414 S. College Ave. Bloomington, IN
My Sister’s Closet is a non-profit organization established to build a stronger community and to promote economic self-sufficiency by providing women with professional support services and tools for success.
A Year Of Growth & Still Moving Forward! It’s been a year since our grand opening at our new space at 414 S. College Avenue. At times it’s been challenging, at times it’s seemed we bit off more than we bargained for, but what a year it has been! Thinking back, we knew we needed to expand to continue assisting clients, but taking that giant step was no small task. Then again, when you meet the people we serve, it’s easy to have faith in this mission. So we took a deep breath, trusted in our amazing community and went for it. And that faith and trust paid off. When people heard My Sister’s Closet was making the big move the help came in again and again, and often from very unexpected places.
For those of us who work with our clients directly, we couldn’t be more grateful or appreciative. Maybe you helped by rolling up your sleeves to move boxes? Maybe you steamed clothes, cheered us from the sidelines, made a donation or came to an event? Regardless of how you stepped up, as sponsor, a grant funder, or as one of the many store volunteers or shoppers who made this project work; you are the reason the lives of so many families have been strengthened over the past year. This local, B-town project wouldn’t be here without you. For all of you who have helped - THANK YOU! Was the effort worth it? Without a doubt, yes! Together, we made it possi-
ble for hundreds of local women from a variety of low-income and at-risk situations to successfully find jobs and fit into the culture of their new positions. Congratulations if you are one of these successful clients! We are so PROUD of you!!! If you are a past or future client and are still looking for a position, we invite you to consider working with one of our interview skills coaches, resume writers or image consultants. Together we will make sure you are not only dressed for success, but able to answer those interview questions with ease so you can get hired. We always get asked, can anyone shop at My Sister’s Closet? Yes! If
you don’t shop, we can’t pay the rent. If we can’t pay the rent, we can’t help the families we serve. Support My Sister’s Closet today! Shop! My Sister’s Closet’s Bargain Boutique is a great place to shop on a dime. Inside are great brands & accessories and a wide assortment of styles & sizes. Inside you will find everything from trendy casuals & classics, to unusual jewelry pieces, formals, sensational wedding gowns or that "have to" have little black dress.
Can Anyone Shop at MSC?
Yes, Shop!

Why Support My Sister’s Closet?
The lack of appropriate interview clothing, training and education are significant barriers to struggling women needing to care for their families. For a female dealing with the issues of extreme poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, joblessness … finding employment is much harder. My Sister’s Closet’s services allow women to present themselves credibly and professionally, significantly increasing their chances of getting hired and maintaining a position.
MSC is raising $30,000 by June 30th to support current program initiatives. Help us reach this goal by: Shopping, Donating & Supporting Events!

Our 2015 discussion group about four Hitchcock films was so successful and well received that we are back with another! This year’s films will be: The 39 Steps - Hitch’s classic British suspense movie Rebecca - the favorite film of all of many Hitchcock fans Notorious - Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Nazi’s, American spies, and sexual intrigue - who could ask for anything more? Strangers on a Train - “Criss cross. If you don’t know what that means, you NEED to see this movie!

SIX TUESDAYS
July 6, 13, 20 and 27
FOUR TUESDAYS
In the fall of 1863, two battles swirled around the Chattanooga region within two months of one another. In September, Confederate General Braxton Bragg defeated Union General William Rosecrans at the Battle of Chickamauga, a huge, intense struggle often called “the Gettysburg of the west. Bragg failed to capitalize on his narrow win, and two months later Ulysses S. Grant defeated the Confederates at Lookout Mountain, opening the way to Atlanta. We will examine both campaigns in detail.
One hundred years ago this year, from July 1 to November 18, 1916 British troops supported by their French allies fought the armies of the German Empire in one of the bloodiest battles of all time. When it was over more than one million men were dead wounded or missing; the battlefront had barely moved. The Battle of the Somme has been regarded ever since as the iconic battle of the Western Front in World War I - a senseless blood bath. Or was it? Revisionist historians claim to find some method in the madness of those horrid days. The course evaluates the battle, tracing its progress in detail, and providing analyses of both the strategies and tactics of the generals. Was Haig a bloody fool, or a man who recognized the only key to victory?
The Crusades: Part 1 THREE WEDNESDAYS AND TWO TUESDAYS October 26, November 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16 The First, Second, Third and Wendish crusades – How the Crusading movement began, the establishment of the Christian kingdoms in the Middle East, the military events, the lords and leaders, the political complications, and the impact on the development of Western civilization in Europe. This course is very timely, as the debate over The Crusades today is politically and religiously heated once again.
What We Do
We choose our guest instructors for their scholarship and expertise in the particular subjects they will teach. Our guest instructors for 2016 are: Marvant Duhon, a fellow student of Mark Acres’ at Cornell, who has a lifetime of historical study, the experience of a military veteran, and a mastery of World War II in the European theatre. Scott Schroeder is an IU Physical Therapist, President of the Monroe County Civil War Roundtable and an expert in the scholarship of the Lincoln Assassination. Jamie Acres majored in theatre and minored in music at Indiana University. She has studied the Beatles at IU, in London, and in Liverpool. Her Beatles courses are always favorites with students. In addition, Jamie will be offering course on the Titanic, a subject she has studied for over thirty years.

The Bloomington Humanities Center provides affordable, high quality adult education courses and reading/discussion groups in History, Literature, Drama, Film, Music, Art, Philosophy and Religious Studies. We believe that ongoing exploration of the Humanities is essential to the enhancement of human life in an increasingly technological and commercial culture. Our courses and discussion groups enable students from any educational background to gain a solid foundation of knowledge about a specific subject, preparing them for further reading or research in the area. There are no pre-requisites save a desire to learn and share. Our classrooms offer a friendly, informal, and fun environment. There are no required readings and no tests, although discussion groups do require reading of the work being discussed or viewing of the film being discussed. Our courses do not provide college credit.
BERNARD AUDETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Bernard Audette Memorial Scholarship allows interested persons of limited means to attend Bloomington Humanities Center courses at no charge. Bernard Audette, recently of Stinesville, was a devoted student of philosophy, religion, art, music, literature and drama. During his lifetime, he performed in secret many deeds of philanthropy. Bloomington Humanities Center is honored to make this scholarship available in Bernie’s memory. There are no particular income requirements for the scholarship. The only requirements are a desire to learn and an inability to pay for the cost of course offerings. Interested persons should contact:
