NATALIE WINTER

THE ILLUSTRATED Collection
Interview
N
TIC: How is your style different to others?
atalie Winter, a 21 year old upcoming fashion blogger and professional spared a moment to be interviewed by The Illustrated Collection on her current work. From loving photography from such a young age, she speaks about the latest fashion and how it feels being a young creative of today.
N: “ My style is different to others because I don’t try too hard, I just like being comfy but cute and I try not to wear things that everyone is wearing”.
TIC: That's an interesting answer! So how would you describe your personal style? N: “I would describe my personal style as quite boy-ish, but I like to make it more feminine with certain things I wear and how I accessorise my outfits”. TIC: That’s cool! So what things do you think are big for fashion now then? TIC: Hey, Natalie! Thanks for speaking to us. First question, What do you do currently for a living?
N: “As summer approaches I think cute 90's sunglasses with tinted frames are big right now!”
N: “Hey, I am currently a freelance photographer and blogger”.
TIC: Yes, love 90’s sunnies! So then, what 5 clothing/ accessory things are you loving right now?
TIC: So on a scale of 1-10 how much do you love fashion? N: “ I’m loving my tinted sunglasses, one bright N: “ I’d say like 8. I do love coloured item of clothing in fashion, but there are things my outfit, my vintage Polo I don’t like about the fashion Sport bag, pink Air Max 90's scene and the industry in and my gold Peso ring that my general”. mum just found and passed down to me”. Interview TIC: So that’s it on the fashion front. Let’s move onto photography! How would you describe your photography style in 5 words? N: “ I would describe my photography as representing London’s multi-ethnic youth culture”. TIC: Thats a really cool! So you offer something different to your photography style then. What made you want to be a photographer and when did you start? N: “I always had a passion for photography from a young age and asked for a camera for Christmas when I was like 14. It became my hobby and so it made sense for me to take photography at college, which then led on to me studying it at university and now it has become my career!”
TIC: What's your favourite project or brand you’ve worked on or with and why? N: “My favourite project I worked on recently was shooting for Hoodlab in a London market. I loved representing London culture and I love how it is almost like a documentary of London and shows something real about where we live, yet it is also a fashion shoot which makes the clothing look good. I prefer showing something real in my fashion shoots rather than setting the whole thing up”. TIC: Alongside photography, you blog? What is it about blogging you love?

N: “I love blogging as it allows me to be creative in even more ways. I get to choose the outfits and locations. I also set up my camera and direct all the shots so I am doing the photography too. It’s fun experiencing both sides of the camera and I get to work on a wider variety of projects which keeps things different”. THE ILLUSTRATED Collection
TIC: What's your plan for the future? Do you see yourself shooting or becoming a photographer for websites like ASOS? N: “Well I’m just going to carry on doing what I’m doing now and hope that I naturally grow and progress if I keep working hard. My dream is to be a photographer but I do love blogging and I tend to get some of my photography jobs through blogging so of course I’ll carry on with that too. I have done a shoot for ASOS before and it was really fun, I can see myself doing more of this kind of thing yes and it would be so amazing to be shooting for brands like that all the time!” TIC: Finally, in the future do you see yourself owning your own fashion brand, seeing as you love fashion so much? N: “No I love working with different fashion brands but I can’t imagine myself having my own, I’d rather just take the pictures!” *Images are owned by Natalie Winter.

DESIGNER AND PHOTOGRAPHER
ABBIE SMITH

Interview
A
TIC: What are your aims and objectives for the brand?
bbie Smith, a 22 year old photographer, co-owner of her own streetwear brand KXC and blogger, speaks to The Illustrated Collection on her current work. From having various creative roles, to co-owning her own brand whilst being a photographer and a blogger! We see how she manages all of this and dig deep into what KXC is all about.
A: “Our main aim is to be in a position where we are one day stocked alongside brands we look up to. It would also be so cool to be out and about seeing people wearing our stuff”.
TIC: Who are KXC, and when did you establish your brand? A: “KXC is an independent streetwear brand started in 2010 alongside my partner Murray”. TIC: So what things do you sell?
TIC: That brings us onto our next question! Whats your plan for the future? Do you see yourself selling on big websites like ASOS? A: “We have been approached by ASOS which we are so happy about! We have turned down a lot of stockist, and are currently in talks with some shops and online stores about stocking for our upcoming collections".
A: “ We sell a range of things, including T-shirts, Long sleeves, Caps, Accessories, Hoodies, Crews”. TIC: So what do you do currently for a living?
TIC: It’s nice you have such a large range of clothing on offer! Streetwear can be a niche market, with mainly younger consumers. So who is your market?
A: “ I am currently working as a freelance photographer for a number of companies and brands including, D.Copperfield and Sole Trader. As well as this A: “Our main customers range from 16-25 but we target I co-own a streetwear brand most ages who are interested called KXC”. in supporting independent streetwear brands”. TIC: On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love fashion?
A: “ I’d have to say about 8, I love brands and I spend a lot of money on my clothes and shoes but I’m pretty happy to go out some days in a tracksuit or hoodie”.
TIC: Using less than 5 words, how would you describe KXC as a streetwear brand? A: “We describe our brand as Street, Independent, British”.

TIC: So to end the chat about KXC... Tell us why is your brand different to others? A: “All of our designs are original, or plays on things we are interested in. In terms of manufacturing, we are strict on the clothing we use, making sure all of our items have a high quality. Myself and my partner do everything ourselves, including web design, photography, graphic design, sourcing clothing. Most importantly we try not to follow trends too much. We tend to design things we love and we would want to wear and this seems to work really well for us”. TIC: Let’s throw a fun question in! If you were stuck on an island and could only keep one item from your collection, what would it be and why? 54
A: “Can I buy something specifically? If so I would take the CP Air- Mattress Parka from Ferraris 2001 inflatables collection. It turns into a tent/ air mattress so it would be pretty handy”.
better the more you shoot, even if you have the odd off day. Sometimes you’ll do things you don’t get paid for but it’s all worth it for the practice and getting your name in there!”.
TIC: Very logical thinking! Last question for you. Your creative, your a blogger, photographer and own your own brand! What drives you to work hard and do so many thing and what are your tips? A: “I have a strong end goal which I’m trying to reach. I believe it’s not going to happen unless I put the hours and work in. I also struggle to have a day off just doing nothing. I enjoy my work so I’m usually doing something whether it’s shooting, editing, designing or just nosing on Instagram for inspiration. My top tips are to keep shooting all the time. You'll only get THE ILLUSTRATED Collection
