A very warm welcome to 2015 and our new Pitkin heritage brochure.

CONTENTS

We are delighted to offer you a feast of new Pitkin titles which we hope you will enjoy.    With 2015 heralding the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, we are focusing on this most important of documents as well as King John, the man responsible for its creation. There is much debate about how bad this king really was, but his role in world history is significant and our new guide will help to illuminate his special legacy.    We invite you to be intrigued by the world of secrets and scandals with our first two new titles on this subject based on the Medieval and Tudor periods. Also new for 2015, The Steam Engine is explored as part of our popular Industrial Heritage series: a mustbuy for all engine-lovers, as well as an ideal student reference. And we are pleased to add three new ‘Life Ins’ to our Decades Series, with the 1930s, 1940s and 1980s coming on board.    Last but not least we have a new title in our small hardback collectible series: Alice In Her Own Words. Marking the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, this is a unique collection of quotes about Lewis Carroll’s most enduring character.   You will also find an array of fresh titles from our colleagues at The History Press, including additions to the fascinating pocket GIANTS series and plenty of new gift ideas, such as The World According to Blofeld’s Cat.   The Team at Pitkin and The History Press wish you a happy and successful 2015.

HIGH STREET Oxymoron, a student magazine of the late 1960s, went into a paroxysm of excitement over a pair of flares: ‘There is a male boutique …’ it enthused. ‘This fact, clearly the most important thing to happen in Oxford this century, does not seem to have attracted the attention it merits … You will be fascinated to know’, continued the student journalist, ‘that I have my eyes on some mauve cord trousers that are just fantastic. It’s a gas, man …’. Peter Snow Oxford Observed 1991
