The Grand Season family 3 FAM/GLEN/PEO

EDITOR’S

NOTE

It’s hard to believe March is here! If your family has been anything like mine, you’ve been fighting colds and the crud for a few weeks. I hope you’re able to get out this monthand experience the beautiful weather, catch a Spring Training game and enjoy spring break with your kids. This month’s issue of The Grand Season Family is about growth. I’ve been thinking a lot about how much my life has changed since I launched into adulthood so many years ago. As I pondered the events which brought about the most change, it’s no surprise my children have been the greatest growth agents in my life. As we’ve traveled on our journey, their perspectives and questions about love, life and their future have challenged me to continually revisit my approach to life.

I think FEAR is the biggest obstacle that keeps me from experiencing growth in my life. It takes courage to cross into unexplored territory. My goal for this month’s issue is to inspire you to reflect on how you can grow to experience a more vibrant life. Thank you for your support of The Grand Season Family and our advertisers. If you know of a new or existing business looking for growth, I’d appreciate if you’d share our publication with them. Embrace your journey! Melissa McCullough Associate Publisher/ Editor

CLEAN

WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK Cleaning tips you will love

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Americans spend nearly 40 minutes a day cleaning their homes. Fortunately, you can reclaim those precious minutes with these genius cleaning tips. Get ready to have your home looking spotless in half the time!

Eliminate upholstery stains with shaving cream.

There’s no need to hire an expensive professional to get those stains out of your upholstery. Instead, rub a little bit of shaving cream (anything but the gel kind) into the stain, let it sit for 30 minutes or overnight, and then blot it dry.

Sweep your baseboards with a dryer sheet.

Attach a dryer sheet to your Swiffer in place of a microfiber cloth and you’ll pick up all that unwanted dust while simultaneously lending a sweet scent to your home.

Disinfect your sponges in the microwave.

Slightly dampen your sponge, pop it in the microwave for 90 seconds on full power, and you’ll reduce the amount of bacterial contamination on it by up to 99 percent.

Freshen up your mattress with baking soda.

At least once a month, just vacuum your mattress and apply an ample sprinkling of baking soda. Let the baking soda sit for a few hours to absorb any odors, vacuum again.

Clean your vents with Turtle Wax.

Though they often go ignored during the cleaning process, your vents accumulate a surprising amount of dust and debris, especially during the summer and winter when they’re most in use. But all you need to get them looking good as new is a little bit of Turtle Wax.

Use dryer sheets to clean your pans.

Simply put your dirty pan or sheet in the sink with a little dish soap, warm water, and a dryer sheet, and let the combo sit for an hour or two. When you’re ready to pour out the water, the mess will easily wipe away.

Scrub the bathtub clean with grapefruit and salt.

Just cut the fruit open, and cover it in salt. The salt creates an abrasive texture while the citric acid in the grapefruit will help break down stains.

YOU

WHO ARE YOU?

To truly know yourself is the most important skill you can ever possess. When you know who you are, you know what you need to do. Instead of looking for permission from others – you already know what you ought to do. So how can you know who you are and what you should do in life? Here are some steps you can take in order to know your true self:

1. Be quiet. You cannot and will not be able to know yourself until you take the time to be still. Many people don’t know themselves, because any sort of silence scares them; it’s too uncomfortable to be alone with every flaw staring back at them. But it isn’t until you get alone, evaluate yourself, and are completely truthful with yourself that you will actually be able to see every facet of your life—the good and the bad.

2. Realize who you truly are, not who you want to be. I know you already have a set idea of who you desperately want to be, but it might not be who you were designed to be. This is why knowing who you really are is so important. When you know who you are, you will finally see where you and your specific gifts fit into the bigger picture.

3. Find what you are good at (and not good at). This might be the most difficult step in the process. But it’s a necessary one. Sure, it takes trial and error to find what you’re good at, and no, I don’t want you to give up when you start, but knowing when to quit is a gift that everyone needs to learn.

4. Ask for feedback. If you don’t know yourself, hearing what those who are close to you have to say is a helpful practice. Ask them two simple questions: “What strengths do you think I need to develop further?” and “What weaknesses do you think I need to work on?” Of course, their opinion isn’t going to be perfect, but their feedback will probably indicate a few areas you should at least take a second look at.

