n behalf of all the member dealerships of the Spokane New Car Dealers’ Association, I welcome you to the 2017 Spokane Auto Show. This is the 37th Show in our history, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the 2017 Show continues a longstanding tradition of presenting this unique opportunity to shop, compare and purchase your next vehicle. At the Show you’ll see — and can even drive — the latest cars, trucks and SUVs, brought to you by the world’s premier automotive manufacturers. It only happens once a year that you can find all the major brands and most popular models under one roof. The theme of this year’s Show is the Future of Automotive Technology. The planet gets smarter every year, and you’ll see this reflected in the advancements in safety, engineering and entertainment found in the vehicles on display. Be sure to visit all 22 of the exhibits at the Show, where you’ll find 27 different makes represented by 30 of our member dealers. Each exhibit features product specialists available to answer your questions, provide you with detailed information and enhance your car-buying experience. Don’t miss a visit to the VR Experience, where you can take a few laps around the track in a NASCAR simulator and see, hear and feel the excitement of a Virtual Reality headset brought to you by T-Mobile. And if you’ve got questions about automotive financing options at the Show, stop by the Washington State Employee’s Credit Union booth in Bay 4. Thank you for once again allowing us to present the 2017 Spokane Auto Show. Have a great time! Bob McLean, President Spokane New Car Dealers’ Association

2017 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 7

Y R U X U LS CAR

YOU NEED A NEW LUXURY CAR IF... ...you like having your passengers ooh and aah all the way to the farmers market.

GENESIS G90

...you think that lavish interiors shouldn’t be limited to five-star hotels. ...the throaty mufflers and tight suspensions were great fun back in the day, but now you appreciate your road time to be soft and quiet.

AUDI A4

Although there’s a lot to admire about the Audi A4 on the outside, getting behind the wheel reveals what makes the 2017 iteration so special: a spacious interior with lots of legroom, an updated industry-leading MMI infotainment system and a futuristic Virtual Cockpit that fills the entire instrument cluster. Additional features like LED running lights, ample trunk space and tri-zone climate control are just the sort of “standard extras” that have helped to define the Audi brand. The A4 starts at $34,900 and offers three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige.

LINCOLN CONTINENTAL

In Lincoln’s 2017 model lineup, the evergreen Continental is positioned front and center. The available 30-way (yep, 30) adjustable seats are just one indication of how

seriously the automaker takes luxury in its top-ofthe-range sedan. And this year’s Continental can be tricked out even further with highly customizable designer themes named Chalet, Rhapsody and Thoroughbred, thanks to Lincoln’s elite Black Label program. Front-wheel drive is standard on the $44,560 base model, with all-wheel available as an option.

The G90 has — as standard — a full range of cutting-edge safety features, a sound system to make audiophiles swoon, an elegantly appointed and roomy interior, and lavish touchscreen controls. To power this eight-speed Elysium on wheels, you can choose between a 365-hp, 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 or a much beefier 420-hp, 5.0-liter V8. Before optional trim add-ons, you’re looking at $68,100.

INFINITI Q60

PORSCHE PANAMERA

The turbo engine in the base variant of this seductively curvy four-seater is sourced from Mercedes-Benz, delivering a knockout punch of stunning Infiniti design coupled with Mercedes’ legendary engineering. One of the many advanced features in the new Q60 is the drive mode selector: Set it to Normal, Sport, Sport+, Eco or Snow to automatically adjust the car’s handling for any conditions. Coupe pricing starts at $38,950, putting luxury at a very attractive price point indeed.

GENESIS G90

As a demonstration of its commitment to its Genesis luxury brand, parent company Hyundai has doubled down on what constitutes a luxury sedan.

ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE INLANDER

With a lithe, muscular design and a top speed between 180 and 190 mph, this year’s Panamera bolsters Porsche’s reputation for creating captivating, precision-engineered luxury sports cars. Depending on the variant, you’re looking at going from 0 to 60 mph in well under four seconds. That kind of performance justifies why Porsche invested half a billion dollars into enhancing and expanding the German plant where these are made. Yet, for all its gains in looks and speed, the base MSRP of $100,950 isn’t a huge jump over the 2016 asking price.

