Your Wellness and Success Go Hand-in-Hand! by Dr. Anita M. Jackson s you may already know, I am formally trained A in marriage and family therapy and organizational or business psychology and development.

During my doctorate I focused my dissertation on organizational wellness and mental health. I share this with you because it was during my dissertation literature review process (the most challenging aspect of the dissertation), that I came across the idea that wellness and success were powerfully correlated and greatly influenced the survival, mere existence, and success of a business and its employees. You are probably wondering why I am sharing this in a women’s magazine focused on empowering women to know they are enough. In some ways, this topic doesn’t seem to fit our overall intention. However, I guarantee you that your wellness, or lack thereof, directly influences your ability to know you are enough and can powerfully aid you in stepping into your next level of outrageous success whether in your personal life and/or business. Research states that true wellness is reached when a person experiences harmony and balance within their body, soul (mind, will, emotions) and spirit. In a deeper sense, there are eight dimensions to experiencing holistic or true wellness. The eight dimensions are: physical, mental/intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social (relational), environmental, occupational and financial. To experience optimal wellness and success, one must understand and participate in the above activities that support continued growth and advancement. From a holistic approach, success can easily be accomplished when one understands not only the dimensions of wellness, but the key principles of wellness. Let’s start by first describing the eight dimensions of wellness. They are as follows:

Physical Wellness: includes a healthy approach to exercise, nutrition, drugs & alcohol. Optimal physical health requires eating well, exercising, avoiding harmful habits, making responsible decisions about sex, learning about and recognizing the symptoms of disease, getting regular medical and dental checkups and taking steps to prevent injuries.

Emotional Wellness: includes trust, self-esteem, self-acceptance, selfconfidence, self-control, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks and failures. Maintaining emotion wellness requires monitoring and exploring your thoughts or feelings, identifying obstacles to emotional well-being and finding solutions to emotional problems. It may be necessary to work through this step with the help of a therapist, psychologist or life coach.

Spiritual Wellness: is a set of guiding beliefs, principles or values that give meaning and purpose to your life, especially during difficult times. It involves having the ability and capacity for love, compassion, forgiveness, altruism, and fulfillment. Spiritual wellness does not adhere to any particular religion; however, organized religions may help develop spiritually healthy behaviors, while many people may find meaning and purpose in their lives on their own.

Mental/Intellectual Wellness: includes the use of and continual striving for information and intellectual growth. An active mind is essential to wellness. It opens us to new ideas, the capacity to question, think critically, and motivate us to master new skills, which includes having a sense of humor.

Social/Relational Wellness: includes the ability to develop and maintain healthy intimacy. Developing social wellness means learning good listening and communication skills, contributing to your community, accepting others differences, and cultivating a support network of loving and caring family members and/or friends.

Environmental (planetary) Wellness: includes the ability to promote measures that improve the standard of living and quality of health in our environment. The health of the planet depends upon the safety of our food and water supply, air and water pollution, infectious diseases, violence in our society, ultraviolet radiation, and includes understanding the dangers of second hand tobacco smoke.

Occupational Wellness: includes the ability to balance work and leisure time. Striving for occupational wellness adds focus to your life & allows you to find personal satisfaction in your life through work.

Financial Wellness: Financial wellness is an intricate balance of the mental, spiritual and physical aspects of money. Financial wellness is having an understanding of your financial situation and having the understanding and ability to take care of it in such a way that you are prepared for financial changes. Maintaining that balance consists of being comfortable with where your money comes from and where it is going. Another aspect of financial wellness is wealth consciousness development which includes the understanding of abundance from an emotional, mental and spiritual place of internal truth. Now let’s talk about the key principles of wellness that powerfully allows for success. My wellness principles are:

• • • • • • •

Wellness is primarily a choice and a mindset. Wellness is a daily activity of the body, soul (mind, will and emotions), and spirit. Wellness is a constant progress in personal and professional growth and development. Wellness is having an awareness to live life purposefully, deeper intention. Wellness creates wealth for life. Wellness creates stability, confidence, and peace. Wellness is a strategic plan for being and living life well.

