USE YOUR WORDS Thankfulness doesn’t have to be unique to Thanksgiving Day. Gratitude is key to any successful marriage, and when you show your partner you’re thankful for them, they feel loved and appreciated. We all want to feel valued. This is foundational to a healthy, happy marriage.

You may wonder, how can I show my spouse gratitude? Here’s a few ideas:
Marriage is a partnership. One way to show appreciation to your spouse is to look for ways to be a giver and give without expecting anything in return. Do things for your spouse just because you care.

Two words, “thank you,” carry so much weight. Tell your spouse how much you appreciate them. Tell them often. Show appreciation for the small things as well as the big. Look for creative ways to show your gratitude for them. Write it, text it, or scream it from the rooftop.
2 Leave notes.
Nothing shows appreciation like a note. There are tons of opportunities for creativity here. Go old school and mail them a note. Utilize technology and send them a text or video. Leave a note on the bathroom mirror if you leave before they do. Find fun places to hide a handwritten note… in their lunch, their car, their underwear drawer—you know, get creative. There’s a reason the holidays are called the most wonderful time of the year. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with loved ones over delicious food and shared traditions. But hosting an event can sometimes feel more like a burden rather than a blessing. This year, keep your holiday gathering fun—not frantic—with these headache-free hosting tips.
Prepare for your event in advance.
Start your dinner or cocktail party prep as soon as possible to make room for any last-minute surprises, like forgetting an ingredient or unexpected guests. Develop a checklist and tackle manageable projects each day. This daily preparation will allow more time on the day of the event for you to enjoy your friends and family.
Allow others to contribute.
Whether you’re a foodie or not, just because you’re hosting a party, doesn’t mean you have to prepare all of the food. Perhaps you could plan on providing the main dish, and allow your guests to bring side dishes. Or, if you want to serve all of the food, don’t be afraid to purchase prepared food items from your grocery store. Researchers studying how being generous affects your life, found people with high levels of generosity reap all kinds of benefits. Here are some of the perks of being generous:
1. Greater satisfaction with life
Everyone wants to be happy in life, and according to the research, generosity appears to be a key ingredient: 74 percent of high-generosity respondents reported satisfaction with their lives, compared to 60 percent of low-generosity respondents. The high-generosity group was happier overall in every aspect of life, including friendships, family, romance, and finances.
2. More friends
Generosity certainly helps with your social life. Those who are highly generous reported having more friends who would be willing to do favors for them, such as: • Visiting them at the hospital • Helping them move • Driving them to or from the airport

3. Stronger relationships with the people they know Having a larger social circle wasn’t the only benefit of being generous. People high in generosity also tend to have deeper relationships with others, seeing as 66 percent of them felt close to the people they know.

Your outlook on life makes a huge difference in how happy you are. If you believe that what you’re doing matters, you’re probably going to enjoy your life much more. Eighty-one percent of highly generous people believe life is meaningful—that’s 21 percent more than those who are not so generous.
5. Better physical and mental health
Given that more generous people are happier and more positive, you may have already guessed that their mental health is in better shape. Highgenerosity people were less likely to feel a range of negative emotions, including hopelessness, depression, apathy, and anxiety. Also, those in the high-generosity group were more likely to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Research proves being generous can have a dramatic impact on your quality of life. It can make you happier, healthier and improve your relationships with others.

Generosity is the simple act of being kind and giving to others. Despite being an act that is done to benefit others, when you act generously it actually increases your own well-being. By being generous, and actively addressing the needs of those around us, we foster the feeling of being able to make a difference in the world. Generosity is also known to have a ripple effect. A recent study found that generosity and kindness impact up to three degrees of separation. In other words, when a person carries out an act of generosity, two more people are inspired or influenced to be generous. There are many ways to give; how you practice generosity will depend on your life circumstances. But the more you practice generosity, the more you will transform from a person who does generous things into being a generous person. Here are a few ideas on becoming more generous:
Practice gratitude
When we are thankful for and appreciative of the things we have in life, we are more likely to give freely. And since the more we give, the happier and more grateful we feel, it’s a mutually reinforcing cycle.
Learn to identify the needs of others
Learning to recognize other people’s needs requires paying close attention and learning to read between the lines. This is sometimes called empathic listening. It happens when you are able to evolve from taking in another person’s literal words to understanding what is being conveyed emotionally. It also involves not making assumptions about another person’s needs based on your own preferences, but learning to recognize what they need, independent of what you would want if you were in their situation.
Accept the generosity of others
Generosity is a two-way street. Some people have an easier time giving than receiving. For example, some people may feel vulnerable, unworthy, or less independent when they accept generosity. But when you deny or brush off someone’s generosity towards you, it robs them of the joy of giving. Learning to accept generosity can also help you become more empathetic and recognize the needs of others.