YOU NEED A NEW SPORTS CAR IF... ...you’ve just had one of those “big” birthdays. ...you’ve found that the need for speed isn’t limited to fighter pilots. ...every time you see that neighbor in her Corvette, you remember that time somebody told you “You only live once.”

FIAT 124 SPIDER

These days Fiat is probably best known in America for its fuel-efficient compacts, but the Italian automaker has a long and celebrated sports-car heritage. Brand new for 2017, the 124 Spider evokes that history while harnessing the racing pedigree of the Mazda MX-5 Miata that serves as its platform. There are three trim levels — Classica (base), Lusso (mid) and Abarth (premium) — as well as an optional Technology collection that brings keyless entry and a touchscreen to this exciting, fleet-footed convertible two-seater. Classica starts at $24,995, with the top-tier Abarth about $3,000 more.

CHEVY CAMARO ZL1

Chevy’s stable is home to many iconic cars, the Camaro not least among them. This year’s muchanticipated, rocket-fueled Camaro ZL1 has a hulking 640-hp, 6.2-liter V8 with a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a brand new 10-speed automatic as an option. Combined with the special-edition package featuring limited-run exterior badging, details and colors in honor of the Camaro’s 50th Anniversary, this is one muscle car that’s

TOYOTA 86

destined to be recalled in wistful terms in another 50 years’ time. Both the convertible and hardtop ZL1 start at $67,140.

JAGUAR XE

Always fantasized about a Jaguar of your very own? The car, that is. Then behold the all-new XE. As an entry-level luxury sports sedan with a price tag to match, the 2017 XE puts the dream of Jaguar ownership with reach of many more customers. You can certainly spot the family resemblance to the famed F-Type in the headlights and grille, but the XE has its own identity — like a light, nimble and debonair younger sibling. The base model will run you $34,900. Optional trims (XE Premium, XE Prestige, XE R-Sport) allow for plenty of customization.

TOYOTA 86

Co-developed with Subaru as the Scion FR-S, the new 86 is Toyota’s thoroughbred entry in the sports car segment for 2017. Why the designation 86? It’s not just because it nixes the competition. The 86 is the Japanese brand’s nod to the AE86 model rear-wheel-drive Corolla, renowned for its ability to drift. When you need to, you can rely on the 86’s supportive front seats and impeccable handling to hit the corners hard, but as an everyday car it’s just downright fun to drive. Starting at $26,255.

RANGE ROVER EVOQUE CONVERTIBLE

Powered by a 240-hp engine and a versatile 9-speed transmission, the two-door Range Rover Evoque Convertible handily accepts anything you want to throw at it — no matter how challenging the terrain. And it does it in quintessential Range Rover style, thanks to a retractable top that pairs remarkably well with its broad, burly body. That unique combo means you can rumble through the Pacific Northwest highlands while taking in the forest air, or get some sun as you skim along the coastal shoreline. Fun and adventure with the Evoque begins at $41,800.

ALFA ROMEO GIULIA

Designed to offer some Italian-inspired competition to premium lines like BMW’s 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is a modern reprise of the lithe four-door sedans and wagons that cruised the Autostrade between 1962 and 1978. Its compact frame made of lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum is powered by a base 280-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which can be upgraded to a top-of-the-line 505-hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. Mamma Mia, now that’s a speedy sedan! Pricing is forthcoming.

THE SPOKANE AUTO SHOW: Closing in on 40 YEARS! The Spokane Auto Show has come a long way over the past 37 years. Having started in the old Spokane Coliseum, it later migrated to the Convention Center before making the move to its current home, the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center, in 1993. “It really was a pretty small show, maybe 30,000 square feet,” recalls Kip Nedved. “If you were to look at the bigger shows around the country, 30,000 square feet is one exhibitor.”

