Set a good foundation by teaching gratitude and personal responsibility at home. The thought of raising a brat of a child can bring panic and anxiety to any parent. It’s an especially overwhelming thought if you don’t have the proper tools on hand to teach your child how to be a kind person. Sometimes we don’t even know what we are doing wrong.

Thomas Lickona, Ph.D., developmental psychologist and author of How to Raise Kind Kids, says “The most common mistakes parents make in childrearing is not exercising moral authority with confidence, constantly making kids happy by sparing them from disappointment and not being intentional in creating a positive family culture.” Kids who do respect their parents’ moral authority create a foundation for moral development later in life, Thomas says. Develop a positive family culture.
Creating a family mission statement gives your children a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. He suggests sitting down together and discussing your family’s core values and virtues. Having a family charter sets a tone of how the family should behave and will give children moral clarity in why and what the family believes.

Become a character coach. In order to raise a kind person, you need to be a kind person. Model good behavior and teach them the responsibility to care for others. Instill good virtues, such as kindness, respect and self-control. Keep constant contact. The responsibility of raising children well falls on parents’ shoulders. Stay in touch by holding regular family meetings to discuss anything that may be exciting or troubling in their lives.
Value hard work. Our kids learn all their habits, good and bad, from
what happens at home. Continuously trying to appease and not disappoint them can turn our kids into self-absorbed meanies. A good way to avoid these feelings of entitlement is to make the kids part of the household team. Thomas suggests giving them responsibilities and chores to do within their abilities and hold them accountable when they don’t meet expectations.
Make gratitude the right attitude. Teaching good gratitude practices, such as using a gratitude journal or counting your blessings, can shift your child’s focus from what they have instead of what they don’t have.

Don’t neglect the most important person in your life
Do you know that you’re very special? There is no other person in this world like you. You deserve to be loved not only by those around you but by the most important person in your life — YOU. Practicing self-love can be challenging for many of Is, especially in times when we face serious challenges. It’s not about being self-absorbed, it’s about getting in touch with ourselves our well-being and our happiness. Do yourself a favor, take a deep breath, give yourself a little hug and start practicing the following: 1. Start each day by telling yourself something really positive. How well you handled a situation, how lovely you look today. Anything that will make you smile. 2. Fill your body with food and drink that nourishes it and makes it thrive. 3. Move that gorgeous body of yours every single day and learn to love the skin you’re in. You can’t hate your way into loving yourself. 4. Don’t believe everything you think. There is an inner critic inside of us trying to keep us small and safe. The downside is this also stops us from living a full life. 5. Surround yourself with people who love and encourage you. Let them remind you just how amazing you are. 6. Stop the comparisons. There is no one on this planet like you, so you cannot fairly compare yourself to someone else. The only person you should compare yourself to is you. 7. End all toxic relationships.

Festive and ELDERBERRY FIZZ healthy beverages for chilly days Ingredients
1/4 cup elderberry syrup (substitute 100 percent elderberry juice for a less-sweet option) 1/2 lime, cut into 4 slices 8 oz. chilled sparkling water or sparkling fruit juice Directions Pour 2 tablespoons elderberry syrup or juice into each glass. Squeeze a slice of lime into each and fill with sparkling water or sparkling fruit juice. Garnish with remaining lime slices. Suggested spirit: Substitute sparkling wine for the sparkling water or fruit juice.
Ingredients 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh thyme leaves, loosely packed 1/2 cup boiling water 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional) 3 clementines, juiced, seeds removed 2 clementine-peel curls, for garnish 2 sprigs fresh thyme, for garnish
Directions In a small bowl, pour boiling water over the thyme and cayenne (if using) and steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain and discard the solids, then chill the tea. Here’s how to perform the Military Method of falling asleep: Step 1: Start by relaxing the muscles of your face, including those within your mouth.
Step 2: Lower your shoulders and let your hands go limp, falling beside your body, releasing tension in these areas. Step 3: Relax your chest as you breathe out deeply.
Step 4: Relax your lower body – the thighs, legs, and calves.
The Military Method This rather impressive method of getting to sleep claims to allow individuals to fall asleep very quickly, within just a total of 120 seconds. It was created as a routine for pilots in the United States Navy Pre-Flight School. The Military Method can take 6 weeks to perfect. But once you do, it will effectively put you to sleep even with very loud noises in the background or after a heavy dose of caffeine! It’s also said to work for those trying to sleep while sitting.
Step 5: Empty your mind over the course of 10 seconds, clearing it by going to your happy place or envisioning something relaxing. If unable to do so, you can also repeatedly “say” the words “don’t think” to yourself again and again.
Step 6: That’s it; you should be snoozing in a mere 10 seconds, but keep doing this until you do fall asleep.
The act of visualizing a calm place can help manage the thoughts you experience that could keep you awake, and it’s even been found to have positive results for those with insomnia. Combined with careful breathing and muscle relaxation, you’ll be asleep in no time!
