Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns to ‘Supernatural’ for 300th episode “The Walking Dead” has been his television home lately, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan is walking back to a former one to help it mark a major milestone. Known these days as sinister Negan, the actor reprises the role of John Winchester – the father of demon fighters Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) – as The CW’s “Supernatural” airs its 300th episode Thursday, Feb. 7. Titled “Lebanon,” the story is set in that Kansas town, where Dad resurfaces when his sons delve deeply into the occult to help them solve a dilemma. Kurt Fuller (“Psych”) also returns to the show as Zachariah. “It was great,” the friendly Morgan says of rejoining the “Supernatural” cast and crew. “I became friends with Jensen and Jared when I was last on the show 12 years ago, and we’ve remained friends to this day. Jensen is the one who set me up with Hilarie (Burton, now Morgan’s wife); he and his wife Daneel hooked us up, so we’ve remained very close with them, but it was just great to get back on that set and be John Winchester again.” Morgan maintains he didn’t need much preparation to reprise the role: “I just went, and as soon as I was there, I felt the Winchester blood going through my veins. The process of getting into character was a lot
Negotiating with family members becomes a delicate matter. You’ll become distinctly vulnerable as soon as emotions enter the situation. Try to take a step back so you can see things with greater clarity.

easier than I ever anticipated ... and they have the same crew from 12 years ago! No one’s left. It truly is one big, happy family, and getting to be a part of the 300th episode was pretty awesome.” While cautious about giving up too many story details, Morgan allows there are “a lot of unanswered questions with John and these boys. I haven’t followed the show for 300 episodes, but I know the John Winchester I played 12 years ago and I know who I wanted him to be. That has changed through the years, and through fans, I’ll hear about John and what he’s morphed into. “I played him as a guy who very much loved his sons. Maybe he didn’t make the best parental choices, but I felt it was important that we answer some of those questions of who John is and why he did what he did.” Taking John and Negan together, Morgan admits he’s somewhat astonished to be the actor behind two of the iconic figures in TV horror-fantasy. “It doesn’t happen,” he muses. “People don’t get lucky enough to have one character like that, much less two. People will be talking about John and Negan until the day I die, I have no doubt about it. And, I got Hilarie out of the deal! I’m a lucky dude.”
A big career-related achievement is on your horizon. You’ll succeed at bringing together a large group of people for a certain event.
LIBRA
All kinds of passions will suddenly awaken in you. Your mind will be full of great ideas and every spotlight will be pointed at you. You’ll be warmly applauded and you’ll receive a medal or another token of recognition.
SCORPIO
You’ll find yourself at home more often and therefore more frequently in the company of family members. You might be burdened with responsibilities, some of them too heavy to bear.
SAGITTARIUS
Negotiating certain purchases will be to your advantage. You’ll need to raise your voice only slightly in order to be heard and respected. And don’t hesitate to verbally release your excess of emotions.
CAPRICORN
Exercise is excellent for one’s health when done in moderation. You’ll make the acquaintance of several people with whom you’ll either discuss spirituality or undertake an inspiring and gratifying activity.
AQUARIUS
It’ll be a busy week for you, especially if you have young children or a very active social life. In your love life, you’ll have the opportunity to take a trip or a romantic escapade steeped in passion.
PISCES
The harshness of winter might place a fair amount of strain on your vitality. And yet the moment will be ripe for inspiration; you might even begin work on a unique work of art.

Report: Trump lawyers’ letter er to Mueller challenges subpoenaa BY JONATHAN LEMIRE The Associated Press WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's lawyers composed a secret 20-page letter to special counsel Robert Mueller to assert that he cannot be forced to testify while arguing that he could not have committed obstruction because he has absolute authority over all federal investigations. The existence of the letter, which was first reported and posted by The New York Times on Saturday, was a bold assertion of presidential power and another front on which Trump's lawyers have argued that the president can't be subpoenaed in the special counsel's ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The letter is dated January

BY BRUCE MILLS bruce@theitem.com Four National Bank of South Carolina branch locations in Sumter and one each in Manning and Bishopville will soon get a facelift as the bank transitions its signage and other legal branding to its parent company’s name. Since January, Synovus has implemented a staggered brand transition across five states of all of its non-Synovus bank divisions, company spokesman Lee Underwood said Friday. With 38 branches in South Carolina, NBSC will complete that brand transition of signage, business cards, pens and other legal branding this month. The signage transition in Sumter County is scheduled for the middle of the month,
Underwood said. NBSC was actually founded in Sumter in 1905. Synovus acquired NBSC in 1995. Currently, NBSC has 340 employees. Having one brand name will help with marketing and customer recognition across the Southeast, according to Underwood. NBSC Sumter Market President Melissa White said she was proud of the reputation that NBSC has built in conjunction with Synovus and is looking forward to the future. “Adopting the Synovus name while maintaining our local, relationship-centered delivery model will increase awareness of our regional presence, our financial capabilities and our ability to meet the needs of customers and prospects,” White said.