12 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 2017

Nedved was hired in 1994 to be the show’s producer and promoter. Before passing the baton to Don Kellman last year, Nedved helped the event grow to a size where more and more dealers were able to secure manufacturer support. As a visitor, you can see it in the huge displays and rotating turntables that give the show its exciting, professional quality. But even as the Spokane Auto Show has grown, it’s hung onto distinctive traits. First, it’s one of

ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE INLANDER

only a handful of shows in the entire country where vehicles are actually sold, not just showcased. And second, the camaraderie of the local dealers is palpable. “Through the Spokane New Car Dealers’ Association, the dealers have always been so cooperative in putting this whole thing together,” says Nedved. “It’s their show. That, more than anything else, is what makes it uniquely Spokane.”

...your last trip to see the in-laws proved it: your growing family just will no longer fit in the old Monte Carlo.

YOU NEED A NEW MINIVAN IF...

...coaching your kiddo’s baseball team means you’re now practically living in your vehicle. TOYOTA SIENNA HYBRID

...you’re looking to haul more of everything — kids, pets, Costco runs — and you want to do it with convenience, comfort and style.

S N A V I N I M & WAGONS

CHRYSLER PACIFICA

The Pacifica is making a reappearance in 2017 after Chrysler retired the model line in 2008. The break gave the automaker time to re-innovate not just the Pacifica itself but the minivan category that it pioneered over 30 years ago. The updated peoplemover can seat up to eight in flexible configurations and offers the Uconnect Theater system with HD touchscreens for back-seat passengers. There’s even a plug-in hybrid variant that will get an estimated 30 miles on a full charge. Pack up the entire family and drive off for $28,595.

TOYOTA SIENNA HYBRID

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF ALLTRACK

Another minivan that also falls under the “green” category, the Sienna Hybrid got a visual revamp inside and out for 2017, gaining an even more elegant interior with plush seating for up to seven or eight passengers depending on variant. And Toyota knows the Sienna Hybrid’s target audience: the rear splitscreen monitor lets you play two different media at once — say, a video game and a DVD — to preempt the backseat squabbles that can spoil a family outing. The feature-rich LE, SE, XLE and Limited trims build on the base L, which starts at $29,750.

Much more rugged-looking than your typical station wagon, the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack can flit between an all-weather family car and a compact hauler. Sporting cargo-friendly roof bars and all-wheel-drive, capable of easily seating five with ample storage space, it occupies the middle ground between wagon and crossover SUV. Here in the Inland Northwest, where four distinct seasons, plenty of outdoor recreation and regular family outings call for that kind of versatility, the Golf Alltrack should prove to be a sensible (and sporty) choice. Pricing begins at $25,850.

INNOVATIVE INLANDERS are more than just readers. They’re everything from millennials to soccer moms to CEOs — all with everchanging appetites for media. So we have to be more than just a paper. We’re event planners for things like Inlander Restaurant Week. We’re digital geeks offering daily news and events coverage online and on your smartphone. And we’re even philanthropists, supporting local charities and nonprofits every year.

It’s a big job for a hometown paper to keep innovating and changing with its readers. But we’re in this for the long haul — informing, supporting and maintaining the vibrant community we call home. And that will never change.

DODGE RAM POWER WAGON

YOU NEED A NEW PICKUP IF...

…you work out of your vehicle, no matter where the job takes you — even into the wilds of the Inland Northwest. …you like knowing that you can haul home just about anything you might find at Home Depot.

LOCALLY OWNED FOR OVER 35 YEARS www.foothillslincolnmazda.com (509) 324-8200 202 E North Foothills Dr. Spokane, WA 99207 1-800-669-8801 Hours: Monday-Saturday: 10am-7pm Sunday: 11am-5pm

…you like to be able to look down on all those other drivers you share the freeway with.