The key to developing optimal wellness is understanding how to balance, or allow, the ebb and flow of life to operate in such a way that it supports what feels absolutely right for you in using your time, energy and finances in a way that honors your desires, passions, needs and wants. The accomplishment of this task strengthens and increases your chances to experience holistic success in your personal life and business. As a woman, we often struggle with being “well” because we tend to place others before ourselves. This is what makes us beautiful beyond description; however, it is also the very thing that keeps us experiencing higher levels of physical and psychological problems. Yet, for a woman who focuses on wellness, her overall sense of being and her abilities become empowered in helping her step into and experiencing outrageous success in every area of her life. Being well just makes life that much sweeter! Be Well, Dr. Anita Dr. Anita M. Jackson

Shampoo and Self-Esteem by Nancy Mueller

iving your life in high self-esteem can be the key to unlock your greatest desires in life. But what happens when your self-esteem is at an alltime low or you didn’t have much to begin with? High self-esteem can mean the difference of going after that new client, asking for the promotion you want, working up the nerve to talk to that special guy you’ve had your eye on or even having that conversation that you have been avoiding.

my gosh, why did she have to say anything about this shirt? I haven’t done laundry for so long and this was the only clean shirt in my closet. I didn’t even have time to iron it and I am sure that she is really noticing every wrinkle in this shirt. Why, oh why, did she have to say something about my shirt, today of all days? Why couldn’t she have complimented me yesterday when I was feeling great about my outfit?” You can see how low self-esteem and negative self-talk can take the life out of your living but unlike shampoo, I don’t know of any store that sells self-esteem. So, where do you go to refill your selfesteem?

An example of creating high self-esteem can be found in your shampoo bottle! When you buy a new bottle of shampoo, you are more likely to feel that you have an abundance of shampoo without giving much thought as to how much you use. The answer lies inside “YOU!” Let’s start with your However, when the bottle is close to empty, and you haven’t been shopping in a while, you probably health. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the BEST) where are you? If your answer is less than a 10, tend to use the shampoo very sparingly. what are you doing to improve your health? For example; if I get out there and make the news. Learn to cook were to compliment you on your shirt, would you be healthier, stop eating fast food and drinking soda. You are what you eat and your brain is counting on able to smile and say “thank you?” Or would your you to choose healthy nutritious food to fuel your self-talk kick in, causing you to think, “this shirt, oh 10

Living your life in high self-esteem can be the key to unlock your greatest desires in life. body. If you start your day with a bowl of cereal and milk, coffee and a donut, soda and a candy bar or you skip breakfast altogether, you are setting yourself up for a day of disaster. Our bodies need fuel; nutrients, vitamins, minerals, water, sunlight, exercise and a happy mindset. You won’t find these things in a fast food joint or a vending machine. Starting your day off with the right kind of protein can make all the difference between getting through the day and sailing through your day. Do you want to know the best part‌ YOU get to choose how you live your life, what you feed your body and the level of fun you add to your daily routine.

Every negative has a positive; sometimes you have to look a little harder to find it, but it is there. If your self-talk is full of negative comments and put downs, how will you build your self-esteem to the level you need to live every day to the fullest? Create a habit of waking up every morning and finding 10 things to be grateful for and then do the same thing before you fall asleep at night. Studies show that whatever is on our mind right before we fall asleep is what we will take into our subconscious when we are sleeping. If you are a person who falls asleep with the TV on, you have no control over what is being loaded into your subconscious as you fall asleep. Commercials and negative news shows permeate our minds and we think we are tuning them out but we are not. How can you eliminate the negative habit of falling asleep in front of the TV with a better more positive habit? So, the next time you reach for your shampoo bottle, think about how easy it is to get a refill. Then, tell yourself that your self-esteem can be as abundant as your shampoo. Because, after all, Life Is All About Choices!

Sexy Fun by Elise Cohen Ho, PhDc, HHP we turn to the subject of wellness and fun I A scannot help but turn to the subject of sex. As

Gingko Biloba

adult women, this is an integral part of our lives. If you are not well, then your sex life is not well. If you is a great herb for men with erectile dysfunction but it is also a great herb for women. Gingko Biloba inare not having fun then your sex life is BORING. creases blood flow to the capillaries right below the skin. This can lead to more salute for the men and Perhaps things are not happening in the bedroom the way that you desire. Maybe his flag is not at full more pleasure for the ladies due to the extra sensisalute or perhaps you are having issues with lubri- tivity in the clitoral area. 80 mg per day will usually do the trick but if you have issues with blood clotcation. In no way does any of this mean that the sex life is over, what it does mean is that it may be ting than this is not the herb for you. time for some extra help.

Ashwaganda, or Indian Ginseng, is prevalent in Ayurvedic medicine and can provide energy and increase sexual POWER! While this aphrodisiac is beneficial for men or women to consume, the most benefit will occur for the men which, let’s face it will benefit the ladies. This herb is bitter so I recommend capsules of 600 to 1000 mg. twice per day. Please note that Ashwaganda can interfere with Kava.

