I started thinking about what (non-crime-related) note would creep me out should I receive it, and this was the result.

I love the idea of ransom notes through history. How did different cultures at different times create their own magazine cutout threats? Did cavemen draw threatening doodles? I landed on runes ‘cause they feel so rigid and visceral—hard, jagged letters that match the message: Pay or Meet Odin
