CREATING HANDCRAFTED FURNITURE THAT IS HERE FOR GOOD
For more than 40 years, The Joinery has consciously moved against the current in furniture manufacturing. Our pieces celebrate master craftsmanship over mass production; distinctive, hand-selected hardwoods over composites; uncompromising service and a lifetime of value versus a too-soon destiny with a landfill.
Our design team is a diverse group that draws on talent from every facet of our company. Through collaboration we produce furniture that is beautiful and functional. Our standard lines range from midcentury to modern to traditional, and we can customize our designs to meet the needs of each individual project. Each piece brings a warmth and thoughtfulness that will help elevate any space. And our shop capabilities allow us to work on projects ranging from individual pieces to outfitting an entire business.
We proudly work with architects, designers, and end users to bring their ideas to life. Our team is here to support you throughout all phases of your project with services including design, rendering, hardware specification, and delivery and installation. With an understanding of the complexity and demands of commercial projects, we take great pride in offering support and quick response time to help our partners maximize their efficiency and meet key timelines.
If you have specific requirements that you can’t find in this catalog, contact us to discuss custom options.
We invite you to visit our Portland showrooms; our downtonw flagship store at 922 S.W. Yamhill in downtown Portland, and our combination woodshop and showroom at 9175 N. Bradford at the foot of the St. Johns bridge.
SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES
The Joinery is recognized for its extensive commitment to sustainable business practices. Since 2010 we have been a certified B Corporation™ — companies committed to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. We have been regularly honored on B Corp’s “Best for the Environment” list, as well as Oregon Business Magazine’s 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon. In 2016, The Joinery was honored as one of Oregon’s Most Admired Companies by the Portland Business Journal.
COMMUNITY
The Joinery is involved with our community in many ways. Our Design Internship Program provides interns with hands-on experience and challenges them to design and pitch their own piece for inclusion in our standard line. We supply local high school woodshops with donations, host tours of our manufacturing space for their field trips, and support the growth of future wood workers through our Builder and Finish Apprentice Programs. We also donate annually to Friends of Trees along with numerous other local charitable causes each year.
WOOD SOURCING
The Joinery offers a variety of different wood species for our standard products and frequently searches out other distinctive woods in response to specific customer requests. In all cases we seek to find an environmentally responsible source. Much of our lumber is certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council, which maintains the highest standards in the country for environmental stewardship. The overwhelming majority of our wood is either locally sourced from Oregon and Washington, FSC certified, or both.

Handpicked lumber, unique and individualized layouts, classic joinery techniques, hand finished surfaces… each step in our process is intended to produce the highest quality furniture. The Joinery uses only high-grade, solid hardwood lumber. Each builder hand selects boards based on color and grain match. Our standard wood species include Cherry, Maple, Eastern Walnut, Oregon White Oak, Madrone, and Western Walnut. We can source other wood species upon request.
Contact us to request wood samples, which are available in all six standard species with our standard oil finish. Alternatively, you may make your request directly from our website product pages.
Our Wood Finish
We offer a variety of finishes based on the intended use of the furniture. For pieces that will be in low traffic areas, we recommend our hand-rubbed finish composed of The Joinery’s proprietary blend of clear oils. Our oil finish provides excellent protection and durability while maintaining the natural beauty of the wood. It does not show fingerprints, requires minimal upkeep, and is easy to repair. For pieces that will be in high traffic areas, we recommend a conversion varnish; a highly durable finish that improves stain and water mark resistance while showcasing the beauty of the wood.
Product Care
You can fully expect our handcrafted furniture to be admired and enjoyed for years to come. Depending on the hardwood species you select, your furnishings from The Joinery will be affected by light, temperatures and humidity differently. We recommend the use of coasters or trivets to prevent heat and moisture contact directly on the furniture piece and periodically move items sitting on the wood surface so the patina develops evenly. If you have any questions regarding product care, please contact us and we will be happy to assist your needs.
Prevention and Maintenance Service
Participation in the Prevention and Maintenance Service is limited to the Greater Portland Metro area. Every six months, The Joinery Finishing Team will provide on-site servicing to keep your furniture in top condition.
The service includes:
• Hand sanding and polishing to remove small blemishes or rough spots
• Surface conditioning
• Levelling
Please contact us for further details.

Delivery & Pick-ups
No matter where you live, our furniture can be delivered to your doorstep.
WHITE GLOVE DELIVERY: For deliveries within Oregon, we will arrange for your furniture to be brought into your home, placed, and assembled. Delivery personnel will remove all packaging materials, but cannot move your existing furniture, attach anything to walls, or connect electronic equipment unless such services have been discussed prior to delivery with your salesperson. Additional fees will apply. For white glove delivery outside of Oregon, we can recommend third-party carriers who provide exceptional service. The carrier will work with you directly to schedule the delivery.
CURBSIDE DELIVERY: Furniture will be crated by The Joinery and delivered to your curbside by a third-party carrier. You are then responsible for unpacking and disposing of crate and placing the furniture in home.
Lead Times
The Joinery commercial furniture is typically built to order in twelve weeks. Orders may be expedited to a ten or eight week lead time on a case-by-case basis. Alternatively, you may purchase one of the many pieces of furniture off of our showroom floor, most of which are available immediately. Check with us for current availability.
Warranty
The Joinery is proud to offer a 5-year warranty for all commercial furniture for the original owner of the piece. The warranty covers any defects that occur with the furniture structure or wood materials. The warranty does not cover wear and tear; upholstery, fabric or leather; hardware or other third-party components; damage sustained during shipping; misuse of furniture; or repairs that were not completed by The Joinery or its designated representatives. Some customer-requested design specifications may also be excluded.
Damaged Merchandise
Please contact The Joinery immediately if your furniture arrives damaged or defective. We will resolve all issues as quickly as possible.
Cancellations
The Joinery will accept cancellations on all standard products within seven days of the order date. After that, or for custom orders, we will review cancellation requests on a case-by-case basis and will charge for design/build time incurred or materials purchased for the job.
