FACULTY EXCELLENCE
CULTIVATING AN INSPIRED & INSPIRING FACULTY
OUR PRIORITY: FACULTY EXCELLENCE Our faculty are teachers, coaches, mentors, advisors, and dorm parents. They constantly find new ways to engage students, create community, and develop programs. They give our students the right balance of challenge and support, guiding them to discover new talents and interests. These exceptionally talented, caring, dedicated adults are the heart of our school. Plentiful opportunities for professional development of all types help us to retain our accomplished, ambitious faculty, who desire the opportunity to challenge not only their students, but also themselves. When you give to With True Courage: The Campaign for Governor’s, you ensure that our faculty are inspired to do their best work and that our school continues to be an inspiring place to learn. You provide professional development funds to support teachers who are pursuing advanced degrees, exploring new subjects, and adopting new teaching techniques. You give our teachers more opportunities to strengthen and sharpen their practice by giving them the resources they need to create innovative courses and experiences for our students. You also allow Govs to reward the excellent work being done by members of our faculty by recognizing them with endowed chairs and fellowships.

INVESTMENT IN EXCELLENCE & INNOVATION Faculty are the cornerstone of the Govs experience.
“Our faculty are both the foundation of a Govs education and the engine that pushes us forward. They’re always looking to see how the art of teaching can be refined to the benefit of our students. Through this campaign, we seek to build on the Academy’s history of innovation.”
Every student has a story about an adult at Govs who, in ways large or small, made a profound impact on their life. In the classroom, on the field, on the stage, in the dorm, in the dining hall—our faculty have a transformative effect on our students. Their attention, encouragement, and trust stay with students for a lifetime. This has been true for more than 250 years. Our institutional priority is a vibrant academic experience, and we seek to deepen our investment in our faculty by expanding the resources to support them. We know students learn best when they are reaching, stretching, and growing. The same is true for our faculty. They search for smart, thoughtful innovations that enrich our academic program and inspire students. Their growth helps students develop their passions, gain confidence, choose a path, and thrive as lifelong learners. They pursue advanced degrees and other professional development opportunities because they care deeply about their craft and always put students at the center of their pursuits.
“In my independent school leadership M.Ed. program, I met more than a dozen faculty from independent schools in different geographical regions serving different types of students. That diversity of perspectives gave me countless ideas and techniques that make my teaching at Govs more active, engaging, and student driven.”

THE ELAINE WHITE ENDOWED FUND FOR FACULTY INNOVATION “My favorite moments with faculty are when they ask about trying something new,” says Elaine White P’16,’21, the Academy’s beloved former assistant head of school and academic dean. “I love to say yes and fund it, even if we aren’t so certain about how it will work out. I want to fuel their desire to inspire.” That spirit led a group of leadership donors to establish the Elaine White Endowed Fund for Faculty Innovation. The fund supports Governor’s faculty in a range of activities, from developing new elective courses to learning new teaching methods to collaborating with professionals off campus. The Elaine White Endowed Fund for Faculty Innovation is an example of alumni, parents, employees, and friends honoring our faculty’s desire to deliver an excellent academic experience by bringing innovative teaching practices into their classrooms.
