Niecy Nash-Betts readily points out that less than one percent of FBI employees are Black women, a fact that made her jump at her latest project coming to ABC.In“The Rookie: Feds,” a dramedy spinoff of “The Rookie” that premieres Tuesday, Sept. 27, NashBetts (“Reno 911!,” “Claws”) stars as Simone Clark, a former high school guidance counselor and recent empty nester who decides that at 48, it’s time to pursue her life’s ambition of becoming an FBI agent, thus making her the oldest rookie in the Bureau.
But, she adds, “Simone is an A student. In my mind, Simone is a Virgo – attention to detail, want to make sure I get it right, I don’t want to miss anything. And I feel like Raineesha, if I had to categorize her by Zodiac, she’s probably a Pisces – just a lover. And that’s all she is concerned about most times.”
So Simone embraces her next act but is determined to do it her way. While this often gets her in trouble, Nash-Betts says Simone can charm her way out of most situations. And she’s a big flirt – with both men and women.
She’s also arguably one of its most unconventional as her outside-the-box way of doing things often puts her at odds with her unit chief, Special Agent Matthew Garza (Felix Solis, “Ozark”), and causes agita for her training agent, Carter Hope (James Lesure, “Las Vegas”).
“I thought it was important to show a couple of things,” explains Nash-Betts, who is also an executive producer. “One, that women, Black women can pop up anywhere and deserve a seat at the table.“And also it’s very interesting,” she continues, “to show people in their second and sometimes third act ... . Being in the FBI had been a dream deferred for 20 years but she gave in to raising her children and other people’s children because she was a guidance counselor for 20 years before doing a pivot to say, ‘This is the last chance I’m gonna have to do this, so let me go for it.’ ”

I think what I and others saw in them embodying these roles specifically was their chemistry and their dedication to approaching their characters with as much sympathy and compassion as they possibly could and a very concerted effort to bring about the most true-to-life sort of dynamic that happens in a relationship such as these, which are incredibly abusive. But it’s not about trying to lay the blame on one particular person although ultimately Brian did kill Gabby. That’s clear ...
But our goal with the film has always been if somebody watches this and they’ve been in a position where they think maybe their relationship isn’t going so well or it’s abusive or one-sided in any way, there’s an inclination to keep fighting to hold onto that relationship no matter what. Right? So if somebody could watch this film and see that when you’re having those doubts, when you’re in those moments where you’re questioning that fundamental fact about your relationship, that’s when you need to move on. Because waiting another week, another month, another day could be all it takes for it to turn another way.

“Public Enemies” (2009): As Pretty Boy Floyd, Tatum makes a convincing mobster in this saga of several of the underworld’s most notorious figures.
And he’s not the only attraction of the 2017 crime caper, which Showtime offers Friday, Sept. 30. It brought director Steven Soderbergh back to the screen in fine form, with a story that’s not that far in basic concept from his “Ocean’s Eleven” updates, here but still is quite original in terms of its very colorful characters.
Among his many talents, Soderbergh knows how to assemble a terrific cast, and he did so again here. His “Magic Mike” star Channing Tatum plays a personally and professionally troubled man who conspires with his war-veteran brother (Adam Driver) to rob North Carolina’s Charlotte Motor Speedway – and one of the others they enlist is Craig, as an ebullient Southern convict they have to spring from jail for the heist, then put back in.
‘Logan Lucky’ means luck for movie fans
Of course, the foraging-for-food subgenre of foodie TV has been expanding over the past decade or so and the following is just a fraction of what is

Much of the pleasure of “Logan Lucky” comes from the sense of enjoyment you can feel from its performers, all of whom seem to appreciate that they have good material that isn’t meant to be taken too seriously. That lets them loosen up with it, and nowhere is that more evident than with Craig, who obviously relished getting as far as possible as he could from Agent 007.
“Logan Lucky” (2017): Director Steven Soderbergh’s clever comedy about a planned autorace-track heist features Tatum as a conspirator in the crime.
“Magic Mike” (2012): There was a lot invested for Tatum in this drama (and its sequel), since his own experiences as a male stripper fueled the film.
In “Chefs vs. Wild,” an eight-episode series premiering Monday, Sept. 26, two world class chefs are dropped in the wilderness, where they’ll be tasked with not only surviving but also foraging enough wild ingredients to create a restaurant-worthy, five star meal. After a head-tohead competition in a wilderness kitchen, the final products are then judged by wild foods expert Valerie Segrest and chef and adventurer Kiran Jethwa, who is also the host.
“The Lego Movie” (2014): He’s voice-only here, but Tatum surely captures the brawn and heroism needed for the sound of Superman.
“Wild Harvest” (Available on YouTube): “Survivorman” Les Stroud and chef Paul Rogalski are your guides for this series that originally aired on PBS stations, in which they explore the culinary potential of wild ingredients in locations across Canada and the United States. Among their stops: the Oregon coast for mussels and wild radish; the Canadian Rockies for horsetail and dandelion; Alberta for grouse and Labrador tea; and Ontario for lambsquarters and raspberries.
“Foxcatcher” (2014): Tatum broke through to the ranks of Oscar-caliber movies with this true tale of sibling wrestlers under the spell of an eccentric patron.
“Logan Lucky” just wants to give audiences a laid-back, fun time. That, it does, and for that, everyone who watches it is lucky indeed.