5. Assess your relationships. A large aspect of knowing yourself can be found in your relationships. When you realize you’ll never truly know anyone else until you discover yourself, the importance of knowing yourself becomes even more apparent. Use your reflections to fight your biggest fears. Because when you understand who you are meant to be, your purpose will become bigger than your fears. For Advertising Information Call (623) 594-1630

LOVE

HELP!

Are you and your spouse on the same page?

If you and a partner are experiencing difficulties, it may be time to consider bringing in a professional marriage counselor to help you both resolve issues and find some common ground to stand on once more. The goal of marriage counseling is to give you and your partner the tools needed for better communication, improved negotiation, and the ability to argue and problem-solve more healthily. Here are some common reasons you may want to seek counseling:

1

YOUR PARTNER IS NOT LISTENING In the heat of an argument, it can be easy to focus on what you need to say next, rather than validating your partner’s thoughts and feelings. A marriage counselor can act as a mediator when there are breakdowns in communication, and help both of you develop better listening skills to make sure concerns are heard, aired, and dealt with.

2

YOU KEEP GOING AROUND THE MOUNTAIN

Couples have fundamental differences about life, love, and relationships. You and your partner might be going around and around the same mountain, stuck on an issue you can’t resolve. Every time you revisit it, it seems to get more heated and more hopeless in terms of a resolution.

3

YOU START TO SEEK SUPPORT FROM OTHERS

For better, for worse. You made a vow to your spouse to lean on one another, and to see each other through tough times. When you don’t feel that your partner is supportive of you anymore, it can be difficult to turn to them in times of need. If you find yourself seeking outside or different sources of support, or become emotionally attached to others as a means of desiring that connection once more, it’s time to take a good hard look at your relationship.

4

YOU ARE ALWAYS FIGHTING

If you can’t seem to see eye to eye on anything, and the smallest things become big issues as the two of you lock horns, it’s time to seek professional help.

5

YOU NEVER, EVER FIGHT

On the other hand, not being invested in your relationship means that you don’t care enough to fight. This lack of conflict can be more problematic than constant fighting, for it’s an indicator that you have lost interest in the relationship. Apathy is a true enemy of passion, and your marriage will not survive unless the two of you are a little invested.

YOU FACE INTIMACY ISSUES

Intimacy is more important than most couples think. Indeed, it can be the glue that holds the two of you together during tough times. Sure, all couples go through occasional dry spells, but if you are sleeping alone for extended periods (for reasons other than medical issues), this is a signal that some attention needs to be placed on your relationship.

TRAVEL

GET-A-WAY

Book a quick trip, or book a staycation!

Sometimes you just need to get out of town, and you really can take a last-minute trip without paying premium prices. But if you just need a break from the office and don’t want the hassle of travel, there’s always another way to go: home! Use these tips for saving big on a last-minute booking or creating a fabulous “staycation.”

Troll the travel websites

Sites such as Expedia.com, Priceline. com, and Travelocity.com are treasure troves for last-minute travelers. A few clicks will provide you with the latest transportation and accommodation availability, as well as deals on bundled packages and allinclusive vacations.

Register for last-minute travel e-mail blasts

Those same travel websites, and most airlines, offer weekly e-mail newsletters that include up-to-the-minute deals on flights, cruises, hotels, and more. If you’re flexible about where and when you travel, finding a great deal to an exciting destination can be as easy as checking your inbox.

Play tourist

Since Phoenix has experienced tremendous growth, surely you haven’t done everything there is to do around town. Check out the latest gallery opening, grab tickets to a matinee, hop on a tour bus, or take a trip to your local historical centers. You’ll see the Valley of the Sun from a whole new perspective.

Don’t check e-mails

Set an out-of-office reply or a vacation message on your work and personal e-mail accounts and don’t peek until you “return” from your vacation.

Don’t tackle your to-dos

It’s easy to think that your time spent at home can be used to reorganize, clean, and do a few home improvements, but a vacation is no time to do extra work. If you were on an actual vacation, would you be upset that your floors at home weren’t being scrubbed? No way! Let things around the house stay as they are. Or, for a real treat, hire a cleaning service to come spruce the place up when you’re out exploring the city.

Order in

Hate to cook? Then don’t do it. It’s rare that you would be cooking your own food if you were out of town, so enjoy the benefits of ordering in or grabbing your favorite take-out.

Turn off your phone

Pretend that you’re half a world away with little access to your phone. Leave a voicemail that says you’re on vacation and will only be checking messages when you get the chance. Forgetting about your phone will keep you focused on your main goal-relaxation.

