ENTERTAINMENT Winner of Miss Universal Peace and Humanity, Ruhi Singh makes her Bollywood debut with Madhur Bhadarkar’s much-awaited Calendar Girls that releases next month
‘I want to be the next Priyanka Chopra’
By Salonee Mistry @Sal0412
T
he movie is about the life of five calendar girls, and how their lives change forever after being short-listed during a model hunt. The story revolves around the girls and their journey to fame and stardom, taking a peak into their past and highlights their ambitious future. Talking about her role, Ruhi says, “I play the character of Mayuri Chauhan, who is a very ambitious and st rong-headed girl from Haryana, and knows exactly what she wants
and how to get it.” On her experience of working with Madhur Bhandarkar, she says, “It was a pleasure and a dream come true. He is one of my favourite directors and having the opportunity to debut in his movie is a big deal for me. So when I was approached for this film, there was no reason for me to not say yes. Not only does Madhur make films that have a meaning but people can relate to them too. He is a very level-headed and calm person on the sets, who always encourages new actors.” The last two years have been extremely lucky and eventful for the 23-year-old actor. Besides bagging the lead role in the movie, Ruhi also won Miss Universal Peace and Humanity pageant which was held in Lebanon last
December. “On one hand, I was thrilled to be representing the country, I also realised that there was hardly any time for me to prepare for Calender Girls. It was a juggling act between practicing for the pageant and shooting for the film. Winning the title in its very first year will always be a feather in my cap that I will always be proud of.” Sharing experiences from her growing up years in Jaipur, Ruhi recalls how she was ambitious and passionate about everything that she did. She would participate in almost every sport activity that her school offered and won several medals. “For some reason, as the years passed by, my inclination towards becoming a model grew stronger. I entered several pageants without thinking much whether I would win or not. My family’s support has always been instrumental throughout my life. I believe that it’s very important to have a strong imagina-
2
tion to excel. If you can’t imagine what you want to be, you can never be it.” Like many budding actors from small town, Ruhi too, is immensely inspired by Priyanka Chopra. “She is the perfect example of everything I want to achieve in the coming years. She is confident, smart, and ambitious and settles for nothing less than the best. And I am literary following in her footsteps - first winning the crown, then a modelling career, a break in the industry and last but not the least, a music album of my own.” Though for a brief while, Ruhi has a sweet connect with Pune. “My best friend has lived in Pune for the longest time and that’s what makes the city special for me too. I have also lived for a while in the city while I was training at The Tiara, in Camp for a pageant. My favourite hangouts during this time were the Oakwood Lounge and Koregoan Park among many others. I have frequented the city often for fashion shows too. The city is full of warm and loving people and the climate is most certainly enchanting.” salonee.mistry@goldensparrow.com

What’s John Mayer got to do with this local band?

