Tips for reducing that annoying discomfort
Go low impact You don’t need to put tremendous weight on your joints or jump up and down in order to break a sweat or elevate your heartrate. When you’re already in pain, this type of exercise can actually make things worse. Instead, opt for high-quality, low-impact workouts.
The health benefits of regular exercise are undeniable, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends 30 minutes of exercise at least five times per week. High-impact exercises like running and weight training, however, can lead to joint pain, especially if you have a joint condition. The good news is that smart exercises with low impact can alleviate joint pain and deliver the same health benefits.
Hydrate It may seem obvious, but ensuring that you drink the recommended daily intake of water is vital to reducing pain in your joints. Proper hydration helps your body eliminate wastes and toxins that can lead to painful joint conditions. Plus, it helps to keep the joints lubricated and flexible, reducing friction and inflammation and helping to maintain healthy tissue.
Here are a few tips to consider for a healthy start to 2020.
Stretch daily Stretching increases flexibility and range of motion, improves movement and function, reduces pain and stiffness and prevents further injury. Just remember to move slowly and keep it gentle.
Keep moving Trying to protect your joints by not moving actually does more harm than good. Regular exercise can actually help joint pain and ease symptoms of chronic joint conditions, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Just be sure to talk to your doctor about your exercise plan before you get started.
At the very least, spend a good five to 10 minutes in the morning stretching your hamstrings, quadriceps, calf muscles and hip flexors. Your body will thank you for it in the future.

Did you get your flu shot this year? Even though it’s no longer the beginning of the flu season, it’s never too late to get your shot. At this point, we’re only in the middle of an elevated-level flu season with months still to go.
Seniors get the flu from others, often by breathing air that has the virus in it from someone’s sneeze or cough. Germs can stay airborne for several hours or linger on hard surfaces someone has touched for 24 hours. Some of the ways of protecting yourself are so simple you have no excuse for not following them.
Flu hits seniors harder than any other demographic. More of us end up hospitalized and with complications if we get the flu. At least 70% of deaths from flu are seniors. There’s a special shot for seniors with three types of vaccine at four times the strength. The shot contains two A virus strains and one B. According to a local pharmacist, the decision makers anticipate which of the three strains will be the strongest each year and they go with those in order to cut costs. Wouldn’t it be safer to include all four?

For those who are overwhelmed by their clutter, here are some great ways to get started, five minutes at a time.
Dinner theater—Interactive murder mystery-type dinner shows have become very popular. Good food, lively entertainment, and fun. A perfect date combination.
Designate a spot for incoming papers Papers often account for a lot of our clutter. This is because we put them in different spots. Designate an in-box tray or spot in your home and don’t put down papers anywhere but that spot.
Visit the aquarium—Aquariums aren’t just for schoolchildren, they’re also a great place for a date. Take a leisurely stroll while you survey the sea life.
Start clearing a starting zone What you want to do is clear one area. This is your no-clutter zone. It can be a counter, or your kitchen table, or the three-foot perimeter around your couch. Wherever you start, make a rule: nothing can be placed there that’s not actually in use. Everything must be put away. Once you have that clutter-free zone, keep it that way! Each day slowly expand your no-clutter zone until it envelopes the whole house! Clear off a counter You want to get your house so that all flat spaces are clear of clutter. Maybe they have a toaster on them, maybe a decorative candle, but not a lot of clutter. So start with one counter. Clear off everything possible, except maybe one or two essential things. Pick a shelf Now that you’ve done a counter, try a shelf. It doesn’t matter what shelf. It could be a shelf in a closet, or on a bookshelf. Don’t tackle the whole bookshelf— just one shelf. Clear all non-essential things and leave it looking neat and clutter-free. Pick up 5 things and find places for them These should be things that you actually use, but that you just seem to put anywhere, because they don’t have good places. If you don’t know exactly where things belong, you have to designate a good spot. Do this for everything in your home, a few things at a time. Momentum is a friend of clutter reduction.

