e made his debut with an internationally acclaimed Bengali film titled Simanaheen. He immediately made his way on to the entertainment map and soon made his directorial debut with a film titled Kings of Devon which was a project he took up for charity and also starred in the movie. This year, marks Bangladeshi-American actor Rahsaan Islam’s debut in India, with the release of Indo-American film called The Spectacular Jihad of Taz Rahim opposite Indie music queen Monica Dogra. Talking about his character in the film Rahsaan says, “ I play Yo! Yo! Honey Singh wannabe named Taz. We all know someone like that in our lives. Taz is really immature and gets himself into a whole mess of trouble. Soon after the controversial 9/11 attack he becomes a police informer and the story unravels from there.”

The actor sat down with a former NYPD Muslim informant and got to learn about the inside of what he did He will be next seen in an IndoAmerican film to be shot in France called Cyclewala which is being produced by ace producer, Donna Roth responsible for films like 13 going on 30 and America’s Sweethearts. Rahsaan feels honoured to have shared workspace with Monica Dogra. “It was eye-opening. It was motivating. Monica is such a beautiful person, inside and out. Interacting with her made me learn a lot about the industry, the craft, and most importantly, myself,” says the actor who sat down with a former NYPD Muslim informant

and got to learn about the inside of what he did and how he felt about what he was doing. He adds, “The type of things that go on in these type of police programs is truly unbelievable.” He enjoys observing and mimicking people all the time. “Sometimes to poke fun and most other times I try to understand them. I utilise those observations in my acting. It’s an expression of what I see as well as the experiences that I’ve personally had before,” says Rahsaan. He believes for regional films everyone’s story is important. It’s part of the collective human experience. He is a big fan of watching films from all different languages. “The only thing that can really popularise anything is a healthy marketing budget,” adds Rahsaan who is eagerly waiting to star in a full-fledged Bollywood film. “I really love paisa vasool movies especially.” anjali.shetty @goldensparrow.com

Anil shares, “In the last 17 years, across the world, audiences have voted for the same films. It is very clear to us that the audience is king. The history of cinema has shown that the audience makes or breaks a film. The best award a filmmaker can get is the unanimous audience vote.” He adds that the film’s story must be compelling and so should its production value, which is equally important. W

hile the Indian indie music scene includes a burgeoning list of groups, very few care to focus on folk music. Mumbai-based indie band, Indo Gypsies, is doing its tiny bit to change that fact. The folk-cum-fusion band is dedicated to making melodies through their original compositions. The young bunch of musicians seamlessly blends folk music with a myriad of genres ranging from New Age, Western and Indian Classical. The band appeals to a wide range of audiences across the country, captivating everyone with their engrossing music and colourful, vibrant attire. “Our music and attire on stage are firmly rooted in the Indian culture and adds to the ‘Indo’ in the band’s name. As for the ‘Gypsies’, everyone knows that gypsies are eternal travellers, treating the whole world as their home. Similarly, band members have an

Meet the indie kings inclination towards a variety of genres, bringing a World influence into our music. Apart from Nayan, Indo Gypsies comprises of Saurabh Shetye on vocals, Durgesh Khot on keyboards, Amit Mhatre on drums, Vinayak Gawas on Tabla, and Aditya Jain on bass. Two years ago, the band won a contest organised by a television channel. “Every one of us has a wide variety of influences and that is partly

responsible for the World-music-like influence in our music. Further, we are inspired by a desire to raise awareness about the social issues that we see in the world every day and about the philosophies of love, freedom, passion, brotherhood,” Nayan adds. They recorded their first song Zidd Dhariyo, and performed their first gig at Waves SeaRock Festival 2011, which was held in Pune. The band was given the 2011 Responsible Youth Talent by Rotaract Club of Mumbai for their song ‘I’m sending India to school’ for a social cause initiated by Rotaract. “There have been

many memorable moments that we cherish to this day. A few of them are opening for the legendary band Indian Ocean and collaborating with Raghu Dixit. We have also faced a tough time in 2013 when we had to replace three of our members. However, this was just a stepping stone for a better future of the band,” says Nayan. “Learn how to cook the basics”

Celebrity chef and TV host Vicky Ratnani talks about his first meal and why you shouldn’t become a chef just to appear on television By Anjali Shetty-Shirsath @shetty_anjali

