THE SECRET OF “THE GOLDFISH FORMULA The goldfish is a little pet. It watches everything from his glass basin, it sees the outside transformed in stretched and deformed images. Nobody would guess though that the goldfish has a very bad memory and that it suffers loneliness. We chose this name by chance, by sympathy. But maybe, we also chose it to improve the goldfish's condition: it will never be forced to a distorted visions, it will jump out from his glass world and it will swim towards a nicer future, without the curved glass screen and the padded water. This will be the jump that we all should do to change our point of view. Sure, the home of the goldfish is not the best, it always is in a separated position. The hightest concept of 'welcoming' is the sea. It's in its instincts although he might have never seen the ocean before. The sea, full of fish, open space and different communities is the inspiration. We equal a small fish lost in the chaotic modern world, the city has become our big glass ball, closed to other indivi-

duals. So, with the sea on the mind, we'll transform this glass ball city in an open space, welcoming, free and different.'The Goldfish Formula' will change it. Our group is formed by: Marcia Assumpsao, from Brazil; Louisa Koeber, from Germany; Giorgio Campo, from Italy; Stephanie Rosta, from Sweden; Delia Bertato, from Italy. Different cultures and different glass balls. Target: the sea. We were looking for different ways of 'welcoming' in Milan, in other cities, in smaller and bigger communities. Everyone as an individual but always in touch with other different point of views. The street is the main open space of the city, space that can host a welcoming feeling and trends. We wrote this paper to generate new inspiration for the future. Caotic modern world, the city has become our big glass ball, closed to other fish, crowded and dispersiva. So, with the sea in mind, we'll work to transform this our little city in an open space, welcoming, free and different. The Goldfish Formula will change the glass ball!

DOME COLONY X, A PROJECT FOR THE FUTURE CITY

Ranges geodesic tents in the former of Dia building, in New York, and offer them as space to host domestic social activities that the standard apartament is too cramped or remote to accomodate. The idea is to share a place in the centre of the community, as the ancient societies did. In the bad perspective of a future without space, Fritz show a return to the past values, in a more welcoming society. LIFT BIKE

It’s a new way to encourage

people to use their bicycles for transportation on a daily bases. The new method was created in Norway where people didn`t use the bicycle as a means of transport for failing breath to follow the huge slops in the city. If you are tired of cycling, you can put a coin in the machine that the elevator takes you along with your bike to the top of the slope. A simple and innovative method that targets the comfort of the citizen and the future of the city. Source: http://blog.brasilacademico.com

CUSTOMIZED INVITATIONS

The mood you get in by really feel that you are one of the few guests that are chosen to get invited to a party is indescribable. It’s a feeling that you are welcomed. The Childhood Foundation arranged a charity ball this spring and the invitation was a children’s’ bracelet with the letters of your name in a certain colour which the guests were obliged to wear in order to get in to the party. Before the event you saw which other guests who were coming from the bracelet s the guests were welcomed before the actual party had even begun.

WIKICITIES

Based on the the modern infrastructure of digital objects it is possible to have access and to submit any information from anywhere anytime. The MIT uses real-time communication system to develope a dynamic and complex solution for helping the inhabitants to make the better decisions because of the latest information provided by any member of the network. Each person who has access to digital devices like Ipods or mobile phones can automatically be such a member. Because of the highly interactive exchange of data it is a very complex project which combines not only technological but also social aspects. Therefore the senseable city lab consists of people doing research on multi-disciplinary topics. Source: diid disegno industriale industrial design, Innovation and research, year VII, 2009 n. 39

ALOHA MEANS HELLO!

KiosKiosk offers a small kiosk space to startups selling ceramics, art, fashion and other creative products. At no cost to its temporary tenants. Creative organisations, businesses or individuals ready to trade simply send in their details and explain why they’re a good candidate to fill the space. KiosKiosk’s founders note that, although the number of people enrolling in design courses in the UK increases each year, it’s difficult for creative businesses to find affordable retail space in locations with enough foot traffic to attract potential buyers. The initiative is backed by the London Sustainable Development Commission, working to promote creative independent shops instead of more dime-a-dozen souvenir stalls. As well as encouraging startups and up-andcoming designers, the kiosk is a low-cost way for London to showcase the abundance of local creativity to visitors from around the world.

The best way to feel welcomed to a city or country that you don’t know too well is to get a gift that is typical for the country. In Hawaii for example travellers are getting welcomed with a flower necklace. This is a tradition since many years ago but is also a tradition that I think more cultures could take after. When arriving to Milan, why not offer the tourists a card with some of the many football players from the teams AC Milan or Inter? Source: Myself Picture: www. birthdayexpress.com

WELCOMING AS A SENSATION

In the exposition-installation BoxShock, in Triennale Bovisa, you can feel different sound experiences, putting your head in a “MindCube” designed by Andrea Modica. One of this experiences, “Home Sweet home”, is created by Diego Sferrazza and its purpose is to bring the listener to his sense of house, with familiar sounds, like the noise of the dishes in the kitchen, or the tv voices, and many others. This can be defined as a new way to go back to your own sense of welcoming, with a sound that is common but also typical of your childwood. The music, the noises, the feelings that you can have are all linked with a general direction of wellness and easiness, without the use of any word.

A NEW KIND OF FISH MARKET: AN OPEN AND “STILISH” PLACE

Located in one of Istanbulís most populated and diverse neighborhoods, Besiktas is an eclectic area with a village-like atmosphere that is in the process of urban renewal. The Besiktas Fish Market is located on a triangular site. The design solution was to maintain its iconic neighborhood presence, while also reaffirming its welcoming feeling. We can consider this as a welcoming place, with no door, in a un-place. It’s a way to reevaluate a traditional being of the city, and to show it to other people.

TAGGING WITH SCENTS

Mitchell Heinrich developed a new kind of ìsmell graffitiî. Using essential oils and refillable atomizing spray cans, Heinrich introduces incongruous perfumes into urban spaces. With the aim of uplifting and embellishing repellent spaces, he believes scent can be a powerful artistic force. Scent is interpreted by the limbic system which is very closely tied to emotion and memory. This means that interacting with people using scent can potentially be a much more powerful medium than paint since people experiencing it canít help but react to it. The goal of this project is to create a new kind of interaction with peolpe and the city and a new way the people experience the city.