In its simplest form, loving yourself comes down to consistently carrying out actions that feel aligned with your core beliefs. Move often When you move you allow the various forms of energy in our body the space to shift around. If you spend all day sitting in front of a computer (or TV), then your creative, emotional, sexual energies tend to get trapped in your body. So instead of sitting in an office chair or couch, get up and move as often as you can. Limit the junk your brain consumes Just like your body feels grumpy if you feed it awful things consistently, so too does your mood suffer when you feed your mind garbage. Seek to fill your time with positive entertainment, and delete the continual feed of negativity.
Invest in your sleep You spend roughly a third of your life sleeping, so you might as well get good at it. The way we sleep can either deprive us and deplete us, or it can energize and uplift us. Make the most of the opportunity. Be intentional in how you spend your time Enforce real boundaries in your life so that you carve out enough time for the things that matter the most to you. Say no to people you don’t like spending time with. Spend time with your favorite people on a regular basis. Carve out time in your calendar to make time for fun, lightness and playfulness. Make time for rest and relaxation Between all of your healthy meals, optimized sleep habits, and playfulness, you want to make sure you’re also allowing yourself the time and space to breathe and relax. Take naps when you feel like it. Rest and relaxation are vital to loving yourself. Spend time alone As contradictory as it sounds, one of the best ways that you can cultivate a loving relationship with yourself is to regularly spend some time alone, regardless of whether you’re single, in a relationship or married.

You’ll be surprised by what you can experience without crowds, while enjoying a slower pace. It does mean deals and discounts. Huge tourist destinations are the best bet for sharp discounts in the off-season because these economies are completely dependent on tourist income as opposed to businesstravel income. To say Maui was stunning would be an understatement. We visited Mt. Haleakala, a dormant volcano, which rises 10,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. February 10, 1957 Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the best-selling “Little House” series of children’s novels, dies at age 90 in Missouri. In 1932, Wilder, then in her 60s, published her first novel, Little House in the Big Woods. February 11, 1990 Nelson Mandela, leader of the movement to end South African apartheid, is released after serving 27 years in jail. Mandela retired from politics in 1999, but remained a global advocate for peace and social justice until his death in December 2013. February 12, 1972 The release of American POWs begins in Hanoi as part of the Paris peace settlement. The first 20
of 591 U.S. POWs arrived to a hero’s welcome at Travis AFB in California. February 13, 1915 The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is founded to “assure that music creators are fairly compensated for the public performance of their works, and that their rights are properly protected.” February 14, 278 Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, is executed. Claudius banned all marriages and engagements in Rome so his army would be strong. Valentine defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. February 15, 1961

The entire 18-member U.S. figure skating team is killed in a plane crash in Belgium. The team was on its way to the 1961 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague. United States women’s figure skating champion Laurence Owen, 16, was featured on the Feb. 13, 1961, cover of Sports Illustrated. February 16, 1923 English archaeologist, Howard Carter, enters the sealed burial chamber of the ancient Egyptian ruler King Tutankhamen (King Tut). Because the ancient Egyptians saw their pharaohs as gods, they carefully preserved their bodies after death, burying them in elaborate tombs containing rich treasures to accompany the rulers into the afterlife. February 17, 1966 Brian Wilson rolls tape on “Good Vibrations,”

Six months, four studios and $50,000 later, he finally completed his three-minute-and-thirtynine-second symphony, pieced together from more than 90 hours of tape recorded during literally hundreds of sessions. February 18, 1885 Mark Twain (the pen name of Samuel Clemens) first introduced Huck Finn as the best friend of Tom Sawyer, hero of novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). Originally a commercial failure, the book ended up being the best selling of any of Twain’s works during his lifetime. February 19, 1847 On this day the first rescuers reach surviving members of the Donner Party, a group of California-bound emigrants stranded by snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