C

hef Vicky Ratnani recently travelled all the way to China to receive the Best Vegetarian Book Award, for Vicky Goes Veg, at Gourmand World Cookbooks Award. Although excited about the felicitation, he believes awards should only be looked at as a means of motivation

and encouragement. One should not get carried away on winning an award or feel discouraged when one doesn’t get one. In the city to conduct a Mexican food workshop at Godrej Nature’s Basket, he shares tips and cooking methods of delicacies like Jalapeno pimento stuffed mushroom caps, Quesadillas with queso and refried beans, Tomato corn salsa and Mexican rice. “Mexican cuisine is

all about chillies. I am often asked for substitutes in cuisines to suit Indian palate. If you are using a substitute then it does not remain authentic. These recipes can be best made in any Indian household,” says Vicky. The chef grins as he remembers the time he cooked his first ever meal. He was about nine and a boy scout. “It was a potato vegetable, which turned out salty, undercooked with burnt jeera and garlic. To add to the nightmare, I added sugar in the dal. After this, the dish that I will always be proud of is Lasagna Bolognaise which I made in college. I had freshly rolled the pasta myself. My teachers were motivating and encouraging,” he adds. If not in the kitchen, Vicky loves to spend his time listening to music, reading, travelling and going on long walks. Markets intrigue him and he loves visiting them to get a whiff of local ingredients. “My mother’s biryani and a meal at The French Laundry in Napa Valley are my most memorable meals. When it comes to comfort food, dum biryani and rajma chawal are what I crave for,” says Vicky, who swears by South Indian cuisine. “Everything

from the flavours, to the cooking techniques amaze me. There are so much variety in terms of vegetables and preparations. I absolutely love the food.” He is currently working with Everstone Capital that owns Harry’s Café and Bar across the

globe. “I don’t know about my own restaurant but I would love to get Harry’s to Pune,” says the chef, who warns aspiring chefs, “Learn how to cook the basics and do not take up cooking just to appear on television.” anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

A

nchovies offer a mix of flavour and health benefits. A small amount of anchovies are enough to add flavour to sauces, salads, pastas and pizza. You may not turn a fan of this salty pick immediately since it takes a while for the taste to grow on you. The saltwater forage fish deliver great benefits through fatty acids, protein and other basic nutrients.

JUNE 20, 2015 PUNE

Meeta Makhecha, owner of The Flour Works at Kalyani Nagar, shares, “Anchovies are basically used as taste enhancers in European cuisines. Since they are salty, they’re often used as a replacement for salt. They are commonly used as pizza toppings, dressing for salads like Caesar Salad, and so on.” Classic recipes of Worcestershire and Remoulade Sauce contain anchovies. These small sea water fish are about three inches in size. To season one cup of Caesar

Clockwise Pizza with anchovy toppings; anchovy dip and Meeta Makhecha

INDULGE Salad, you will need just four anchovy fi llets. Anchovies can be often confused with sardines but they are distinctively different in taste and flavour. When soaked in cold water, anchovies loose the salty flavour. The taste of a canned anchovy or anchovy paste will never be the same as that of a fresh catch. You can store leftover anchovies in a sealed container covered with olive oil. ANCHOV Y DIP Ingredients 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup sour cream 1 tbsp mustard 2 tsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp garlic powder Anchovy fi llets, drained and chopped Method Combine ingredients until smooth. Wanna get your own theme card?

Ranjani Iyengar, owner at Pink Whistle Man Cards, specialises in designing quirky and customised wedding cards. When asked about the changing trends in wedding invitations, she says, “Earlier people chose only traditional cards only but now trends are changing. Youngsters today are willing to experiment. They want something that they can relate to. The demand for quirky cards has increased. We get requests from a lot of young couples who have no qualms of getting really crazy with their invitations”. Absolutely anything can inspire wedding card designers and couple looking to a little funk to their special day. “With the onset of monsoon, the umbrella logo with beach elements incorporated in the invitation card is really in. People want to experiment with the rain and everything related to it,” Ranjani states.

Quirky weddings have become du jour but things are beginning to go beyond just the Sangeet evening. In fact, the wedding invitation, the very first intimation of things to come, is also taking on a funky avtaar

By Zainab Kantawala @kantawalazainab

I

t turns out that, now, you can judge a wedding by its invitation card. Young couples are stepping away from staid ideas associated with a wedding and a customised invitation gives them a chance to share a teaser of their big plans for the D-day. When it comes to deciding on a

wedding invitation most couples go with something that is relevant to a decided colour scheme. Though there is nothing wrong with the traditional invite, it’s just that sometimes it’s nice to mix things up and inject a little fun into your invitations. If you’re still looking for inspiration, read on and meet some couples who really knew how to funk up their wedding.

