Norwood ‘funday’ raises £22,500
Over 1,500 people attended Norwood’s Carnival at The Grange Academy, Bushey on Sunday.
The inclusive summer funday event, which raised £22,500 for vital services, was designed for people with a range of needs and abilities in an accessible surrounding. Residents from at Norwood’s supported living homes, support workers and volunteers attended.
Fairground style activities for all ages included a bungee jump, animal rides, carousel and balloon modelling. Carnival challenges corner included beat the goalie and obstacle course. The carnival crafts area offered hair braiding, a glitter bar, jewellery making, slime and edible bracelets.
Activities for young people with sensory needs included a quiet area, soft play and silent disco.
Music and singing sessions were provided by Sensory 4 Tots, Ilana Banana, Linzie Musical Group and Ady’s Babies Music Group.
The event also featured a concert stage with performances from musical acts Soul Jump, HJPS choir, Sinai Jewish Primary School Choir, Brass Beats, and dance acts Stage Coach Stanmore & Harrow Weald, North London Stars and Vanessa Class School of Dance.
The carnival was preceded by a mini sponsored cycle challenge for Norwood’s youngest supporters. Nineteen children raised over £3,250 in sponsorship.
Norwood Chief Executive Naomi Dickson was “blown away” by the event.
She said: “The people we support were at the heart of the event, not only attending, enjoying, eating and meeting, but volunteering helping and supporting. Mingling in the crowds were people who use our services, supporters, staff and volunteers, all enjoying the atmosphere and each other’s company. We demonstrated that inclusivity isn’t something to talk about, but something we do well. Events like these are at the heart of Norwood’s values.”
Sponsors included Panther Securities Plc, Gardnor Group, Suzie & Andrew Miller and Phase Two Senior Club.
