Actor Bhushan Pradhan moves on from his chocolate boy image with a power-packed performance in Time Bara Vait By Anjali Shetty-Shirsath @shetty_anjali
S
ymbiosis alumnus, Bhushan Pradhan, has been smiling his way into many hearts thanks to his romantic image in fi lms. Th is year, he decided to change this image with a power-packed performance in the fi lm Time Bara Vait, which is an official remake of the Malayalam fi lm, Neram. It was director Rahul Bhatankar’s vision and confidence that Bhushan will be able to pull off an angry young man’s role. “I was pretty happy playing the typical chocolate boy because the audience loved me. After all, not everyone gets appreciated playing the boy next door. I assume that most directors thought that because I am good looking I can only do romantic fi lms. Rahul was the editor on two of my earlier fi lms and probably saw something more in me. I am glad he offered me this fi lm,” says Bhushan, who watched the original fi lm just once because he did not want to blindly imitate the protagonist. “I understood that I had to be original. I put in extra effort into the action sequences because I’d never done those earlier. I requested the production house to give me time to rehearse the sequences as I did not use a body double or any harness. The idea was to avoid injuries as well as make the shot look good, not stiff or artificial.” Having done only romantic and easy-onthe-eye roles, this fi lm was physically and mentally exhausting for the actor. Jatt James Bond to make his Bollywood debut Next month, Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal will be seen as Rajbir in Second Hand Husband TGS NEWS SERVICE @TGSWeekly
S
inger-actor Gippy Grewal is a big name in Punjab with numerous popular songs and fi lms to his credit. The obvious career trajectory would lead towards Bollywood but the 32-year-old did not jump at the fi rst script he was offered. He took his time and waited for an intelligent subject, he says. The fi rst Friday of July will see Gippy play the lead in Second Hand Husband. The actor is sharing space on the big screen with debutante, and Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan and veteran Dharmendra. Gippy shares, “I have done many Punjabi fi lms and my songs are a craze back home.
I knew I wanted to work in a Bollywood fi lm but I could not relate to the scripts being offered. I wanted to do a sensible project. Th is script was originally offered to me as a Punjabi fi lm. I thought this was an intelligent subject and deserved to be shown to a larger audience.” Second Hand Husband talks about alimony and the increasing number of divorces today. The fi lm intends to send a social message through an entertaining script. Gippy believes this subject hasn’t received much attention in Bollywood and developed the script for two years before taking the plunge. “The fi lm is my baby and I have really worked hard to bring out the product. I have kept the base and accent in Punjabi but the language is Hindi. I wanted it to be a mix of both to keep my fans back home happy as well as create a new fan base through Bollywood. The basic plot of the fi lm is that I am finding a husband for my wife. Th is leads to situations that are hilarious and thought provoking,” smiles Gippy, who has lent his voice to a few songs in
the fi lm as well. The message that he intends to send through the fi lm is the youth today should be aware of what they are getting into. “My character in the fi lm is Act rather upset but people will laugh and crack up because one the situations are funny. When a couple gets divorced there are many lives that are affected. I hope I am able bring about a difference in thoughts with this fi lm. People are expecting a lot from me. I feel responsible towards not just making a good entertainer but also portraying a sensible subject.” Gippy is glad that Bollywood fi lms are concentrating on content. The actor claims that his dear friend Aamir Khan helped him choose this subject for his debut fi lm. “You may have the best locations and the best actors but if your content is weak then you won’t be able to make a good fi lm,” he concludes. feedback.tgs@goldensparrow.com
has literally been on the run in the entire fi lm. “I have literally given my blood and sweat to this fi lm,” he laughs. The shoot was exhausting for the crew since they too had to run after the actor while fi lming. “What kept us energetic and excited on set was the fact that the shots turned out well. We would check the monitor after every shot and that would boost our confidence. When I saw how well the scene was being captured I would get charged up to give my 100 per cent for next shot as well,” he adds. About being typecast as a romantic hero, Bhushan shares, “I have done theatre earlier and I experimented with various roles. I wasn’t stuck to roles that needed good looking people. I now want to experiment with characters in fi lms. At times, good looks are a disadvantage because I am often offered roles of a foreign-return character or that of a glamourous boy.” Bhushan attributes his personality and grooming to his college Symbiosis. He believes he wasn’t born with this personality and was groomed at the educational institution. “Education is a must. After graduation, I did an MBA. People ask me why I wasted a seat when I knew I wanted to be an actor but I beg to disagree. I am using all that I learnt, especially management and communication skills. I see this missing in many young actors today. My education has helped shape my career and has made me focused too.” anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