HEALTH

SICK & TIRED Tips for improved health

Four in 10 adults in the U.S. have two or more chronic diseases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While certain conditions and risk factors are beyond one’s control, there is no shortage of lifestyle choices you can make for improved health. If you’re looking to improve your health, try using these tips: • Be more physically active. Adults should do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity, or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity. • Reduce your intake of processed foods, especially those with added sodium and sugar. Eat less red meat and processed meats, and add more plant-based foods, such as olive oil, nuts and seeds to your diet. Also reduce your consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and drink more water instead. • If your health care professional determines you need antibiotics, take them exactly For Advertising Information Call (623) 594-1630

as prescribed. Antibiotic resistance is a serious public health problem and antibiotics will not make you feel better if you have a virus, such as a cold or flu. • If consuming alcohol, do so in moderation as defined by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans—up to one drink daily for women and two drinks daily for men, and only by adults of legal drinking age. • Pain medication is personal. If you’re taking prescription opioids or other medications, follow your doctor’s instructions. Store them safely to prevent misuse and properly dispose of any leftover medication. • Manage stress. A good diet, sufficient sleep (at least 7.5 hours per night), daily exercise, and wellness activities, like yoga and meditation, are key ingredients to maintaining and improving your mental health, but don’t hesitate to ask for help from a professional when you need it. MONEY

LET’S TALK

Clinical psychologists note that when kids don’t have enough information about something, they may become anxious, make up their own explanations—which can include blaming themselves for a perceived problem—or seek information from other, potentially unreliable sources. Experts recommend talking to your children about financial concerns, keeping in mind that the level of detail shared should be based on your child’s age.

Preschool and Elementary Age Experts suggest limiting financial discussion with very young

children to the basics. If the economy is struggling, you might tell them that this can happen when businesses spend more money then they have.

You might also explain that when money is tighter, they may need to wait a little longer to get certain items such as new toys. Psychologists emphasize the need to be honest, but reassuring. Letting children know that tough financial times are only temporary and that you will always provide them with the things they need.

How to talk to your kids about tough money matters “Tweens” and Teens Children in this age group are old enough for you to explain what financial terms mean, and why the economy doesn’t always perform well. You might also provide an overview of how credit works, introducing terms such as interest, risk and liability. You should also engage your kids in family budget decisions, particularly if you feel you’re in a financial pinch. If they want to go on a vacation or buy that new video game system, ask for their ideas on how to save up the money. If you can’t afford to eat out as often, let them pick a favorite restaurant for a special monthly or quarterly meal.

College Kids Experts say that at this age, families should be open and straightforward when discussing finances. In addition to helping college-age kids understand a change in the economy or other financial developments, explain what it could mean for your family’s financial situation and how it could impact them.

16

Tell them how you’ve been spending and saving, describe the struggles you’ve faced, and outline the steps you’re taking to to shore up finances. You can also help them build their own budget and savings plans. Being honest about financial mistakes you’ve made can help your children avoid them in the future. The Grand Season family

OUTDOORS

CAMPING

The weather is just about perfect to start planning your first camping trip of the year. Here are some tips to help, if you run into unexpected problems:

Enhance your camping experience

MAKE A DIY LANTERN

Forgot a big lantern? If you have a small wearable headlamp, use its strap to tie it to the side of a clear jug or water bottle, shining inward—the water will diffuse the light like a lantern. No headlamp? Strap up your cellphone with its light on.

LINE YOUR BACKPACK

If there’s rain in the forecast, open a garbage bag inside your pack, and stuff your sleeping bag and clothes inside that to keep them dry.

A WARM SHOWER

Fill a garbage bag with water in the morning, then hang it from a tree branch. The afternoon sun will warm the water; in the evening you can stab holes in the bag with a stick to rinse off.

CARRY EGGS SAFELY

Just crack them into a water bottle before you leave home, then shake and cook for scrambled eggs.

MAKE A CAMP KITCHEN

Tie your belt around a tree at head level to hang up pots and pans.

DON’T GET COLD FEET

Fill a bottle with warm water and put inside a pair of socks, and drop in your sleeping bag before dinner. At bedtime put on the socks and hop in your bag with the warm water bottle. The Pinnacle of Quality

PREVENT RUST

Save those “Do Not Eat” silica gel packs and store them in your cookware between trips to fight rust.

ALWAYS HAVE A PILLOW

No, don’t bring a pillow—that takes up too much space! Just stuff extra clothes inside a t-shirt to use it as a pillow at night.

