Dear Neighbours, Welcome to the June edition of your Hucclecote Link. At last we seem to be seeing some nice weather - long may it continue! Last month we celebrated as we have now been publishing the Hucclecote Link for 11 years last and so as always this is a time for me to say ‘Thank You’ to all of you who have helped to make this possible. To the business owners for putting your trust into the Link Directories, to my great team of distributors who ensure that you receive your copies regularly and to YOU the reader, for picking up the phone and using the fantastic local businesses that we have in the directories. Without your support all of our businesses would struggle, so Thank You. Do you fancy winning yourself a £20 M&S voucher? Well to help continue the success of the Hucclecote Link, we are always on the look out for new businesses that we can help to grow in this area, and so if you know of someone who owns a business and might benefit of advertising with us, send them our way and if they decide to advertise, then there’s £20 on it’s way to you, it’s a win win situation, see our advert on page 27. Take a look at the events the Hucclecote Community Association are holding over the next couple of months, see opposite for details, and remember if you are looking to become part of the community we have plenty of local clubs you can join, read more about them on page 28 & 29. Congratulations to Mr Rob Atherton , for winning the Sudoku, Cineworld tickets will be on their way out to you. Have a great month .... Sarah.

Dave’s top tips Underground water leaks The phrase “underground water leak” is one of those, which strikes fear into every homeowner’s heart. By its very nature, you have no idea how long the leak may have been occurring or what damage it may have already done. Bearing this in mind it is important to identify a leak as soon as possible and to get it fixed as quickly as you can. The first sign you have a water leak may be that your water meter is ticking over even when all of your household taps are turned off. This is a sure sign that something is wrong. If you do not have a water meter, you may have noticed patches of water in your garden or out front of your house, which never dry up. If the water is bubbling up you have fairly clear evidence. You first port of call is your water company. They will be able to tell you whether the leak comes under their jurisdiction and if you will have to pay. In most cases, if the leak is on your land it is your responsibility. Your water company will be able to give you a list of local contractors who can help you to identify and fix the leak. Generally an underground leak is not something you can deal with yourself. Contact your insurance company to see if your underground pipes are covered by your policy. You may find that they will cover the entire cost. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

Together, they recruit a crew of specialists: jeweler Amita; street con Constance; expert fence Tammy; hacker Nine Ball; and fashion designer Rose. The target is a cool $150 million dollars in diamonds-diamonds that will be around the neck of world-famous actress Daphne Kluger, who will be center-stage at the event of the year, the Met Gala. Hucclecote Scout News 25 Scouts and leaders enjoyed a very hot camp near May Hill over the May Day Bank Holiday. With an incident hike on the Saturday and a walk to the top of May Hill on Sunday and all the usual activities with cooking on open fires, the camp went very well. Scouts looking forward to Summer Camp, joining up with Explorers for their camp in Austria with 45 in the party all together. Now Summer seems to have come at last, we will be outside on Scout meetings, cooking on open fires and building pioneering bridges and other Scouting activities. On Saturday 14th July, the group will be celebrating 90 years old. We hope all parents and past members of the group will come along in the afternoon and join in the activities which start at 2pm Please phone Terry on 521664 if you have children between 10 and 13 who are interested in joining the Scouts (Beavers and Cubs are currently fully up)
Hucclecote Garden Club We are all looking forward to our Garden Club trip to Powis Castle and Gardens later in the month. This is the first time we have strayed over the border for our annual outing which should be an enjoyable day with plenty of time to explore the Castle and have a wander around the Gardens, which hopefully house a nursery where we can purchase some plants to bring home. The Hucclecote Methodist Church Bring and Buy Plant Sale held last month was a great success, the Saturday was sunny and all were in a positive gardening mood. We were part of the Plant Sale and had a table of donated plants, the proceeds of which went back into the Garden Club to go towards the cost of Speakers, etc. We did have a few plants left over which we will nurture and have ready for sale on our table at the Hucclecote Show later this month. Our most recent Speaker was David Cropp from Worcester talking on The Gardens of South Africa. David is a most enthusiastic individual and his talks reflect his personality and vast gardening experience, with great humour thrown in for good measure! We will have a Table full of plants on the George V Playing Fields on Saturday 16th June, as part of the Hucclecote Community Day, please come along and look us up. We continue to meet at Hucclecote Community Centre on the fourth Thursday of the month, at 7.30pm. Details from Joy on 553185 or Sue on 543573. To advertise call 01452 890242

For our last lunchtime meal we went into Gloucester to CafĂŠ Rene. A lovely meal and a pleasant day, no doubt we will return. We also had a day out in Cirencester. We went to Dobbies garden centre. They have a small amount of shops for some therapeutic shopping and a large garden area where we all bought quite a few plants, shrubs and flowers. We had coffee and cake when we first arrived and we finished with lunch in the restaurant, a good day for all. We have lots of different speakers on many varied subjects. There will also be meals out, skittles, croquet, outings and cream teas for the warmer weather, so lots to look forward to. After all of our speakers we have time to socialise with refreshments. The Larkhay WI meets at the Hucclecote Community Centre on the 2nd Thursday of every month (except August) at 7.30pm. Phone Beverley on 01452 613208 or Ellen on 01452 611976 for more information or just pop in and you would be made very welcome.
Tuesday @ Two What is it? A social gathering where you can meet your own friends (or make new ones); if you like playing games (Canasta, Scrabble, Rummy Cub) these are available or bring your favourite game with you. The afternoon finishes with home made cake and a cup of tea.
Where is it held? In the Church Centre, behind the church in Larkhay Road 2 - 4 pm
Is there a charge? A donation of ÂŁ1.50 to cover the cost of cake and tea would be appreciated
When does the group meet? First & third Tuesday in month - June - 5th & 19th July - 3rd & 17th - August - 7th & 21st
HUCCLECOTE TOWNSWOMENS GUILD The Guild meets at Hucclecote Community Centre on the third Thursday each month, at 7.30 pm. At each meeting we have a speaker or demonstration, covering a wide range of topics and interests; a raffle, the bring-and-buy sales table, refreshments, and time to chat and socialise. Our most recent speaker was Jon Mason from Highfield Garden Centre, on Hanging Baskets. Jon gave a very entertaining and informative talk, and made up some beautiful hanging baskets using the selection of plants and baskets he'd brought along. He proved how easy it is to produce stunning floral displays ourselves, and shared his top tip for extending the life of hanging baskets and patio planters - daily dead-heading! Our forthcoming speakers include Frances Benton on "A passion for pearls", and "Tax Care and Toy Boys" - sounds intriguing!! Other events planned for this year include an Afternoon Tea, a theatre trip, and a coach outing during the summer. Visitors and guests are always welcome at Guild meetings. Phone Linda on 617701 for more information, or just come along!
