43. Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Daniel 6

Daniel lived in Babylon. He worked for the king, and he loved God. He prayed to God every day.

Some other men who worked for the king wanted to get Daniel into trouble. So they said to the king…

“We think you should say that everyone must pray to you, and not to God. Anyone who does not obey you should be thrown into a den full of hungry lions.” So that is what the king commanded.

The men peeked into Daniel’s house… and there he was, praying to God. They told the king. The king liked Daniel, but he couldn’t change what he had said. Daniel was thrown into the den of hungry lions.

That night, the king couldn’t sleep. But that night, the lions didn’t eat.

So when the king went to the den in the morning, there was Daniel – still alive!

The king was really happy. He had the men who had got Daniel into trouble thrown into the den of hungry lions themselves. And he told everyone in Babylon…

“Daniel’s God is the real God. He is the greatest ruler. He can rescue people.”
