7 June 2009 - 6 June 2010 Iconic sculpture by modern and contemporary artists will go on show in the Laing’s Marble Hall, running alongside a series of events.
The Northern Print Biennale The 2009 Print Awards 4 July – 4 October 2009 This exhibition will display the best in contemporary printmaking, selected by a distinguished jury. The competition is open to all British and international artists whose work encounters print. Part of NewcastleGateshead’s world-class programme of festivals and events developed by culture10.

Situated in the centre of Newcastle, the Laing is home to an impressive collection of art. Its exhibition programme is renowned for bringing the biggest names in art to the North East and includes historic, modern and contemporary works. The Gallery’s permanent displays feature important 18th and 19th century paintings including dramatic landscapes by John Martin.

April - September 2009 A series of new exhibitions and events recalling a sequence of live art works which took place at the Laing in the late 1980s. Visual Dialogues: Tracey Emin Until 6 March 2009 An installation of plaster seagulls bearing the words “I COULD REALLY HAVE LOVED YOU”, created by Tracey Emin, will provide inspiration for students who create interpretation in response to the piece. Visual Dialogues is a partnership programme managed by Tate Britain working with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, Museums Sheffield and Tyne & Wear Museums. The programme is jointly funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part of the Strategic Commissioning Programme for Museum and Gallery Education.