If you are looking for some fresh Hindi rock music in the city, then make time to check out Antarix over the weekend
Rock on with Antarix

ntarix is an alternative rock band that plays a mix of fusion and classical rock music. They are a bunch of passionate musicians, who love playing and making music. Every band member is an IT professional and the group got together to have fun with music. Before forming the band, its members would perform at an IT company, where they worked. “But we were passionate about becoming a part of Pune music scene. So we members formed a band while a few others with a similar thirst for music joined us along the way” says vocalist Udbhav Varshney. Antarix’s playlist includes a mix of English, Hindi and Marathi songs. To maintain the exclusivity of their band, they usually perform originals and their diversity with language helps them connect with the audience. Their current lineup includes Sunil Menhdiratta and Rahul Dhake on guitars, Akshay Ambekar on drums, Bhaskar Jyoti Choudhury on bass and Udbhav Varshney on vocals and keyboard. “Initially, we were looking for a title with a Sanskrit origin, so that it connects with Indian audience plus we also wanted it to have some depth and weight. We decided on Antarix and the name has worked for us from then,” says Akshay.
Their sound is a combination of melody and rock elements. In July, Antarix will release its single Ansunaa along with a video, which will be available on Youtube as well as online music sites. Even though it is challenging to compose music, and to make a mark in the circuit, the band has strived to ideate and create originals. It is their belief that Hindi Rock can make a mark too. Antarix recently won the runners up prize at the Hard Rock Rising Competition held in Pune, “We won the internal battle of bands with a performance that got us the initial recognition among the music lovers. Thereafter, we have performed at various venues in Pune. Hard Rock Cafe gave us the most important breakthrough in the local music scene and gave us a good exposure,” adds Udbhav. Apart from the Delhi-based rock band Parikrama, Antarix members look to various bands like Porcupine Tree, Coldplay, Black Sabbath and Green Day for inspiration. “We have covered their music at a lot of venues. We are currently into Indie Rock but we have done lot of experimental music as well.” When: July 4 Where: The Beer Cafe, Koregaon Park zainab.kantawala @goldensparrow.com
How city musician’s wowed Amish Tripathi? Pune musicians made it large with a live drumming event at the launch of the author’s new book TGS NEWS SERVICE @TGSWeekly

he launch of Amish Tripathi’s new book, The Scion of Ikshvaku, had readers and the author dance to drumbeats by Pune musicians. Arthur
Fernandes, a psychologist, drummer and musician, along with Tanmay Velenkar, composed the musical piece that opened the evening. Arthur and the Music Matters team created a 12-minute piece that was appreciated by Amish Tripathi and his wife Preeti. After a practice session with Amish the
night before the launch with Arthur and Tanmay, Amish was convinced of the grand and energetic launch that was to follow. Mark Raj, a singer-songwriter-music producer from the city shares, “The team was absolutely energetic. During rehearsals, everyone had a great vibe that was later witnessed at the launch. One could actually feel the drums and the amazing rhythm that filled the room.” The idea was to weave in music and memories that would help readers cherish the moment. The author was completely awestruck by the idea of a live performance by the musicians and said, “The experience left the audience energised and euphoric, creating an atmosphere which was truly electric and spiritual, reverberating with beats and chants. I am sure it will be an evening that everyone will remember for a long time to come thanks to the fabulous drumming” Kaustubh Deshpande, a musician and percussionist, present at the venue said, “Being around a bunch of exuberant youngsters was some experience. The team really taught me that leadership is not about glorious crowning
acts. It’s about keeping the team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and consequences really matter. These guys lay the groundwork for others’ success and then stand back and shine. Nothing could stop us from rocking the event.” feedback.tgs@goldensparrow.com

