TRADITIONAL 84 If I’m part of a new generation / When should I feel like I’m holding the future? When do the roads expose the horizon / Instead of circles and endless U-turns? ¶ “Everybody I know here are worthless / Shaped from success and expected to fail /Without a clue where the roads will take us / No idea how the roads were made ¶ It takes a thief to know one / All I know is everybody gets robbed / If it’s not of the things in your pocket / It’s of the time that you’re chasing a job ¶ But when you got it all to begin with / Then how do you know when to fight? / And if you never get any older / Then how do you know you’re alive? ¶ So we parade for the land we were promised / From before we were even born / For the movies and models in mirrors / And forget where we started to run / They tell me the sky is the limit / But the sky is a clingy fog / They tell me to follow the rabbit / But the rabbit went ahead and got shot ¶ Shot by our parents and uncles / Stuffed up the ass of a pig / Served with a pad on the shoulder / And a lively, shiny grin ¶ They keep keeping up appearances / Like nobody told them they’re old / Like pristine figurines / So sanctimonious you want them to choke ¶ I know that it’s not their intention / It’s just the ways of these modern times / They think that the road they paved us / Is the same that we’ll walk in line ¶ So if I’m not supposed to trespass / Then how am I to find my own way? On a map that is covered in crossroads / And not an inch of elbow space ¶ So I have no clue where the roads will take me / No idea how the roads were made / And I’m not supposed to trespass / So how am I to find my way again? ¶ They tell me the sky is the limit / But the sky is a clingy fog / Cause if you got it all to begin with / Then how do you know you’re enough?

PLACE IN THE SUN 02 | 3:16 | april 27, 2012

PARTY OF FRIENDS Did you lose it, when you lost someone? / I’m not as useless as my comfort is off / I can’t take it on me / But you can take it out on me / When you hold on to a bygone on hold / But the shoulder just never turns from the cold / I can’t turn it on for you / But you can take it out on me ¶ Count on me, and count to ten / Count me in on your party of friends / You can’t win ‘em all, but you can’t lose / Cause to me you have nothing to prove ¶ Could you take it, when you took on too much? / Did you feel naked, when you covered it up? / I’ll be passing you pots and plants and plates and curve balls / As you take it out on the walls ¶¶ It’s just never enough to get what you want / You try to do what can with whatever you got / So you try to make it right from all of your wrongs / Turn the rough around the edges into soft corners / But what you need was there all along

TFIMOL_KidsDrunks_CDmediabook_Booklet.indd 7

Did all your dreams and aspirations / Carry the load for too long? / Did the best in you get the best of you? / And did you know it before it was gone? / So you take what you need / But you don’t need anything / All the emptyness you’re harboring inside / Is the heaviest load to hold in your misty old eyes ¶ There’s a place in the sun for you ¶ So forget ‘bout the past / Cause it’s never coming back / What has gone, has gone to waist / But tomorrow - tomorrow is never too late ¶ ¶ I’ll be waiting at your place in the sun / And everyone you’ve ever loved is waiting at your place in the sun / Waiting at your place in the sun / Your Summer, waiting for your Summer to come

LOST IN THE WOODS We’d get lost in the woods, looking for adventure / Climbing trees and abandoned houses, busting our knees on the textures / Fishing in muddy holes, stepping on slippy stones / This place could never hold us back / But somehow we’d always find our way back home ¶ We wanted something / Something to happen / If it’s the last thing that we ever did, at least we’d know that someone tried something / To make it happen / We had a hunger for this life - with a passion / Oh, oh, this life / Does anybody even crave for it, can anybody keep up to pace with it / Past 25? ¶ We’d play football against the walls and hockey on the lake / Whatever games we played, was whatever games we made / All the apples we stole from the neighbours, they tasted like a triumph with every bite / And the fireworks they formed on the road would keep us up all night ¶¶

ON THE ROPES (OUT OF LINE) You’re so out of line, you don’t even know / With all that drama inside, you always put up a show / You have no idea what you really want / Is it whatever you say, or just me to be wrong? / You’re like your father / Nothing but a drunk ¶ If you ever do anything, you do nothing at all / T oo old to make a difference, too young to make the calls / You’re on the ropes / You really figured out how to corner us both / You’re on the ropes / You’re like a stone at a crow, it must be why your smile is so cold ¶ The games you play don’t have any rules / So when you’re down on your luck, the dice are down too / You lie to yourself and blame everyone else / Cause you’re afraid of the truth and what it might tell / You’re like your mother / You behave like a child ¶¶ With a kid for a mom and a drunk for a dad / An offended kind of irony was the best thing I ever had / With an affinity for alcohol, no empathy in general / I’m estranged from whatever you hold dear / Like a wound that won’t heal / An empty void I can’t even fucking feel / I’m so lost / Lost, out of hope and out of time / Lost, on the ropes and out of line