CAMP FOR FREE

If grandpa could camp without pricey gear, so can you! No tent? Throw a tarp over rope between trees. No sleeping pad? Use your yoga mat.

KIDS

SCREEN TIME What research says you can do

Screen time is a hot topic for parents and researchers alike. While digital devices are the norm, and children can certainly use them to their benefit, parents can also help children learn healthy digital habits. Researchers are still evaluating the long-term impact of devices on kids. Here’s what’s known so far, and what you as a parent can do about it.

Devices Before Bed = No Sleep

Screen time linked to depression and anxiety According to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics, kids who spend a lot of time in front of screens are at a greater risk for emotional issues and low self-esteem. This is in part because the more time kids are spending in front of screens, the less time they’re spending doing healthy activities like socializing or being active.

The fix: Distract kids with fun, thought-provoking

It’s undisputed: when it comes to bedtime, devices are a big no-no. According to Hoag Medical Group, devices are known to emit a specific light wavelength that messes with sleep patterns. Doctors recommend that kids don’t use devices for at least one hour before bed.

alternatives. Whether it’s a trip to the playground, board games or fort-building, putting screens away gives children’s imaginations time to flourish.

The fix: At night, stick to the basics. Read to your

Every parent knows the struggle of limiting device use. Handing a tablet over is easy enough, but getting it back? That’s when the struggle begins. According to research, giving kids a warning that screen time is coming to an end increases the chances that kids will fight back and defy their limitation.

children or tell them a bedtime story. When they’re old enough to read to themselves, encourage them to stick with the habit of curling up with a good book before light’s out.

Verbal ‘warnings’ do more harm than good

The fix: Setting clear limits on tech use is not just

important, it’s essential. New technology can help you do so much more seamlessly than an idle warning. Think about installing an app that doesn’t lead kids into the next level of a game, or gives parents control over kids’ devices remotely. One such tool is a parental control app called OurPact. To start, parents sign up for a free account. After pairing their child’s devices, they’re able to manage them remotely through at-a-touch blocking or automated schedules. It’s great for setting bedtime schedules, ensuring devices don’t cause homework distractions. It works on Wi-Fi and all cellular connections, meaning you can manage access whether you’re at the grocery store or at home. To learn more or download, visit OurPact.com. And of course, open the lines of communication about device use with your kids early on, and keep the dialogue going. Explain why screen time rules are important and set a good example. If you don’t want your kid to look at their device in the middle of a conversation, hold yourself to the same rule.

LIFE HACKS

BLOOD WISER Beat mosquitoes

Air Conditioning • Electrical • Plumbing • Water Treatment

Reverse Osmosis System Tune-Up Few things can spoil a backyard barbecue or afternoon picnic as effectively as these relentless bloodsuckers. And citronella candles, as nice as they smell, usually don’t help much. But there are just about as many hack remedies out there as there are stories about how they don’t work. Wearing long sleeves and pants and spraying them with DEET is a sure-fire, but backyard-unfriendly method. Here are a few ideas suggested by researchers—test them to see which one is most effective for you. 1. USE A FAN: For all that buzzing in your ears, mosquitoes are actually very weak fliers—If you can set up a couple of fans outside, you’ll make it difficult for them to maneuver around you. 2. SMOKE THEM OUT WITH SAGE: This remedy actually has little to do with the sage and much more to do with the fact that mosquitoes don’t like smoke. A campfire will deter many mosquitoes; if a fading fire isn’t working as well, toss a few leaves or pine straw into the flames to make a small cloud of extra smoke. 3. MAKE A DIY MOSQUITO TRAP: Pour a little bit of fragrant olive oil into a bowl and roll it around to lightly coat the inside, then put it on the table—mosquitoes will be attracted to the oil, land, and get trapped.

FACTS

Astronauts cannot burp in space. There is no gravity to separate liquid from gas in their stomachs. They also can’t cry, because without gravity their tears can’t flow. The first color photograph was taken in 1861 by British physicist James Maxwell.

Nail polish is considered to have been invented in China about 3,000 B.C. It was made of egg whites, beeswax, colored powder and gum Arabic. “Titanic” is the only movie to be available both in theaters and on VHS at the same time.

STRANGE BUT

TRUE

At any given time, 0.7% of the world is drunk. Ever notice how the taste of artificial banana flavoring and artificial bananaflavored products doesn’t greatly resemble the real thing? That’s because it’s based on a type of banana that was wiped out by a plague in the 1950s. There are more possible iterations of a chess match than there are atoms in the known universe.