dairy ice creams. Anuradha Sawhney, founder of Back to Basics, talks about the benefits of vegan ice creams and shares some interesting and quick tips on making some at home. There are two aspects to choosing vegan ice creams, one being cruelty against animals and the other being adulteration in the dairy industry. Over the years, Anuradha shares, dairy products have been adulterated to make milk thicker. “I realised we are doing more harm to our body by consuming adulterated products. So I made the switch to veganism. But we are used to certain foods and it becomes difficult to give up,” smiles Anuradha, You can replace dairy milk with any nut milk which includes soy, almond, cashew or sesame. You can also use brown rice milk. All you have to do is figure out which milk you need and then zero down on a flavour to add to it. “It is a simple and easy procedure to make vegan ice cream at home. The health benefits include no saturated fats and no cholesterol. Moreover, vegan ice cream has no artificial flavouring or preservatives. You can also choose your sweetener and replace sugar with jaggery. These mixes last in your freezer for a good time making it easy to enjoy dessert anytime,” explains Anuradha. One can experiment with flavours like mango, black current, chocolate, vanilla and pumpkin. anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

Star fruit, or Carambola, brings a sweet and tarty flavour to a dish
By Anjali Shetty-Shirsath @shetty_anjali
C
arambola, or star fruit, is used in Southeast Asia, Pacific islands and China. Although found abundantly, carambola is yet to gain popularity, especially in the
western world. Star fruit is generally used as a garnish in salads, sorbets, drinks, as well as to impart a tart flavour in dishes. It is shaped like a star when sliced and the ripe fruit tastes like cross between green apple and grapes.
Food on the go
Executive chef, Karla Dutia, F Beach House, shares, “Only sweet variety of carambola are eaten fresh, or mixed with other fruits in salads. Fresh carambola juice can be used in cocktails with other complementing tropical fruit juices. Sour-type fruits are favoured in cooking as they give a unique tart flavour to poultry, meat, and seafood dishes. Cut sections of fresh fruit added in stews, curries, and stir-fries with chicken, fish and shrimp. The fruit can be used to make sauce, pickle, chutney, tarts, and jam. Carambola acts as a great home remedy for hangovers, sunburns, cough, fever, ulcers and sore throats. It is also said to have effectively cured diabetes and indigestion. The fruit has only 30 calories and is a source of vitamins A, B and C. It lowers cholesterol levels and purifies the blood, making the skin glow. anjali.shetty@goldensparrow.com

New parents are known to ‘over-share’ and post endless pictures of their babies, flooding your newsfeed. One such overjoyed soul is Arwa Mukadam, 28, who has signed in on FB with a new account for her threemonth-old baby boy, Burhan. “I wanted to share my happiness with others, so I thought of opening a social media account. I like posting videos and his cute photos. I have added only family members, whom I can trust completely. For me, social media is a platform that helps share experiences. Everyone enjoys the posts and likes the videos I share,” she says. She mainly posts pictures of her little one and the changes he goes through. “I think everything my son does is cute and I love to post pictures all day long,” she adds.

on’t be surprised if you come across a profi le of a new born baby on Facebook. Pets too have their own space online these days. The profi les are, of course, just for laughs but the idea is catching on and people are busy showing off their creativity.

FEATURES Pet-owners are very passionate about their pets so taking these conversations to a social network seems like a natural next step. Sometimes, having a pet’s social media profile can help when you want to give a pet for adoption. I think this is a very cool thing. You also get to know of new pet-friendly places like restaurants, parks, through profiles and pictures of other pets. So this opens up a new avenue for pet owners to share their experiences. — SHALAKA MUNDADA, PET BEHAVIOURIST AND FOUNDER OF PETSITTERS
Satveek Bhawar
Babies too make their debut on FB
Satveek’s parents were worried that once their son was old old enough to get on the Internet, he would have a tough time getting a URL and other identities in his name. So they decided to create five-year-old’s profi le on social media. “With social media and Internet becoming such an important part for kids, I was genuinely worried about his profi le. I wanted him to have an exclusive page where he would not have to tweak his name to get a profi le done,” said his mother.
Arush Kolekar Remember how your mother would show off your childhood pictures with pride? Social media helps you do just that but much quicker. When Arush Kolekar (3) sees his mom Chaitrali open her laptop or unlock her mobile phone he runs to her, demanding to see his picture. “I opened an account for him when he was
born. I am sure he will be thrilled to see his journey on social media when he grows up. I make sure I put up the tiniest of details. Th is way I’m creating a memory lane for Arush and me. It will be great fun to sit back and watch the journey together in a few years,” adds Chaitrali.

