Genesis 17 – 18; 21:1-7

Abram was nearly one hundred, and he and Sarai still had no children! But God reminded Abram that he had promised him a family. And he made a new promise:

“People from your family will be kings.”

God gave them new names: Abraham, which means “father of many,” and Sarah, which means “princess.”

One of the visitors made a promise:

“This time next year, Sarah will have a baby boy.”

When she heard this, Sarah laughed because she did not believe him. “I am too old to have a baby!” she thought.

A few months later, Sarah became pregnant. A year later, she had a baby boy. She and Abraham were parents at last! Now Sarah laughed with happiness. God had kept his impossible promise! They called the baby Isaac, which means “he laughs.”

Isaac grew up and married Rebekah. They had two sons: Esau and Jacob.

Abraham and Sarah’s family was growing at last.
