I have always been a romance junkie. I recently had the opportunity to chat with Joy Avery. I first came to know of Joy through her book In the Market For Love and I have continued to follow her work since then. So when I got the chance to interview her, I was overjoyed. Enjoy our Interview!
King Brooks: Hi Joy, How are you?
Joy Avery: Hi. I’m feeling favored and highly blessed. I hope the same for you.
KB: Tell us about your new novel ‘Something So Sweet?’
JA: Absolutely. A small-town mayor confronts an old flame over the fate of a historic inn. Newcomer Quade Cannon is determined to sell the inn, while Mayor Lunden Pierce is determined to stop him by any means necessary. They travel on a fun journey filled with laughter and love.
KB: Where did the idea for this story come from?
JA: If you follow me on social media, you know I’m obsessed with glitter. My glitter dealer, as I call her, is a beekeeper. When I would visit her shop, there were always bees flying around. I was so fascinated by the tiny creatures that I wanted to write a story with bees. Honey Hill was born.
KB: How long did it take for you to write ‘Something So Sweet?’
JA: It took me about three and a half months to write the first draft of Something So Sweet.
KB: ‘Something So Sweet’ is the first book in the “Honey Hill series.” What can we expect from this series?
JA: Sweeter Than Honey, the second book in the Honey Hill series, will be released in June of this year. We will get to meet Rylee Harris, Lunden’s best friend, and Canten Barnes. I hope to pen several additional books in this series.
KB: What do you want readers to take away from ‘Something So Sweet?’
JA: I want readers to walk away from Something So Sweet believing in second chances and the redeeming power of love.
KB: Who is Joy Avery as a person and as an author?
JA: Outside of writing, I’m a wife, a mother, a crafter. I operate a small business where I sell my handcrafted items. You can find my shop at www.LadyLionessHandmades.etsy.com
As an author, I like taking readers on what I refer to as love journeys. In my stories there‘s emotion, laughter, and a lot of love. As my tagline says: Real Characters. Real Journeys. Real Good Love.
KB: When did the writing bug hit you?
JA: The writing bug hit when I was very young. I used to write stories in crayon and animate them with stick figures. I initially wanted to pen a children’s book, but read my first romance and fell in love with the genre. I’ve been penning love stories ever since.
KB: What keeps you coming back for more? (i.e. writing, telling stories)
JA: All the characters swimming around in my head keeps me coming back for more. Along with the readers, who show tremendous support for my writing. That support keeps me motivated. I value my readers. As long as they keep purchasing, I’ll keep writing.
KB: What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
JA: The one piece of advice I’d give to an aspiring author is to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
KB: How can readers get in touch with you and find your books?
JA: Where I can be found: www.facebook.com/authorjoyavery www.twitter.com/authorjoyavery www.instagram/authorjoyavery www.joyavery.com All of my books can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/Joy-Avery/e/B00HZRCN6K

JA: A talented baker and a small-town sheriff forced into a fake relationship decide whether to take a chance on love. Sweeter Than Honey will be released in June 2022. It’s available for pre-order now.
KB: Tell us about your crafting projects?
JA: I love to craft. I make mugs, mouse pads, personalized keychains, and more. You can take a look at my offerings here: www.LadyLionessHandmades.etsy.com