Arush Gaikwad Arush Gaikwad should have a ready account once he turns 15 and that is why his father Ravikant Gaikwad started a Facebook profi le on his behalf. “Arush loves to see his pictures and his updates get attention and likes. He chooses pictures and suggests which ones should be his profi le/ cover picture for the day. These are memories I would like to gift him once he grows up,” smiles Ravikant.
There’s nothing unusual about the way Crown Singh Tomar starts his day. After a quick breakfast, the three-year-old Lhasa Apso goes upstairs and crawls into his mom’s unmade bed. About an hour later, a well-rested Crown visits the family laptop to log on to Facebook (FB) and update his status. Of course, the lack of opposable thumbs makes it slightly difficult for Crown to use the laptop by himself. Crown’s owner, Kanchan Rajput, created the FB account to keep her friends and family up to date on his progress. Kanchan ensures everything Crown does is uploaded for everyone to see. Crown has many mutual friends with his mom and dad apart from numerous four-legged friends. It’s not Kanchan explains how Crown landed on networking, FB, “Well, I noticed he is very good when the camera is on. He poses on cue. I thought it’s the best thing to do would be to start an petworking! online profi le to show off his toothy grin. I check-in on his behalf to places we visit. His lunch/dinner updates are a hit along with his photographs,” says Kanchan, who adopted Crown two years ago. She keeps Crown’s FB friends in the loop by posting photos and updating his status to reflect what he’s doing at that point in time. Kanchan believes the social media presence is simply an extension of pet-friendly restaurants and petfriendly baked goods. “Some of my friends mock me but I enjoy posting on behalf of my pet,” she declares.
Rocky Rocky is taking over FB, YouTube and Instagram. This is one pet who loves to flaunt his beauty in the virtual world. Sonia Khaira’s love for her pet led her to open a FB and Instagram account for her pet. She uploads Rocky’s videos and pictures on a daily basis. “We love Rocky so much because his innocence and playfulness never fails to cheer us up. We wanted other dog and animal lovers to enjoy his comic antics too so that it could make their day as well. We also wanted Rocky to be active on the social networking group so he could mingle with other pets,” says Sonia. She believes that Rocky has a hidden talent as an actor and has become quite the Instagram celebrity with his Dubsmash videos, even inspiring other dogs to follow suit. “At first, it was a bit strange because people wondered why Rocky needed his own Instagram and FB account and they did not take it seriously. However, since he has got attention from a lot of other pet owners, people we know have become more appreciative with our efforts and have started following and liking his videos,” Sonia adds.
Sarah Pawar, a sevenyear-old fur of love, is the daughter of Ranjeetsinh Pawar. He’s created the Sarah’s FB account five years ago because Sarah was a popular dog among friends in college. “I remember people would constantly ask about her and would be eager to know what Sarah was up to. So, I decided to create an account and update it with her antics. On her behalf, I often comment on her friend’s profi les,” says Ranjeet.
Nowadays, people want to show off everything, be it something materialistic like a new dress or even their child. It is because people are addicted to social media. But everything cannot be posted online. A toddler will not understand but their privacy should also be respected. You can see the corners of the bonnet from the driver’s seat and you generally find yourself looking down at other motorists at traffic stops. If that’s your idea of fun, then the Storme is fun to drive. Otherwise, not so much. The 2015 model engine makes 150PS, 10 above the previous model, but it’s not something that you feel on a daily basis. Torque remains the same at 320Nm. There’s still a lot of turbo lag, so you have to be careful in rowing the 5-speed gearbox to keep up a rapid pace of progress. The turbo kick can be fun in some cars, but in the heavy Storme, it serves as an annoyance. A more linear powerplant would be appreciated.

If you were one of the many wondering what benefits accrued to Tata Motors from their acquisition of Jaguar-Land Rover, perhaps you’ll see a tiny trickle-down effect in the grille, which along with the tweaked headlamps, recalls some Land Rover vehicles. It is substantially the same as the outgoing model externally, with an improved interior. We drove the 2.2l VariCOR diesel engine model, which also more or less behaved like the previous model. If you’re a fan of the Safari lineage, then the new Storme will appeal to you. Otherwise, there’s just not enough new on the vehicle to catch the eye. It’s hard to miss, of course, being as large and tall as it is. This bland silver colour didn’t do our test car any favours. You could call it business-like, if you felt charitable.

