You can do almost anything ... choose what works for you By now you know that The Happy Africa Foundation works together with African Impact to raise funds for the projects on the ground. Each of the volunteer projects have specific causes and it is up to you where you want the money to go. (You can also choose to raise funds for the charity to use where the need is greatest.)

Getting Started: 1. CHOOSE the project you are going to raise money for 2. Set an MANAGEABLE target 3. Look at WHAT you are going to do to raise the money

Choose what works for you

HOST AN EVENT Host an event to raise funds for your chosen project. Hold a ball, quiz night, auction or yard sale for family and friends and your community.

CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY What better way to celebrate your birthday than by giving back? Ask family and friends to donate to your chosen project in place of a gift

ACCEPT A CHALLENGE Accept the challenge to shave your head, bike 15 km's or run a marathon if a certain amount of money is raised.

INVOLVE YOUR SCHOOL/WORKPLACE

Challenge your school/ schools in your area to get on board and campaign with your teachers and fellow students. and colleagues

ENCOURAGE MONTHLY GIVING

Set a monthly giving goal. Ask your family and friends to give up one coffee a month, or one less drink on the weekend and donate that money towards your chosen project

Put your goals to the S.M.A.R.T test. Remember to set a MANAGEABLE target. This will go a long way to help you reach your goal and will make fundraising a lot less daunting. Without defined goals, it’s pretty tough to know if you’re actually succeeding.

Ask yourself: Is my goal:

Specific, Measurable,Achievable, Realistic,Time-limited. £120 / $150 feed 20 girls for the year in the Girl Impact Programme £230 / $300 sponsor a child's schooling for the year £2000 / $2500 provide a solar pump for farm irrigation £3500 / $4500 cover all medical & home based care for 30 patients for a year £4500 / $5800 host a street sports competition for 100 underprivileged children £5400 / $7 000 build an ablution block for a community £9250 / $12 000 build a classroom to cater for 80 students £35 000 / $46 000 build a community centre for one of our communities

Aesop 10 year old, Shaan Patel, decided to do something for our projects after volunteering with his family. He ran a lemonade stand in his neighbourhood and this and his other amazing fundraising efforts managed to raise $375!

Launch your Fundraising campaign.. Decide how you want to approach the fundraising campaign. Online fundraising is one of the easiest ways to raise money for charity. You could either create either a webpage or Facebook page which highlights your campaign or create a page on one of the fundraising or crowd sourcing sites listed below. You can also direct your followers friends and family to our website: www.happyafricafoundation.org where they can make direct donations via credit card or Paypal – all they need to do is click on DONATE and choose the project.

CROWDSOURCING There are many online fundraising platforms out there that allow you to set up a donations page. We suggest Virgin Money Giving (www.virginmoneygiving.com) or Global Giving (www.globalgiving.org). The Happy Africa Foundation is a registered charity with Virgin Money and Global Giving, which should make verification of your fundraising easier! These donations platforms allow you to write a brief overview of what you are fundraising for and as well giving you a running total of how much you have raised! You can share the link and your friends and family can donate online – making it easier than ever before!

DIRECT FUNDRAISING If the online fundraising options are not for you, you can always host your event, run your race or fund raise in your community and then donate the amount into our account via our website, or directly into our account. For help and advise you can email us and we will guide you through the process: finance@happyafricafoundation.org

Refine your message and spread the word ... Once you have chosen your campaign, set your goal, and laid out your communication plan, it is time to get the word out. It is important to make sure that your message is clear, your supporters know what you are fundraising for, what your target is and how you plan to get there.

s Refine your message and make your page more PERSONAL by: Posting photos of your experience to invite people to experience the journey with you. Telling your story - let them feel the impact you made with African Impact & The Happy Africa Foundation. Making your goal clear - the more others understand, the more likely they are to want to donate.

s Get the ball rolling and inspire others - DONATE to your own campaign. s REACH OUT to your contacts. Spread the word to 10-15 people who you know will support your goals. Let them be the first to know. The more personal your outreach, the more likely it is they will donate. riend, Dear f

Some tips to keep is simple for you.

INSPIRE s

It is about more than just the money.

It is important that not every message is a call for money Remember to tell your supporters you are campaigning for The Happy Africa foundation. This is a chance to share what you are passionate about.

don't

do

Do's and don'ts of Hashtags The more specific you can get with your hashtag, the more targeted your audience will be and targeted means better engagement. – your hashtag should represent what you are fundraising for.

- try to keep it short and sweet. Too long and no one will use the hashtag because they just don’t want to type in that many characters. Too clever and no one will understand it. It generally dilutes your message and comes off as desperate. Focus instead on being specific, which we already explained above.

LINK IT s

Teamwork gets the message across.

Don't forget to share the project pages and the charity pages in your updates - you want your supporters to know who we are and what we are doing. The more they see the impact their donation will make - the more inspired they will be to donate.