Life in a notebook

A newspaper to say it all

D

hanush RL and Pratibha wanted to bring in the old world romantic charm while also showing off their sense of humour in their wedding card. They created a classic folded newspaper style invitation complete with various sections to provide guests with all of the important, and fun, details of their wedding to follow. “I was very keen on finding a very unique invitation for our wedding. After seeing several designs, we decided to have a customised

one as we always thought invitations that we choose should suit us as a whole. We wanted to include words about the importance of marriage by including quotes as well as have our pictures in the invitation, so we thought of a newspaper template,” says Pratibha. The couple planned out each and every section of the paper. “This newspaper format was apt for us as we had to include many details about our wedding and family. Also, it was unique and elegant,” she adds.

Turn all of your life experiences into a wedding card that you can keep forever. This is why Vaibhav Wagh and Pooja Desai chose their card to be a booklet, which they can read forever after. “I have seen many wedding cards and I wanted mine to be different. I chose a book because I wanted to share my journey of love with others. I have included letters to thank people without whom the wedding wouldn’t be possible,” says Vaibhav. The background of the book is dedicated to SP College, where the couple first met. An article is dedicated to the professors and class mates, who have supported them over the years. “We dated for around eight years. We have written about the restaurant where we used to go for dates, even mentioned the manager and the staff, who had become our friends,” says Vaibhav.

boring classes. The programme details have been treated like a time table. Additionally, we had a scrap book at our wedding with coloured pencils next to it for guests to write down little notes and wishes. It brought together the theme well. Also, as giveaways to our friends, we thought of a goody bag with lollipops and candies that as kids we would love,” says Rishi.

Invites sent out by families are usually formal and traditional. Sheena Agarwaal and Amish Singhal certainly didn’t want to send the same out to their friends. They wanted to personalise the invitations as each of their friend’s character matched those in the famous TV series, Friends. “Every friend, who is making it to my wedding, shares a long history with me

DDLJ revisted Box full of matches Sakshi Verma and Shantanu Garg believe they are the perfect match that’s why they chose the theme of a match box. The wedding cards feature the couple’s names, event details, and classic quotes about love. “We started thinking about different themes and decided that the matches-aremade-in-heaven theme. We narrowed in on the match box idea, which we thought would be cool to implement. We contacted the designer to help us develop the idea further and she did a fabulous job with it. Everyone just loved our card a lot,” recalls Shantanu.

Friends for life

Rishi Girdhar and Nitesh Kukreja chose to make it evident that they had met in school with their wedding card. The material of the envelope is akin to brown-paper, which covers text books and copies and the label has been designed like a name label sticker. “The background of the card is like a notebook and there are little scribbles here and there as we would do during

hence we have shared so many jokes and conversations between us. Both of us wanted to use the crux of our relationship and intertwine it with the story we share with our friends. Hence, the concept of a Friends-inspired wedding card,” explains Sheena. The couple were such Friendsgroupies that they even had names each

other after them. “We had nicknames from the show for each othernd it got interesting when we realised how we were like the characters in the show. I was the Rachael of the group and the only character missing was Ross. I soon realised that Amish is so Ross! He is caring and geeky. We just took it from there,” adds Sheena.

This is the movie that cemented Kajol and SRK as the perfect Bollywood couple ever. With this idea in mind Ritam Bhatnagar chose the theme for his wedding card, as he believes that his love for Megha Bhatnagar is an everlasting one. “The idea was pretty simple. My profession is related to films and my wife is a radio jockey. We wanted to have our professions reflect in our wedding card so that families on both sides can know each other. Also, as both of us are into the creative field, we were sure we didn’t want our card to be like what people usually have. So, we came up with a very contemporary card which had our story - how I convinced Megha to marry me - reflected on it,” grins Ritam.

Life imprisonment This couple dealt with the stress of planning the wedding planning with a generous dose of humour. Vaishnavi and Rajesh Reddy took thinking out of the box to a little extreme for their wedding invitation. “Our designer gave us a couple of brilliant ideas and we picked this one as we related to it the most. All we had to do is give enough information about our personalities and the invitation was done. The behind-bars-theme suited my husband the most as he is notorious for being quite a bully. And me being his partner-in-life just loved the ‘partner-in-crime’ idea,” says Vaishnavi.

