THE LUCKIEST SIGNS THIS WEEK: LIBRA, SCORPIO AND SAGITTARIUS
Week of November 25 to December 1, 2018 ARIES You’ll distinguish yourself in front of a large crowd of people. You’ll have a streak of success — all of it well deserved. You’ll receive a mark of recognition or some kind of nomination and will get applause.
TAURUS A big household cleaning is in order. Uncluttering your living space will unclutter your mind too. A moment will arise in which you will absolutely have to speak up.
GEMINI You might receive some criticism, or you might have to deal with people who will be intentionally vague with you. You can expect a bunch of emotions to surface, but with patience and diplomacy, you’ll come out on top.
CANCER
Ivar begins his bloody reign as Season 5 of ‘Vikings’ resumes Clive Standen
If, like Shakespeare’s King Henry, the head that wears the crown lies uneasily, then consider Ivar the Boneless one tormented soul. As Season 5 of History’s “Vikings” resumes Wednesday, Nov. 28, Alex Hogh Andersen’s pathologically cruel Norseman has ascended to the throne of Kattegat and his tyrannical reign has ushered in a new Dark Age in Scandinavia, a reign that is sure to be challenged by the sons of the late Viking ruler Ragnar. Rollo (Clive Standen), now the Duke of Normandy, arrives in Kattegat apparently a changed man, but can Ivar trust him in any dealings? And then, of course, there is Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), the woman who killed Ivar’s mother, who has fled his murderous forces with son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and has designs on retaking Kattegat. Which puts a target squarely on her back. “That has always been number one on the to-do list,” Andersen says. “But he’s of course put in all his effort and all his energy into that but while doing so, you lose track of what’s happening back in Kattegat. ... So it’s a lot of doubts and a lot of things in his life that are new to him and that he really needs to adapt to. Yeah, tough time ahead of him.” Another challenge comes in the form of Rollo, the brother of Ragnar, who seeks his due after lending Ivar his army and helping him take Kattegat. Rollo may be older and looking like French aristocracy
BY GEORGE DICKIE
You’ll be offered a fairly large sum of money through an insurance claim or an inheritance. You’ll have to show tact and diplomacy amidst a situation in which all sides risk becoming a bit impatient.
LEO You’ll have a surplus of energy that you’ll need to teach yourself to effectively channel. Try to do a bit of physical activity; otherwise your mood will suffer. You’ll need to unwind at some point this week.
VIRGO
but deep down still is Rollo, a guy who looks out for Rollo above all else. “Rollo seems to be coming home to be in cahoots with Ivar and people are confused by that,” Standen explains. “Why would Rollo be Team Ivar? Why wouldn’t he be Team Lagertha? And I just like to think Rollo is always Team Rollo. “So it seems that now he’s a leader of people, he has to have the people of Francia to look after and to put first. So the politics have to be dealt with first. He comes home to service Ivar and to look after his people as a good ruler would do. But it also gives him the perfect opportunity to travel for work and also to catch up with some old ghosts, and he comes back to kind of open some old wounds up and put salt in others. So yeah, I think it gives him the opportunity to deal with some stuff that has long been playing on his mind.” Which, of course, Ivar is painfully aware of. “Rollo is not one who is easy to throw around or easy to manipulate,” Andersen says. “He’s an experienced fellow. He’s full of power and he’s established in a different country. ... But of course for Rollo to give Ivar his entire army and helping him get the throne in Kattegat, that comes with a price and Ivar’s really trying to figure out what that is. Is Rollo saying what he’s just saying or what’s the deal here? Because he’s a smart fellow and it really comes with a price to get the throne.”
You’ll have trouble getting to sleep because you’ll have many ideas running through your mind. You’ll be inspired by the thought of setting out on a new career path, and opportunities to forge ahead will present themselves.
LIBRA You’ll find yourself at the centre of a large crowd or you’ll take part in an event that will bring together a good number of people. Although this will be useful for you professionally and financially, these people will be demanding and sometimes exhausting.
SCORPIO At this time of year, a number of businesses make big changes. Despite worries and anxieties, you’ll turn the situation to your advantage. You’ll climb higher, while some of your coworkers risk suspensions.
SAGITTARIUS The idea of setting out on a major trip on a whim will stimulate your imagination. It’s possible that you’ll have to take care of some urgent work on your house. You’ll have a fairly large sum of money at your disposal.
CAPRICORN You’ll be faced with some fairly tough choices and you might change your plans multiple times. Some patience will be required for things to fall into place and for you to finally know what direction to take.
AQUARIUS It isn’t always easy to strike a balance in managing the different domains of your life. A few small adjustments at home will allow you to get there. You’ll need some extra sleep to keep your immune system from weakening.
PISCES The long-awaited inspiration you needed to develop your own business will come. You’ll discover some ambitious new professional goals that will bring out the best in you. You’ll meet some people you’ll be glad to associate with.

