adventurous band and the artists straight away jumped at it when the idea of the Tour was presented to them. Aswekeepsearching has always been eager to expanding their boundaries. When: June 17 Where: Bluefrog, Vimannagar

2Blue - Tribute to the 80’s The show will feature the fire-breathing Shannon Pereira on guitars, Vaibhav Jadhav on bass, Gopal Dutta on drums, and 2Blue on vocals. 2Blue is the original madman of Indian rock. With his highoctane live performances, he has been packing Hard Rock

Cafes across India for years. 2Blue’s vocal prowess and on-stage charisma has won him equal measures of fanfare, awards, and critical acclaim. electing the right pair of shoes for an occasion seems to be a tedious task. To get that perfect look, make sure to mixmatch your shoes, balance colours and accessories. Harish Nekkanti, managing director of VAPH brand, gives his expert opinion on pairing footwear. - For a boardroom meeting, always trust Oxfords. Pair them with ankle-bone denims or trousers and a crisp waistcoat. Pairing black and whites, or denims, with brown is always a classic. - The well constructed, tasseled loafers are your goto for movie dates, shopping

expeditions or just a lazy day at the park. You can pair them with a pleated skirt and a peppy t-shirt for a chic look. Pink, white and grey; turquoise, white and navy blue are colour combinations to swear by. - Your friends are calling you to

join them for drinks and an evening out demands a little something called personal style. Get your groove on with a pair of metallic sandals which will easily graduate from a day to evening look. Wear the sandals with adorable prints, braids and a pendant. - When travelling, always opt for comfy sneakers that are cushioned with insoles. It gives an upbeat look when paired with wh ite-den ims u s p e n d e r-

jumpsuits, shorts and cute skirts. - A well-fitted dress, a long shirt or palazzos with your hair in an up do and a pair of clean-cut ballerinas will never let you down. The golden rule is to pick pastels with printed shoes and the opposite with plain shoes. - For your regular sunset stroll or street shopping, go for floral embellished slippers, and pair them with a sarong. They are also perfect for your next beach trip. - Fringe is in, in footwear too. Wear a fringed slipper with long flowing skirts, straight cotton pants, kaftans, and rompers. Throw in a denim shirt for the classy, boho look. (As told to Zainab Kantawala)

show Hannah Montana premiered in 2006, a 14-year-old Miley revealed something unexpected to her mom, Tish. “I remember telling her I admire women in a different way,” she tells Paper Magazine in a new interview. “And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys.” Miley says she considers Tish and her famous dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, “conservative-ass motherf---ers,” so her announcement was not taken lightly. “And it was so hard for her to understand,” Miley continues. “She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. ollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra says he was nervous to work with action hero Akshay Kumar in their upcoming film ‘Brothers’. In the Dharma Productions film, Sidharth will share screen with Akshay as estranged brothers who face each other in a martial arts tournament. The three-film-old actor said he was nervous to work opposite Akshay, who is known for his action films. “He (Akshay) has been doing kicking and punching for a very long time. Since it was my first film like this, I was very nervous to work with him,” Sidharth told reporters here at the trailer launch of “Brothers”, directed by Karan Malhotra. The ‘Ek Villain’ star said he was obsessed to get the technique and look right. “There was anxiety, nervousness but I have learnt a lot from them (Akshay and Jackie Shroff)... The way they deal with their work,” he said.

When asked he wish to learn from Akshay, Sidharth said, “He (Akshay) cracked jokes in Punjabi. His Punjabi is awesome. I wish to learn that from him.” Talking about his look in the film, Sidharth said, “Karan showed me a photo of a six-feet wrestler who was bald and I had to be like him, though not bald. But I had to be like him look wise. I gained 10 kgs and that was very difficult.” “We had a team from America who helped us. I worked for four months on getting the right physique,” he added.
