Q: I am due to have a mammogram in July, but around the same time I am supposed to have a chest CT as a follow-up to my chondrosarcoma cancer. I have a CT every other year, and an X-ray on the opposite years of both my affected arm and my lungs. Does a chest CT have the potential of showing a similar finding as a mammogram? A: A mammogram is an X-ray that is designed specifically to look for abnormalities in breast tissue. Mammograms have been extensively studied and proven to reduce mortality in women ages 50-74 (outside these ages, there remains extreme controversy). CT scans are X-rays taken from many angles and then reconstructed in a computer to provide a look at many slices of the part of the body being looked at. A CT scanner can be set to emphasize bones or soft tissue, and work is ongoing now with CT scans designed specifically for breast abnormalities, so you still want both.

DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spread the oats in a single layer on a jelly-roll pan. Toast them 5 to 8 minutes or until golden brown, stirring once halfway INGREDIENTS through. Meanwhile, in a 4-quart saucepan, combine 1/2 c. old-fashioned oats the apples, pears, water, sugar, cinnamon, and ginger. 3 small Gala or Empire apples Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 2 medium pears 12 minutes or until sugar dissolves and fruit softens. 1 tbsp. water Remove from the heat and stir in the cranberries. 2 tsp. brown sugar Divide the mixture among 6 shallow 12- to 16-ounce 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon baking dishes. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, 1/2 tsp. ground ginger peanut butter, and flour. Rub the mixture between 1/2 c. dried cranberries your fingers to form small clumps then sprinkle it over chunky, sweetened peanut butter the fruit mixture in the baking dishes. Bake 15 to 20 3 tbsp. whole wheat flour minutes or until browned and bubbling. To serve, top 1/4 c. fat-free whipped cream each crisp with 1 tablespoon of whipped cream.

Exposure to smoke, wind and dry climates can increase tear evaporation resulting in dry eye symptoms. Failure to blink regularly, such as when staring at a computer screen for long periods of time, can also contribute to drying of the eyes.
Long-term use of contact lenses can be a factor in the development of dry eyes. Refractive eye surgeries, such as LASIK, can decrease tear production and contribute to dry eyes.

Do you appreciate your spouse every day? If you want your relationship to make it for the long haul, then you will learn that big gestures are nice, but it’s the little things that count. Nothing feels better after a long day than a back and neck rub. You can take turns massaging each other’s feet, necks, and backs. It’s an excellent way to release tension from stress and feel the loving touch of the one who holds your heart.
4. Listen and communicate.
The best thing that you can do for your spouse is to listen and effectively communicate with them. Don’t interrupt when they’re trying to tell you about their day. Listen to every word they say,and validate their feelings.
5. Be playful.
Never lose that playfulness that you had with your spouse from the start. Help them cook dinner, put on some great music, and take a quick dance around the room.
6. Smile when they look at you.
Sometimes the best thing to do is to say nothing, but instead, offer them a look that says it all. When your lover looks at you, grin. Not just any smile, but you want a smile so deep and genuine that it lights up their eyes.

1 c. ice 1 1/2 oz. tequila 4 oz. orange or grapefruit juice 1/2 oz. grenadine Maraschino cherry or mandarin, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Fill serving glass with ice, tequila and juice. Add grenadine, garnish with cherry or mandarin and serve.

2 oz. tequila 1/2 lime, plus a wheel for garnish Grapefruit soda Kosher salt
1/2 c. rum 3/4 c. chopped strawberries 2 c. limeade 4 oz. fresh lime juice 8 mint leaves, chopped 6 wooden popsicle sticks
Pour salt into a small plate. Rim a Collins glass with lime then roll in salt, turning to coat. Fill glass with ice. Add tequila, juice of the lime, and a pinch of salt into the glass. Top with grapefruit soda and stir slightly with a bar spoon. Garnish with a lime wheel before serving.
Mix all ingredients together then evenly divide mixture into popsicle molds. Chill popsicle molds in freezer for about 20 to 30 minutes or until liquid is slightly frozen. Add wooden popsicle sticks and freeze overnight. Run warm water over molds to loosen popsicles and serve.

Because of the population’s return, the energy on Earth brought on an apocalyptic astronomical event called the emergence. The only ones with knowledge of it are 10 superheroes, the Eternals, who were brought to Earth in 5,000 B.C. to ensure that the emergence happens. After so many years on Earth that fostered a great love for humankind, the Eternals as a team now face great inner conflict about doing what’s right versus doing what they were told. HERE’S HOW I SAVED ON PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
The price of prescription drugs has, like everything else, inched up. In some cases, the cost has made a massive, sudden jump, and it comes as a shock when you check out at the pharmacy. But there are ways around this horrible surprise. I recently discovered a way to save a lot of money ($80 on a 90-day prescription) by doing two things: I changed pharmacies, and I started using GoodRx. Here’s how:
Go to the GoodRx website (goodrx.com) and put in your ZIP code so that all the local pharmacies show up. Enter the name of the drug you take, as well as the dose and number of pills. See what each pharmacy charges using GoodRx. They will vary widely. Boy, did I get a shock. It took me all of two minutes to call a new pharmacy and ask them to have the prescription transferred.
Then I printed out the GoodRx coupon showing the pharmacy name, the drug and dose, the price and so on. I took that to the pharmacy and voila! Eighty dollars saved. Here are a few other ideas if GoodRx isn’t going to work for you:
• Ask your doctor if a generic would be just as good, or if another drug would work just as well.
• Find out if you qualify for the Extra Help program to pay for your drugs by calling Social Security at 1-800772-1213, or read the information at www.ssa.gov/ pubs/EN-05-10508.pdf. • See if you qualify for the Pharmaceutical Assistance Program. (www.medicare.gov/plan-compare/#/ pharmaceutical-assistance-program) • Get a different Medicare drug plan more in line with the drugs you take (www.medicare.gov/plancompare).
One note: You can’t use GoodRx along with a deductible from Medicare or Medicaid, but you can use it instead of those. Beware whether you’ll reach your annual deductible if you don’t use a Medicare drug plan or if you’re in the doughnut hole (cover gap) already.

Stand Downs were started in California in 1988 by two veterans who saw the great need for services to homeless veterans. SUMMER FUN! As the days grow long and the weather gets hot, you’re likely spending more time outdoors. Whether you’re taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood or golfing with friends, keep these tips in mind to stay healthy:
1. Replenish fluids
It’s easy to become dehydrated when you’re active. Replenish your fluids by drinking plenty of water, and healthy beverages, and by consuming water-rich foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. Because sweat contains electrolytes, you’ll also want to add foods that contain sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium to your diet.
2. Protect skin
Sun exposure can contribute to the production of free radicals. More free radicals in the body means more damage can accumulate over time, and this DNA damage can cause gene mutations that can lead to skin cancer. This is why a multi-layered approach to skin protection is vital. Make sure you wear sunscreen daily.
3. Protect your feet
Wearing properly-fitting, sports-specific footwear can help you avoid overuse injuries such as plantar fasciitis and tendonitis. UV light is harmful to eye health and can put you at greater risk for a number of conditions that impact vision. Wearing sunglasses with UV protection is a good idea. A hat with a brim or cap with a visor can offer eyes additional shade with the bonus of protecting your scalp and face too. At the pool, keep chlorine and other disinfecting chemicals out of your eyes by using goggles. Some pairs even offer UV protection.
