t’ s been 8 years since Colette Miller created her first pair of angel wings on Hewitt Street in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. What started as a way to get others to connect with their higher divine selves has grown into what the world now knows as Colette’s Global Wings Project.

“The divine aspect of humanity was real to me and I just acted on it one night, and painted the first wings illegally next to ArtShare. No hashtags or social media hopes. I didn’t even sign it at first.”

Today and everyday people are posing in front of Colette’s wings in cities and countries across the world; El Segundo, Hollywood, D.C., Harlem, London, Dubai, China, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Kenya, Cuba, Australia, Malaysia, Divine Gift To Humanity France, Italy and the list goes on. ASK THE DOGMAN

Q:

I live in a loft and am thinking of getting a puppy, what should I do before adopting or making a purchase?

A:

I have been a dog owner nearly all of my life and a professional dog trainer for almost half of my life, so I have seen my fair share of dogs and dog owners. One of the biggest mistakes pet owners make is to jump into the decision of buying a dog without taking time to think through the decision.

When the decision to get a dog as a pet is made without care, the owners and the dog suffer equally from it. Before you run out and purchase a dog, take time to carefully consider your decision. Think about your current lifestyle. How would bringing a new dog into the picture affect things? Do you have enough time, energy and money to adequately support bringing a dog into your family? Sure, the idea sounds great now, but is it a wise choice? If you are sure that you can handle bringing a dog into your home and you are sure that you have what it takes to really care for your dog, then move ahead with caution and begin to research what kind of dog might be best for you. A dog is not a dog is not a dog. I often hear people talk about not really caring about what kind of dog they get. Each variety of dog is different and requires vastly different care. Learn what you can about the dogs you are interested in before making a purchase.

Pro Dog Trainer Daryl Young It is great to visit people who own the kinds of dogs you are interested in. See what their lives are really like with a dog in the picture. The more research you do, the better off you will be when you finally bring a dog into your home. Learn all you can from other dog owners and get their wisdom for you.

“I guarantee you that having a dog as a pet is a wonderful but hard thing. Prepare your family before bringing a dog into your home. Talk honestly about the responsibilities that bringing a dog into your home will mean. Divide up those responsibilities so that everyone feels like they have an important part to play. A family will always do better with a dog when they have a right understanding of the work and commitment it will take to keep the dog alive and well. I love seeing families bring a dog into their homes. I am insistent, however, on seeing the process done well. Please use caution and wisdom as you seek to bring a dog into your family. DTLA MUSEUM REVIEW WITH BRITISH ACTOR

KIRAN RAI

“What better way to get a triple

dose of American culture than to spend the day museum hopping in Downtown Los Angeles?” Lucky for me, SoCal Museums announced its 15th Annual Museums Free-for-All on Saturday, January 25th, just one day after I touched down at LAX. On Free-for All Day, Angelenos have their pick of over 40 museums to chose from, all presenting art, cultural heritage, natural history, and science. For almost 10 years hosting countless events across the world and being featured in over 1000 newspapers and magazines, I had never experienced such a sensation as when visiting The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). On exhibit was Seven Stations, Selections from MOCA’s Collection organized by Mia Locks, Senior Curator and Head of New Initiatives, and Bennett Simpson, Senior Curator and Administrative Department Head, with Karlyn Olvido, Curatorial Assistant, and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

through the museum’s permanent collection with works from the 1950s until today. It was truly a fascinating history lesson of what it’s like to be an American through the eyes of such talented artists. Great styles and great colours, the museum was smooch. Each labyrinth was comprised of present dialogues between artists, artworks, and themes from mid-20th-century depictions of America. Added was an entire gallery of MOCA’s beloved Mark Rothko paintings. Other artists in the exhibition included: Terry Adkins, Ruth Asawa, Judith Bernstein, Dara Birnbaum, Lee Bontecou, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Robert Frank, Samara Golden, Dan Graham, Naotaka Hiro, Joan Jonas, Yayoi Kusama, Liz Larner, Linda Montano, Bruce Nauman, Louise Nevelson, Nam June Paik, Beverly Pepper, Robert Rauschenberg, Martha Rosler, Mark Rothko, Nancy Rubins, Betye Saar, Richard Serra, Alina Szapocznikow, Atsuko Tanaka, KaariUpson, Nari Ward, and Mason Williams. My overall favourite discovery at MOCA was learning a $10 million donation is allowing (MOCA) in Los Angeles to make art accessible to everyone. Beginning this month, they will offer free general admission going forward, only charging for special exhibitions.
