Here Comes
Miss Dior February 12th 1947: Christian Dior overturned the codes of elegance and imposed a new, devilishly sensual shape, before an audience of enthusiastic stars and journalists. Carmel Snow of Harper’s Bazaar proclaimed the magic words, “It’s such a Revolution. It’s a New Look!” To accompany the tantalizing curves of the New Look, Monsieur Dior created his first fragrance.
A few days later, in the pearl grey salons of Avenue Montaigne, Christian Dior was conversing with Mitzah Bricard, his essential muse. They were looking for a name for the fragrance, hesitating and prevaricating. Suddenly, Catherine, Christian Dior’s younger sister, came rushing down the grand staircase of 30, Avenue Montaigne, making a conspicuous entrance into the salons. The radiant young girl brought a breath of fresh air in with her. “Look, here’s Miss Dior!” laughed Mitzah.
“Miss Dior, that’s my perfume!” exclaimed the couturier.
And so it was that Miss Dior emerged, as the first Christian Dior’s fragrance, which has since become a legend.

The New Look designs took inspiration from this floral magic, wanting to transform women into blossoming beauties by decorating them with fluttering petals. “After woman, flowers are the most lovely thing God has given the world.” Above all, it was in the composition of Christian Dior’s fragrances that flowers triumphed. First with Miss Dior, then for all those that were to follow, he demanded quality and nobility, selecting harvests and choosing the purest essences and absolutes. Miss Dior is a noble and demanding Chypre. Inaugurating the remarkable history of Dior Haute Perfumery, Miss Dior was born under the sign of luxury.
Miss Dior, or the revolution of a new green Chypre. When the New Look was launched in 1947, the fashion was for powdery, rich perfumes but with limited complexity. An original, green floral Chypre, Miss Dior made its mark and thus ousted the boudoir perfumes. It was a veritable revolution, in the image of the New Look.
“The beauty of Miss Dior lies in the assembly and the accord of all its notes, and their harmony which results in a Chypre.” François Demachy
The current Miss Dior
a reinvented myth
A seductive variation on its elder sibling, the new Miss Dior fragrance is a modern Chypre that radiantly embodies Dior elegance.
“The Chypre is the emblematic representation of a perfume accord. By blending floral, citrus and woody notes, an alliance of different scent qualities is created, yet forms a harmonious whole.” François Demachy Today’s self-assured Miss Dior has been created with the same requirements for exceptional raw materials as her illustrious elder sibling.
Le Parfum
Couture
The Miss Dior perfume bottle,
has been inspired by Christian Dior’s work on dresses. He especially chose two key elements: the houndstooth check, engraved on the bottle’s glass, and the bow, surrounding ots neck.
“I like bows
to finish a neckline…”
The art of the bow is omnipresent in the world of Dior, and the bow itself is one of the most vivid emblematic references of the House. “I like bows to finish a neckline, decorate a hat or close a belt. Whether small, large or enormous, I like them in any style and any material.” Tied at the neck of the perfume bottle, Miss Dior’s Dagger Bow is iconic. It is as daring and elegant as the scent’s accords, and has the Couture sophistication befitting the New Look perfume.
The British Touch The clear and precise houndstoothcheck with irregular corners embodies the ‘British Touch’ that Christian Dior had a particular liking for. The houndstoothcheck chosen by Christian Dior for his very first collections was borrowed from the male wardrobe, altered, and given a feminine allure with his wonderful visionary insolence. Following in the footsteps of this sweet transgression, Miss Dior’s houndstoothcheck displays all the impertinence of Dior.