Perhaps the biggest downside to the Safari Storme remains the suspension. It is best described as nautical. There’s generous pitch upon acceleration and braking, and enough body roll to keep your sporting intentions well in check, but not your lunch. It feels like the entire vehicle is suspended on a thick slab of jelly. Consequently, ride quality is comfortable for all passengers, but not as much as to overshadow the formidable competition from other manufacturers. Our test car came with 4x4, though we didn’t have a chance to test it in appropriate conditions. The system is actuated by a simple knob to switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive modes (low and high ratios). This can be done on the fly under 80kmph and the vehicle doesn’t need to be at a dead stop. The knob itself used to be between the seats, and has now been relocated to the centre console below the entertainment system. Tata claims the new Storme is more efficient as well as more powerful. Looking at the rapidly descending fuel indicator needle, Tata’s claimed 14kmpl (up 0.4kmpl from earlier) seems optimistic. The variants range from Rs ten lac to Rs 14.35 lac as tested. At this price, it’s right up against the Mahindra XUV, a newer vehicle with a laundry list of features and accoutrements. You can even get a range-topping Scorpio with a feature list long enough to embarrass the Storme, at almost a lac less. At these prices, you’re just not getting as much value with the Tata as you do elsewhere. There’s a lot of cars you can buy for Rs 14.35 lac today. The most obvious competition to the Safari Storme are the Mahindra XUV and Scorpio. Both offer more features, better ride and recently, better ergonomics than the Storme. The Tata has a certain something going for it, but it takes a true fan to buy one. tushar@goldensparrow.com

art that they barely even lift up their head. Pune is home to some very talented artists for whom getting recognised is a far away story. A deep passion for their art drives the artists every single day. Meet some lesser known artists from the city who earn their daily bread through the medium of art.
With sketches scattered across the floor, amidst the hustle and bustle on the busy FC Road, you’d find this talent quietly sitting under the tree near Vaishali Restaurant. Rajendra Khode is a self-taught artist and he specialises in creating sketches. After falling out with his family, Rajendra was forced to fend himself on his own very early in life. “In school, my drawings were appreciated a lot but after my father’s death I had to drop
out after standard seven. My aunt took care of me and my mother. After my mother’s death, my aunt pushed me out of the house. At times, there was no food to eat, and the only option left for me was to beg. I always wanted to learn how to draw, but I never got the chance,” says the 51-year-old. Rajendra met with an accident three years ago and lost his leg. He then decided to bring his art outdoors, by the roadside. It is hard to miss
his sketches on display. “Due to high blood sugar level, my bones have weakened and surgery won’t help fix my leg. I guess this is God’s way of giving me a chance to do what I’ve always wanted to. Now, I make sketches for people.” People who go by the road everyday know the artist well as he has become a more or less permanent fixture there. “I am seated on the footpath all day with a sketch board, papers and a pencil in hand. I use pencil colours.
People, who want their sketch made, hand me their passport size photograph. It takes me two to three hours to make a single sketch,” Rajendra adds. He gets nearly three customers each day and charges Rs 100, per sketch. “This is the only medium I know to earn a living and it is much better than begging. Earlier, I would sit at Koregaon Park but now this is only my home,” says Rajendra.
Nitin Salvi Take a walk around Sarasbaug and you might bump into a calligraphy artist surrounded by customers vying for some attention. In school, Nitin Salvi would doodle and draw in his exercise books, which also got him into trouble at times. His techniques are as diverse as his choice of subjects and he includes names into various motifs as per your choice. “I practice a free hand art. It takes me just five minutes to draw ones name into various shapes. I studied till the standard 12 after which I
Kashinath Shankar Charan There is something that sets this 70-year-old cobbler apart from the others. Besides hammering nails onto the soles of shoes, he also sketches portraits of people passing by in his free time. Kashinath Shankar Charan’s stall is located on JM Road and besides his tools lays a bundle of drawing papers, colour pens and pencils. When his customers are not around he is busy sketching. He also sometimes uses magnifying glass to create intricate detailing in his work. “I was always
inclined towards art but I never got the opportunity to learn. I am a selftaught artist. My favourite subjects are Shivaji Maharaj and Ganesha. I have made a lot of portraits based on them,” he says. Kashinath stays with his family at the Taljai slum pocket. He cycles everyday to and fro carrying his equipment and his drawing book. “I make my living by polishing shoes and repairing them. The artwork is just for me, it’s something that helps me de-stress,” says the artist.
took up a job as a graphic designer but I wanted to start something on my own. I found my true calling with sketching and calligraphy and since the past eight years I’ve been doing this,” he says. It isn’t very easy for Nitin to fend for his two-year-old daughter and wife only on the basis of his work. “I manage to make ends meet with my art. My customers are usually parents, who bring their kids to the park, or couples. Quite a few people ask me to do their portraits and caricatures too,” he adds.
Apart from this, Nitin also does portraits from photographs. He uses pastel, acrylic colours and sketch pens to create his artwork and charges between Rs 30 to Rs 50 depending on the size and detailing required. “I have never used a pencil or an eraser till date. I make around Rs 500 on a daily basis. This has become my life now. I believe my art will give me an opportunity to be an important person some day,” says the 35-year-old artist. zainab.kantawala @goldensparrow.com