THRILL OF DRIVING

VOLVO LAUNCHES NEW

V40 LUXURY HATCH

IN INDIA

olvo sells five different models in various categories in India, and while we’ve driven and appreciated many of them, their sales figures tend to lag the established European competition. Until recently, the V40 Cross Country was the only luxury hatch (or similar) vehicle from the India stables. That’s changed now with the launch of the proper V40 hatch. At prices starting at Rs 24.75 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the D3 Kinetic variant, the car is aggressively priced and good value for what it offers. Volvo hasn’t moved any goalposts with the V40. The

The Lodgy is an interesting MPV, externally sized somewhere between a Maruti Ertiga and the full-sized Toyota Innova. When we drove it at the launch earlier this year, we were impressed with its roominess and decent performance. It was always meant to be a ‘segment breaker’ and the STEPWAY edition goes one further. Renault is calling this India’s fi rst “crossover MPV”. We aren’t entirely sure what they mean, but there are changes in the trim bits. Renault has put on a new grille, the roof rails are a different colour, and the all-important skid plates (which, evidently, entitles anyone

There’s a park-assist function that can execute perfect parallel parking every time (though curiously, a parking camera is an ‘accessory’) and the V40 is even available with a unique ‘pedestrian airbag’ that reduces injuries to people you may inadvertently run down. With our sort of traffic, we’re not sure how useful this feature would be, a bit like the proximity parking alarms that we usually keep off in traffic. The Volvo V40 R-Design variant is also available, at a price of Rs 27.7 lakh (ex-Delhi), which includes more bells and whistles including a panoramic (but fi xed) front-to-back glass roof. The STEPWAY edition is a cosmetic refresh of the top-end Lodgy, so expect maximum equipment, including ABS with EBD, three row AC with individual controls, electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control and so on. The engine remains the 110PS/245Nm K9K common-rail diesel engine mated to a segment-fi rst 6-speed manual transmission. There’s also a 7” touchscreen entertainment system with navigation. The RxZ 110PS 8-seater is available for Rs 11.99 lakh, while the 7-seater is Rs 12.29 lakh, ex-Delhi.

This Teekhii Chhurii will brighten up your home Pooja Ajmera creates beautiful art using just paper and knives By Zainab Kantawala @kantawalazainab

S

he brings an interesting attitude to the traditional folk art of paper cutting. That is, perhaps, the best way to explain the Batman and Joker motifs that sit beside a declaration of love for beer. Pooja Ajmera Sanghi is giving Sanjhi, an intricate paper-cutting art form from Mathura, a modern twist. So, if you’ve got some moolah to spare and a few walls in the house that look bare, look up Teekhii Chhurii and be inspired. All of Pooja’s paper-cut artwork are originally designed, and painstakingly hand cut by her. She is a one woman army, who also handles the marketing and logistics of the brand all by herself. Pooja holds a degree in MBA and after working for a year, she realised that a corporate life was not something she wanted pursue. “After MBA, I

got a nice job in a leading executive search company but I was always inclined towards art. I soon realised that I wanted to start something of my own. So I quit my job to start Teekhii Chhurii,” says Pooja. The artist has another interesting story to tell as she talks about her first brush with the artform. “Two years ago, I was confused about what to get my sister in law on her birthday. I sketched a freehand design and started cutting

its borders then I framed it and that was her gift. Everybody in the family loved it. I started getting orders from my friends after seeing that work and that’s how Teekhii Chhurii came into existence,” she recalls. Pooja uses sharp blades to make paper cuts. The cutting process requires enormous skill, concentration and patience. The work is created out of a single sheet of archival-quality paper before

being framed in glass. “These works are painstakingly hand cut and are not laser cuts, prints, or paintings. My favourite project is making a storyboard. I love it when someone’s life comes alive on a piece of paper,” shares Pooja. Turning a single sheet of paper into beautiful art is not easy. Every design needs to be planned and the slightest mistake can ruin the entire project. The process starts with a personal interaction with

her clients about their interests and life in general. Based on the interactions, Pooja goes back to her drawing board to conceptualise a story revolving around important moments in the client’s life and their interests. She then draws them out on paper. She picks up her surgical knife and patiently cuts the design step by step. “This artform demands patience and a lot of concentration. The tricky part is to identify the portions to cut out and the portions to retain,” she adds. The beauty of paper-cut is that they can all be customised and every design is different from the other. All products are priced based on their size, detailing, and time spent in making each paper-cut. The art has subtly changed Pooja too. She agrees she is the most impatient soul on the planet, but give her a piece of paper and a knife and she gets into her own zone where nothing gets in her way. “I would describe it as stress buster. Sometimes, I work till four in the morning, not because someone asks me to but because I am passionate about the art,” she adds. It hasn’t been an easy ride for Pooja though. She has learnt everything about Sanjhi on her own. When asked about her inspiration she says, “I gather inspiration from things around me. From the nature to people I meet in day to day life, everything inspires me. I make everything come alive on paper through a paper-cut”. zainab.kantawala@goldensparrow.com

