Cardiac arrest causes 350,000 to 450,000+ deaths in the United States each year. More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital setting. If performed right away, CPR can greatly increase the chances of survival. Unfortunately, only 40% of people who have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest receive the care they need. Many people might be reluctant to perform CPR because of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The good news is that the guidelines have changed and now trusted organizations such as The American Heart Association are recommending hands-only CPR.
