Dear Neighbours, Welcome to the January edition of your Hucclecote Link. Hope you have all had, or are about to have (depending on when you will receive this edition over the holidays) a lovely Christmas. As our thoughts start to turn to the New Year, this is always a good time to try something new. Maybe one of your New Years resolutions is about getting fit. Why not give Zumba with Jane a try, or join a local health club located in the Barnwood Holiday Inn, or even learn to Line Dance - all these classes can be found on pages 22 &23. If you would like to join a new club and make some new friends why not try the local WI, or Townswomen Guild or if gardening is your thing, there is a Hucclecote Garden Club, you can read more about these clubs and find out how to join them on pages 28 & 29. New Year can also be a time when we might think about moving or modifying our homes. We have a range of businesses that can help you, from moving with The Property Centre, to having new kitchens or bathrooms fitted, or even just upgrading your interiors with Interior Needs. All our local businesses can be found on the index on page 30 and many of them have some great offers on in January so don’t miss out. Congratulations to Mr Fandino, the winner of last months Sudoku competition, Cineworld tickets will be with you soon. Wishing you all a happy and successful 2019... Sarah.

Dave’s top tips Looking after your gutters
Over the last months we have had numerous calls about guttering problems. This has been greatly increased by the amount of rain we have had this year and now the leaves are falling from the trees matters are made worse. We have done other tips on guttering in the past but this one is about preventative measures. I have recently been using a gutter lining system that helps prevents gutter clutter and although the initial cost outlay may seem slightly high, it seems you may recoup the initial cost within its first year of installation. Installation is simple and requires all gutters to be cleaned. The next step is to lay this liner into the guttering itself ensuring it cant be blown out in high winds by using zip ties if needed. The installed product that looks like a very long bendy bottle brush then prevents leaves and moss from entering the gutter but allows the water to enter and drain away. This could well be the end to blocked gutters so future maintenance is minimal if at all. Obviously you will be working at height so safety is paramount, and you will need the correct access equipment. With this in mind you may prefer us to do the installation for you. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

Film Releases for January 2019 The Favourite Starring: Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz Early 18th century England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfill her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.
Welcome to Marwen Starring: Eiza González, Steve Carell, Janelle Monáe When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one. In a bold, wondrous and timely film, Welcome to Marwen shows that when your only weapon is your imagination, you’ll find courage in the most unexpected place.
The Front Runner Starring: Hugh Jackman, Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons American Senator Gary Hart's presidential campaign in 1988 is derailed when he's caught in a scandalous love affair.
Stan & Ollie Starring: John C. Reilly, Steve Coogan, Shirley Henderson The true story of Hollywood's greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the inimitable movie icons, Stan and Ollie is the heart-warming story of what would become the pair's triumphant farewell tour. With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) - a formidable double act in their own right - the pair's love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public.
The Upside Starring: Nicole Kidman, Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston Directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere, The Upside is a remake of the French 2011 film The Intouchables which was itself inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The film follows a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled convict (Kevin Hart). Nicole Kidman, Julianna Margulies and Aja Naomi King also star.
Glass Starring: Bruce Willis, Anya Taylor-Joy, James McAvoy Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb's superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Statutory Admission Policy Consultation - Barnwood Park Arts College - Gloucester Barnwood Park Arts College is proposing changes to the Admissions Policy for 2020. In accordance with the School Admissions Code 2014, we are consulting on the admission arrangements for entry in September 2020/21. As part of this, Gloucestershire Local Authority insist that all schools in Gloucestershire are informed of the consultation. A Barnwood Park we see ourselves as a local school for local youngsters. To achieve this, the most substantial change to Barnwood Parks Admission Policy, is to remove the ‘catchment area’ defined as the Gloucester City boundary and replace this with the ‘geographical distance’ and in addition to include ‘ children of staff at the school’. The new policy can be found on the Admissions page of the Barnwood Park website: http://www.barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk The consultation period lasts from Wednesday 7th November until Monday 7th January 2019. Responses should be sent to: Mrs G Taylor at Barnwood Park Arts College, St Lawrence Road, Barnwood, Gloucester, GL4 3QU, or please email: admin@barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk by Monday 7th January 2019.
Hucclecote Garden Club With our first meeting of 2019 in a couple of weeks time, we look forward to welcoming Duncan Coombs back to Hucclecote to talk on Japanese Gardens. The thought of working outside in the garden is not exactly an exciting prospect at this time of the year, although many of us do have withdrawal symptoms and are on the constant look out for the first signs of Spring with our snowdrops or hellebores. In April we have Tom Price from the Cheltenham Orchid Society coming to impart some of his vast knowledge on the growing and more importantly the watering of Orchids. As some of us may have had the beautiful plant as a Christmas present, perhaps by April it might be in need of some tlc. Later in the year we have Brian Skeys from Worcester coming to Hucclecote to talk on 'Wild Gardens from William Robinson to Piet Oudolf', this should be a must hear treat as Piet Oudolf designed one of his wonderful 'Wild' Gardens for RHS Hampton Court last year. We hope to welcome many new Members this year which is our 10th Anniversary year. If you have a good knowledge of gardening or are a complete novice, please come and join us on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm (doors open at 7.00pm) at the Hucclecote Community Centre. For more information please contact either Joy on 553185 or Sue on 543563. To advertise call 01452 890242

HUCCLECOTE TOWNSWOMENS GUILD The Guild meets at Hucclecote Community Centre on the third Thursday each month, at 7.30pm. At each meeting we have a speaker or demonstration, a raffle, the bring-andbuy sales table, refreshments, and the opportunity to chat and socialise. Our final speaker of the year was Caroline Sheldrick, on "Medicinal Herbs in My Garden". Caroline is a qualified Medicinal Herbalist, and explained how many popular garden plants and herbs can be used as remedies for a wide range of ailments - even weeds such as dandelions and nettles have their place in nature's first aid box! The Christmas shopping coach trip to Worcester was a great success despite the weather, and our final meeting of the year was the Christmas Social when, as well as a buffet supper provided by members, we were entertained by "From Time to Time" - two ladies in Victorian dress, who told us about how the Victorians celebrated Christmas. Our first speakers in the new year will be Malcom Watkins on "The Birdlip Grave Group a 2000 year mystery", and Sandy Osborne - "Girl Cop". Visitors and guests are always welcome at Guild meetings. Phone Linda on 617701 for more information, or just come along!