Farm waste turns into art Rahul Raut

Artist Ramesh Baheti has come up with a unique collage art that is made out of agricultural waste By Zainab Kantawala @kantawalazainab

E

ach of his labour of love requires nearly four to five months of dedicated effort. Over the last 36 years, he has patiently converted farm waste into large portraits, even winning international awards along the way. For 56-year-old Ramesh Baheti, patience is his most cherished virtue. After completing a diploma course in art from Aurangabad, Ramesh moved to Pune to earn a living. He switched a couple of jobs before realising that his passion for art was much more important than the security of a 9 am to 5 pm job. That’s when he quit his job to pursue collage art full time. “During a visit to my native village, Ambejogai, I noticed that the farmers would burn the wheat lids, as it decomposed at a very slow speed, and cattle too do not eat it. I thought of using these straws to make a collage,” recalls Ramesh. The portraits are made on 2.5ft by 3.5 ft pieces of plywood. The wheat lids are pasted on the plywood before the artist carefully

burns the lids to achieve the required shades. “I found out that the lids, when burned, catch fire immediately. The colour of the straws changes to brown, dark brown or black. I first sketch the outline, then slice the straws and paste them in small pieces on one large portrait. I have never used colours till date,” he explains, adding that a larger portrait would require

men are spending a lot of time and attention towards personal styling and grooming. The Indian male is becoming experimental with ever changing taste and style preferences. There was a clear shift from manual to electric shavers not very long ago but now there is trend observed that men are getting more and more conscious about their overall body grooming rather than just grooming their facial hair. This is a direct result of the fact that men are increasingly becoming style conscious and are taking that extra effort to look good.” While men have started to pay more attention to what the mirror is saying, even women are becoming vocal about their likes and dislikes. “Chest hair is a major put off. According to a survey on male grooming, 65 per cent women admitted that they prefer a well-groomed man, and 72 per cent of the respondents clearly stated that they only like men with well-groomed chest hair. Styling has evolved and grooming products are now evolving from utility towards aspiration. am completely against it. I prefer men with hair on their scalp and jaw line, not anywhere else,” says Priyanka Sood, a student. The survey reveals that women are becoming observant towards men’s body grooming. 65 per cent women insist that it is one of the factors that impact their choice of a spouse or partner. The top areas of concern are hair in the armpits and intimate areas. When asked whether they would be comfortable if their partner has chest hair showing from his sexy V-neck tee, 32 per cent women stated that they would refuse to step out of the house with someone sporting such a look. Another 30 per cent would, however, try to convince their partner to clean the hair off before stepping out. What they were asked? Men Have you ever considered using a grooming product for body grooming? Do you read up on manscaping or body grooming to get more information? Have you ever taken your partner’s opinion on body hair removal/ body grooming? Women How much does body hair impact your choice in your spouse/partner? Have you ever discussed your opinion regarding body hair removal with your partner? Does your partner indulge in body grooming? Which part of the body would you want your partner to consider first for hair removal?

Last year, he had sent photographs of two of his portraits to be considered for a competition organised by the US-based Focus Point Inter nat iona l Online Art Gallery. One of them was the portrait titled Vintage Lady while the other was titled Obama. C u r a t o r Elizabeth Merchant conveyed to him that two of his collage works were adjudged first place and second place in the portrait category. It is noteworthy that there were nine American judges, and all of them gave the first and second ranks to the portraits created by the Pune-based artist. zainab.kantawala@goldensparrow.com

Over 40 per cent men believe that excessive body hair do turn off their partner. 70 per cent men would like to know more about the best tools to remove body hair – all for the sake of intimacy. Songwriter and singer Siddharth Banerjee says, “I have hairy legs like most Indian men and I would not mind getting rid of it for work or maybe a girlfriend, who wants to experiment something.” For men, hair in armpits and intimate areas of women are top concern. “It’s not about hair but about hygiene. Hair should be short or trimmed to maintain cleanliness. For women armpit hair is a big turn off,” says Pratik Salunkhe, student. While 65 per cent women are open to speaking to their partners about their body grooming preferences, 60 per cent men are influenced by their partners. As men get increasingly curious about body grooming, 55 per cent men turned towards men’s magazines, mobile apps, men’s blogs and websites for answers. Interestingly, women too are taking charge of grooming their partners and 50 per cent women pick up men’s magazines for body grooming information. Stylist S Jitesh admits that men have begun to get more conscious about their grooming. “Earlier, it was only about haircuts and trimming a beard but now we have clients ask us about hair removal creams and razors that are safe for armpits and intimate areas. Hair removal creams should be completely avoided because they are not made for male skin. A trimmer or shaver should be used with utmost care,” Jitesh advises. anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