The American singersongwriter is among many international artists to influence Vernon, Dean and David, who are known for their brand of blues/rock By Sudheer Gaikwad
T
he name of their band is inspired by John Mayer’s hit song ‘Gravity’, a giveaway that they are also fans of, and inspired by, Mayer’s music. Mayer’s versatile guitar-playing is a major feature of his music as his fans would know. Vernon Besterwitch (guitar), Dean Vaz (bass) and David Mansey (drums), in fact, hark back to the vintage power rock format, exemplified by Jimi Hendrix, Cream and other guitar-fuelled trios of the late 60s and 70s. No surprise then that Gravity’s repertoire also rewinds to the classic rock and blues staple that allows the three musicians to blend their
individual instrumental as well as vocal skills and f lair to cook up a potent, high voltage jolt of music. Needless to say, the band’s music rocks hard. “We play a mix of traditional blues and blues/rock, which creates a binding force, allowing us to express ourselves with total freedom,” shares Vernon. “Besides Mayer, my playing style has been influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan to a huge extent. As chal-
lenging as a trio format is, it also inspires me to bring all the creativity I can to my guitar playing,” Vernon said. Dean believes that Gravity offers him the scope to put to use his experience of having played a variety of genres of music. “I am a big fan of Geddy Lee (of the band Rush) and I admire Paul McCartney’s bass playing right from the Beatles era,” he said. The musician points out that his musical abilities are greatly augmented by his reliable memory. “It
helps immensely if you can remember all the chords and arrangements, which leaves me free to be creative in a live performance,” he says. Among the three musicians, David Mansey is the most experienced with a music career stretching over three decades. “I have played the five-star circuit, which involves jazz, pop and a big variety as well. Playing blues and rock with Gravity is an invitation to improvise, which I love to do on drums,” he says. With songs like ‘Red House
Blues’ (Hendrix), ‘Pride and Joy’ (Stevie Ray Vaughan) and blues anthems like ‘Hootchie Cootchie Man’ on their playlist, the band has been a regular feature in concerts in the city, especially at the blues festivals and jams. Are you ready to be hypnotised? The master mentalist from Germany, Nicolai Friedrich, will cast a spell on the city’s audience this weekend By Heena Grover Menon
@HeenaGM
F
rom bending a spoon by simply staring at it, levitating a table to produce objects out of sketches and going back in time, Nicolai has done it all. This time, as part of a national tour, Ashvin Gidwani Productions (AGP) World, brings the award-winning mentalist to showcase his talent in the city for the first time in a public show.
It was a childhood dream It was at the age of four when Nicolai was introduced to the world of magic and was fascinated with the
art of reading people’s minds. “I saw a magician’s performance in a circus when I was a little boy. I was so thrilled and amazed by the experience that I wanted to become a magician myself. From then on, I invested all my time and money in learning new magic tricks. I did not go to any special magic school but I had a lot of inspiration — one of the earliest being the Jedi in Star Wars. I am also a big fan of surrealistic art of Salvador Dali. I admire the way David Copperfield turns a magic trick into an emotional experience for his audience and I’ve always tried to do the same through my art. I also love the creative and entertaining way in which Darren Brown performs mentalism in his live shows,” he says. Applying tricks at work A certified lawyer by profession, Nicolai says that he has applied his conjuring tricks while dealing with his cases numerous times. Sharing
his real life experiences at work, he says, “I apply a lot of my knowledge in everyday life. However, it all depends on how you control different situations. It is quite tricky to influence a judge or policeman though.” Recalling a particular instance in court, he says, “I was attending a hearing when the judge who was holding both his hands like a cup appeared to look like a human scale. While mentioning the arguments of one party, he subconsciously lowered one of his hands. To me, this was a signal that he considered my arguments to be more convincing. So, it was easy to predict the outcome and, luckily, I won the case.” Connecting with human emotions To connect with people on an emotional level means that you are able to touch them by evoking strong feelings, explains Nicolai. “I can easily accomplish this during my performances. However, if you are also able to create empathy with people it

WATERMELON RIND PARATHA Recipe by Leena Rawke, a banker from Bavdhan Ingredients • 250 gms grated watermelon rind. The rind is the white part of the fruit • tsp cumin seeds • tsp turmeric powder • A pinch of asafoetida • 2 finely chopped chillies • 1 cup multigrain flour • Salt to taste • Oil Method Mix cumin seeds, turmeric powder, asafoetida and chopped chillies with
grated watermelon rind. Add the multigrain flour and knead the mix into a dough. There’s no need to add more water. Use the juice from the watermelon rind itself to knead the dough. Make small golf-ball-sized pieces of the dough and keep them covered in a vessel. Spread a sheet of plastic over the board that you will use to flatten the dough. Spread some of the multigrain flour on the board and pat the dough to flatten it out till a medium-sized circle is formed and, with your finger, mark three holes in the centre of the circle. This is to allow the ingredients to cook properly even in the centre. Spread a tablespoon of oil on a flat, non-stick pan, which has been pre-heated for five minutes. Place the flattened circle on the pan. Make sure that the pan is on a high flame. Flip after two minutes. If the base is cooked, it will turn golden brown. Then flip once or twice to make sure that the paratha has been cooked properly. Serve fresh, right out of the pan, with tomato or hot chilli ketchup. If you want to save them for later,, keep them wrapped in a soft muslin cloth to ensure softness. With the exception of maida, you could use any other flour, if not multigrain flour. Why is it good for you? The watermelon rind contains the nutrient citrulline, which helps increase blood circulation and keeping cancer away

