BY HARRY SIMONS
Philanthropists Dr Susan and Professor Henry Samueli have donated $34 million to establish a cancer research institute at Beilinson Hospital, Petah Tikva.
Professor Gal Markel, who also directs the Davidoff Cancer Center, will head up the institute.
The Samueli Institute will comprise intelligence experts, artificial intelligence, behavioural researchers, cancer scientists and clinical team of the Davidoff Center. One of the largest databases in the world is available to the Institute under general rights.
Markel is delighted the Davidoff Center is leading pioneering research into cancer treatment.
He reportedly said. “We strive to break through from the molecular level to the digital level, with the aim of curing and extending the life expectancy of cancer patients, while improving their quality of life. Together we will decipher the map of cancer and its treatment anew.”
He added: “We will create new insights based on hitherto untested information axes, which will be refined for development of original approaches and technological solutions or in partnership with experts and industries from all over the world.”