HONDA RIDGELINE

Returning after a two-year hiatus, the Honda Ridgeline is back with some tweaks that were worth the wait. To start with, the bed of this midsize pickup is larger and made with a special type of UV-resistant plastic that’s much hardier than the previous fiberglass liner. The fiveseater cab offers plenty of legroom and enough carrying space to fit a bike when you flip up the rear cushions. The entry RT costs $29,475 and can be leveled up to the RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E and Black Edition trims.

DODGE RAM POWER WAGON

The 4x4 Power Wagon joins the Ram’s heavy-duty 2500 line as an intrepid off-road model with highlights like tow hooks, hill descent control, Ram’s unique “Articulink” suspension and a towing capacity of more than 10,000 pounds. Everything about it shouts unbridled testosterone, right down to the vertical “Power Wagon” graphic that runs along its waistline, so it’s no surprise to find that this contemporary muscleman proudly takes its visual cues

from the “Macho Power Wagon” that ran between 1979–80. You can power up with the base model for $53,015.

FORD RAPTOR

For years, the F-150 has been America’s best-selling passenger vehicle. Rather than rest on its laurels, though, Ford has completely redesigned the versatile workhorse and dubbed it the Raptor. The resulting full-size truck has a brand new steel frame, an improved suspension, and an all-new V6 engine that delivers 411 hp despite being 40 percent smaller than the previous V8. All these improvements make the Raptor a true off-road marvel, capable of scaling mountain passes and traversing sagebrush plateaus without a second thought. The Raptor runs $48,325.

S N A D E S S T C A P M O AND C

YOU NEED A NEW SEDAN IF... …you want it all — good looks, safety, tech — and in a relatively fuel-efficient package. TOYOTA COROLLA 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

…your need for a practical car doesn’t mean you don’t care about looks. …a relaxing, cushy ride is key, either around town or out on the highway.

BUICK LACROSSE

A far cry from your grandparents’ Buick, the 2017 LaCrosse has found the elixir of youth. By managing to shed about 300 pounds, its powerful secondgen 310-hp V6 feels even more propulsive. As a result, the four-door, five-passenger sedan is simultaneously more svelte and more beefcake. Inside you’ll find a big touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto integration, heads-up display, sporty paddle shifters and rearview camera with parking sensors. It’s a quiet ride with great handling — especially with the optional upgrade to 20-inch alloy wheels. Base MSRP is $32,065.

KIA CADENZA

Kia’s flagship five-passenger sedan has been completely rethought for 2017. It’s longer, wider and sleeker, constructed with high-strength steel, and its steering, brakes and suspension have all been enhanced for better responsiveness. Under the hood, it’s now graced with an updated twin-cam V6 for plenty of spring. The driver’s seat is where you’ll notice further improvements like a more ergonomic layout, Kia’s high-tech UVO infotainment system and a surroundview monitor. Starts at

18 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 2017

$32,990, though luxury-tier upgrades like Nappa leather and a Harmon Kardon audio system are tempting options.

SUBARU IMPREZA

Subaru joined other automakers in going back to the drawing board for the 2017 model year. Its athletic new Impreza sedan and hatchback are underpinned by Subaru’s new global platform for increased rigidity and an even quieter ride. The cabin is roomier, too, while still managing to build on the impressive set of impact protection and EyeSight active safety features that made last year’s Subaru Impreza an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Small wonder that Subaru is the unofficial car of the Pacific Northwest. The Impreza starts at just $18,395.

TOYOTA COROLLA 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

As exclusive as a hand-numbered art print, the Toyota Corolla 50th Anniversary Edition will only be manufactured in a limited run of 8,000 worldwide. Available in silver, white or the distinctive Black Cherry exterior with commemorative badging, this limited-edition Corolla features Black Cherry contrast stitching on the interior — alongside highlights like Toyota’s Entune Audio Plus system, of course. If you aren’t lucky enough to get your hands on the 50th Anniversary Edition (MSRP $22,765), there’s little compromise in shifting your sights to the 2017 Corolla SE on which it’s based. ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE INLANDER

FORD FOCUS RS

The 2017 Ford Focus builds on the strong platform that’s made this model line such a hit among drivers the world over. This year Ford is offering the optional new SEL package, which introduces fog lamps, a power moonroof and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels to the existing SEL trim and the car’s fivestar safety rating from the NHTSA. Want more power? Make the leap to even higher performance with the Focus ST or RS, which are propelled by turbocharged EcoBoost V4 engines. You get a lot of car for the $16,775 starting price.

HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK

For the first time since 2003, Honda is launching an all-new hatchback version of its mega-popular Civic sedan, which has been in production since 1972. If you want to go full sporty mode, there’s a two-door coupe and a six-speed manual transmission, powered by a 174 hp, turbo four-cylinder. And with that hatchback, Honda promises the largest carrying capacity among its peers. The top-of-the-line Sport Touring edition gets you 540 watts of thumping sound along with the Honda Sensing safety system, which includes lane keeping alerts and adaptive cruise control. Entry level Civic Hatchbacks start at $19,700.

S R A C N E GRE

S D I R B & HY YOU NEED A NEW GREEN CAR OR HYBRID IF... ...you enjoy the thrill (and savings) of getting 40+ miles per gallon.

BMW i3

...breathing cleaner air and reducing dependency on oil sound like nice perks of ownership. ... your current SUV is too big — and it’s not helping your eco-warrior image.

CHEVROLET BOLT EV

Crowned this year’s North American Car of the Year, the Chevy Bolt is an affordable long-range, all-electric hatchback that gets an EPA-estimated 238 miles on a full charge. Contrary to the e-vehicle stereotype, it comfortably seats five and offers ample cargo space. As standard, the Bolt EV has a 10-inch touchscreen and electronic precision shifting. Bumping up to the Premier trim gives you leather-appointed heated seats plus surround and rear cameras. Keep in mind that the $37,495 starting price could be offset by up to $7,500 in federal tax incentives.

HYUNDAI IONIQ

Having trouble deciding whether your “green” car should be a traditional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid or all-electric? The streamlined Ioniq won’t exactly make that choice any easier, but it’s one of the few eco-friendly vehicle lines to offer all possible variants. And Hyundai has been extremely conscientious about its green credentials, making sure that recycled and sustainable materials are used throughout. The door covers are made of recycled plastic and volcanic stone, for example, and the exterior paint uses ingredients derived from soybean oil. Pricing is still to be announced.

20 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 2017

LEXUS CT

It just so happens that the greenest Lexus is also the brand’s most affordable car, which makes for a doubly attractive proposition. For 2017, the fuelefficient hatchback (43/40 mpg city/highway) based on the Prius comes in four new and intriguingly named colors: Atomic Silver, Autumn Shimmer, Blue Vortex Metallic and Caviar. It easily seats five while offering the upscale technology and safety features that characterize a Lexus. The $31,250 base MSRP will entice eco-minded drivers who are eyeing their first luxury vehicle — or luxuryfocused drivers eyeing their first hybrid.

BMW i3

The ideal urban e-vehicle, the compact BMW i3 can zip around the city for more than 100 miles on a full charge — a 50 percent increase over the previous year’s model. Better still, if you want to increase your driving radius even further, there’s an optional gas-powered range extender. The futuristic styling of this five-door hatchback boldly proclaims a new automotive era while still retaining identifiable BMW hallmarks like the distinctive front grille. Included in the $42,400 starting price is free charging at EVgo stations across America for the next two years.

FORD FUSION ENERGI

Even with the base 2017 Ford Fusion Energi, you’re getting a lot of extras: heated seats, leather upholADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE INLANDER

stery, rearview camera, 11-speaker audio system, award-winning safety features plus Ford’s hot new Sync 3 infotainment console. Those are comparable to premium-tier add-ons, and they show how much love Ford is giving its popular plug-in hybrid sedan. Around town you can cover 20 miles in the Fusion Energi’s all-electric mode, then let the frisky gaspowered fourcylinder kick in when you’re ready to take I-90 to distant parts. Starting at $31,120.