Double the fun
PICS BY ANIRUDDHA RAJANDEKAR
Khisti Brothers
W
hile one of the brothers is extremely naughty and mischievous, the other is equally docile and quiet. This pair of twin has not only tricked their teachers and friends, they haven’t even spared the cops. Staying at Karve Nagar in Kothrud, Varad and Vivek Khisti (21), have a bunch of stories to share about how much fun they have being twins. The one thing that the brothers have had to face throughout school was their teachers venting out on one while the other was responsible for all the mischief. Remembering incidents, when they took advantage of being lookalikes, induces hysterical laughter, Varad says, “Between the two of us only Vivek has a license but I too love driving. Once we were caught by the cops while I was driving. I simply showed Vivek’s license and we got away.” This was not the only time that the brother’s had taken advantage of looking the same to get out of a sticky situation. “It was Varad’s English orals and he had completely forgotten about them. The professor had to in fact call him up to inform him that the orals had begun and that he was late. Varad was far away from college and it was not possible for him to get to college in time. He called me up and asked me to take his place. I went to the college, appaeared for his exam without any hesitation and he obviously passed,” says Vivek. There is absolutely no disadvantage in having a lookalike claim the brothers.
Is having a look alike a boon or bane? It’s a question that’s as close to a two-edged sword as it gets. After all, the many benefits easily offset all the disadvantages. Six twins from the city share the inside story By Salonee Mistry @Sal0412
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito had audiences smiling along when they played unlikely twins in a late 1980s Hollywood fl ick. Closer home Govinda
and Chunky Pandey passed off as twins in the 1993 fi lm Aankhen. But Sridevi playing the perky and naive in Chaalbaaz or Anil Kapoor doing pretty much the same in Kishen Kanhaiya were characters that epitomised the thrills of having a lookalike. Unlike reel life, there may not be treacherous
villains in their lives yet having an identical twin sibling does bring its own perks and challenges. We spoke to six identical twins in the city to fi nd out how they deal with having a mirror image standing right beside them. salonee.mistry@goldensparrow.com
Kar Sisters
T
he sisters love having ‘telepathic conversations’ with each other, constantly. Priyanka and Tanya Kar (20), who hail from Kolkata, are currently living in a rented apartment in Vimannagar. They are third year students of Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune. Th roughout school and college Priyanka and Tanya have always exchanged classes as well as attended classes for each other. “We have the exact same voice along with looking the same. There
was this one time when Tanya was extremely bored to talk to her boyfriend and I spoke to him instead of her. It was fun until it became awkward,” recollects Priyanka. Although both sisters weren’t very close as children their relationship has changed in the last few years. “We did not like each other when we were kids as we were always mistaken for each other and it was really frustrating. But as we grew up we started realizing how much fun it was. Now we love doing everything together,” says Tanya.
Patel Sisters
R
ight from school up until their current internship, Neha and Niddhi Patel (21) have always been together. They went to the same school, the same junior and senior college and now both of them are interning at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Hospital. Studying to graduate with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS), the sisters hail from Surat and are currently staying in Katraj, Pune. They burst into giggles when they recall something that they did to take advantage of looking alike before they begin to narrate the incident. “There was a relay race that Nidhi had participated in when we were in junior college. It was an inter-college competition and an extremely important one. After qualifying for the finals, Nidhi was very tired and knew that she would not win if she ran just then. I quickly wore her clothes and ran in her place,” Neha admits, “We won the race and the trophy as well,” she adds. In fact, their parents have told the sisters numerous stories from their childhood when they too would get confused between the twins. “Once, mom told us that when we were a year old, Neha had fallen sick with malaria. For three consecutive days, instead of giving her the medicines, my mother fed them to me,” says Nidhi. The only disadvantage of looking the same, according to the sisters, is that bunking classes in college becomes difficult. Being twins the professors easily remember them and always question one when the other is away.
Gaikwad Sisters
I
t is not just their friends but even their family members and relatives who get confused when they have to tell Nikita and Neha Gaikwad (12) apart. Studying in Shri Sant Tukaram Vidyala, Lohegaon, in standard seven both sisters have not yet explored the advantages of having a twin. Both of them innocently nod their heads in denial committing that they haven’t ever taken advantage of looking the same. “Our father almost always gets confused between us. He can only tell us apart if both of us are next to each other because Neha is slightly taller than me. Only my mother and grandmother can tell us apart no matter what,” says Nikita. “Once, Nikita had been studying for a really long time as we had an exam the next day. When she finally got up to take a break, I sneaked into her place without anyone noticing”, recalled Neha. It was just at that moment when our mother came in and saw me studying while Nikita was out talking to our neighbour. My mother misunderstood that Nikita had been whiling away time and then she was in a great amount of trouble. She got yelled at and was even hit. After all the yelling was over, I meekly went up to my mother and told her what I had done. Even though she was extremely furious because I did not own up previously, she just laughed, Neha told us.
Bendale Brothers
S
angram and Sourabh Bendale (23), residents of Kothrud, assure us that they have had the most amount of fun as kids compared. They recollect having tricked their friends almost every single day while playing hide and seek. “When we were kids everything about us was the same, even our voices. The only way you could tell us apart were the clothes that we would be wearing on that particular day. While playing if one of us got caught we would almost immediately change our clothes and save ourselves from getting out of the game,” recalls Sangram. Apart from this, sitting in each other’s classes was also a routine. It wasn’t that they were interested in each others’ subjects but Sangram and Sourabh did it just for the thrill. Clearly, the fun memories remain with them still but they did struggle with having a twin. “It’s probably not that big a deal because
we love each other but the only disadvantage of having a twin is that our identity is linked with the other. Until recently, even when we were living in different cities we were always remembered as Sangram and Sourabh, not many people knew us individually,” says Sourabh. Sangram is currently working as a recruitment associate at Oracle in Pune, while Sourabh is working as an assistant team leader with Unipart Logistics, Bangalore.
Kumar Sisters
T
he best thing about having a twin is having each other to rely on, say the Kumar twins. Both Pallavi and Pratibha Kumar (22), residents of Kothrud, have always felt that no matter what the situation was, having each other has been their only solace. “Very often my friends see Pratibha and smile at her thinking that she is me. Not only does she get confused as she doesn’t know them but being a shy person she often does not smile back. My friends later get upset with me for not acknowledging them,” says Pallavi. Even though both of them look just like each other they have never been able to take advantage of it, they say. “We are extremely different people. We talk and express ourselves differently and are completely poles apart. If you talk to one of us, you would immediately know who is who if you have known us for a while. When we try to switch classes we get caught, we have never even been able to trick our friends. We are just probably not that lucky and so always get caught,” says Pratibha. Pallavi is currently a fourth year student at Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts while Pratibha, having completed her graduation in B.Sc. Economics, is preparing for her MBA entrance exams.

