52. Jesus Escapes
Matthew 2:12-23
The wise men were very happy to have found the king in Bethlehem. But God gave them a dream that warned them not to let King Herod know where Jesus was. So they went home without seeing Herod again.

After the wise men had left, God sent an angel into one of Joseph’s dreams. “Herod does not want to let Jesus stay alive,” the angel said. “Get up and take Jesus to Egypt.”
Joseph believed the angel and so he obeyed what he said. He, Mary, and Jesus left Bethlehem as fast as they could, in the middle of the night, and went to live in Egypt.
When Herod found out that the wise men had gone home without telling him where Jesus was, he was very angry. But he was too late. Jesus was safe.
Jesus lived in Egypt with Joseph and Mary until Herod died and it was safe to come home. Then they went back to Nazareth and Jesus grew older, and bigger, and smarter.