Step up to Kizomba
Features
This petite danseuse emphasises on technique, music and attitude, as every bit of it holds a lot of importance when it comes to the Angolan dance form By Zainab Kantawala @kantawalazainab
A
ngola is known for its music and dance and the country’s musical and dance style, Kizomba, is now making its way to the city. Abhilasha Mahant Chowdhary is, in fact, conducting a Kizomba and Tarraxinha workshop in Pune. Abhilasha formally trained in these styles in Paris and is a senior instructor for Latin American dance forms, including Salsa, Jive, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Bachata. She is on a mission to spread awareness on these dance forms, which are lesser known to Pune. “Kizomba originated in Angola and almost all Kizomba songs are sung in Portuguese. The music has romantic rhythms and is mainly about having a connection with your partner. Where
as Tarraxinha (a Kizombo move) is extremely sensual and musical. The dance is mainly about body isolation movements in an intimate style. There is minimal footwork in this dance forms but it requires an excellent sense of body rhythm. Kizomba is about the chemistry between you and the partner,” explains Abhilasha. The dance form has some similarities with Tango - both the dance forms, for instance, demand intensity and closeness between partners. When asked about the difference between two dance forms, Abhilasha says, “In Kizomba, there are more passionate hip
and lower body movements. Partners dance closely on slow musical rhythm instead of catching up with strong beats. Kizomba music is characterised by a slower and very romantic rhythm.” Tarraxinha, on the other hand, is the erotic, percussive cousin of Kizomba. In Angola, it is known as the dance of love. This dance involves hip movements that are subtly controlled by the male partner. “Tarraxinha involves two bodies moving as one, fitting into the rhythm of the music. These dance forms evoke a different feeling. When you dance with your partner,
whether it’s a girl or a guy, there is a different kind of energy and communication. With Salsa and Bachata, the partners are a little further away from each other and they lead with the hands but in Tarraxinha there is deeper connection, and the music is different as well,” she adds. Dance has always been an integral part of Abhilasha’s life. She underwent Kathak training in the Indore gharana, before taking up Latin American beats. “I was always inclined towards dance from childhood. I believe dance is a creative art form, and no matter the level of mastery you have achieved, there is always more to discover,” she says. Abhilasha started Naach Dance Café to spread awareness about dancing. She believes that dance does not just help better one’s physical well-being but it helps build emotional strength as well. “There’s nothing as de-stressing and enjoyable as dancing. Teaching has been my passion and sharing the joy of dancing with others is what satisfies me the most,” she says. Besides, she is also involved with the city’s most awaited dance festival - International Dance Festival. Abhilasha is also the editor of India’s first dance magazine Naach. zainab.kantawala@goldensparrow.com