THRILL OF DRIVING
Simple SUPERSTAR
Bounce through rough roads with a quirky engine at a premium price By Tushar Burman @tburman
W
hen the Celerio launched last year, it was just another Maruti hatchback, filling ever-tinier spaces between their ever-expanding portfolio. Somewhat larger than their Alto/800 hatches and more expensive, the headline feature was its Automated Manual Transmission, which we will continue to see on more vehicles in the years to come. Even more interesting was the rumour of an all-new Maruti diesel engine in the works for the company’s small hatches, and this is just what we got with the Celerio ZDi (Opt) DDiS 125. The car is visually identical to what we saw last year. A sober, comfortable design with excellent visibility and some of the most rugged suspension we’ve experienced in a cheap car. New, of course is the parallel-twin 800cc diesel engine
which promises an extremely slow dip in the fuel gauge. We tested the topend ZDi (Opt) model, which came surprisingly well-equipped, another difference from the bare-bones AMT model we drove at length earlier. If you’re looking for a bit of flair in your affordable commuter vehicle, it’s best you look elsewhere. The Celerio remains a sober vehicle that isn’t going to turn heads. In fact, for the less attentive, it will pass as the new Alto. This dark brown shade on the test car does look elegant, however. The first thing that strikes you as you enter the Celerio ZDi (Opt) is the amount of equipment. We aren’t accustomed to lighted door sills and wheel wells, Bluetooth and a perfectly decent entertainment system in a car of this class. Bluetooth pairing was a quick affair, though the buttons are placed in that infernal spot below and behind the steering wheel. We’d really like some alone time with the inventor of that interface. Once you get used to them though, the buttons are easy to find thanks to the plastic relief on the call button. This is still a budget aggregate though, evident from the very basic display and awkward menu system to get around

