Conducted by John Wilson
A first for the Helix - following previous Dublin sell-outs - the RTÉ Concert Orchestra presents a very special Hallowe’en screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Psycho with live score. This cinematic masterpiece comes alive in a big-screen presentation accompanied by a live performance of Bernard Herrmann’s spine-tingling score. Imagine the impact of the iconic shower scene on the big screen with the screeching violin music live underneath. Actress Janet Leigh claimed that she never took a shower again after making Psycho. Anthony Perkins is unforgettable as Norman Bates, one of cinema’s most notorious psychopaths. The evocative black-and-white photography and all-strings score all add to the tension, thrills and terror. Bernard Herrmann is a film music master. As well as his close association with Hitchcock that also included the scores for North by Northwest, The Man Who Knew Too Much and Vertigo, his music enriched other classics from Citizen Kane to Taxi Driver. JULIE POTTER
September - October Julie Potter has created a collection that explores the nostalgia and beauty found in the unexpected landscapes of Urban Chaos. Her work mixes the properties of graffiti, watercolour and textiles. She has developed an innovative creative process that delves into the boundaries between controlled colour scales and tonal ranges and the serendipity of natural dye bleeds and decolourant. In contrast to traditional techniques, this method requires working with the subtle development of layered highlights attained by removing pigment rather than adding it. In doing so the dark and moody atmosphere of inclement weather comes to life.

PEMBROKE ART GROUP October
ART
The aim of the Pembroke Art Group is to bring its members out of the isolated world of painting to share a commonality of purpose, support and creativity, committed to the visual expression of the bounty of nature around us. Inspired by each other’s kindred spirits, styles and techniques and the natural resource available to us, we have been motivated to mount this exhibition called Bounty of Nature, which we hope will bring much pleasure to the eye of the beholder and maybe even an early Christmas present.