Maca, or Peruvian Ginseng, has been shown to offer libido increasing properties, but wait that is not it! It also can help with strength, stamina, energy and hormone issues... and we are talking the ones that lead to a good SEX life... testosterone, progesterone and estrogen. Ladies, you also get an extra special bonus with this one as Maca can help with menopause, menstrual regularity and cramps. Maca can be taken in capsule form but my preference is 1 Tablespoon in your morning smoothie. 16

Horny Goat Weed

is an aphrodisiac herb that helps to boost libido. It is a staple in Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been used for erectile dysfunction and fatigue. Two things that would definitely be, err, downers in the bedroom. 600 mg of Horny Goat Weed along with that great Maca can knock Viagra right out of your medicine cabinet. Now he can be natural and you can both be satisfied.

Kava is an herb that I recommend to my clients almost weekly. Its stress reducing properties can help with a bevy of issues and less stress, anxiety and frazzled nerves definitely increases sexual interest, but did you know it can also help with erections and orgasms? The reason for this is simple, often times our minds hold us back from what we truly desire. Add to this the fact that this herb can help with sleep. Someone who is exhausted has no interest in sexual activity so get your Kava on. A does of 50 to 100 mg per day is good for most.

Touted as an herbal Viagra for men and women L-Arginine is an amino acid that works to increase

blood flow to the genitals. For women, this can increase ability to achieve orgasm. For men, this can offer a longer and stronger erection. Women benefit most from an herbal cream whereas men can typically turn to a dosage of 2-8 grams per day. L-Arginine should not be taken alongside Viagra and in fact any person using prescription drugs should discuss all possible side effects with the prescribing physician. If there is Sexual Pain than the root cause of the problem needs to be found. Sexual pain can be indicative of issues with sexual interest, lubrication, emotional issues or medical problems. A talk with your holistic practitioner and/or a mental health therapist can do wonders for this unspoken problem. If you need a lube then I absolutely encourage you to get educated on what is actually in those lubes that you buy at the “toy store” or, even worse, the supermarket. Check out the organic personal lubricant known as “Sex Butter” at http://www.sexbutter.net/index.html and see if that will not help things out a bit. Another very important thing is to NOT be afraid to speak of your wants, needs and desires. You have every right in the world to let your lover know if you are enjoying what they are doing, or if you want to try something new. Do you want to have more sex? Then initiate it. Do you want to have less sex then say, “NO” Girlfriends, it is your body and your life. Enjoy yourself, step into your POWER, stay safe and go for what you want!

A Daily Dose of Pleasure and Play To Prosper! by Amy Cheryl

I will never forget the words from a man who was 15 years older than me that I once dated. He would often say, “Life is Short” and “All we have is isters, what times we live in as a women! When this moment”. He was quite a romantic and those we take a moment and relax into our breath, and statements stayed with me for years to come. Life look all around us at the world and opportunities we had passed him by and if he could have done have in this day and age it is truly extra-ordinary. things differently, he would have.

S

I remember a time when my mother spoke about the limited opportunities that were available to her growing up. A woman became either a teacher or a nurse and, of course, was considered an “old maid” if not married off by the tender age of 21. Yet, what I have noticed and I myself had have had to shift to, is how many of us are truly enjoying the gloriousness of our life and of our freedom. We are breathing into the play and pleasure that is available to us always, from us…within us. I began to notice that our passion in our “missions” and our “businesses” and all the people that “need us” in our life can chip away, if we are not aware, at the deep pleasure that is our inherent nature. We easily get caught up in the day to day, all the way to the long term inquiries of what legacy we so desire to leave this planet and the people with whom we leave them when we move on. 18

What I have come to realize is that FUN! is something that needs to be scheduled into our weekly planner otherwise, it just doesn’t happen. I also noticed that our definition of what is FUN! changes over time. I love how the theme of this issue is Wellness AND Fun! as that is where the link intersects. When we can drop into what is fun for us and fill up our “well”, so to speak, we are in alignment of treating ourselves “well.” We remember the important fact that wellness happens when we include filling up our well with fun! Yet, oftentimes, women don’t realize that the majority of our fun comes from within us and how we are relating to all that is around us. We, as women, have an inherent gift of feeling fun and pleasure from within. We are more sensual by nature and our senses are heightened when we breathe into our bodies.