GOD SAVE HENRI The mirrors inside our parliament must surely be shattered / From partying too hard and spinning mad as a fucking hatter / They go for tea with the queen and pick her rotten apples / And pass them on as oranges to the ravelling rabble ¶ I reserve the fucking right / To fuck up my fucking life / If that’s what I want / And that’s what I want ¶ So what’s the price on liberty in a modern regime? / The tag down at the grocer says whatever you need / Health care’s on sale along with a treadmill and a leash / When all you want is to be left alone, a smoke and another beer ¶¶ I just wanna be a lot like Henri

AROUND HERE Come on in, and mind your own business / Remember where you were from / We got houses and hedges and fences / To guard whatever you want / We look directly into the mirror / And our neighbour straight in the eye / We never lock the doors or windows / Cause we never go outside ¶ You think you’re alone when you dance on the cobbles / Like you’re the only one to hear / When you whisper your dreams and fears / You’re never alone when you dance on the cobbles / You’re not the only one to see / What you wanted yourself to be ¶ Taverns, museums and flagpoles / Ramshackled, abandoned and closed / The names that you’ll read in the pavement / Were carved with a heart of stone / Our roads are all on the compass / Named after local roads / So if you find yourself in a corner / You’ll know we take care of our own ¶¶ No sirens or engines or door bells / Just the wind and the leaves of the Fall / The silence you’ll face at the sea shore / Will sound like a lion’s roar ¶¶

FOREVER, AGAIN & THEN SOME I wrote you a letter, you don’t have to read / It’s just a few silly words, if you know what I mean / I’m so W.C. Fields / Cause you double the man in me ¶ There’s no way to say it, it can never come across / I, I - Love you with all that I’ve got / I know it’s a cliché, I know that it’s blunt / I, I, I, I I’ll love you forever, again and then some / I’ll love you forever / Forever, again and then some ¶ With your hair in your smile, there’s a look in your eye / It’s not a question or answer, it’s a glow or a light / It’s a simple little sigh / That let’s me know that you’ll always be mine ¶¶

MAKE IT HERE I You can’t tell me anything that I don’t already know / I hope your bloated satisfaction turns on you and chokes / On the edge of our town there’s a shadow on the road / And on the other side is another town and another entry toll / You can never get to another place that’s not quite the same / Everyone you’ll ever come across can tell from where you came ¶ If you can make it here, you’ll make it anywhere ¶ You can’t show me anything that I’ve not already seen / I’ve seen the writing on the wall, there’s no American Dream / And your fortune and luck won’t get you further down the road / Than the house that you grew up in, and you’ll die in when you’re old / You can laugh all that you want to, but the joke is on you / And if you still think that it’s funny, something’s finally sinking through ¶¶

I’M A MAN 10 | 3:36 | april 21, 2011

MAKE IT HERE II Where did you go? / What became of all your plans? / What did you find? / Did you find what you were looking for by chance? / Did you get far? / Far enough away from these lands? / These heather and naked badlands / These timid and tainted badlands ¶ Godspeed - If you stop now you’ll leave me with nothing / But an echo of hope in my heartbeat / I’ve been pounding forever for you ¶ Where did you go? / Did you realize your plans? / What did you find? / Was it hidden in the places you glanced? / Did you get far? / Further than you knew beforehand? / Further than you wanted, but you can’t turn around and go back? ¶¶ And if you ever feel like you’re losing the fight / Just remember what you left behind / What you got inside / You and I / We can make it if anywhere we find

TFIMOL_KidsDrunks_CDmediabook_Booklet.indd 17

I don’t mind to take out the garbage / But I don’t take shit / I’ll carry you around and about / If you’d just get off of my back / Baby, you can have my heart and all the letters from my ex / But you can never have those parts of me that make me the man you respect ¶ Maybe I’m not quite the man of your dreams / But I’m a man / And that white horse supposed to sweep you off of your feet / It got worn out in fairy tales and now you got me / I’ll tell you I love you for every breathe that I take / There, I said it - and I’ll say it again / But I can’t change / That I’m a man ¶ I don’t want you to do anything you don’t want / But is it only me or do you ever know what that is? / Baby, you can try every dress you own and my answer will stay just the same / You look beautiful, but does it matter if you feel another way? ¶¶
