Dear Neighbours, Welcome to the February edition of your Hucclecote Link. Hope 2019 is going well for you all so far - well done to those of you who managed ‘Dry January’ . I wonder how many of you are still managing to stick to you New Years Resolutions? If one of your New Years resolutions is about getting fit. Why not give Zumba with Jane a try, or join a local health club located in the Barnwood Holiday Inn, or even learn to Line Dance - all these classes can be found on pages 16 & 17 and having been to a few of them myself, I can confirm that they are great fun. If you would like to join a new club and make some new friends why not try the local WI, or Townswomen Guild, see an advert for joining them on page 35, or if gardening is your thing, there is a Hucclecote Garden Club, you can read more about these clubs and find out how to join them on pages 36 & 37. Don’t forget Valentines day this month - Bowden Hall Hotel are holding a special event with live music, so if you are looking to book something special, more details can be found on page 18. If you are thinking of what to buy for valentines, we have a range of beauty therapists advertising with us, who all offer various gift vouchers or packages. Touch of Beauty are an new salon based in Brockworth, they are running an offer on manicures this February, see page 15 for more info. Congratulations to Mrs McGowan, the winner of last months Sudoku competition, Cineworld tickets will be with you soon. Have a great month... Sarah.

Dave’s top tips Replacing Damaged floor tiles

As hard as floor tiles appear to be, they can on occasion get damaged with either a chip or crack and need to be replaced. Whenever buying tiles we always recommend getting a few extra as in a short time you may find they soon become obsolete. The first stage to remove the damaged tile is to carefully knock out the old tile from the middle to the edges with a hammer and chisel. (not forgetting safety gloves and glasses) Then completely remove the adhesive residues and grout. Using an electric scraper is a quick and easy method of doing this but a manual scraper will do the job just as well. Once the surface is cleaned, new tile adhesive is applied using a small notched trowel. Now press the new tile into the adhesive bed and line it up. After the specified drying time, grout the joints and leave them to dry. Finally, remove the remaining grout with a damp sponge before it fully sets. Should you need to make the joints look "old", simply rub some dirt into the dry joints until they are roughly the same colour as the neighbouring joints. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself

Hucclecote Garden Club Now we are well into Spring with the snowdrops, hellebores and primroses evident in our gardens, we can look forward to green shoots appearing everywhere. This is the time when we have to rack our brains to remember where our prized and our newly planted specimens are in the garden, and make sure we dont clear them away in our haste to tidy up the borders. With inspiration from our January speaker, Duncan Coombs, who spoke on the Gardens of Japan, we look forward to the blossoms and scents of Spring. Later this month we have Nick Morgan from Coleford coming along to speak on The Great Glasshouse, RHS Wisley. Nick retired to Gloucestershire in 2016 after 23 years working in key roles within the Royal Horticultural Society, as RHS Horticultural Specialist and Superintendent of the RHS Garden Wisley glass and propagation departments. We are celebrating our 10th Anniversary this year and will be welcoming back Chris Evans from Dundry Nurseries and The Butterfly Garden, who spoke to the Club back in 2009. Please come along and join us on the fourth Thursday of the month at Hucclecote Community Centre, 7.30pm. For more details please ring Joy on Gloucester 553185 or Sue on 543573 .