ACURA MDX SPORT HYBRID

Acura knew that the only way to improve upon the MDX — the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time — was to make it greener. So the 2017 model year brings the much-anticipated MDX Hybrid, which sees a hardy V6 engine working in tandem with one integrated electric motor powering the front wheels and two individual motors powering the rear wheels. You can roll out of the showroom in a spacious base MDX Hybrid for $43,950, but don’t overlook extras like the Entertainment package, which adds a rear DVD entertainment system and wireless speakers.

2017 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 21

s V SU YOU NEED A NEW SUV IF... ...you want one vehicle that can handle the street, the highway and the trail — all on the same day.

MAZDA CX-9

...“soccer mom” isn’t a label; it’s a badge of honor. ...you’re after more ruggedness than a sedan and more everyday practicality than a truck.

CADILLAC XT5

As a replacement to the SRX crossover, Cadillac’s best-selling model by far, the XT5 probably didn’t need to be a massive overhaul of its progenitor to be successful. But Cadillac has never been known to skimp, and the XT5 is no exception. The all-new SUV is distinctly lighter and had its engine updated for better fuel efficiency along with more power. It’s also got a new transmission controlled by hightech Electronic Precision Shift for smoother shifting, allowing you to go from Park to Drive in one clean motion. Starting at $39,990.

BMW X4

The BMW X4 helps to round out the Bavarian automaker’s impressive 2017 lineup, making sure there’s something for everyone. If full-size SUVs seem too bulky and crossover SUVs aren’t car-like enough to suit your taste, the X4 should fit the bill, thanks to its arced, coupestyle roofline and modest footprint. In keeping with BMW’s focus on customer choice, there are two engine options — the xDrive28i and the more powerful M40i — plus several enticing trim packages: Premium, M Sport, Driver Assistance Plus, Cold Weather and Technology. Starting at $45,550.

22 SPOKANE AUTO SHOW 2017

MAZDA CX-9

Mazda’s memorable “Zoom–Zoom” tagline seems to best suit the brand’s zippy sedans and sports cars. Then again, you might not have met the all-new CX-9 (CX stands for “crossover”) SUV. Roomy enough to seat seven adult passengers over three ultra-comfortable rows, the CX-9 has been praised for its handling and maneuverability — not to mention its smart casual styling and good looks. Easy to see why it made several best-of lists among the industry’s top auto magazines after debuting last year. MSRP for 2017 is yet to be published.

NISSAN Armada

If the name Armada evokes images of dominance and strength, then Nissan has succeeded in conveying the distinctive qualities of its full-size flagship SUV. The 2017 Armada launches the second generation of this rugged eight-seater that’s long been a favorite of die-hard trekkers as well as families with a thirst for adventure. With a refreshed exterior that hints at contemporary Land Rover styling, the Armada’s powerful 390hp engine makes it comfortably at home in any environment — including city streets. Starting at $44,900.

GMC Acadia

GMC is one of the automakers that helped to create the SUV niche, so it’s no surprise that the brand would continue pushing the boundaries of the category today. The redesigned 2017 GMC Acadia is actually smaller and lighter than before, but clever additions — like a mechanism that ADVERTISING SUPPLEMENT TO THE INLANDER

quickly collapses the two rows of rear seats — let you maximize space when you need it. Heated mirrors, tri-zone automatic climate control and the IntelliLink infotainment system are just some of the many features that come standard. Starting at $29,070.

JEEP COMPASS

Last year Jeep sold nearly 100,000 Compass vehicles — proof positive that city slickers and offroaders alike still regard this classic compact SUV as a great balance of reliability, performance and affordability. So Jeep has stuck with that winning formula in 2017 and instead added two trim tiers (Sport and Latitude), augmented by different packages that allow you to further customize your new Compass. The 75th Anniversary package features slick bronze accents, a sunroof and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. For just $19,940, you can drive home in a base model Compass