edicating a night just for the ladies, One Lounge attracted all the pretty girls in the city and brought them under one roof. The men were there too, trying to impress the women, but most girls had a different agenda altogether. The women stood out in bold and bright outfits while the men managed to make an impression. Keeping it relaxed, the men took to casually styled shirts or basic tees with a twist. Filmmaker Smriti Th akur totally rocked her grunge look. A little red dress with a slight drape
on the side and a black leather jacket made a killer combination for the lady as she slipped into her gladiator heels. Her bold avatar didn’t end here. There are very few ladies we know who take that big step and chop their hair off like Smriti did, and she completely owned it. A red lipstick helped carry the look off like a pro. Moving on to the man of the evening, we decided to put the spotlight on the DJ. Well, I guess that’s every man’s wish, isn’t it? ctress Kangana Ranaut has served a legal notice on T-Series to block the release of its upcoming film ‘I Love NY’ featuring her. Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, ‘I Love New Year’, a romanticcomedy with Sunny Deol and Kangana in the lead roles, was initially planned to be released in February 2013. However, the release got pushed to April, then to September and later December the same year, but did not hit the screens. Although the exact reason for the delay was not known, the film was reportedly shelved due to the poor response to its trailer and not-so-good outcome of Sunny’s last few films at the box office. “The producer ought to realise that. By belatedly releasing an abandoned film, they would willfully hamper the name and
Mother-in-law likes to see me in glamour roles

ollywood veteran Sharmila Tagore wants to see Kareena in glamorous roles, says her actress daughter-in-law. “She (Sharmila Tagore) likes me in glamorous parts. She liked me in ‘Fevicol’ song. She loves song and dance, so she always says that I should look sexy and glamorous,” Kareena said. Kareena said she takes inspiration from Sharmila, a yesteryear actress, in managing household and career.
“She is my inspiration as she continued her career despite getting married and having children. She worked with biggest superstars and filmmakers. It is important for me to do that. She will always be my inspiration to have a career and family together,” Kareena said. But while many other actresses who are Sharmila’s contemporaries are still working, she is not seen in films now. “I do miss her in films. I have been a great fan of Hema Maliniji and my mother-in-law. I think they have been iconic actresses,” Kareena added. The ‘Singham Returns’ star is looking forward to the release of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ where she is paired opposite Salman Khan. In the film, she plays a school teacher. “This is a story about how she meets Salman and how she helps him in his journey with the girl to Pakistan. Salman’s fans will get to see his different side. After a long time, there are performances and in-depth story, drama,” Kareena said. PTI
image of my client (Kangana), which is morally and ethically wrong. In my notice, I have asked them to stop the release of the said film, as was verbally assured to my client on numerous occasions,” her lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee told PTI. Kangana, whose past few films, including ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ have done well at the box office, is upset as the producers of ‘I Love NY’ are releasing the film without her permission. Apparently the makers are cashing in on her recent box office success. “The film Industry thrives on trust. Not everything is supposed to be looked at as black and white and with commercial interests. My client blindly trusted and believed in what the producer communicated to her and therefore did not even insist on a copy of the agreement,” Siddiquee said. PTI
Shahid Kapoor out of ‘Farzi’
T
he makers of bollywood actor Shahid Kapoorstarrer ‘Farzi’ are reportedly roping in some other actor to play the lead in the upcoming film as the “Haider” star has date issues. The 34-year-old actor was supposed to star in director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s upcoming film ‘Farzi’. “We are rescheduling dates for ‘Farzi’. We are figuring out things. We are working out the dates for this film of Shahid. But things look tough as he has back-to-back films — ‘Shandaar’ and ‘Udta Punjab’. So he will be busy promoting them as well,” sources said.
“It is premature to say anything right now. May be in a week or so things will be clear,” the sources added. Gossip mills are abuzz that ‘2 States’ star Arjun Kapoor might replace Shahid in ‘Farzi’. “We are thinking of other actors. We are considering Arjun. But nothing is finalised yet,” the sources said. ‘Farzi’ was expected to go on floors in December last year but that did not happen. Then Shahid began shooting for ‘Shaandar’ in London and returned to India in February to start filming Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’. PTI

ctor Randeep Hooda will play the titular role in ‘Sarabjit’, a biopic on the slain Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh and his sister’s struggle for his release. Co-starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Sarabjit’s elder sister Dalbir Kaur, the film will be directed by ‘Mary Kom’ helmer Omung Kumar.