The closest competitor would be the beat diesel, which uses a 3-cylinder Fiat-derived commonrail diesel engine that forces far fewer compromises on the driver, while being only slightly more expensive. At the low end of the range, Maruti still gets to boast of among the cheapest available diesel hatchbacks. Ultimately, the Celerio diesel is a decent vehicle, but at nearly six lac rupees, we suspect buyers will be put off by the compromise of its position in the Maruti lineup and an agricultural-sounding engine. On the upside, the suspension feels very rugged and comfortable, if a little skippy at times, and efficiency is excellent. Our rating reflects the merits of the vehicle alone, and the value proposition it offers would be improved by a more aggressive price. tushar@goldensparrow.com

Rs 10 to educate
Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel laureate who gave us out national anthem and many more literary pieces, deserves a tribute. So, in a unique programme, artist Paresh Maity and Stellar International Art Foundation have decided to showcase art dedicated to Tagore. Paresh’s experimental personality has pushed him to explore mediums like drawings, watercolours, oils, installation and sculptures. The artist’s exclusivity lies in rediscovering the charm and magic of India in his paintings. His series Shesh Lekha, or Last Writings, are 15 poems written by Tagore in the final months of his life. The series also includes 15 large-scale watercolours, 15 accompanying drawings and 15 calligraphy writings of the poems translated into English by Pritish Nandy. Stellar International Art Foundation owns the series and will lend the work to the endeavour. When: 15 August onwards, TIME Where: Hyatt Pune, Kalyani Nagar
While you spend your Independence Day weekend shopping, you can also help empower the socio-economically marginalised. A mere Rs 10 could help change the life of the less fortunate. Amanora Town Centre Mall, Hadapsar, has arranged the activity. Visit the mall today and buy a coloured ribbon; orange, green, white or blue for Rs 10, each. Tie the ribbon over the mesh f lag created at the mall and do your bit. All the money collected shall be donated to the NGO Santulan located in Kharadi. The NGO is planning to use the money to provide education to socioeconomically weak children. “It is not a very big initiative but every bit will count. The activity of tying the ribbon on the mesh might not only attract more people but also provide a small opportunity to engage. Not everyone wants to work in the field and not everyone has a lot of money to give away. This is a way everybody can participate,” says Aditya Painoli, marketing head, Amanora Town Mall Centre. Kalam etched in sand To pay homage to the late president, Narayan Sahu, a noted sand artist from Odisha, has created an image of Dr Kalam using sand and water. Narayan hails from Barahmpur, a town in Odisha. With over 15 years of experience, he has participated in various sand festivals. “I was always inclined towards art. My grandfather was an artist too, I have learned a lot by just observing him. I once attended the sand art festival in my hometown, and was inspired by the artwork on display there. That was when I decided to become an artist,” says the 30-year-old artist.
Among his creations is a sand sculpture based on Wild Life and Global Warming. It was appreciated by the central government and it helped him earn a fellowship. “I have recently made a sculpture based on the poster of The Grand Budapest Hotel movie, I believe it was the most time consuming,” he adds. Kalam’s sand sculpture took him 15 hours to create. “I feel fortunate to pay tribute to a humble person like Kalam through my art. I hope people like and appreciate what I have created,” he adds. ith the ability to house 30-35 dogs at one time, Happy Pups Pet Resort located at Chandni Chowk, near NDA, is the perfect place to leave your dog while you enjoy your vacation. Managed by 23-year-old Abhishek Kulkarni, a resident of Kothrud and an engineering student at IMCC, the retreat spreads across 8,000 square feet and is nothing short of paradise. “Since childhood, we have always had dogs in the family. There was this one time when all of us had to go on a vacation and there was no place for me to leave my three great Danes. That is when I decided a resort had to be built,” says Abhishek.