On a tired Friday night, Taal Inc’s drum circle pepped up the mood at Eurkisa making the evening truly enjoyable By Manasi Shroff

H

ere are some things to remember when you’re stepping out for a live performance to end the hectic week. Wear something comfortable and printed, which allows you to dance freely without worrying about the skirt being too short or the dress being too tight. Unwinding was the keyword and girls were seen in interesting shorts, maxi dresses and easy dresses. On the other hand, the men were all about funky kurtas and jeans or Taal Inc merchandise as they kept the traditional quotient up. It was a night where Euriska, at Koregaon Park, took a fl ight into traditional Africa and everyone on board was thrilled with the transformation. Raveena Sakiri stood carefree in her white crop top with a tribal printed blue palazzo appreciating the rhythm of the drums. The young third year psychology student and a WHAT? manager with an energy drink brand surely exuded interest in everything that happened around. She accessorised with a simple neckpiece and made a lot of way for her curls. Claiming to not be a very fashion conscious girl, Raveena’s relaxed sense of style comes to her naturally. “I even borrowed these shoes from my

mother,” she exclaimed. India’s only TTM certified professor, Djembefola Varun Venkit rocked the stage with his drumming skills as Taal Inc performed its unique tunes. Wearing uber-comfortable dhoti pants and a sleeveless tee with a drum hanging around his neck, Varun stole the show with his talent and style sense. The little ponytail and the juttis added to the cool drummer’s style and he totally justified the ‘traditional’ attire. The entire look was collected from various small cities and villages of the country.

Intoducing kids to SRK was hard Actor Hrithik Roshan was left confused over introducing Shah Rukh Khan to his kids Hridhaan and Hrehaan. The ‘Bang Bang’ actor, who met Shah Rukh at the Mumbai airport, said he struggled to come up with a name for the ‘Chennai Express’ star. “Dilemma! Didn’t know how to introduce @iamsrk to my boys! Too cool for uncle, full name, 1st name- not respectful. Man of love- too long! Need help. Ideas?,” Hrithik, 41, posted on Twitter. Shah Rukh, 49, also Tweeted that he was happy to see Hrithik and his sons. “Happy to see lil Hrithiks with PTI their dad on way for a holiday.”

I should not be compared with Hrithik: Dhawan Varun Dhawan, known for his brilliant dance moves, says he is too ‘new’ to fall into the league of Bollywood’s best dancers. Varun, 28, who will be next seen in Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD 2’, said Hrithik Roshan has been his inspiration behind taking up dance seriously. “I am new. I don’t even think my name should be mentioned in the league of Bollywood’s best dancers like Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda and Hrithik Roshan. “In terms of dancing, Hrithik is an inspiration to our generation. He is brilliant at what he does. That’s his style. My style is different too. So, we should carry on with our own style and don’t compare,” Varun told reporters during the promotion of “ABCD 2” here.

The “Badlapur” star feels it is good that people are comparing the upcoming film, a sequel to the 2013 film “ABCD”, with Hollywood’s “Step Up”. “‘Step Up’ is ‘ABCD 2’ of America. Honestly, the comparison even happened with the first film. But let the audience decide what it feels. It’s flattering that you are comparing us to one of the best dance films,” he said. “ABCD 2” is the story about real life struggles of couple of choreographers, who went on to win the World Hip-Hop dance championship. “Dance is the real star of the film. We rehearsed six months for the dance in the movie. At least physically, this has been the toughest film for me because I had to get in the best shape to play a dancer,” he said.

The former couple will be next seen in ‘Udta Punjab’, though they will not be seen romancing each other. The film also featuring Alia Bhatt and Punjabi star Diljit Dosankh. It is an amazing film... I loved the film. When Abhishek (Chaubey) was narrating me the film I found it brilliant. I wanted to be part of this film. I am sure people will talk about the film once it is released,” she added. Kareena is happy with Shahid’s recent success post his highly-acclaimed Vishal Bhardwaj-directed “Haider”. “I am happy for him. He is doing wonderful work... He is a good actor.