Here are pleasure tips for this month to receive more wellness and fun into your life (every day)! 1. Breathe a good 5 breaths deeply into your belly and your body every hour on the hour (especially if

you are at your computer a lot during the day) and imagine the breath like a liquid, golden light spilling into all the areas of your body. When we are more connected to feeling our body from the inside out, we become more aware of how good we can feel from the inside out. This also heightens our awareness to our surroundings…the darling birds chirping outside, the sun shining or the rain touching down upon the leaves of the trees. When this becomes our way of being, we change. We feel the fun and pleasure of life all of the time and we notice the beauty of life.

2.

Schedule in your calendar a play-date with yourself every week! When was the last time you took yourself to the playground and swung on a swing? Or twirled on the grass and then fell to the ground intoxicating yourself with the silliness of the feelings that were evoked? Or browsed around in an actual bookstore and flipped through real books with real paper ( vs. a kindle or iPad)?

3.

Schedule a slumber party with a dear sista of yours at least once a month. There is something sacred when sista’s come together! Nothing can replace the type of oxy-toxin and giddy high that is exchanged. Remember the days of begging mom for a slumber party with your girlfriends and giggling the night away? Yes! As adults, this is always in us. We just need to draw it out.

4.

Lastly, be aware of how you choose to engage with everything in your day. Are you running through your to do list each day, eating on the run and fitting in your exercise because you have to?...or because you choose to? Deep wellness stems from how we choose to participate in our life. When we come from a place of sacredness and consciousness around each activity, or “task”, we receive more pleasure and fun in our day. We are also reminding ourselves to treat ourselves well. This is our responsibility. There is a saying, “It is not what you do that matters, but how you do it” Sista’s, I invite you to check in more regularly on how you do your life and to infuse more fun, pleasure, play and sacredness into each moment. From this place, witness your life change and your energy levels soar. I guarantee you that those around you will begin to notice the glow of radiance that something positively contagious is different about you. 13 Fashion Must-Haves for Summer Fun and Fabulosity by DeAnna DuPree ummer fashion is all about ease and fun - easy to wear, easy to take off, and fun to doll up. As we happily welcome the long-awaited heat-wave, it’s imperative we greet summer stylishly… as every gal should.

S

* Some pep in your step. Add a trendy staple such as a peplum top to your repertoire. Wear it with a swingy skirt, straight legs or even cropped pants for a playful yet professional look. I love how these tops add instant curves to any body type.

If you find yourself wearing last seasons’ threads, or gazing into your closet for a half hour for “whatto-wear” work or play clothes, now may be the perfect time to update your wardrobe with these summertime staples.

*Mary Wedge in Black or Neutral

Drum roll, please!

Perfect for “Casual Friday” or the simple weekendwear. Wedges are perfect for summer and this simple black strapped Mary wedge will take you from the beach to dinner flawlessly.

*KISS Keep it Short but Safe

(White or khaki Capri pants) When the weather heats up, grab a comfortable pair of Capri or Palazzo shorts. Pair them with a tank on the weekend, or a fab cotton blazer for work, and hope for a breeze!

Queen bee/ feel-good shades

*Maxi dresses

White, yellow, orange, or floral print- A long maxi dress is a must for summer. It’s a simple way to keep cool while looking super chic. The maxi dress is also perfect for throwing on after a day at the beach. To be honest, it’s a total no brainer. Just throw it on, add a few cuffs, cute sandals and you’re good to go! A great maxi truly is the best fallback outfit for those hot, sticky days when you have “nothing to wear.”

*Sharpen your pencil (skirt).

Turn this traditional office bore on its head by opting for its colorful counterpart. I especially love the neon colors, corals, and prints such as tweed. Wear it with a simple striped top and dainty heels for an HR-approved summer ensemble. 20

Big and bold sunglasses are never a bad idea. The Queen-Bee Shade protect your eyes, protects your foundation from the heat, and gives a girl that ultimate Vintage Hollywood/Retro-Chic look while blasting a little Rihanna on the way to work, or happy hour.

The Glam Statement Necklace

Add sparkle with statement pieces, so you always look and feel amazing! Statement necklaces are one of my favorite pieces that can add dazzle and dimension to any muted outfit, or boring uniform. Choosing seasonal statement necklaces will totally make you the center of attention this summer. Rock that office party or networking mixer with unique chunky, collar and cluster necklaces in hues of blue, yellow, and/or metals. Don’t be afraid

to add a multi layer piece either. Multilayered statement pieces add class and pizzazz to dramatic necklines, the basic button-down, crew neck tees (with skinnies of course), and the fabulous {solid} maxi.