The gastric acid in your stomach is so powerful that it is able to eat away an iron table in about 5 minutes. The only chemical element that is not a solid at a temperature of absolute zero is helium; it remains a liquid. If you look at a list of the names of the 50 states, you’ll find every letter of the alphabet except Q. For reasons unknown, a law in New Jersey forbids the sale of cabbage on Sunday.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the most dangerous device that is common in the modern world is the automobile. You might be surprised to learn, though, that the second most dangerous is the stair step. Belmont University once offered a course entitled “Oh, Look, a Chicken! Embracing Distraction as a Way of Knowing.” Most parents of small children know that trampolines can be dangerous, and they are. Every year, nearly 100,000 people receive emergencyroom treatment for injuries sustained while using trampolines. Those injuries are hardly ever fatal, though. Pools, on the other hand, are far more deadly; more than 1,000 people in the United States die in swimming pools annually.

HOME The process of selling your home can be frustrating, because you often have to fix all of the things you don’t like to make the house attractive to others. Often when you’re on a budget, it’s easy to skip the big items—like painting your house. Experts say that is a mistake. Here’s what they say painting can do for you.

ASKING PRICE

Color can ratchet up the price.

An effective use of color on the exterior of your home can add thousands of dollars to its value, says James Martin, who has been hired by landlords and real estate developers to increase the market value of their properties or improve occupancy rates in their buildings with eye-catching color schemes.

A fresh coat of paint could help you get exactly what you want.

US Veteran Owned

Perception of color is relative.

on each security door & window

SECURITY DOOR & WINDOW SPECIALS

If you put a mid-value color, such as tan, next to pure white, it will look beige. But if you put it next to dark green, it will look off-white. Keep this in mind when choosing colors. And when you are choosing a color from a fan deck at the paint store, you should mask off the colors next to it with a white sheet of paper.

Begin with the value.

Design your color scheme first according to value. That is, decide whether you want a dark, medium, or light main color.

Highlight detail carefully.

Create a balanced effect between the top and bottom of your home. For instance, if there is a lot of detail on the top of your home, you will need to create detail and interest on the bottom. Talison

Put darker colors toward the bottom of the house to avoid creating an “uncomfortable, top-heavy feel,” says Martin.

Choose colors in the right light. Pick colors outside in natural light on a cloudy day or in open shade. Bright light creates glare, and can distort your perception of the color.

Be material-minded.

Make sure the paint colors you choose complement the colors of the other materials of your home, such as the roof, brick, stone, or stucco.

Brighten things up.

AAA SENIOR PLACEMENT AZ A Message from Sue Royer “I was born and raised in inner city Chicago, the sixth of eighteen children with fifteen brothers. Being the oldest daughter, I was always a caregiver which I believe influenced me to pursue work in the healthcare industry. Today, I have three daughters and five grandchildren. Years ago, I volunteered for hospice and knew immediately that helping seniors was my calling. I was soon employed by hospice but I felt something was missing. I realized it was the limited time I was able to spend with my clients. Having my own business allows me to provide the intimate hands on service needed in our community. I am committed to our seniors throughout their lives and I thank the community for the opportunity to serve.” Sue Royer Director

ADULTING

HOT PROSPECTS Skills to help your 20 something learn

So, your 20 something is freaking out about getting older. Rather than listen to the same old ideas over and over, share this article with them. It’s a tip sheet of goals for them to accomplish before they’re 25.

2. Get a party trick

SKILLS TO MASTERS

3. Make networking matter

1. Sell yourself

Even if you aren’t working in sales and never want to, much of business success boils down to sales of one kind or another. Remember that you will have to present yourself as an asset, and hot commodity many times in your career; how is this anything but sales pitch?

32

The Grand Season family

Figure out one thing that you are good at—or would like to be. And don’t just get good at it. Get really good at it. If it’s your job, so much the better. But if it’s a hobby, you never know; that could turn into a back-up plan someday. It’s not just a matter of how many contacts you have, but how many of those contacts would be willing to go to bat for you. Don’t just meet people, prove your value to them. That way you’ll have a network of advocates, not just a network of profile links on social media.

4. Learn coding

Even if you don’t see yourself as a computer person. Coding has become as common as reading and writing as far as skills go in the new economy. Learn it while you’re young, and you’ll thank yourself later.

