Exotic Escape

Jenifer & June | April 1, Kabupaten Badung, Bali

Traveling has always been important to Jenifer Thai (33 and a jewelry designer) and Truong “June” Vo (38 and an entrepreneur). They met precisely because Jenifer repeatedly flew to LA to visit friends while working in Seattle. Soon enough, her time in California increased when she took up an apprenticeship with a goldsmith and moved in with June. Once engaged, they knew they’d hop on a plane for their wedding. “June wanted Bali because it’s the only place in the world that we travel to together every year,” Jenifer says. They looked to the locale and other far-flung destinations for inspiration, importing décor from Vietnam and Morocco to create their version of paradise. “If I could choose my heaven, it would be a kaleidoscope of bright jewel tones, patterns and light,” Jenifer says. —BM

LOCATION

“Khayangan Estate felt like heaven on earth,” Jenifer says. “It was absolutely stunning.”

CEREMONY

“I wanted a walkway full of dreams lined and decorated from the moment guests stepped into the ceremony,” Jenifer says. Fuchsia woven pandan leaf hand fans and monogrammed pouches filled with rose petals topped Lucite chairs.

FLOWERS

Pampas and sorghum grass, plus dried fan palm, added drama to the altar backdrop and showed up in groupings around the resort.

SIGNAGE

Jenifer and June’s initials were positioned on the edge of the resort’s infnity pool, which borders the Indian ocean.

BRIDESMAID DRESSES

Jenifer designed custom silk charmeuse wrap gowns for her best girls.

ACCESSORIES

June added British bulldog cufflinks to his Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedo in honor of their own pups who couldn’t travel abroad.

BOUQUET

The dark-blue-centered anemones in Jenifer’s bouquet were right on palette, while white garden roses and carnations popped against wild eucalyptus.

TABLESCAPES

The design and architecture in Fes and Marrakesh inspired the mix of collected objects, including the gold vases and lanterns, Jenifer says. Acrylic table numbers propped in gem stones and finished with city names, like Saigon, otherwise known as Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, gave dining tables an even more worldly spin.

ENTRANCE

The newlyweds added pyrotechnics for their head-turning walk into the reception.

CAKE

A Moroccan-inspired cake topped with an air plant shared the spotlight with a table of other desserts and exotic delicacies, like snake fruit and mangosteen.

DINNER

An Indonesian buffet, which included a suckling pig roast, created a relaxed atmosphere.

DRINKS

Guests sipped fresh coconut water straight from customized coconuts with bamboo straws.

WEDDING VISION

WEDDING STYLE

Glamorous, Eclectic and a bit Bohemian. The setting could be an Estate, a Resort or a Hotel.

COLOR PALETTE

Jewel Tones Emerald green, champagne and blue with pops of gold and copper.

MUST-HAVES

Custom Jewelery | Jenifer found a sapphire that “spoke” to her, then she and June designed her engagement ring together.

Spiritual Souvenirs | “I’m a huge gem geek,” Jenifer says. Guests left with a bag of crystals and an explanation of the properties behind each stone.”

#MAKETRADITION

The two had to ask the local tribes for permission to wed and got a blessing from a shaman to ward off rain.