“Dear John” (2010): Tatum is affecting in Nicholas Sparks’ story of a soldier whose letters from the girl he left back home (Amanda Seyfried) keep him going.

The “Logan Lucky” screenplay is credited to a Rebecca Blunt, who turned out an extremely assured and effective first movie script – if, indeed, there really is a “Rebecca Blunt.”

It’s reportedly been confirmed that was a pseudonym used by Soderbergh’s wife, former entertainment reporter Jules Asner. However, Soderbergh himself has handled various aspects of his movies by assuming aliases for them in those jobs; he’s played so coy about the background of the alleged Ms. Blunt, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if he had a hand in the writing here, too.
“Original Fare” (Available on PBS online and YouTube): From PBS Food comes this foodie/ adventure series that follows host Kelly Cox as she hunts, forages and farms her way around the globe to search for the best ingredients our planet has to offer. Her travels take her to places such as Bodega Bay Calif., to hunt for gaper clams; Texas Hill Country to check out the wine; South Carolina to gather oysters; and Puget Sound, Wash., to catch crabs for crab rangoon.

He still was the screen’s James Bond at the time, but for a taste of Daniel Craig’s versatility, look no farther than “Logan Lucky.”
At a time when grocery prices are going through the roof, foraging for one’s own ingredients seems like a good idea. And as it turns out, a tasty one as well, judging by a culinary competition series coming to Hulu.

Zealand, Peru, Tasmania and Morocco, to dive, forage, fish and even jump out of helicopters for extraordinary ingredients, from which he will create meals certain to impress the locals.
Gleeson also populate the story. Some of their characters offer major surprises even if the crime itself is pretty straightforward, which doesn’t make whether it pans out any less suspenseful.

That’s the correct answer – or question – as ABC spins off the concept (last staged on “Jeopardy!’ in 2015) into its own series starting Sunday, Sept. 25. Mayim Bialik, who splits hosting duties with Ken Jennings on the syndicated weeknight edition of the parent contest, presides over sessions that pit three personalities against one another to play for charity.
“I have no sneaking suspicions when it comes to this arena,” Bialik says with a laugh in maintaining she didn’t foresee an every-week “Celebrity Jeopardy!” coming. “Not to compare, but ‘Jeopardy!’ requires a lot of intellectual capacity, so it’s a different kind of competition ... and one that’s especially fun to have celebrities on.”

A delicate balance results among politicians, police officers, guards, convicts and McLusky and his own relatives. The cast also includes Emmy winner Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”), two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird and Tobi Bamtefa. The pilot episode’s director, Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”), is an executive producer (along with Sheridan, Dillon and Renner) of the show that counts MTV’s production arm among its makers. It has been renewed for a second season.
“So Help Me Todd,” premiering Thursday, Sept. 29. Harden plays Margaret Wright, whose legal professionalism contradicts the scruffier nature of her son Todd (“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” and “Pitch Perfect” alum Skylar Astin), an exprivate eye taking whatever jobs he can get. His help on a case prompts her to hire him as her investigator, and possibly to bridge the gap between them. “It’s a lovely bubble that’s floating right now,” the pleasant Harden says of her career fortunes lately, “and it feels fantastic, but we know it will pop. What goes up must come down, and that’s the life of being in this business – so when it’s happening (on the positive side), I really cherish every moment. It feels good.”

The 1960s sitcom about a somewhat monstrous family remains a classic, but how the clan came to be is recounted in this prequel movie from someone well-known for his taste for the unusual, writerdirector Rob Zombie. Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie (Rob’s wife) play Herman and Lily, who accept each other’s out-of-the-ordinary nature in starting a romance that Lily’s vampirish father doesn’t approve of. “So Help Me Todd” (on which Dr. Phil McGraw is an executive producer) keeps the rules of the series game largely the same. “You have do it really fast,” she reflects. “It’s almost like theater, except that you don’t get all the rehearsals, so you have to come in and figure things out right away. And I find that fun.”