Colorful Handbag

One Size Fits All Occasions. Toss all of your loot, or even light luggage, in a large colorful over-theshoulder tote to brighten up your day or make for an effortless weekend escape. Neon yellow, orange, or ocean blues will totally make a statement while dollin’ up that basic white or black ensemble. Impromptu trip to the beach? Yep, your towel can fit!

The One-Piece Suit

Bathing suit season may not be your favorite but you can’t stay inside all summer. A flattering black one-piece (with built in stomach sucking technology) might help you get outside. Throw on a fab cover-up and bedazzled sandals to set this ensemble on fire!

The classic ‘special occasion’ shoe.

The shape and style can suit so many important events in a woman’s life, and the height of the heel makes it comfortable enough to wear all day long. Add a splash of color like yellow, electric blue, or hot pink to really steal the show! But I won’t knock the versatile neutral tone, always perfect with whites, and tans.

As fashion mogul (and my style icon), Kimora Lee Simmons, says so fabulously: “Just have fun, and express Everyone needs a solid neon piece to break out on the three-F’s in fashion: Feminine, Flamspecial occasions. Its bright hue will also compleboyant, and FOXY.” Yellow cocktail dress- A Fluorescent Frock

ment your sun-kissed skin nicely. Just, please for the love of all things beautiful, DO NOT wear neon shoes or the same-colored handbag! Now’s the time to learn about “pairing” your hues… See my next issue (wink).

Tailored Trousers

A pop of color can instantly brighten your day— plus, ankle-length trousers can take you from dayto-date-night with ease. Don’t be afraid to step out in your trousers. Channel your inner-Audrey, she’s the epitome of style, confidence, femininity, and ease.

Petal Pushers

Floral wedges add a pop of color—and pizzazz—to a white frock, solid trousers, or even a maxi. Not only will they add height, your perfectly manicured toesies will thank you for the comfort!

A Spring-to-Summer Staple

Now get out there and enjoy the sun!

If the weather is chilly, throw a jean jacket over a flirty sundress. The cool thing about the jean jacket is the lovely fact it can be paired with just about any dress, skinny jeans, and or even high-waisted wide leg palazzos. Roll up the sleeves, and pop the color to add a bit more sass to your look. Don’t forget to throw in a wide band watch or bangles to dress your dainty wrists! DeAnna DuPree 21

A Lifetime Of FUN! by Monika Zands

was one of the many mantras he shared daily as I was growing up, but for some reason, this one greatly influenced me. I grew up to be highly conscious of what I put into my body, what choices I was making to support my health, and what would assist me to thrive in my athletic competitions.

Here are three practices I invite you to consider to create your life of Fun & Well-being. PRACTICE ONE (TIME: 15 minutes + a lifetime of fun) Live life from your “Fun and Well-Being List”

There are many things that you do in your life that you absolutely love. And I would guess that you As a child, I was not allowed to eat sugar cereals, soda pop, or McDonald’s. And this was not a mere have probably heard yourself say, after an event suggestion; I believed it was a crime punishable by that was wonderful, how much fun you had or how death. The message was so loud in my head that I much joy it brought you. But all too often we tend to would tell parents, who would take all the kids dur- wait for these kinds of events to arrive rather than making them a practice we engage in regularly. They well-being in life, I invite you to block 15 minutes of time into your schedule to make your personal would ask several times if I was sure and without Fun and Well-Being List. This was my workPRACTICE TWO around. And a rather successful one I might add. Needless to say, my father was an over-achiever and naturally he would have it no other way for me. I began skiing between his legs on black diamond slopes at the age of two. I played soccer competitively at the age of four. I won swim meets in my age range starting at the age of five, and won nearly every race I ran in from the age of five until I was almost 25 years old. I am not sure if I was running for my life or from my life, but I was running nonetheless.