t was Krutika Gogte’s father who made her the ardent animal lover that she is today. Kedar Gogte (52), Krutika’s father is an avid traveller and always faced the problem of not having a decent place to leave his pet. Residing in the city, their house and the huge area around it in Bhugoan was not being put to much use. Krutika and her father turned the empty house into an animal-friendly retreat, two years ago. Although they initially planned to keep just eight dogs, the response was so good that they were forced to increase the capacity to 11. Quitting her job as a product designer, the 24-year-old decided to work with the retreat full-time and has never once regretted her deci-
sion. “All dogs that come to the inn are almost like family. Since some of them even stay for six months at a stretch they feel like they have been a part of our family for a long time,” says Krutika. Every dog at the retreat is given personal attention. Right from the dog’s hygiene, to food habits and regular routine is taken care off. Dogs, Kruitka believes, are like babies and sometimes even more difficult to handle because they can’t communicate. They need to be given things before they feel the need for them. For Krutika, every single task at the retreat must be carried out with absolute perfection. During season, between, she lives at the retreat and otherwise commutes from her home in the city daily. Get in touch: 8806880861

etting a thriving career in banking and IT go, Shalaka Mundada (36) opened up a retreat for dogs at Maan Village near Hinjewadi around 7.5 years ago. “I was volunteering with a veterinarian and many pet owners were bringing in dogs that had fallen sick over the vacation. The main reason for their sickness was not having a proper place to stay while the pet owners were out enjoying their time out. That is when I knew that I wanted to build a retreat for dogs,” says Sahalaka. She found a place, got her logistics and resources in place and opened up a happy and healthy place for pet owners to leave their dogs. Spread across a four-
Apart from being an animal lover Abhishek also loves to train and breed dogs. Currently, he owns 18-20 dogs that he has bred. At the retreat, the available help is well-trained and manages everything, right from cooking the dog’s meals to walking them. There are also grooming facilities available for dogs. The staff also engages the dogs in activities during play time in the evening so that they remain happy and fit. Abhishek’s biggest challenge is making time. acre property Pet Sitters is equipped to cater to nearly 40 dogs at one time. With abundant open space for the dogs to play around, a schedule is followed for each of the dogs boarding at the retreat. Every dog has his own kennel, hills to play around, and a swimming pool for sunny days. The rooms are also big enough to cater to an individual playing area for every dog. Working with a team of seven people who have been with Shalaka since she set up Pet Sitters, her biggest trouble is not finding trained care-takers. Not everyone has the expertise to take care of the dogs and sometimes just being an animal lover is not enough. Shalaka is hoping to compensate and create more aware animal lovers. n IT professional and an animal lover, Rajesh Chandan (42), started SmaartPetsZ four years ago. The ardent traveller almost indefinitely faced the problem of not having a safe and friendly place to leave his dog while he’s out travelling. This made him want to build an environment where dog owners could leave their pets without anything to worry about. Spread across a huge property at Undri, SmaartPetsZ is now home to many dogs. “We let the dogs out in the open three times a day to socialise. Once we get a sense of which dogs get along with another we then leave them out in groups. This not only keeps the dogs happy but also prevents fights of any kind,” explains Pooja Chandan (42), Rajesh’s wife, who manages
the retreat. The main aim of the retreat, she says, is to ensure that every dog visiting them is happy throughout his or her stay and does not feel home-sick. The biggest challenge faced by Pooja and Rajesh is that of gaining the confidence of the pet owners. Considering that the dogs are like their babies, owners are extremely worried especially the first time they leave their pets at the retreat. In fact, not all of them give complete information about the medical conditions or behaviours of their dogs. So Pooja and her team are forced to observe and learn the traits themselves. “No one else can know their child better that the parent and so it is necessary that we are given all the information,” adds Pooja. NightLife It was all about the moves on a weeknight when the dance floor resembled a South American haunt By Manasi Shroff @ManasiShroff
O
n a relatively dull Tuesday, the folks at F Beach House decided to pep up the crowd for the rest of the week and what better than shaking a leg, or rather much more than that on the beats of the clave. Well, the night couldn’t get steamier with moves that turned the hotness metre high up. Saumya Joshi and Anuraag Kanitkar took over the dance floor and sizzled on it like no one was watching. Well, we like the spirit and what we liked more was that the salsa didn’t stop. “Dance has been in my veins since a long time now, and since the day Anurag and I started getting along, we have been trying to spread the art as

