From the Editor Greetings HomeMag readers from an unfamiliar voice! This is the voice of me from abroad. My wife and I were finally able to take a trip that has taken us four years to plan: One week in France and four weeks in Italy. We are spending the first week in Nice and Saint-Tropez relaxing in the sun and soaking up the French Riviera. From France we head to Sicily for four days to meet my brother, his family and oh yea, my daughter (more on that later on). Then off to the Amalfi Coast for four days enroute to Cinque Terre and Portofino to soak in the Ligurian Sea for five days. We decided to skip Central Italy and head straight up North, first to Venice for three days, and then three days in the beautiful Dolomites. From there we head down to Verona for a few days, then to Lake Garda for three days and finally to Lake Como for two days. Wow, it’s tiring even writing about. The reason I am able to be on such an extended vacation is that I have something very powerful at my office…TNT (Trust n’ Team). I couldn’t have even imagined taking a trip like this with the team I had last year. I now have a good mix of experienced and new team members. For the experienced members on my team, my absence is a time for them to validate as to why I have trust in them. For the newer team members, my absence is a chance for them to wow me and help them earn my trust.
I too had an exercise in trust with my 12 year old daughter Tayla. I sent her by herself to South Africa to join my brother and his family for a two week trip to Sicily. I had to trust the airlines with the most precious thing I have, to deliver her to another continent and hand her off to my brother safely. I couldn’t sleep until I got confirmation that she had arrived safely. What I did learn is that the airlines did exactly what they said they would do. The glue that holds all relationships together--including the relationship between the leader and the led--is trust, and trust is based on integrity. --Brian Tracy How well do you trust your team? Whether at the office or at home? How long could you be away for to have your operations run smoothly? What kind of TNT are you dealing with? Moreover, and most importantly, what have you done to groom your team and build integrity with them? A great way to start the process of trust building with four quick and easy steps is as follows: 1. Do what you say. One of the most important steps in building a foundation of trust is to do what you say you will do. Even if it’s a small thing, canceling or not following through will create tiny fractures in your credibility.