March 2020

5. Invest your leisure time

Instead of that one extra episode of Outlander, try spending the time you have on your own development. Take a seminar, volunteer, learn a dance, read a book, exercise. Spend a good portion of your free time on personal improvement and development.

6. Quit worrying

Worrying changes nothing. Concentrate on finding solutions to problems when solutions are possible. And try to let go of the rest. Do your part, and do it well, then try to be calm about outcomes you cannot control.

7. Save your cash

Start saving money. That one extra trendy outfit, or night out at the club will not be worth it in the long run, when that money could be put to better use. Remember, compound interest can make you a millionaire in twenty years. Put away a small, but consistent amount of money every month.

GROWTH

PURPOSE DRIVEN

What direction are you going?

People think they will feel fulfilled when they check off their list: getting married, having kids, buying a certain house, getting a boat, reaching a certain title or profit level in their business, but happiness doesn’t come from money and success. What truly moves you, and how can you turn that passion into a fulfilling mission in life? Everyone’s different, so here are some common strategies that can lead you to your unique goal. Start by asking yourself these key questions:

1. As a child and back in your younger days, what experiences were the most memorable?

What pastimes did you find most fulfilling? Make a list of everything that gave you pleasure as a kid and teenager. Maybe it was playing basketball or guitar. Start small and resume those activities. Then, once you rediscover that passion, look for a way to use it to help others. Maybe you can volunteer to coach a basketball league for underprivileged kids.

2. What are my core values and beliefs?

It sounds like a simple question, but it’s far from it. You can accept certain values, because you’ve been taught they’re important, but sometimes they don’t work for you. Start by making a list of values you think are important. They may include everything from integrity to friendship, faith to humor, patience to spontaneity. Then rank each on a scale of 1 to 10. All values are good, but understanding which are most important to you will help you understand what will give your life meaning.

3. What goals should I set for myself?

Take stock of each segment of your life, and write down what you visualize as the ultimate goal in each area. Include your career, family, health, relationships, spirituality and travel desires. Ask yourself: What would my best health look like? Who are the people I most want to spend time with? What do I most want to change? If you don’t understand and set your own goals, you will end up living someone else’s.

4. What do I want my legacy to be?

The ultimate question for anyone considering how to make a greater contribution to his or her world: How do I want to be remembered by those whose lives I touch? A simple way to get to this answer is to write your own obituary. Sometimes referred to as an “autobituary,” it’s a chance for reflection that also forces you to realize that your time is limited and to take a hard look at the way you’re spending it.

Loosen a stuck ring by putting a little bit of butter on your finger to help it slide.

A squirt of shaving cream can help release latex paint specks on your hands from using a roller brush. Just rub over hands and rinse. Baked apples (or stuffed peppers) will stay perfectly upright if you set them into the wells of a muffin tin.

Spray a thread end with hairspray to keep it stiff for threading. If you don’t have hairspray, a touch of hair gel works as well. If you are looking for a natural air freshener, try boiling a couple of cups of vinegar and let it simmer for 10 minutes. At first, the vinegar will smell, but then it will disappear and your room will be fresh.

Use your vegetable peeler to make strips of butter if it’s cold and you need to spread it on bread. The strips’ large amount of surface area help the butter to soften quickly, making it easy to spread. Make your own bath oil by mixing a couple of drops of your favorite perfume with a bit of baby oil. Just rub on post-bath or add to your bathwater.

Get king-size pillowcases from a thrift store to cover a diaper changing pad. They are the right size and cheap. Lightly spoon flour into your measuring cup. Never pack it down or tap the cup to level. Simply fill and then use the flat edge of a knife to remove the excess back to the original container.

BEVERAGE CLUB

Celebrate St. Patrick’s day with these unique drinks

Shamrock Sour Cocktail Ingredients 2 tablespoons lime juice ½ tablespoon lemon juice ¼ c. simple syrup 2 oz. Irish whiskey 1 tiny drop of green food coloring lime wedges for garnish

Instructions Combine ingredients and shake well; strain over ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and a shamrock stirrer. To avoid your drink becoming too green, you can dab an extra wooden skewer into the green food coloring and then stir that into your drink to better control the amount of color.

Pickleback Jell-O Shots

Make pickle shot glasses: Cut off the ends of each pickle so that both ends are flat, then cut each pickle in half crosswise. Using a quarter teaspoon, scoop out the middle of each pickle to create a well. Carefully pour whiskey mixture into each pickle then sprinkle dill on top. Refrigerate until jello is set, about 2 hours.
