Part of the beauty of experiencing live performing arts is the thrill of discovery. Discovering the wide range of art and artists presented on our stages and perhaps discovering a little about yourself in the process. The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is fully committed to empowering everyone to ‘Discover Your Center.’ This calendar details the various services offered by our Access Services Program for Kentucky Center Presents performances, and those presented on our stages by our partnering arts groups and at Actors Theatre of Louisville, where we provide access services throughout the season. Through the efforts of our award-winning Access Services Program, The Center has become a national leader in providing access services that make the theater experience possible for patrons with disabilities. Opening doors and breaking down barriers, that’s what true discovery means at The Kentucky Center.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION The Kentucky Center offers Audio Description Service for scheduled performances for patrons who are blind or who have low vision. Describers provide a live, objective, descriptive delivery of the visual elements of a performance in between the dialogue via a small FM receiver available in all sections of the theater. Tactile Tours can be scheduled prior to some described performances. Call the Access Hotline at 502.566.5111 for more information.
disorder and other individuals with sensory sensitivities. Accommodations for selected performance include keeping the theatre lights dimmed, providing extra space between patrons, freedom to vocalize and move/switch seats, and allowing patrons to exit and enter during the performance. While this performance has a fluid atmosphere, it is open to the general public and can be a learning opportunity regarding the typical theatre experience.
CAPTION THEATER The Kentucky Center offers Caption Theater Service for scheduled performances for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The audible elements are shown on a sign, in real time, as each line is spoken or sung. Reservations should be requested for seats in sections of the theater which allow patrons to clearly view the sign and the stage.
SIGN INTERPRETATION Sign Interpretation is available for scheduled performances. Unless otherwise noted or requested, all sign interpretation is American Sign Language Interpretation (ASL). Requests for this service must be made a minimum of two weeks prior to the show. Check with the individual presenting organizations with questions about their sign interpretation policies.
SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing environment for individuals with autism spectrum 2
