Following on from a successful first year of the show last April and November, this year the search was on to find a bigger and better venue for the UK’s official Land Rover season opener. The organisers – who were behind the British Indoor 4x4 Show back in its prime – have decided to bring the Great British Land Rover Show to Stoneleigh Park, where for the foreseeable future they will be bringing you the best Land Rover extravaganza of the year.
This April’s event is brimmed and bursting to go. Some of the biggest names in the business have lined themselves up ready to give you a show to remember – and you can check them out in this exclusive 16-page show guide. There will be vehicle displays, Land Rover products to feast upon to your heart’s content – whether it be adventure, off-roading, classics, performance; whatever your Land Rover boat, we guarantee to float it! This is the UK’s only indoor Land Rover show (besides the one we do in November as well…) and it’s at this point we’d like to thank you, our
visitors, for making our first year of shows so successful – and as such, giving us the platform to launch the show at its new home at Stoneleigh Park. We’d also like to take the opportunity to thank all our returning exhibitors, and new ones alike, for help bringing this show to Stoneleigh and into its second year of Land Rover celebrations. oodwinch’s TDS Goldfish winches have always been known for their superb build quality, with lots of brilliant features giving them both reliability and longevity. And now, with the winches in their ninth year of production, David Bowyer has teamed up with MG Off-Road to design and build the ‘King of TDS Winches’. Over these last nine years, David, who in the beginning helped Kingone to produce the TDS range of waterproof winches, has continually brought about new versions and in the process enhanced the original design. With three sizes of drums, three sizes of motors, air-operated freespool kits, turbo power controllers,
four-function Lodar wireless radio remotes and a whole range of vehicle, portable and lifting frame kits, this is one piece of kit that has truly evolved with time. All this proves that the standard TDS range of winches made for David by Kingone are worthy of being upgrading to first class ’good winches’. Many will also remember the G10 and G12 waterproof winches which David designed and built in the late 90s – and after 15 years, it is believed that most are still running, thanks to their drum roller bearings, greaseways, grease nipples and waterproof sealing. Featured here is the new G12. This remarkable winch has everything that a keen off-roader, or new competitor

Above: The G12 Goodwinch is everything an off-roader could want, and after nine years of developments, it has become one truly complete piece of equipment to the challenge scene, will ever want – and all at one affordable price. As these winches are built to order in the Goodwinch workshop, there are many options available. The model pictured here is a TDS-9.5 gearbox with the Extra Large Drum fitted, carrying a 12mm x 38m Dyneema Bowrope. Its twin Bowmotor 2s are activated by twin Bowrights, and an additional air freespool kit is installed. The new combined motor drum conversion and twin motor carrier contains a very efficient heavy-duty toothed belt system. This not only joins together the outputs of the two Bowmotors, but also increases the gear ratio to the driveshaft with an adaptor to power the gearbox the other side of the drum. Goodwinch expects that most users will want the fastest overall gearing (which is 112:1). But a lower ratio is available, as well as standard gearing of 173:1 – giving a huge pulling capacity, yet pacey performance. The Twin Motor conversion kit and end cover are designed and milled from solid aluminium by MG OffRoad, who are proper serious off-road challenge competitors – something that gave them the impetus to get more speed and power out of their TDS winches. After 18 months of hard use in the field and with further input from David Bowyer, the new G12 is shown here with the air freespool in place. The conversion kit can be purchased on its own or supplied readybuilt and tested to the specification of your choice, though Goodwinch expect that most people will go for what is shown here. A final enhancement is the new aluminium right-hand gearbox drum support. This mimics the lower part of the motor conversion support and features a drum roller bearing with a grease nipple. The TDS gearbox also has an oiling point fitted to ensure easier freespooling. This makes the new G12 a truly ultimate, fast, powerful and waterproof winch, which is extremely efficient under all heavy pulling conditions.

Great british land rover show Llaner’s paradise
E
very time we visit Llanerchindda Farm, we come away wishing we lived in the middle of Wales. Under its previous owner, Nick Bointon, this idyllic B&B on a hillside near Llandovery became known as the place to base yourself on green lane trips – and under the management of Martin and Lynne Hadley, plus sons Mark and Andrew, if anything it’s become even more popular. The Hadleys bought Llanerchindda in 2005, having previously run a successful hotel in the Lake District. And they know that the way to a green laner’s heart is through his stomach. Try arriving at lunchtime (we did, and boy were we glad of that) and you’ll be fed to perfection. Lynne and Mark are geniuses in the kitchen, Martin and Andrew are a great front of house team and all four of them know the local rights of way like an old friend. If you want marked-up maps, mobile sat-navs, a guide to join you in your vehicle or a lead car to pilot you along the way, it’s all part of the service. The family are very involved in green lane
maintenance and work with GLASS and Treadlightly to keep the rights of way in good condition by ensuring their visitors are well-informed about where they can and can’t go. There’s enough lanes accessible from Llanerchindda to keep you going all week, so it’s good that as well as being able to feast on delicious home-cooked meals you can also get a good night’s kip here. The farm has a variety of accommodation including a cottage that sleeps nine – perfect for a group green laning holiday. And that’s where we think Llanerchindda really comes into its own. If
you visit this part of Wales for a day or weekend, you’ll head straight for the classic lanes like Strata Florida and Soar y Mynydd – but linger a little longer and, especially with your hosts’ knowledge at your disposal, you’ll find that there are dozens more beautiful, scenic lanes waiting to be discovered. Which is what owning a Land Rover is all about, isn’t it? Being able to take the road less travelled is one of life’s greatest pleasures – and when it’s the trail less travelled, well, that’s better still. And when you stay at Llanerchindda Farm, it’s more of a pleasure than ever.
