What could be better than an outdoor summer concert on a balmy evening? When the concert is near the water, you can arrive by boat, making the experience memorable. If the concert is a short walk away, you can park nearby and stroll to the music.

In the town of Tuftonboro, the popular Summer Concert Series at the Pavilion enlivens summer. The series takes place on Thursdays at 6:30 pm at 19 Mile Beach in Tuftonboro, weather permitting during July and August. The concerts are presented in the pavilion by the town beach. Bring a lawn or beach chair and spread out for an evening of fun and music.

The concerts also offer concessions. Because the series takes place near the waterfront, you can choose to stay on your boat and listen to the music from the lake. Others park nearby and stroll to the concert/beach area.

This year’s lineup, (already underway as of July 7), includes July 21 – Big Picture Band; July 28 – Ricky and the Giants; August 4 – The Echotones; August 11 - The Carolyn Ramsay Band; August 18 – The Raging Rockaholics; and on August 25, the series ends with Idol Hands. While the concerts are

Alton Bay is a bustling, fun place in the summer months. The bandstand at water’s edge is the location for a group of outdoor summer concerts that are free and just steps from all kinds of dining. There is docking nearby, and the concerts take place each Saturday from 7 to 9 pm. The lineup includes July 23 – East Bay Jazz: July 30 – EZ Band; August 6 – Got It Covered (rock and pop music); August 13 – Bittersweet; August 20 – Saxx Roxx; August 27 – Chris Bonoli. You can bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. In case of inclement weather, decisions to cancel will be announced by 2 pm on the Alton Parks and Recreation Facebook page or call 875-0109. If you enjoy outdoor shows, mark August 10 for a fun and unusual concert with the Key Elements band at the Alton Bay Water Bandstand. Great Waters Music Festival has a beautiful and unusual location for its summer series at Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, with a second location for some shows this year at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro. Concerts take place in July and August. The Concerts in the Clouds site is under a large tent on the grounds of the Castle. The Electric Light Orchestra Experience will perform on July 23 from 7:30 to 10 pm; Cabaret Concert: Georgia Stitt and Jason Robert Brown will perform at Brewster Academy on July 27 from 7:30 to 9 pm; on August 6 Classic Albums Live: Fleetwood MacRumours plays at the Castle location from 7:30 to 10 pm; Great Waters Gala with Aaron Lazar (and an auction and raise the paddle) is scheduled for August 17 from 6 to 10 pm at the Castle tented location; Music of Billy Joel and Elton John starring Michael Cavanaugh takes place on August 20 from 7:30 to 10 pm at the Castle site; One Night of Queen – Garry Mullen & The Works performs on August 27 from 7:30 to 10 pm at the Castle; and the International String Trio will perform on September 25 at the Brewster Academy Boathouse from 4 to 5 pm. Cate Park in Wolfeboro is a great place to relax. With nearby dining offering everything from sandwiches, burgers and ice cream to gourmet meals, the downtown also has great shopping. Best of all, music lovers enjoy the free outdoor concerts presented by the Wolfeboro Community Bandstand each summer. The concerts, featuring a variety of musical talent, take place in the pretty gazebo in the park. Boat docking is nearby. Concerts run from 7 to 9 pm. The Wolfeboro Cate Park Band performs at the Community Bandstand on South Main Street (adjacent to Dockside Town Docks) in downtown Wolfeboro on Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 pm. The Cate Park Band is a pick-up community concert band that plays Broadway, marches, and rock medleys. Whether you are here for a week or the entire summer, please feel free to drop in and play. The group typically rehearses from 7 to 8 pm, and then you can plant a chair or blanket and enjoy the concert from 8-9 pm.

Center Harbor is a pretty town on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. In the summer, the Center Harbor Parks and Recreation Band Concert Series performs in the town bandstand near the Fire Station. There is plenty of lawn space for concertgoers to spread out a blanket or bring a lawn chair for seating. Concerts take place on Fridays (having started in June) and continue July 22, 29 and on August 5 at 7 pm. Rain dates are the day following the scheduled concerts. Bristol, in the Newfound Lake region, holds concerts in Kelley Park on North Main Street near the downtown area. The shows take place from 6 to 8 in the concert’s pavilion; bring a lawn chair for seating. The schedule includes July 21 – the Uncle Steve Band; July 28 – Sixties Invasion; August 2 – National Night Out by Events Committee, Bristol Fire and Police Depts. with barbecue, games, and music by Carrol Brown; August 4 – Club Soda Band; August 18 – The Starlight Honeys; and Eric Grant Band on August 25. Also in the Newfound Lake area, the village of Hebron offers free concerts on the town green area. Gazebo programs include August 8 with No Limitz and a barbecue at 6 pm; August 13 is Family Fun Day with a book sale, hike, dunking booth, dessert contest; vintage car show and at 7 pm the Blue Brothers with Next Generation blues and rock and roll music. Free music is offered this summer at Marceau Park on Central Street in Franklin at 5 pm on Thursdays. On July 21 Tim Hazelton is scheduled, followed by Lil Penny on July 28, Joel Cage on August 11; Henry LaLiberte Band on August 18; Bow Junction on August 25 and Don Bartenstein on September 1. September has a Labor Day performance by Island Mark & Jammin’ Jake; September 17 features Sammy Blanchette; August 24 offers John Irish and October 1 is B. Man & The Kid. Canterbury Shaker Village is offering a great outdoor concert series this summer called Music on the Green on Sunday afternoons from 4 to 5 pm. On July 24 the Mink Hills Band plays; July 31 offers Jim Dozet Duo; August 7 is Lara Herscovitch; August 14 features Liz and Dan Faiella; Katie Dobbins plays on August 21; Peabody’s Coal Train is August 28; Lori Diamond and Fred Abatelli with special guest Anelise is on September 4 and September 11 features Jan Fuller and Harel Gietheim Special Memorial Concert.
