Beaufort River Swim+5K postponed
By Mike McCombs
The Beaufort River Swim+5K Run scheduled for Saturday, June 6, in downtown Beaufort has been postponed.
According to Betsy Hinderliter, the director of marketing and development for the Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry, organizers are hopeful to move the event to a Fall 2020 date.
“As soon as we get a date set, I will let everyone know,” Hinderliter said in an email release. “Thank you and stay healthy!”
New this year is the addition of a 5K Run which will follow the 3.2- mile competitive open-water race and the 1-mile Fun Swim. The 5K Run, presented by Beaufort Memorial Hospital, means there will be multiple options for participants: Swim, swim and run, run, or team up for a relay.
In the 2019 event, 147 swimmers entered in the 3.2-mile race and a record-high 28 participated in the fun swim. The YMCA raised more than $15,000 for the YMCA Learn to Swim Program.
The YMCA Learn to Swim Program provides financial assistance for children, families, and individuals in the community to take swimming lessons and be safe around the water.
Cohen Bruner, 16, and his 14-year-old sister Skyler, both from Hilton Head Island, won the men’s and women’s events, respectively.

Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) is implementing an irrigation program to alleviate usage during peak hours and ensure public safety.
This move comes as the tourist and growing season puts higher demands on water supply during peak hours. These high demands can result in reduced water pressure in the distribution system and low levels in water storage tanks, both of which adversely affect the performances of fire hydrants and other fire suppression facilities.
Customers with even-numbered addresses are asked to irrigate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from midnight to 2 a.m. or from 9 a.m. to noon. Those with odd-numbered addresses are asked to irrigate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Mondays are reserved as “no irrigation days” to accommodate for the very high water demands that are typically experienced specifically on Mondays.
The guidelines were developed in cooperation with Clemson Extension Service in order to ensure that lawns are being watered at appropriate times for health and growth.
Deputy General Manager for Operations and Technical Services Patrick Burke said in a release, “We worked with the Clemson Extension to develop a plan that would strike a balance between the irrigating needs of our local landscapes and the operational needs of our water system. As a result, we’d like to encourage these new irrigation usage times, which allows our water storage tanks to fill and also smooths out peak daily water usage demands that put significant strains on the water system.”

Man arrested on child pornography charges
cies across several states assisted in the search but were unable to locate Devier.
Boaters in the area spotted the body on Sunday in an area of Bay Point Island that is difficult to access, Lucas said. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, S.C. Department of Natural Resources and Beaufort County Marine Rescue Squadron assisted in the recovery.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Lucas said.
From staff reports
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest on May 7 of Perry Oswald Scoon-Dillard of Beaufort on three charges connected to the sexual exploitation of a minor.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators received a lead from the S.C. Attorney General's Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) initiative of child pornography being uploaded to the internet from computers and/or electronic devices at 107 Joppa Road in Shell Point. Further investigation substantiated the lead and revealed that the child pornography had been uploaded by the sole occupant of the residence, the 36-year-old Scoon-Dillard.
Based on the information, Sheriff's Office investigators obtained a warrant from a Beaufort County magistrate to search the Joppa Road residence to locate and seize the computers and/or electronic devices used to upload the child pornography. Investigators also obtained warrants from the magistrate for the arrest of Perry Scoon-Dillard for three counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor 3rd Degree, a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment on each count.
On Thursday, May 7, Sheriff's Office investigators served the search warrant at 107 Joppa Road. Scoon-Dillard was at the residence at the time and was taken into custody. Investigators searched the residence and seized computers and other electronic devices.
Perry Scoon-Dillard was transported to the Beaufort County De

tention Center and incarcerated. He has since been released on bond.
In-depth forensic examinations of the seized computers and other electronic devices will be performed by the S.C. Attorney General's Office, which, pending the results of analyses, could lead to additional criminal charges.
Anyone who has information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Sergeant Jennifer Snider at 843-255-3421 or Crimestoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111, if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.
The S.C. Attorney General's Office will prosecute Scoon-Dillard for all criminal charges stemming from this ICAC investigation. Attorney General Wilson stresses all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
