Lawrenceville launches Emerge Transformed: The Campaign for Lawrenceville. Historic in its scope and ambitious in its goals, Emerge Transformed will shape the future of our great School. We invite you to learn more about Lawrenceville’s philanthropic priorities and the aspirations that will sustain our community going forward.
On May 6, Lawrenceville launched the most ambitious fundraising campaign in its history, Emerge Transformed: The Campaign for Lawrenceville. With a goal of $425 million, Emerge Transformed also has the distinction of being the largest fundraising effort ever undertaken by an independent school. Its successful completion will assure our

School’s position as a national leader in college preparatory education well into the future.
EMERGE TR ANSFORMED T H E C A M PA I G N F O R L AW R E N C E V I L L E EMERGE TRANSFORMED rests on four pillars: K TRANSFORM LIVES seeks to raise funds to sustain scholarship aid, vital to bringing the most promising students to the table from all income levels. Lawrenceville is committed to meeting the full demonstrated need of the students we accept. Goal: $100 million.
K TRANSFORM LEARNING is focused on faculty and students, emphasizing faculty compensation; the need for additional faculty housing; and expanding opportunities in experiential education, including S.T.E.A.M. learning, the Big Red Farm, and our Harkness Travel and immersive Scholars programs. Goal: $80 million.
K TRANSFORM COMMUNITY addresses the impact of Lawrenceville’s physical campus and facilities on School culture. The Tsai Field House will modernize and enhance our existing indoor athletic facilities through renovation and new construction and replace Irwin Dining Hall to create a unique recreational and dining complex, unlike any other at an independent school. The Getz Sports Complex will feature upgraded spectator seating and other facilities, and Keuffel Stadium will become a lighted, multi-use turf field. A carless campus core, enabled by a new “ring road” circling the built area of campus, will encourage socialization, reduce vehicle traffic, and help us preserve our Olmsted-designed landscape. Goal: $175 million.
K TRANSFORM THE WAY FORWARD reflects the fundamental purpose of this Campaign, the need to ensure that Lawrenceville’s extraordinary programs, cherished traditions, and landmark campus remain financially sustainable for current students as well as future generations. Unrestricted gifts to The Lawrenceville Fund, which incorporates the Parents Fund, and the School’s general endowment support the underpinnings of the Lawrenceville experience today and in the years ahead. Goal: $70 million.
The name of our Campaign, Emerge Transformed, describes the influence of Lawrenceville on our students as much as the impact your support will have on the trajectory of our School. We invite you to join us as we travel in exciting new directions, renew our commitment to our most essential beliefs, and true to our mission, inspire the best in each to seek the best for all. Our Campaign ends June 30, 2023.
In fall 2016, the Board of Trustees approved a new strategic plan for the School, “Lawrenceville 20/20,” presenting a set of priorities that drew

CAMPAIGN PROGRESS
EMERGE TRANSFORMED has already begun to transform our campus and programs. K TSAI FIELD HOUSE A gift from Clara and Joe Tsai ’82, the largest in Lawrenceville’s history, kicked off a massive renovation and rebuilding project to create a unique athletic, recreation, and dining facility. This project is also benefiting from early major investments by Fahad Al-Rashid ’98, Jeanie and Tom Carter ’71 P’01 ’05, Michael Chae ’86, the F. M. Kirby Foundation, Kathy Li and Michael Shum P’19 ’24, and Sunday Pan and David Yu P’21. K GRUSS CENTER FOR ART AND DESIGN (GCAD) The generosity of Audrey and Martin Gruss ’60 enabled the transformation of the Gruss Center of Visual Arts into a state-of-the-art makerspace. K HUTCHINS GALLERIES Debbie and Glenn Hutchins ’73 funded the topdown renovation of the Hutchins Galleries, with additional major support from Jean Fang ’90. K SCHOLARSHIP AID Approximately $38 million has been raised for scholarship aid, led by named endowed scholarship funds established by Stacy and Hyman Brody ’75 P’07 ’08 ’11 and their children, Samantha Brody Moses ’07, William Brody ’08, and Nathan Brody ’11; Marina and David Ottaway ’57 P’86 ’91; Alex Buckley Voris ’96; and Barbara Asch and Jon Weiss ’75.
K CAMPUS MASTER PLAN The master plan intentionally complements the vision for campus community outlined in Head of School Steve Murray’s strategic plan. Anchored by support from Clara and Joe Tsai ‘82, the plan incorporates a host of campus upgrades and projects to enhance School life. Among these is the renovation of the Getz Sports Complex, with refurbished fields and new seating and amenities, led by a gift from the Getz Family—Sandy and Bert Getz ’55 H’56 P’85 GP’18 ’20 and Susie and Bert Jr. ’85 P’18 ’20. Additional major support for the sports complex has been provided by Kit Howard GP’15 ‘16 ’19, Lisa and Mike Tiernan ‘68 P’01 ‘05 ‘09, and the Violich Family. A lead gift from Yama and Goodwin Gaw ’87 P’21 is paving the way for a new main entrance to campus, key to a “ring road” around the built area of campus and creation of a carless campus core. K THE LAWRENCEVILLE FUND When we set a five-year Campaign goal of $32.5 million for The Lawrenceville Fund, which incorporates the Parents Fund, Lawrentians and their families rose to the challenge with a generous outpouring of support. With over two years remaining in the Campaign, The Lawrenceville Fund has already topped $26 million, making this a critical funding source.
K FACULTY & STUDENTS Nearly $34 million has been raised for experiential learning and faculty housing and compensation thanks to donors like Shelby M.C. Davis ’54 GP’06 ’07 ’15 ’18, Debra Mayer and Joe Frumkin ’76 P’11, Louise and John Wellemeyer ’55 P’18, and David Reese ’58.

in New York City, but a visit to campus convinced him of the possibilities in Lawrenceville’s multiple academic buildings, massive field house, and pastoral setting. Looking back, he calls his experience “transformational,” from relationships with his teachers and advisors to learning about life through classmates “from everywhere.” Today, Garry is director of corporate initiatives at American City Business Journals, having risen through the journalistic ranks at multiple major publications, breaking barriers along the way. From his first job as a sports reporter with The Times of Trenton, he went on to become deputy sports editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer and later the first Black sports editor at a major metropolitan newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and editor-in-chief of The Sporting News. His long list of honors and awards includes an Emmy Award, induction into the Milwaukee Press Club Hall of Fame in 2017, induction into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame in 2019, and most recently, the creation of the Garry D. Howard Scholarship by the Associated Press Sports Editors association.
“One of six kids of a single mom from the South Bronx, and look at what I’ve achieved,” he says. “My daughter is in college now. Not only did the gift of Lawrenceville change the course of my life, but it assured the success of future generations.”
With a goal of raising $100 million, Scholarship Aid is the largest endowment priority of this Campaign. In recognition of its critical importance to sustaining the prominence and vitality of our School, a group stepped forward to create the Trustee Challenge for Scholarship Aid. These generous alumni and parents have dedicated $15 million in challenge funds to this endeavor. Your support will be doubled as you help Lawrenceville continue to invite a full spectrum of students to the table, providing a transformative experience that shapes global leaders. Scholarship Aid commitments currently stand at close to $38 million—your response to the Trustee Challenge can help us reach our goal. Interested in learning more? Contact Greg Carter, .
