OUR MISSION

To strengthen Jewish life and identity in our community, provide for Jewish people in need, and to promote support for Israel.

Dear Friends, Thank you for your support of The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee! We had an outstanding year and are thrilled to share some of the highlights with you in our 2017-18 Impact Report. Without you, none of this would be possible. The mission of our Federation is to strengthen Jewish life and identity in our community, provide for Jewish people in need, and promote support for Israel. In order to accomplish our mission, we partner with individuals and organizations locally and throughout the world. By engaging with both the Jewish and secular communities, we build relationships that allow us to broaden the menu of touch points for individual engagement, and allow our donors to match their philanthropic goals with needs anywhere in the world. This year, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel. Together with our partner organizations, thousands of individuals gathered as a community to experience Israel through food, film, educational programs, shopping, trivia contests and more! Our year-long celebration also included several missions to Israel, where teens, mothers, friends and community leaders experienced the beauty and rich culture of Israel first-hand and made life-long connections with her people. Our goal is to create a thriving local community that embraces diverse individuals, offers meaningful Jewish experiences, and is at the forefront of the next Jewish renaissance. This year, we have taken great strides to accomplish this goal:

Through our collaborations with local, national and international organizations, we addressed core needs for those at risk, such as food and medical care, provided Jewish connections and holiday celebrations for home-based elderly and Holocaust survivors, and offered opportunities for area children and teens to attend Jewish overnight camp and religious school; Our events and programs enabled thousands of individuals to express themselves Jewishly, in whatever ways they chose; In the first year of the community LIFE & LEGACY ™ program, our Federation secured legacy commitments from 55 donors, representing more than $1.9 million in promised gifts to help ensure our Jewish future in Sarasota-Manatee.

As we look toward to the future and prepare to commemorate the 60th anniversary of our Federation, we recognize that the Federation of yesterday was an organization that simply raised money and provided funds to others to do their work. Today, our Federation is a vibrant organization that actively creates programs and disburses grants based on our priorities, goals and objectives. We look forward to continue working with you toward fulfilling our vision of a vibrant Jewish community! Sincerely,

Michael Ritter President

you are strengthening our relationships with Israel

12

Since our inception, we have been an advocate for and ally to the Jewish state and its people. We lead several mission trips throughout the year for our community, both Jewish and inter-cultural, to feel connected to our homeland and witness the state’s leadership on the world stage in medicine, technology, agriculture and more. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, local students are able to experience Israel firsthand. In addition, during the past year, our entire Jewish community was able to make a personal connection to Israel with our community shaliach, an Israeli who spent a year in Sarasota-Manatee promoting understanding of the Jewish State and its ideals.

At the core of our work beats the heart and soul of Israel.