(TIME: 30 minutes after wake-up)

Get your metabolism going so you do not “Starve your body and hang on to fat”

If you have ever had an outfit that you had to fit into before an event or you have wanted to loose that last five pounds for what feels like forever, a simple step you may not be taking is to eat within 30 minutes of waking up. Our body slows down when we are asleep so when we get up in the morning if we wait longer than thirty minutes to eat the body’s “brain” goes into starvation mode and begins to During those long years of pretty intense training store the fat. When we eat within those first thirty with my dad, what I was being taught was discipline, fortitude, endurance, and pace. These are all minutes then our body leaps full steam ahead allowing the metabolism to ramp up in a healthy way, skills that at the time were often very hard to see, which can prevent blood sugar fluctuations, added but now I am constantly grateful and in awe of my stress on the heart, and inconsistent metabolic father’s wisdom. functioning. Planning your schedule around the meals that will support a healthy metabolism will I have implemented these amazing bits of wisdom not only help you feel great, but will train your body by making them into my daily practices. I have to trust that you are listening to what it needs and found that when we create daily practices in areas in return it can arrive at its ideal state of wellness. of our life that we wish to take to the next level, then we also form habits that support the end result we seek. 22

PRACTICE THREE (TIME: 5 minutes daily + a lifetime of thoughtfulness) A daily Gratitude practice increases happiness by 25% (As reported by research in the book, Thanks, by Dr. Robert A. Emmons) When was the last time you had a really great day? Think of a time right now. What were you doing? Who were you with? What did you see? What did you hear? Do you remember the specific moments that made you laugh, feel special, feel joy? Reflect now. We may have many of these wonderful moments that color our lives and plant seeds in our memory, but how often do we reflect on them? In the brief process above, the mere reflection on a really great day heightens your access to fulfillment, to gratitude, and to inner joy. In fact, our brain cannot distinguish between a vivid memory recalled or an actual event. When you would like to experience greater levels of joy, happiness, and fun then putting into practice a daily expression of gratitude will greatly impact your life. One of the fastest ways to practice gratitude is to look yourself in the mirror and share aloud three things you are grateful for. I do this right after brushing my teeth in the morning and it has become part of my teeth brushing routine. I also recommend a daily gratitude journal. I write in mine before bed so I can reflect on my day and recall special moments that had an impact on my heart. Or you can share gratitude at any moment, for any reason. No matter which way you implement the practices suggested above, finding a practice and repeating it each day for 21 days will create new habits that will support your well-being and consequently help you experience the next level of fun and fulfillment in your life. If you have questions about getting started I have many 21-day healthy habit resources on my website (www.monikazands.com). Come have fun with me and let your practices guide you!! See your greatness. Be your greatness. Pay it forward. With love and gratitude, Monika <3

You could choose another mantra:

I am enough, I have enough and am grateful for what I have now! Imagine that this change in the economic climate was simply an opportunity to look deeply into the caverns of your value of enoughness and decide who you are without the distractions. Instead of calling it wrong or bad that families moved in together, began to eat meals at home, shared a ride or a computer, that therein lies the opportunity to touch the very fabric of your humanity, your love, your kindness, your tolerance, your value. There is so much conversation around a “return to values”. Yes we need to return to values, our own value, what makes us who we are, what we bring to the planetary table as our good and gift. How can you know who you are when your self-worth is contingent upon a physical appendage as large as a car, a boat or a house? Stripped down naked allows you to get in touch with you and begin to create wealth from that space, not one of mind numbing, intoxicated, unconscious lives. The word wealth comes from an old English word “weal” which literally translated means happiness, well-being, prosperity. The condition of happiness or well-being. How do you demonstrate that in your life today? Is it still contingent upon a thing, or can you get in touch with that condition of happiness and well-being from inside your inner most beingness? This financial cancer that is plaguing the planet is caused by inflammation, as is all dis-ease. The inflammation of the not enoughness belief creates fear, constriction of the heart and leads to more financial cancer. Opening up to one’s own value is an anti-inflammatory remedy for that cancer. You can begin today by knowing your true worth and value from the inside out and allow true wealth to press down upon you as a reflection of the truth of who you are. The first step to experience the joy of enoughness is gratitude. Begin a gratitude practice today. What are you grateful for? Audio by Debbie Dobbins

Find Joy in Sales and Turn Failure into Success by Anne D. Johnson

I t’s been said, you should enjoy what you do!

The luckiest people are those who spend their lives doing something they really love. On some level isn’t that the dream we all share? To be lucky enough to follow our passion, find our purpose in life, and then create an emotionally fulfilling, financially successful lifestyle around it? It sounds ideal. But, from what I have experienced as an entrepreneur, business woman and sales coach, bringing that dream to fruition, even when it involves our greatest passion in life, is not an easy mission to accomplish. It takes courage to step out of the “comfort zone” and change careers, build a business, create a charity, or do whatever your dream requires. Many people are paralyzed by the mere thought of such a bold move. Others will take that leap of faith only to be blindsided by the reality of what it really takes to succeed....Sales! Let’s face it, passion and purpose are the spice of life and a driving force but they are simply not enough. The most critical aspect of sustaining financial success will always involve making sales. It’s not always as straight forward as selling a product, a service, or an idea. Asking for charitable donations, securing endorsements, supporting causes, promoting events, obtaining loans, are all forms of selling. Yes, enjoy what you do, but don’t overlook the importance of sales.

