Dave’s top tips Finding level Levels come in many shapes, and each one has its own uses. A nine inch torpedo level is a handy item to have around to maybe level a bathroom cabinet, and a magnetic one is perfect for certain things like leveling a steel radiator. But it is not a good idea to try leveling a large surface with one when a four or six foot level would give much more accurate results. A line level is necessary when a string line needs to be level, and no other level is going to take its place in a pinch. They hook right onto the string, they are small, and they are cheap. A graduated level is used for plumbing work and will have marks to set the fall or drop of the pipe without having to constantly measure it, water after all does not like to flow uphill unless under pressure. Laser levels although fairly expensive are handy once again in certain places and can save you a great deal of time in many applications. Regards Dave Stevens . If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

Statutory Admission Policy Consultation - Barnwood Park Arts College - Gloucester Barnwood Park Arts College is proposing changes to the Admissions Policy for 2020. In accordance with the School Admissions Code 2014, we are consulting on the admission arrangements for entry in September 2020/21. As part of this, Gloucestershire Local Authority insist that all schools in Gloucestershire are informed of the consultation. A Barnwood Park we see ourselves as a local school for local youngsters. To achieve this, the most substantial change to Barnwood Parks Admission Policy, is to remove the ‘catchment area’ defined as the Gloucester City boundary and replace this with the ‘geographical distance’ and in addition to include ‘ children of staff at the school’. The new policy can be found on the Admissions page of the Barnwood Park website: http://www.barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk The consultation period lasts from Wednesday 7th November until Monday 7th January 2019. Responses should be sent to: Mrs G Taylor at Barnwood Park Arts College, St Lawrence Road, Barnwood, Gloucester, GL4 3QU, or please email: admin@barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk by Monday 7th January 2019.

Hucclecote Garden Club We held our last Garden Club session last month when we had our annual Members Evening, a general Christmas get-together, with artistic talents on show creating lovely Christmas Decorations, musical entertainment, a Christmas quiz and raffle. The evening was much enjoyed by our Members. 2019 is the 10th Anniversary of Hucclecote Horticultural Society, or as we know it, Hucclecote Garden Club, we have some interesting talks coming up and hope to invite back one of our original 2009 Speakers. Plans are also in place for our 2019 Trip, details of which will be available in the New Year. Our first 2019 Speaker is Duncan Coombs, a regular to Hucclecote, who will be sharing his experience of Japanese Gardens, this will be held on Thursday 27th January. In February we have Nick Morgan from Coleford, who worked for 23 years in key roles within the Royal Horticultural Society, speaking on The Great Glasshouse, Wisley, Concept to Completion. For those who have visited RHS Wisley, this should be a fascinating insight into the history of the Great Glasshouse. Do come along and join us on the fourth Thursday of the month at Hucclecote Community Centre, 7.30pm. Further details from Joy on 553185 or Sue on 543573.

Our meeting in October we a talk about High Street Histories given by Phillip Wilkinson. It was very interesting to learn about how shops have evolved and have learned to adapt to the times. Some shops have been around for quite a few years and some have withered by the wayside, but an interesting insight. Following every talk we have tea and biscuits and time for a chat and a raffle. We have many activities to look forward to, as well as our Christmas party in December where we have a secret Santa! The Larkhay WI meets at the Hucclecote Community Centre on the 2nd Thursday of every month (except August) at 7.30pm. Phone Beverley on 01452 613208 for more information or just pop in.

Tuesday @ Two What is it? A social gathering where you can meet your own friends (or make new ones); if you like playing games (Canasta, Scrabble, Rummy Cub) these are available or bring your favourite game with you. The afternoon finishes with home made cake and a cup of tea.

HUCCLECOTE TOWNSWOMENS GUILD The Guild meets at Hucclecote Community Centre on the third Thursday each month, at 7.30pm. Each meeting includes a demonstration or speaker covering a wide range of topics and interests, a raffle, the bring-and-buy sales table, refreshments and time to chat and socialise. At our recent meeting, the Federation Chairman came along to present the Winners' Shield to our Quiz Team, and also to present the Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement Outside Guild, to Sue Adams for her work with the Trussell Trust Foodbank in Gloucester. Our speaker was Frances Seeney, who demonstrated Cake Decorating with Buttercream, and who made decorating cupcakes with a poinsettia, a camelia or a tiny Christmas Treet look so simple! Frances kindly donated boxes of cupcakes to be raffled in support of Gloucestershire Young Carers, our chosen charity. Still to come in the diary are the Lunch Club, the Christmas Shopping Trip to Worcester, the next Ramble, and our New Year's Lunch. Forthcoming speakers include Carolyn Sheldrick on "Medicinal Herbs in your Garden", and Malcolm Watkins on "Birdlip Grave Group - a 2000 year mystery". Visitors and guests are always welcome at Guild meetings. Phone Linda on 617701 for more information, or just come along!