Nicole Kidman’s Top 10 BYMovies JAY BOBBIN “Lion” (2016): In this fact-inspired drama, Kidman gives a heartfelt, Oscarnominated performance as half of an Australian couple who adopt youngsters from India. “The Interpreter” (2005): Much rests beneath the surface of Kidman’s performance as a United Nations translator whose knowledge of an assassination plot lures a government agent (Sean Penn). “Cold Mountain” (2003): Kidman is solid as a woman waiting for her true love (Jude Law) to return from Civil War duty. “The Hours” (2002): Oscar came calling for Kidman, prosthetic nose and all, for her work as writer Virginia Woolf. “The Others” (2001): The conviction Kidman puts into the role of a woman trying to protect her children, in a seemingly haunted house, goes a long way toward making this scary show work. “Moulin Rouge!” (2001): Kidman sings! As does virtually everyone else in director Baz Luhrmann’s Parisian romance. “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999): Of all of Kidman’s screen teamings with exhusband Tom Cruise, this one gets the edge, thanks to director Stanley Kubrick’s typically challenging creative structure. “Practical Magic” (1998): More fun and flirty than usual, Kidman is enjoyable as one of two sibling witches – Sandra Bullock being the other – who spell doom for any man who falls for them. “To Die For” (1995): Kidman is a killer, literally and figuratively, as a television weathercaster who uses a young admirer (Joaquin Phoenix) to get rid of her husband (Matt Dillon). “Dead Calm” (1989): Before she came to Hollywood, Kidman made her biggest mark in this thriller about a couple terrorized on their yacht.

Nicole Kidman a major change-up Despite anything and everything she’s done before, Nicole Kidman puts forth a completely new image in “Destroyer.” It’s acting that calls attention to itself, but that’s because the actress displays a toughness quite unexpected of her, particularly at this point in a career that has gone along in a linear and comfortable way. Working with a unique director in Karyn Kusama (“Girlfight”), who has a penchant for rough-around-the-edges characters, Kidman digs deep for her portrait of a police detective whose troubled personal history impacts her latest investigation. Indeed, “Destroyer” is a murder mystery, but it’s also a profile of a person who has plenty to come to terms with ... and whether she’ll be able to is a mystery in and of itself. Kidman’s Erin Bell is a Los

“THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB” Lisbeth Salander, of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” fame, gets quite an overhaul in this lesseffective tale wrapped around the character. Now played by Emmy winner Claire Foy (“The Crown”) she still has the same neo-Goth appearance and outsider attitude, but much of what makes her tick goes unmentioned as she tries to steal a computer program that a security veteran fears could launch a nuclear war in the wrong hands. Foy gives the part her all – particularly when it comes to Lisbeth’s physicality – and the principally foreign cast helps add atmosphere, but the touches of Rooney Mara and director David Fincher (the latter still an executive producer here) are sorely missing this time, and it’s easy to tell that. DVD extras: audio commentary by director Fede Álvarez and screenwriter Jay Basu; four “making-of” documentaries; deleted scenes. ›› (R: AS, N, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray and On Demand)

Angeles police detective with sketchy personal and professional pasts, and part of the conceit of “Destroyer” is that it moves back and forth in time to explain who Bell was ... and how that affects who she is in such a major way. Suffice it to say that an undercover operation she was involved in, while in the FBI, went spectacularly wrong and left Bell as clearly damaged goods. Her current pursuit of a master bank robber (Toby Kebbell) isn’t just a case in and of itself, it’s also seen by Bell as a way to redeem herself for the wrongs in her career to date. She’s also trying to put her teen daughter (Jade Pettyjohn) on a better path, particularly where romance is concerned, despite the dicey relations Bell has with her own ex (Scoot McNairy). The time-bending element of “Destroyer” certainly isn’t new to movies, and it’s used very intentionally to keep viewers on their figurative toes here. In fact, it takes virtually the entire film to get the timeline straight – which ultimately turns out to be more a flaw than something creatively praiseworthy, since the audience can’t be blamed for simply giving up on that eventually. The problem there is how it affects the full picture of Erin Bell, meaning Kidman has to work all the harder in keeping the character engrossing. It’s to her immense credit that she succeeds, repeatedly coming up with elements in the performance that make you marvel that it’s Nicole Kidman you’re watching. She knew what she was getting into here, and she was ready. Whether others are ready for her in “Destroyer” is a big question, but the odds are that they aren’t. And when it comes to being surprised in a theater, that’s a good thing.