26

Unfortunately some people dread sales so much they will indeed let their dreams die on the vine. Others will struggle and waste precious energy looking for ways to avoid selling altogether. Procrastination and the lack of sales skills will eventually threaten the success of any venture. Ultimately the frustration and stress from feeling overwhelmed by a fear and resistance toward selling takes its toll which negatively effects quality of life as well…Ugh! It’s worth it. You are entitled to enjoy what you do and sales is no exception! Finding the joy in sales allows you to stop struggling and remain focused on fulfilling your destiny. Finding the Joy in sales, like finding the joy in anything, is largely based on perception. Fear and resistance toward selling is driven by false beliefs, incorrect assumptions, and misinformation.

Identify False Beliefs Introduce New Perspective - Eliminate Fear

Overcoming fear and embracing sales starts by changing the negative beliefs that are holding you back. Bold and Classy Selling’s proprietary system “Alternative Selling Perspectives” unravels the psychology of fear and resistance and offers a new way of thinking, a positive approach that allows your mind to open up and begin to accept the truth about selling. For example, ask yourself, how you feel about sales? Do you view sales in a negative or positive light? Do you view sales as manipulation? An “Alternative Selling Perspective”... Sales is not about forcing or tricking or manipulating others… Sales is about facilitating a conversation, discovering needs and discussing solutions. It’s about doing the right thing. The goal is reaching a suitable decision. Sometimes it’s YES, other times it’s NO but it’s always in the client’s best interest. Your responsibility is to guide the conversation to the point of resolution so no one is left in limbo!

Changing perception, eliminating fear and resistance towards selling takes the pressure off, reduces stress, and allows you to relax so you can learn effective sales techniques and enjoy the sales process. For instance, the fear of rejection comes from taking “No” answers personally. An “Alternative Selling Perspective”... It’s not about you. You only feel rejected if you falsely believe the sale is about you. In reality clients are not focused on you, they are struggling with their own internal argument…Can I really justify this purchase? Is it worth it? Does it out weight or rank higher than my other priorities? It’s amazing how quickly your confidence builds, and results improve when you understand the true nature of sales. Reducing the stress, eliminating fear and creating results has an extremely positive effect on attitude, health, income, and quality of life. Be aware of “triggers”, understand the truth behind “false beliefs”, and discover new perspectives. The winning formula for overcoming fear and resistance, creating extraordinary success, and experiencing the joy in selling!

Your Healing Promotes Your Wellness by Janet Thomas hat is wellness? The Merriam-Webster dicW tionary defines “wellness” as the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal. So, to be in good health is the foundation of feeling a sense of wellness. Sounds good? It sure does to me.

My personal state of wellness was quite a journey. Although I was healthy physically, my experiences with sexual abuse and depression left me unwell emotionally. I remember longing for a true sense of wellness. I didn’t know what that would look or feel like, but I figured that I’d recognize it when I got there. My first order of business was to acknowledge that I wasn’t well emotionally; yet acknowledging to myself that I wasn’t well in that way wasn’t something I wasn’t prepared to admit. For decades I pretended that I was okay. That was the face I let the world see, yet deep down I knew that something was lacking. What was lacking was a sense of true selfregard and peace, and I didn’t know how to get it. 28

After unsuccessfully looking for my self-regard and peace in other people, places and thing such as the right job, a nice car or having money, I almost didn’t make it… literally. However, my emotional breakdown was the best thing that could have happened to me because I finally had to admit that I wasn’t well, and I began to fight for my life. My fight began by looking within myself, something that I previously avoided like the plague. The last thing I wanted to do was spend quality time with myself, yet once I shut out the outside world and checked in with myself for a little while each day all of the difference in the world was made. My road to emotional wellness was paved with non-judgment, and here’s how it worked. I told myself the truth about how I felt, about anything and everything. I learned to acknowledge how I felt by describing it without judgment. Just the facts.