Report: Trump lawyers’ letter er to Mueller challenges subpoenaa BY JONATHAN LEMIRE The Associated Press WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's lawyers composed a secret 20-page letter to special counsel Robert Mueller to assert that he cannot be forced to testify while arguing that he could not have committed obstruction because he has absolute authority over all federal investigations. The existence of the letter, which was first reported and posted by The New York Times on Saturday, was a bold assertion of presidential power and another front on which Trump's lawyers have argued that the president can't be subpoenaed in the special counsel's ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The letter is dated January

BY BRUCE MILLS bruce@theitem.com Four National Bank of South Carolina branch locations in Sumter and one each in Manning and Bishopville will soon get a facelift as the bank transitions its signage and other legal branding to its parent company’s name. Since January, Synovus has implemented a staggered brand transition across five states of all of its non-Synovus bank divisions, company spokesman Lee Underwood said Friday. With 38 branches in South Carolina, NBSC will complete that brand transition of signage, business cards, pens and other legal branding this month. The signage transition in Sumter County is scheduled for the middle of the month,
Underwood said. NBSC was actually founded in Sumter in 1905. Synovus acquired NBSC in 1995. Currently, NBSC has 340 employees. Having one brand name will help with marketing and customer recognition across the Southeast, according to Underwood. NBSC Sumter Market President Melissa White said she was proud of the reputation that NBSC has built in conjunction with Synovus and is looking forward to the future. “Adopting the Synovus name while maintaining our local, relationship-centered delivery model will increase awareness of our regional presence, our financial capabilities and our ability to meet the needs of customers and prospects,” White said.

Gerard Butler’s Top 10 Movies BY JAY BOBBIN “Den of Thieves” (2018): Butler is perfectly brawny as a troubled Los Angeles police detective on a collision course with a vicious robbery team. “Olympus Has Fallen” (2013): A nicely rugged Butler plays a former Secret Service man who literally battles his way back to honor when terrorists invade the White House. “Chasing Mavericks” (2012): The part of a famously radical surfer is a fine fit for Butler in this fact-inspired drama. “Machine Gun Preacher” (2011): Butler is quite effective in the true story of an unlikely savior of indentured youngsters in the Sudan. “How to Train Your Dragon” (2010): Milking his Scottish roots, Butler is distinctive as the voice of Stoick the Vast in this animated fantasy. “Law Abiding Citizen” (2009): A not entirely unsympathetic Butler is excellent as a grieving man determined to even the score with those who let the killers of his wife and child go free. “RocknRolla” (2008): A wonderfully gritty Butler plays one of the thieves involved in dealings and double-crossings in London’s underworld. “P.S. I Love You” (2007): In a role that set him up for romantic comedies, Butler is hugely engaging – mainly in flashbacks – as a deceased man mourned by his wife (Hilary Swank). “300” (2006): Much of the film’s imagery is computer-generated, but there’s no mistaking Butler’s very real physicality as King Leonidas in the often brutal saga of the Spartans’ uprising.

Gerard Butler captains ‘Hunter Killer’
“Hunter Killer” wants to be another “The Hunt for Red October” – or any Tom Clancy story, for that matter – but despite a good cast, it strays from the necessary course of being tight and tense. In fact, it takes quite a while to figure out what it’s actually about. It spends considerable time aboard an American submarine commanded by Gerard Butler before we learn what its mission really is: To retrieve and protect the president of Russia, who’s been deposed in a military coup. First, though, Navy SEALs have to reach that leader and extract him, then get him to the sub.
Sissy Spacek and Robert Redford
“The Phantom of the Opera” (2004): It’s no small feat to play the title character in one of the most popular musicals of all time, and Butler pulls it off impressively.
“SEARCHING” Always noteworthy as a supporting player, John Cho (“Star Trek,” the television version of “The Exorcist”) takes the lead in a compelling way in this drama about a man determined to locate his missing daughter (played as a teenager by Michelle Le) with a big assist from high tech. His search takes him through every form of modern communication, including her emails and socialmedia accounts – as well as traffic cameras and streaming videos – to try to figure out her situation and her whereabouts. “Will & Grace’s” Debra Messing also is featured as a detective on the case. DVD extras: three “making-of” documentaries;

Gerard Butler
Thus, the setup is established for a showdown between crews and vessels from different countries, so you have every reason to expect a Clancy brand of suspense. Indeed, with the combined military-melodrama elements of “Hunter Killer,” you’d figure this has all the makings of a thrilling entry in the genre ... but it moves at a degree that makes a snail look downright speedy. That would seem pretty tough to accomplish, particularly with SEALs in action on the ground, yet this picture slows such activity down sufficiently enough to notice. Appropriately for the occasion, the release of “Hunter Killer” was slow, too: It was filmed two years ago, when it clearly thought it was ahead of real-world results. Perhaps the most obvious example of that here is the casting of Caroline Goodall of “Schindler’s List” as the U.S. president, and in retrospect, perhaps that was a major reason the release was held up. Known for his screen brawn along with his sly and charismatic humor, Butler should have an ideal role as the sub captain. He does what he can with it – especially in the first half of the picture, before the whole plot kicks in – and it’s no small thing that he holds interest as long as he does, Whether in a romantic comedy or an action tale, Butler always is watchable, and the filmmakers are lucky (but only to a point) that he always carries that trait with him. Then-Oscar-winner-to-be Gary Oldman, actorrapper Common and the late Michael Nyqvist also are featured, so the problem with “Hunter Killer” clearly isn’t in the acting. The trouble is that its pace is set to cruise when it should be at full throttle.