much as we can,” said Saumya from the Latin Verve Dance Company. Anuraag, on the other hand, claims to have been inspired by a salsa night his friends once took him to. “I’ve never looked back ever since,” he said. “For me, salsa is a little more than just a dance form. It’s been over five years now and I hope to keep the dancing on forever.” We couldn’t help but keep watching the couples on the floor, and their style is worth a mention. “The heels do a lot of magic while you salsa, but I prefer staying away from uneasy short dresses,” suggests Saumya. Basically, keeping it comfortable and flowy works well for the ladies and for the men, it’s all about being classy, yet cool. “I’m a semi-casual kind of guy. I like to keep myself comfortable with a pair of jeans and a nice shirt to go with it,” says Anuraag. As the evening progressed, the couples got into the mood and the dance got even more intense. Sneha, Koushal, Anin and Erin joined Saumya and Anuraag and the dance floor was an absolute delight to look at.

A film’s failure does not demotivate me: Lisa Haydon
F
or Lisa Haydon, a movie's success or failure is a redundant discussion and the actress says she seldom gets disappointed when her films don't work at the box office. The 29-year-old actress received plaudits for her performance in 2014 film Queen. But her last film The Shaukeens did not taste similar success. Lisa said she believes in enjoying her work and does not think about what its outcome would be. "I don't expect anything. I am not really that kind of a person. I do my work. I have fun. I don't get disappointed when films don't do well. There is way too much more to life," Lisa told PTI. The actress said since the film industry is so unpredictable, an actor cannot work with the mindset that he or she will only work in projects which will be a hit. "When I meet people who have good energy, I like working with them. The project could be good or a flop. There is no guarantee in this business. But there is nothing like working with good people," she said. The actress will begin shooting Sajid Nadiadwala's upcoming production Housefull

I did Taxi No.9211 with Nana (Patekar), 'Shootout at Wadala' with Anil Kapoor and have a hit song Tu Mera Hero with Mika (singer)," John said. It was reported that he was unhappy with the first trailer of Welcome Back as the focus was more on Anil and Nana, who played lovable goons Uday bhai and Majnu bhai in Welcome. John denied the rumour and said he was happy with the first look of the film.

3 from August 27, followed by Milan Luthria's Baadshaho, which goes on floor from October 10. When asked if she prefers working in bigbudget projects or starring in content-driven film, Lisa said, "Honestly, I don't think about it too much. If I like a project I take it up. If I like the people I am working with, I say yes. I met Sajid at an awards ceremony this year and we got chatting. He is a great human being. Later, he approached me for Housefull 3. That is how it works for me," she added. Besides her film commitments, Lisa is seen multi-tasking these days. She hosts and serves as a mentor on a fashion reality show on the smallscreen. The former model also jazzed up the ramp for designer Tarun Tahiliani's show recently in the capital. "I have always enjoyed juggling. I do things as they come up. I also like to take time off and live my life a little more peacefully. Right now the TV show is on air but the rest of the year will be dedicated to the films," Lisa said.

ll praise for her co-star, Sarah-Jane called Vicky a "special" person. It was amazing working with Vicky. He is a special kind of a person, he is extremely hardworking and very humble and all of that comes on screen." The actress impressed the audience with her 20-minute long per formance during designer Jyotsna Tiwari's show at IBFW. Though she was happy with all the adulation that came her way, Sarah-Jane said by the end of her set she was exhausted. "This is the first time I am doing such a long set. Before this I did one song. It was exhaustive. By the last song, I was like 'I can't do it anymore'." When asked how nerve
wracking is performing live, the actress said, "I do perform on stage on a regular basis and then of course acting and various things. I am always in front of the camera or in front of an audience. I have been doing this for a while but somehow the nerves always kick in but over the years you learn how to control them. "So, like I got on, took a deep breath, I started to sing and then somewhere in the middle I started to calm down but towards the end, I was nervous again and that is usually what happens. You start off, you are kind of nervous and then you get calm in the middle of your dialogue and when it is ending, you get nervous. That's my process."