I used to think that if I acknowledged that I was hurt about something, that meant that I was weak or non-deserving, or I wouldn’t be successful because I wasn’t strong. None of those ideas were a FACT. The only FACT was that I was hurting, end of story. What I learned to do was to slow down my thinking by only acknowledging what was factual. In doing so, I began to feel a sense of true self-regard and peace creeping in occasionally. As I continued to check in and simply state the facts, I allowed my feelings to express themselves safely and without judgment. My self-regard and a true sense of peace grew and grew. Before I knew it, I actually did feel a sense of wellness that had eluded me for a very long time. It was honest and it was real.

To heal means to restore to health. To restore means to bring back into existence. Which means, my dear, that it already existed. Somehow, somewhere and at some time you felt good and balanced. You enjoyed wellness. Even if you don’t remember exactly when it was that you felt that way, you felt it. It even could have been when you were a baby, or at this very moment---but the idea is that there is memory of it somewhere inside of you. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding it or the timing of it, recall a time when you felt really good; when you felt really at peace and empowered; when you felt that you could do anything or be anything you wanted. Even if you felt that way for just a split second, remember it. It is a feeling in your body and in your mind that you may not even be able to describe in words. What an exciting concept to think about! If you can imagine it, you can reconnect with it. It is available for you to heal and restore your healthy state of being. Imagine bringing back into existence that which was already there. Already. All ready. And that means you. You were already All Ready. It’s never gone. Again, what an exciting concept to think about! Your wellness -- your personal state of good health in all areas – awaits you. It is seeking you just as you desire it. Consistently use the simple tool of stating just the facts. Acknowledge what is true for you, allow your feelings to express safely, and watch your sense of wellness grow and grow.

Wellness & Fun! Letting the Inner Child Come Out by Kim Boudreau Smith all about movement, physical exercise helps Imyam me stay positive, clear in my head and opens up doors to creativity! I believe this assists me in my wellness, but this hasn’t always been the case.

As we preceded with our walk, about halfway into our 4 miles the rain start increasing, coming down in buckets, hard. Well as you all may know, when it rains it pours and it leaves puddles. So being already wet we decided to jump into the puddles and splash each other. I want all of you reading this to know 2 things:

My first business was a fitness business and it is still around. I used to work out like a feign, so maybe this business started for right reasons or wrong, who knows. What I do know is that I am here today. • This was an amazing workout that was ramping up our heart rates with different movement that we I will admit that as my corporate career was moving normally didn’t do in our usual daily walks and it upward I implemented working out 3-4 hours a day. was amazing! Yes, I said 3-4 hours a day...so very UNHEALTHY! I thought this intense schedule was helping me unwind, manage stress and increase my “energy high” and in fact it was bringing on chronic fatigue. I was working hard, working out hard and working on my wellness, so I thought. One morning at 6 a.m. I met my walking buddy for our usual 4 mile walk; it was early and raining. Nothing stops me from walking outdoors unless it is icy or lightning out. The rain was nothing, it was warm, so it was manageable and my attitude is, if you have a baseball cap on, you can handle any sort of weather. (The rain doesn’t hit your face )

30

• I really understand why kids have so much fun running, jumping, playing and getting wet in the puddles. Our inner child came out and all the worries and stress of our lives were washed away in those 4 miles . (Absolutely no pun intended!) We laughed so hard (Another great form of working out) and this by far was one of the best walks I have ever had! We let our inner child out, had a terrific time and we benefited from this physically and mentally, in a very spontaneous way. Let me tell you my clothes were like a second skin, they were so wet I could barely get out of them when I returned home. This event happened 10 years ago and it feels just like yesterday, embedded into my memory and heart.

As a business owner, my time is spent running and growing a business. I work hard, 7 days a week, but I make sure my self-care is schedule (yes SCHEDULED) in to my calendar. My fun comes to me in many forms such as with my friends, in person or on-line, where the laughter flows. Traveling and hiking are favorites as are loving on my dogs, Koda and Grace. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is all about using plants for healing. In this case, essential oils are used in a spray, or in some type of diffuser, to fill the air with aromatic fragrances meant to have certain effects. As these oils travel in the air they actually work to clean the air while allowing your sense of smell to bring added benefit. Basic Aromatherapy Spray • Fill a small spray bottle with 4 ounces of distilled water. • Place the oil, or oils, of choice in the bottle*. • Shake vigorously (before each use). • Spray around your room, in the air and on your pillow if you have chosen a relaxing formula. * DO NOT place oil in plastic bottle unless it has been diluted as certain undiluted oils, especially citrus, can cause the plastic to melt.
